Sessions vs. Sanctuary Cities

The hate we saw in Charlottesville over the weekend overshadowed another weekend of death in the city of Chicago. Thirty people were shot and nine were killed.

Many of these deaths are the result of drug gangs fighting each other. Tragically, all too often innocent victims get caught in the crossfire. Sunday, two worshippers at a black church were gunned down.

There is a complete breakdown of the rule of law and respect for life in Chicago, and the victims overwhelmingly are minorities. Attorney General Jeff Sessions yesterday condemned that breakdown of the rule of law, and he reminded Chicago’s leaders that their first obligation is to protect their citizens and to obey the law. Instead, these left-wing politicians have put politically correct dogma first.

During a speech in Miami, Florida, Sessions blasted Chicago’s lawlessness and contrasted Chicago’s soaring murder rate to that of Miami’s, which rescinded its sanctuary city policies. Here are some excerpts of the attorney general’s remarks:

“In Chicago — a city with almost exactly the same . . . population as Miami-Dade — more than 433 people have been murdered since the beginning of the year. More than three times as many as Miami-Dade. Last year, Chicago’s 2.7 million residents experienced more murders than the 12.5 million people who live in New York and Los Angeles — combined. . .

“The most fundamental duty of government is to ensure the safety and liberty of its people. Respect for the rule of law has broken down. In Chicago, their so-called ‘sanctuary’ policies are just one sad example. . .

“Rather than acknowledge soaring murder counts . . . Chicago’s mayor has chosen to sue the federal government. He complains that our focus on enforcing the law would require a ‘reordering of law enforcement practice in [the city].’

“But that’s exactly the point! For the sake of their city, Chicago’s leaders need to recommit to policies that punish criminals instead of protecting them. They need to protect their citizens and not the criminals. . .

“The Department of Justice will not concede a single block or street corner in the United States to lawlessness or crime. Nor will we tolerate the loss of innocent life because a handful of jurisdictions believe that they are above the law.”

Trump vs. Flake

Arizona Senator Jeff Flake is one of the most endangered incumbents in the country. His approval rating is a “whopping” 18%.

It’s no mystery why. He has supported amnesty for illegal immigrants. He almost voted for Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran, but the intervention of Christians United For Israel and other groups made him reconsider.

He recently came out with a new book in which he embraced globalism and trade policies that have gutted the American heartland.

In interviews, Flake has regularly attacked President Trump, saying that the future of the Republican Party is not the coalition that prevailed in 2016. Really? As the saying goes, it is hard to argue with success.

I guess Sen. Flake is one of those Republicans who seem to prefer being in the minority, following the lead of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer.

Many insiders in Washington feel that Flake cannot win the general election. It seems the White House has concluded the same thing.

After Dr. Kelli Ward, a former Arizona state senator, entered the GOP primary against Flake, major conservative donors stepped up to support her campaign. In an effort to save the seat, President Trump this morning tweeted: “Great to see that Dr. Kelli Ward is running against Flake Jeff Flake, who is WEAK on borders, crime and a non-factor in Senate. He’s toxic!”

This is a stunning development. That Donald Trump would have tough words for an opponent is not surprising. That a sitting president would oppose the reelection of a senator from his own party is unheard of.

Once again, we are seeing conventional wisdom thrown out the window, and I suspect many frustrated conservatives find that very refreshing!

NARAL’s Disgusting Attack

The left’s attempt to exploit the violence in Charlottesville continues. The radical pro-abortion group NARAL is desperately trying to link some of the white supremacists who organized Saturday’s protest with the pro-life movement and the March for Life.

That is a disgusting smear of the men and women of faith who stand up for the most innocent and defenseless in our society — unborn babies in the womb.

Sadly, this character assassination is typical of the left today. I know the good people who lead the March for Life, and I am proud to stand with them.

Jeanne Mancini, president of March for Life, tweeted in response to NARAL’s attack, “The foundation of the #prolife movement is respect 4 the inherent dignity of every person regardless of race, creed, disability, politics, etc.”

Of course, she is absolutely right. The pro-life movement rejects racism because we believe all life is sacred, created in the image of God. It is the left that cannot name one abortion it would prohibit, not even abortions performed solely on the basis of the race or gender of the baby. Now that is extremism.

Jew Hatred Is Evil

Many vile and hateful things were said and done in Charlottesville over the weekend. This morning, a good friend brought to my attention a video that I had not previously seen capturing some of that vileness.

