Left Hijacking A Tragedy

Yesterday marked the first of two big protests for gun control.  Students walked out of class for 17 minutes in more than 3,000 demonstrations across the country.  The protest was billed as a memorial of sorts for the 17 teachers and students killed in the Parkland shooting.  Certainly many students participated for exactly that reason.

But it is obvious that this protest was driven by left-wing organizations that were not memorializing innocent children.  Instead, they were exploiting other children to advance a radical, anti-Second Amendment agenda.

Groups like the Women’s March Youth Empower, who paraded their daughters through Washington with obscene hats, played a big role.  By the way, the Women’s March, which is already in trouble for its leader’s affinity for anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan, celebrated a cop killer last year.

Major left-wing groups like MoveOn.org, Michael Bloomberg’s gun control organizations and Hollywood elites acted quickly to hijack the Parkland tragedy.  The left-wing pacifists of Code Pink used yesterday’s student walkout to demand an end to the Junior ROTC program on high school campuses.

As usual, the left has it exactly backwards.  At least three of Parkland’s JROTC students were heroes last month.  One of whom, Peter Wang, died protecting his classmates.  America should be encouraging more participation in JROTC programs, not less.

Schools Split

Reaction to the protests split school districts across the country.  Some promoted the protests, while others insisted students remain in class.

In Sayreville, New Jersey, School Board President Kevin Ciak was clear — students who left the building would be suspended.  “Schools do not have the ability to pick political issues,” Ciak insisted.  Good for him!

Here in the Washington, D.C., students from area high schools headed to Capitol Hill for what was obviously a pre-planned political rally.  Well-known, youthful reformers like Bernie Sanders, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi were waiting to join the demonstration against the Second Amendment.

And of course, Bernie was protected by heavily armed guards.

Having watched video of that event, I assure you it was in no way a memorial to anything.  There was raucous laughter and celebration.  About what exactly?  Seventeen children and teachers are dead largely because of the malfeasance of adults in local government and at the FBI, which received two warnings about the killer.

I have also seen multiple videos from all over the country showing students not mourning but gleefully holding anti-Trump signs.  At a school in Tennessee, students tore down the American flag and attacked a police car.

I would be interested in hearing from you.  How was this handled in your area?  Did local schools promote the walkouts or did they insist students stay in class?

There is also a certain irony in all of this.  Student organizers are quick to tell critics that they have a constitutional right to speak up.  But, of course, they are speaking up to do away with the constitutional rights that the rest of us have to own firearms to defend ourselves and our families.

Here’s an interesting mental exercise.  Imagine that there were a major religious group with as much money as George Soros.  Suppose it announced that it was asking schools all over America to release students for 17 minutes to pray for the victims of the Parkland shooting.

Does anyone think for a second that the entire left-wing establishment would have embraced such a request for students to pray?

Round Two

Another round of tax cuts may be coming.  For example, one of the left’s major attacks against the Trump tax cuts was that reductions in the corporate tax rate were made permanent while tax cuts for families were not.

Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, said this week, “While the tax cuts for families were long-term, they’re not yet permanent.  So we’re going to address issues like that.”

That would be a good idea.  Nancy Pelosi has already vowed to repeal major portions of the Trump tax cuts if her party gains power.  Republicans should force Democrats to go on the record for or against tax cuts for families as many times as they can.

Larry Kudlow, who has agreed to serve as White House economic adviser, has also suggested lowering the capital gains tax rate.

I am all for those things.  But I believe Republican leaders will be making a huge mistake if they think they can maintain the majority on tax cuts alone.  If the party is AWOL on values issues, immigration and border security, they will be letting down many Trump voters, the very people they need to turnout “bigly” in November.

The United Left

Saturday is St. Patrick’s Day.  In keeping with tradition, Leo Varadkar, the prime minister of Ireland, is in the United States promoting common interests.  But there is something else on his mind.

Mr. Varadkar is a liberal homosexual.  He met with President Trump today, and has been invited to have breakfast with Vice President Pence tomorrow.