A group of marchers in Charlottesville were chanting, “You will not replace us.” That chant quickly morphed into, “Jews will not replace us.”

Any decent person within earshot of that raw anti-Semitic chant should have left the protest immediately. This was an ancient evil slithering out from the swamp of hate again. All decent people should recoil at the sound of those words.

Wherever Jew hatred raises its ugly head, men and women of goodwill must denounce it and excise it from the body politic. As conservatives, we must take the lead in ostracizing anyone who tries to hijack our cause of ordered liberty under God — the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Jesus.

Sadly, raw anti-Semitism seems to be growing throughout our country. Some of it springs from radical Islamists. Last month, an imam preaching at the Islamic Center of Davis, California, led his congregation in a prayer that Allah would “count” the Jews and “annihilate them” one by one.

I was surprised and saddened when this call for another Holocaust made very little national news. Anti-Semitism is rampant throughout the Middle East. We need to be very careful that we are not importing more anti-Semites into our country.

In my work with Christians United For Israel (CUFI), we have documented the growing anti-Semitism on America’s university campuses. The worst offenders are often left-wing professors. In addition, alliances between Muslim and far-left student groups at many schools have led to harassment and outright violence against Jewish students. Academia, as you know, is dominated by the left.

At the United Nations, we have seen the ancient evil all dressed up in $5,000 suits worn by diplomats representing authoritarian regimes that routinely condemn Israel while the U.N. continues to subsidize Palestinian extremism.

Whether it is a skinhead, a PhD professor, an imam or Linda Sarsour, anti-Semitism is evil and must be denounced.

Denouncing David Duke

David Duke is like a zombie from a bad horror movie. Just when you think he’s gone for good, just when you think you’re finally rid of him, he comes back more vicious than ever. Once again, the former KKK leader has reared his ugly head.

Duke is basking in the headlines created from the tragedy in Charlottesville, Virginia. Just as he has done his entire life, he is again feeding off the pain of others, pain which he eagerly inflicts with his hateful rhetoric.

While there are many questions surrounding the sequence of events in Charlottesville — who was there, what their motives were, who started the violence — here’s some free advice: If David Duke shows up to an event, decent people should leave immediately.

Duke is a racist. He is a white supremacist. He is also a raving anti-Semite. His views have absolutely nothing to do with Christianity or conservatism. I am disgusted that David Duke is getting so much media attention right now.

But Duke had been out of the headlines for some time. And one reason you don’t hear about him regularly is that he often travels overseas and speaks to sympathetic audiences, especially in the Middle East.

During a speech in Syria, Duke praised dictator Bashar al-Assad and said that parts of America were “occupied by Zionists.” He has spoken at Holocaust-denying conferences in Iran, and is a frequent guest on Iranian media outlets.

Again, there is a reason Duke focuses so much of his time on the Middle East. The rantings of Adolf Hitler remain popular there, and this American fascist enjoys hanging out with Islamofascists.

A Warning

Various groups involved in the Charlottesville protests are planning other events around the country in coming weeks. Ostensibly, the cause is the preservation of historical monuments.

Whatever one thinks about such landmarks, it is important as Christians and conservatives that we do not make common cause with groups that are pursuing agendas of hate.

I would strongly urge anyone thinking about going to one of these demonstrations to stay away, especially given the risk that you will find yourself in the company of people who reject our most deeply held values.

Iceland’s Nazi Problem

Yes, you read that correctly. Iceland has a Nazi problem.

Representatives of Iceland’s government bragged in recent days that they have effectively ended Down syndrome. They have done no such thing. What they did do is murder virtually all the babies with Down syndrome while they were still in their mothers’ wombs.

One medical professional in Iceland said, “We don’t look at abortion as a murder. We look at it as a thing that we ended. . . And I think that is more right than seeing it as a murder — that’s so black and white. Life isn’t black and white. Life is grey.”

This mindset isn’t very different from how Hitler began his program to purify the German people. He herded those with diseases and disabilities to camps to be euthanized with “mercy deaths.” The Nazis determined that some lives were more valuable than others.

Life isn’t “grey.” Life is sacred!

Kudos to actress Patricia Heaton. Reacting to this report, she tweeted, “Iceland isn’t actually eliminating Down Syndrome. They’re just killing everybody that has it. Big difference.”

Fire & Fury Wins

President Trump warned North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un that he faced “fire and fury” if he attacked the United States or our allies. Secretary of Defense James Mattis said yesterday that if Kim fired missiles toward Guam or the U.S., “It’s game on. . . The bottom line is we will defend the country and for us that’s war.”

It seems North Korea’s Stalinist dictator got the message.

There are reports this morning that after receiving a briefing from his generals, Kim decided to change his mind. While we don’t know the content of the briefing, North Korea’s state-run media announced that planned missile launches toward Guam had been postponed.

Of course, nobody knows what was going on behind the scenes between the Trump Administration, the North Korean government and China. But here’s what we do know.

President Trump has been attacked daily as a war-mongering buffoon by the left-wing media complex and the “Resistance.” Yet, he managed to get the UN Security Council to impose the harshest sanctions in decades against North Korea.

It appears, for the moment at least, that the North Korean dictator has blinked, although you can be sure that U.S. intelligence and military officials are watching every move North Korean forces make. President Trump’s message of strength succeeded in spite of the best efforts of the political left and the American media.

They were sending messages of weakness and division to the North Korean government. They were portraying fear and hatred for our own president. It seemed as though many progressives preferred Kim over Trump. In fact, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN),deputy chairman of the Democrat National Committee, said that Kim Jong-un was acting more responsibly than President Trump.

I wonder what Rep. Ellison would say about Colin Powell’s warning to North Korea. In 1995, Powell said, “If we ever think that you’re going to use [a nuclear weapon], or if you do use one, you’ll become a charcoal briquette.” Sounds Trumpian.

If this “time out” on the Korean peninsula holds, and the sanctions, as well as other pressure, leads North Korea to stop its nuclear program, President Trump would be a strong contender for a Nobel Peace Prize. But I would not advise him to clear a place on his mantel yet.

As you may recall, President Obama won a Nobel Prize in his first year in office, even though he allowed the North Korean nuclear threat to fester for eight years, precipitating the current crisis.

The Cultural Revolution

In the 1960s, China’s communist rulers literally declared war against Chinese history, habits and symbols as Mao Zedong and his revolutionaries attempted to fundamentally transform China in their image. It ripped the social fabric of China. More than a million people were killed.

A similar cultural revolution may be underway in America. Last night, a mob tore down and destroyed a monument to a Southern soldier in Durham, North Carolina. According to local media reports, the mob was led by anti-fascists, the Democratic Socialists of America and the communist World Workers Party.

The fringe left is on fire. Its seething hatred of America has been unleashed. “Charlottesville is just the beginning,” one far left website declared. Another proudly proclaims that “capitalism is in crisis” and “The American state is collapsing.”

I am glad the North won the Civil War. But I am disgusted by the left’s desire to purge our history. I am sickened by the left’s disrespect for property. And I am outraged by the left’s eagerness to suppress opinions it disagrees with.

The left’s tendency toward totalitarianism and violent behavior is dangerous. It must be resisted just as vehemently as the racism of the KKK.

Will any reporter today ask Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer or Elizabeth Warren to denounce the Communist Party and the mob violence against historical landmarks?

Carried to its logical conclusion, eventually mobs will be marching on Monticello and Constitution Hall. Al Sharpton is on the record already. He said that the Jefferson Memorial cannot be permitted to stand as a publicly funded national monument.

Ultimately, this isn’t about Southern slave owners in the 1850s. The far left hates America — all of it, North and South, now and today. Our schools all too often are not teaching American history. They are teaching anti-American history.

Irony Abounds

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) issued a statement demanding that “every street, every school, every flag, and every public memorial honoring those who took up arms in defense of white supremacy and slavery” be removed or have its name changed.

That’s an interesting position for CAIR to take since it would require that every mosque in America be shut down. Mosques are dedicated to the teachings of Muhammad and Muhammad owned slaves. He took opponents as slaves after they were defeated on the battlefield.

Also joining the fray is Planned Parenthood, which tweeted, “#StandWithCharlottesville against racism & hate in your community.” This is coming from an organization founded by Margaret Sanger, who was a disgusting eugenicist. Her purpose in founding Planned Parenthood was to weed out “less desirable” populations.

Trump Addresses The Nation

Shortly after noon today, President Trump addressed the nation from the White House. His remarks, which largely echoed his comments from this weekend, were a powerful condemnation of bigotry and racism. He notably added a condemnation of specific groups, including the KKK, neo-Nazis and white supremacists.