Unfortunately, speaking with reporters, the Irish prime minister promised to lecture Vice President Pence about “the wider issue of equal rights and freedoms for LGBT citizens.”  You will recall that then-Governor Pence got into a major battle with the LGBT community when he tried to defend religious liberty in Indiana.

If the prime minister were in meetings in Iran, would he dare lecture the ayatollah on LGBT issues?  As you may know, that evil regime actually has a death penalty for homosexual conduct.

Meanwhile, President Trump and Vice President Pence are trying to stop the ayatollah from developing nuclear weapons.  But I suspect Prime Minister Varadkar, like most of the left, isn’t particularly supportive of President Trump’s approach toward Iran.

My friends, this is another reminder that the left not only hates Donald Trump’s populism, it also despises Vice President Pence’s commitment to conservative Christian values.  It’s also a reminder that the political left all over the world stands together against Judeo-Christian values.

Old School Parenting

Did you hear about the father who posted a video of his son running to school because he was kicked off the school bus for bullying?  The video went viral.  And predictably the progressive crowd did not react well to his example of old school parenting.

Unfortunately, our country has bigger problems than fathers with old school parenting styles.  Our country is facing a crisis of broken homes and fatherless families.  Read more in my latest opinion piece in The Hill.

Shakeup At State

President Trump announced this morning that Rex Tillerson was out as secretary of state.  Replacing him is CIA Director Mike Pompeo.  Gina Haspel, a 30-year veteran of the CIA, is taking over Pompeo’s position and will become the first woman to lead the Central Intelligence Agency.

Speaking to reporters this morning, the president cited significant policy disagreements with Tillerson on a host of issues.  Referring to Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran, Trump said, “I think it’s terrible, he thinks it’s okay.”

In contrast, Pompeo was a fierce critic of the Iran deal when he served in Congress.  He has been described as the “anti-Tillerson” for his “decisive and combative” style.  As one analyst put it, “Pompeo has a sort of hard-line approach on foreign policy that’s quite black and white.”

In other words, he is more in tune with Trump’s America first approach.  I hope he succeeds in bringing the left-wing, anti-Israel bureaucracy at the State Department to heel.

One Done, Two To Go

The House Intelligence Committee is ending its investigation of the 2016 election.  Speaking on Fox News last night, Rep. Mike Conway (R-TX), who has taken the lead on the collusion aspect of the investigation, said the committee has looked at 300,000 documents and interviewed 73 witnesses.

“Yes, the Russians tried to interfere with our election process,” Conway said.  But, he added, “We could find no evidence of collusion. . .  No evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians.”

As for the ongoing Mueller investigation, Conway said, “We didn’t find any evidence of collusion, and I don’t know that he will, either.”

Meanwhile, Senator Richard Burr (R-NC), chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, was asked by CNN if his committee has found any evidence of collusion.  “I’ve read a lot about it, but I haven’t seen any,” Burr answered.

Build That Wall

President Trump is in California today to inspect eight prototypes for his planned border wall with Mexico.  Open borders activists held a protest yesterday in San Diego, complete with signs denouncing the militarization of border communities as well as Mexican flags.

The White House is unfazed.  Speaking to reporters, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said, “The president campaigned on this, he talked about it extensively. . . this is something that he is not going to back away from.  It’s something that he’s going to continue to push for.”

As the Trump Administration moves forward with the wall, there is a lot of criticism about the potential cost.   But a study last year found that the border wall could easily pay for itself with just minor reductions in illegal immigration.

While the president pushes ahead with border security, the left is going in the exact opposite direction.  There are growing demands from the progressive movement to abolish the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.  Leading Democrats such as Nancy Pelosi have attacked ICE agents, suggesting their work is “bigoted,” “cruel and unjust.”  Other Democrats have compared ICE to the Gestapo.