The president vowed to bring those responsible for the violence in Charlottesville to justice, and he again called on all Americans to unite together in “love and loyalty.” Here are excerpts of the president’s statement:
“Based on the events that took place over the weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia, I would like to provide the nation with an update on the ongoing federal response to the horrific attack and violence that was witnessed by everyone. . .

“The Department of Justice has opened a civil rights investigation into the deadly car attack that killed one innocent American and wounded 20 others. To anyone who acted criminally in this weekend’s racist violence: You will be held fully accountable. Justice will be delivered.

“As I said on Saturday, we condemn in strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence. It has no place in America. And as I have said many times before, no matter the color of our skin, we all live under the same laws. We all salute the same great flag. And we are all made by the same almighty God.

“We must love each other, show affection for each other and unite together in condemnation of hatred, bigotry and violence. We must rediscover the bonds of love and loyalty that bring us together as Americans.

“Racism is evil. And those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans.

“We are a nation founded on the truth that all of us are created equal. We are equal in the eyes of our Creator. We are equal under the law. And we are equal under our Constitution. Those who spread violence in the name of bigotry strike at the very core of America. . .

“As a candidate, I promised to restore law and order to our country. And our federal law enforcement agencies are following through on that pledge. We will spare no resource in fighting so that every American child can grow up free from violence and fear.

“We will defend and protect the sacred rights of all Americans. And we will work together so that every citizen in this blessed land is free to follow their dreams in their hearts and to express the love and joy in their souls. Thank you. God bless you and God bless America.”

The teachings of Jesus Christ are the balm that can heal the wounds and divisions that are growing in America. Broken families, broken lives, broken communities can all be made whole by the Man of Galilee.

Racism in any form by members of any race is a sin. The basis of racial reconciliation is the knowledge that all human beings are made in the image of God.

Our liberty comes from God, not government. He is our ultimate “national defense.” Our Founders believed that without a reliance on Him the republic was doomed. They were right.

A Political Observation

The KKK, neo-Nazis and white supremacists have nothing to do with American conservatism. By and large, conservatives believe in limited government, lower taxes, family values, religious liberty, the sanctity of life and restoring our reliance on the God of Abraham.

Attempts to equate racists with conservatives is a disgusting smear that demonizes 63 million Americans who simply want our country to rededicate itself to faith, family and freedom.

What Now?

Sadly, many of the loudest voices this morning who are trying to exploit the horror in Charlottesville are part of the same ideology that has been waging war on Christianity in American public life.

  • In 1962 the left cheered when school prayer was ruled unconstitutional.
  • For three decades, radical secularists and groups like the ACLU have waged a “search and destroy” campaign against displays of the Ten Commandments on public grounds.
  • School textbooks have been “sanitized” so that the importance of faith in the American founding has been erased.
  • The second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence, which contains the founding idea of America — that our liberty comes from God — is seldom taught in public schools.
  • Lawsuits are regularly filed to remove “In God We Trust” from our currency or “under God” from our Pledge of Allegiance.
  • The First Amendment guarantee of freedom of religion is under heavy judicial attack. In recent years, Christians have been ordered to promote or subsidize acts and ideas contrary to their faith.
  • Christians who make faith-based arguments on the sanctity of life, the meaning of marriage and other issues have been compared by some public officials to the Taliban and ISIS.
  • Christians nominated to serve in appointed government positions have recently come under fire if they ever defended the central tenet of the Christian faith — that Christ is the only way to salvation.

I hope and pray that as part of the effort to stop the hate, the left will end its war on Christianity in the public square.

Standing Firm

Multiple big media outlets were in a tizzy again this morning. According to them, President Trump was “ratcheting up” tensions with North Korea when he wrote this tweet: “Military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded, should North Korea act unwisely. Hopefully Kim Jong-un will find another path!”

The president’s tweet is actually an effort to PREVENT a war. Trump is telling Kim that if he hits Guam or kills U.S. soldiers or attacks our navy, North Korea will pay a horrendous price. Any U.S. president who failed to respond to an attack on our people or territory would be inviting worse attacks and/or blackmail.

Think about the message that is being sent by our left-wing media and political elites. They appear to be suggesting that it is America that must back down when confronted by a rogue nation with nuclear weapons.

Incredibly, they are very close to telling our enemies that the United States should never go to war, even if we are attacked.

How Far Gone Is The Left?

If you needed any more evidence of just how far gone the left is when it comes to critical issues involving our national security, consider these examples:

  • Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) said this: “I do believe North Korea is [issuing] threats but I think there are some things they want from us. And we have to find out whether or not we can work with them on the things that they are asking for.” In other words, Waters is inviting nuclear blackmail and extortion.
  • More than 60 House Democrats sent a letter to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson condemning President Trump’s “irresponsible and dangerous” rhetoric. They urged Tillerson to ensure that the president and other officials speak and act “with the utmost caution and restraint.”

These so-called “progressives” are the same type of people who called Winston Churchill a warmonger in the 1930s. We are not the problem. It is America’s enemies who should be acting with “the utmost caution and restraint.”

  • Former Obama National Security Adviser Susan Rice published an editorial in the New York Times yesterday. Here was Rice’s “expert” opinion: “History shows that we can . . . tolerate nuclear weapons in North Korea — the same way we tolerated the far greater threat of thousands of Soviet nuclear weapons during the Cold War.”

That is the same misguided reasoning Obama used to justify his nuclear deal with Iran. (More on that below.) It is nonsense. The Soviets were, if nothing else, rational. They had a history with us in World War II. They knew what we were capable of. Iran and North Korea are controlled by zealots with zero respect for the United States.

  • North Korea’s ability to miniaturize a nuclear weapon (the essential step to putting a nuclear warhead on a missile) was news to most Americans. But Barack Obama knew about it in 2013. Given the extensive coordination between North Korea and Iran, this revelation makes Obama’s 2015 nuclear deal with Iran much worse.

Even if you assume that it prevents Iran from developing nuclear weapons, one of the biggest flaws with that deal is that it did not stop Iran’s development of missiles and ICBMs. Well, Iran doesn’t need to develop its own nuclear weapons. Thanks to Obama, the ayatollah can simply get one from his ally North Korea, while he builds his own long-range missiles.

    The Winning Strategy

For decades, Republican consultants have suggested that the GOP would be a stronger party if only it jettisoned its positions on controversial “values issues” and focused almost exclusively on the free market, capital gains tax cuts and entitlement reform.

I’m all for free markets. I understand the case for lower tax rates on capital gains. And I know spending reforms are necessary. But these are not issues that win the hearts and minds of most voters.

Perhaps you recall the “autopsy” the party conducted after Mitt Romney’s loss in 2012. It reinforced the Beltway’s group think and the conventional wisdom. It urged the party to move left on social issues and immigration. It is this mindset that explains much of the establishment’s hostility to Donald Trump.

Trump eschewed establishment Republican orthodoxy with his bold comments on the sanctity of life and immigration. Trump also vowed to protect Social Security.

And, as we all know, he wasn’t supposed to win. So how did he do it?

The fact is virtually everything the high-priced Beltway consultants have been saying is wrong. Several recent studies analyzing 2016 have concluded that Hillary Clinton lost because of cultural and values issues.

More evidence came in yesterday’s Wall Street Journal. Referring to the idea of a “Republican Workers Party,” Professor F. H. Buckley wrote:

“The sweet spot in American politics is . . . economic liberals and social conservatives. It’s the place where presidential elections are usually won, and the winner is usually going to be the candidate who won’t touch Social Security and who promises to nominate judges in the mold of Antonin Scalia. In other words — Donald Trump.”
Rather than singing the praises of Wall Street, Republicans should promote Main Street. Be the party of small business, not big business. Tax reform is good, but push tax cuts for working families, not billionaires.

Talk about creating jobs in America, not free trade and globalism. Voters want border security, not open borders. They want criminals handcuffed, not our cops.

And be bold and unapologetic in defending traditional American values — love of God, country and family.

    Other Headlines

  • Voters strongly support the RAISE Act, immigration reform legislation endorsed by President Trump.
  • President Trump stands by his policy prohibiting transgender individuals from serving in the military.
  • The Trump Justice Department supports Ohio’s effort to clean up its voter rolls, reversing Obama-era opposition.
  • Must see TV — Dr. Sebastian Gorka schools politically correct commentators on radical Islamic terrorism.
  • Obama-appointed federal judge orders new search for Clinton Benghazi emails.
  • Troops are being deployed to secure the southern border — Canada’s southern border as illegal immigrants self-deport from the United States.
  • The far-left magazine The Nation has published an article in which former intelligence experts assert that nobody, including the Russians, hacked the Democratic National Committee. They claim that the disclosure of the emails occurred as a result of an internal leak. If they are correct, this is a huge scandal.