Trump Blocks Broadcom

This may not be on your radar screen today, but President Trump did something very significant yesterday.  He blocked a takeover of Qualcomm by Broadcom, a Singapore-based company.

Qualcomm is a U.S. company that has developed significant technology with many national security implications.  Those concerns led Trump to stop the deal.

We believe this is another sign that the Trump/Pence team is putting America first.  There will be no more bad deals like Uranium One.  The days of kowtowing to China and looking the other way as they steal intellectual property and destroy U.S. manufacturing through dumping are over.

Still Seething

Well, Hillary Clinton tripped up again yesterday.  Seriously, she almost fell down a flight of stairs TWICE while touring the Jahaj Maha palace in India.  In addition to her ambulatory difficulties, her rhetoric is also making headlines.

Hillary is clearly still seething about 2016.  Here’s how she explained her loss to Donald Trump before an audience in India:

“[Democrats] do not do well with white men and we don’t do well with married, white women.  And part of that is . . . sort of ongoing pressure to vote the way that your husband, your boss, your son, whoever, believes you should. . .

“If you look at the map of the United States, there’s all that red in the middle where Trump won.  I win the coast. . .   I won the places that represent two-thirds of America’s gross domestic product.  So I won the places that are optimistic, diverse, dynamic, moving forward. . .

“And his whole campaign — ‘Make America Great Again’ — was looking backward.  You didn’t like black people getting rights; you don’t like women getting jobs; you don’t want to see that Indian American succeeding more than you are. . .”

So, Hillary starts off by blaming white women, who she suggests can’t think for themselves.  Then she brags about winning the wealthy parts of the country.  I thought the left claimed to represent the middle class and the poor.

She suggested anyone attracted to the idea of making America great was “looking backward.”  She may have apologized for calling Trump supporters “deplorable” and “irredeemable,” but she still believes they are.

And she really seems to be fighting battles from 60 years ago.  Hillary said people voted for Trump because they were upset about blacks getting rights.  She needs a history lesson.  It was the Republican Party under Abraham Lincoln that ended slavery and advanced civil rights for black Americans.

Hillary said Trump voters were upset about women getting jobs.  Well, many families today must have two incomes just to keep up because of the left’s big spending, high tax policies.

And her claim that Trump voters don’t want to see an Indian American succeeding is just bizarre.  Donald Trump wants a merit-based immigration system so that people with skills who can contribute to the economy are first in line.  India would likely benefit from such a program.

Americans are not upset when people come to the United States legally and succeed.  They are upset when people come to the country illegally, take jobs and their kids get free or reduced college tuition.

We are tired of coastal leftists constantly mocking our values and being made to feel like second-class citizens or strangers in our own country.  I know this is hard for many on the left to understand, but native-born citizens have dreams too.

Cohn Chaos

As you know, White House Chief Economic Adviser Gary Cohn resigned late yesterday afternoon.  There were reports for months that Cohn was unhappy in the White House.  (He is a Democrat, by the way.)

His resignation appears to stem from losing the argument over steel and aluminum tariffs.  His departure is also cordial.  Cohn praised President Trump and the president praised Cohn for his “dedicated service.”  But, of course, the media narrative is as damaging as possible.

Even on CNBC, which is supposed to be the capitalist network, multiple commentators said this morning that the tax bill would never have passed without Cohn’s ability to work with Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill.  But the tax bill was Trump’s idea, and not one Democrat voted for it.

Other commentators credited Cohn for repealing bad regulations.  Trump, not Cohn, ran on repealing unnecessary regulations and he will continue repealing unnecessary regulations.

As part of this “Cohn chaos” narrative, all the media are attacking the tariffs.  But the argument is contradictory.

Many financial analysts were saying that the tax cut was coming at exactly the wrong time.  They warned that it would make the economy “overheat,” leading to massive inflation, causing huge increases in interest rates.

The tax cut was valued at $1.5 trillion over ten years, or $150 billion a year.  Now the “experts” are claiming that the $9 billion tariffs will neutralize the tax cuts and cause a fragile economy to collapse.  Which is it?  Is the economy overheating or is it fragile?