The Post’s Propaganda

I was furious this morning after I finished reading my copy of today’s Pyongyang Post, I mean the Washington Post. It is hard to tell the difference. The left-wing media’s hyper-critical coverage of President Trump is matched only by the propaganda coming from North Korea’s state-run media.

Here’s the front page headline: “A Lack Of Coordination On North Korea.” The Post was fretting that Trump’s “fire and fury” threat had not been “formally vetted.” Other articles suggested that the Administration was divided and was sending mixed messages.

Donald Trump is president of the United States. With whom exactly is he supposed to “formally vet” his own statements? And senior military aides today all said that the president is sending the right message.

Yet in multiple articles in that paper and in hundreds of commentaries all over America, there is one theme and it will have one effect. While America may be on the brink of a significant war with North Korea, left-wing media outlets are doing everything they can to weaken the commander-in-chief.

It’s one thing to favor Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump. But these media behemoths apparently don’t mind helping Kim Jong-un as long as they can hurt Trump.

The theme of all these stories is that the president is “impulsive” and out-of-control, that he is not consulting experts, and is saying and doing things that will make war inevitable. This analysis is utter nonsense.

Let’s look at a couple of examples.

The President’s Statement

President Trump warned North Korea that if it attacked our allies or us, the response would be devastating. In doing so, he simply reiterated American military doctrine. If we are attacked, the response will be devastating. If an ally is attacked, it is taken as an attack on us and the response will be devastating.

Was the president supposed to ring up Secretary Tillerson and ask, “Am I allowed to say we will fight back if attacked?” Should he have called the editors of the Washington Post to get them to “vet” his statement first?

That’s not how leadership works. I understand the Washington Post did not get the leadership it wanted on November 8th. But if “President Hillary” had threatened Kim Jong-un with “fire and fury,” the Post would be praising her as the “American Iron Lady.”

Don’t be fooled into thinking this is only about “impulsive” rhetoric. This is all about the media’s obsession with destroying Trump, even while we are in a battle of wills with North Korea.

Consider this: In May, President Trump went to several different venues in Europe. During his trip, Trump declined to say that he was totally committed to Article V of the NATO treaty, which commits each nation to the mutual defense of all nations in the alliance. The New York Times declared: “President Trump Fails NATO.”

In other words, the same columnists and commentators who roundly condemned the president in May for not pledging himself to Europe’s defense are condemning him now for pledging himself to Asia’s defense. No matter what President Trump says, the same entities will attack him.

“Not Expected”

Another article in today’s Washington Post was totally predictable. It is a big piece quoting such luminaries as Ben Rhodes, the Obama official in charge of lying to us about the Iran nuclear deal, and other foreign policy “experts” on everything President Trump is doing wrong.

Rhodes told the Post that he and Obama warned Trump after the election that there was a real threat from North Korea. If that was in fact what they did say to President-elect Trump, there was a way to say it more accurately, and it would go something like this:

“Donald, I just want to let you know that for the last eight years, we didn’t do anything about North Korea. And, by the way, we didn’t spend much money on missile for our homeland defense either. So, you’re going to have a big crisis after you take the Oath of Office.”
Other foreign policy experts expressed their frustration that Trump’s approach was not expected, that he is “a departure from the temperate, consistent and balanced” approaches of the past. But those approaches have failed specifically because they were “temperate” and North Korea did not fear U.S. action.

Former U.N. Ambassador Bill Richardson is also getting a lot of attention recently. He suggested on CNBC this week that President Trump could learn from Bill Clinton’s diplomacy so that the worst doesn’t happen.

But the worst did happen. The purpose of all those negotiations was to prevent North Korea from having nuclear weapons that it could deliver to the U.S. homeland or our allies. Yet they are now on the brink of having exactly that because of those failed negotiations.

When it came to North Korea, President Clinton, President Bush and President Obama always “vetted” their statements and “coordinated” their inaction. They never said anything that seriously worried Pyongyang’s tyrants.

The fact that this president isn’t playing their game is what so offends Washington’s elites. Well, we didn’t elect a politician to continue “business as usual” or to pursue the failed policies of the past.

As the news continues to unfold, keep this mind: Everything the critics are saying is not only demonstrably false, it is making war with North Korea more likely. Everything Trump is saying that has critics so upset is true and will make war less likely.

Diplomacy Or War — A False Choice

Diplomacy without a credible military threat is worthless. President Trump got the U.N. to impose the toughest sanctions ever on North Korea. That diplomatic victory was accomplished because China, Russia and others concluded, “Trump is willing to go to war if we don’t come up with a way to stop the North Korean nuclear program.”

No aggressor will back down or make significant concessions unless they are convinced that the alternative is their possible destruction. Kim Jong-un must understand that this president is different. “All options” really are on the table.

Whether they realize it or not, every editorial attacking the Trump Administration’s policy of strength, and every preening politician droning on about diplomacy, undermines the president and increases the chances that Kim will assume we are too divided to act decisively. That miscalculation could lead the Stalinist dictator to do something for which there will be no alternative but to unleash fire and fury.

Fire & Fury

Here is a quick summary of major events that took place in the past 48 hours.

  • The Washington Post reported that North Korea has successfully miniaturized nuclear weapons — the essential step to delivering one with an ICBM. (If North Korea has miniaturized nuclear weapons then Iran has miniaturized nuclear weapons.)
  • U.S. intelligence reported that North Korea was loading cruise missiles onto patrol boats — threatening our aircraft carriers and other U.S. Navy vessels.
  • Official North Korean media announced that the regime is “carefully examining” a preemptive strike on Guam, home to more than 160,000 people and a major U.S. Air Force base. It also threatened the United States with “extinction.”
  • President Trump warned North Korea that if it dares to harm the U.S. or our allies, “they will be met with fire, fury and, frankly, power the likes of which this world has never seen before.”

Okay, class, here is your only test question today: Whom did Senators Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and John McCain (R-AZ) attack yesterday evening after these events? North Korea? No. The answer is . . . President Donald Trump.

You see, it is not deliverable nuclear warheads or cruise missiles or a third generation dictator threatening millions of Americans that has upset political elites. It is President Trump, who is refusing to follow the same failed, weak policies of the past.

Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer blasted the president for his “reckless rhetoric.” Sen. Feinstein said the president’s “bombastic comments” were not helpful. And Sen. McCain said this: “The great leaders I’ve seen don’t threaten unless they’re ready to act and I’m not sure President Trump is ready to act.”

For these politicians to be attacking the president’s rhetoric in the middle of a nuclear showdown is disgusting!

North Korea’s foreign policy has been very simple for decades: To march day-by-day toward becoming a nuclear power while threatening its neighbors. The past three presidents have followed the same bi-partisan foreign policy: Ask North Korea’s dictators how many billions of dollars we must give them to stop their nuclear program.

    Obviously that approach has failed.

And because three previous presidents have allowed this problem to be passed on to their successors, our current president now finds himself with virtually no room to maneuver. Clinton, Bush and Obama were playing for time. Now the clock has run out.

    Trump’s Audience

President Trump’s bold statement was directed to multiple audiences yesterday. The reason we got a 15-to-0 vote against North Korea at the U.N. Security Council last weekend is that President Trump likely said privately to the leaders of China and Russia exactly what he said publicly yesterday.

The president also has to be concerned with the people of South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Taiwan and Malaysia. If we give in again and pay the extortion North Korea is demanding because they are on the brink of a nuclear weapon, we lose all credibility in any serious confrontation with China, which already many nuclear weapons.

Of course, the president’s remarks were also for Kim Jong-un’s ears. He has grown up in a regime that has gotten its way year after year after year.

In spite of the comments of some politicians and big media editorial boards, the best thing that could happen in this situation is for the leader of North Korea to believe he has no idea what Donald Trump might do. Kim needs to understand that he is not dealing with Bill Clinton, George W. Bush or Barack Obama.

Trump’s words were also directed at the mullahs of Iran. They got their payoff from Obama. They banked their billions, and I guarantee they are continuing their nuclear program in vast underground bunkers.

Tehran is likely to provide the next round of harrowing headlines. The bill for the appeasement policies of the last president has still not been paid in full.

    Clueless Elites

Our foreign policy elites and our “leaders” in Congress are so clueless and confused that they think the problem is Trump’s rhetoric. They believe that more soft talk and no action is the solution.

If they prevail, future headlines will declare that Pyongyang has 15 armed ICBMs aimed at Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas, Denver, etc., and is demanding that we withdraw from South Korea and Japan.

This is an anxiety producing time. It is also a time when we should replenish depleted weapons systems, as well as replenish our moral reservoir and our reliance on the God of Abraham.