Another emerging theme is: “Where is Trump getting these crazy ideas, and who will stop him now that Cohn is gone?”  Again, our elites do not understand Donald Trump.  He has been denouncing bad trade deals and talking about economic nationalism for decades.

Thousands of blue collar workers in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin did not turn out to vote in November 2016 for Gary Cohn.  They stood in line for hours to vote for Donald Trump because he promised to fight for their jobs and rebuild their communities.

The reason many previous Republicans nominees have struggled and largely failed to win those states is that they followed Cohn’s approach to economics.

I predict that in the weeks ahead, you will see some really great trade deals announced, including a much improved NAFTA that protects America’s interests.  It is so sad to see so many elites so upset about the idea of America winning again.

Trump Sues California

The Trump Justice Department filed a federal lawsuit last night seeking to overturn three California laws that effectively make the Golden State a sanctuary state for illegal immigrants.

Speaking to state and local law enforcement officers in Sacramento today, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said, “The Department of Justice and the Trump Administration are going to fight these unjust, unfair and unconstitutional policies that have been imposed on you.”

Referring to Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, who warned illegal immigrants of an impending immigration sweep, Sessions said, “How dare you needlessly endanger the lives of our law enforcement officers to promote a radical, open borders agenda!”

This lawsuit should be a slam dunk for the administration.

Remember back in 2010 when Arizona passed commonsense laws against illegal immigration?  The law was overwhelmingly popular with the American people.  A CBS/New York Times poll found that 63% of Americans felt the law was “about right” or “doesn’t go far enough.”

But the Obama Administration sued Arizona.  In 2012, the Supreme Court ruled 5-to-3 against the state on the grounds that enforcement of immigration law is the exclusive domain of the federal government.

That being the case, it stands to reason that states cannot interfere with the enforcement of federal immigration law or punish businesses that cooperate with federal authorities.  But since this case is starting out in left-wing courts on the left coast, I’m not expecting a quick victory in this battle.

That said, there is some good news to report:  Three separate federal courts have in recent days:

Investigating The Investigators

Two key congressional leaders yesterday joined the growing call for the appointment of a second special counsel to investigate 2016 campaign-related abuses by the FBI and the Obama Department of Justice.

Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, and Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, sent a letter to Attorney General Sessions stating, “There is evidence of bias, trending toward animus, among those charged with investigating serious cases.”

Goodlatte and Gowdy warned that the appointment of another special counsel was necessary due to conflicts of interest within the Department of Justice and the inability of the inspector general to access all relevant witnesses.

They concluded their letter by calling for the appointment of a special counsel to investigate:

  • Decisions made and not made by the Department of Justice and the FBI in 2016 and 2017.
  • Bias by federal employees or agents involved in these cases.
  • Whether decisions to charge or not charge were consistent with the law, policies and procedures.
  • Any abuses of the secret FISA court process.

What Blue Wave?

Texas voters went to the polls yesterday to cast their ballots in critical primary contests.  In recent days, there has been a lot of hype about high voter turnout, especially on the left.

And while it is true that Democrat numbers were up, the “Blue Wave” that was supposedly going to sweep Texas was more like a small splash by the time the votes were tallied.  For example:

  • Just over one million votes were cast in the Democrat gubernatorial primary, while more than 1.5 million votes were cast in the Republican primary.
  • Democrats are heavily targeting a GOP-held Dallas congressional seat that Hillary Clinton carried in 2016.  Yet more Republicans voted yesterday than Democrats.  If yesterday’s primary totals presage the November results, the Republican would prevail 51% to 49%.
  • Democrats are also targeting a GOP-held Houston seat that Clinton won.  But if the November results mirror yesterday’s vote, the Republican incumbent would win 53% to 47%.

In another setback for national Democrats, their leading fundraisers in at least three House races placed third or worse.  That means weaker, underfunded candidates will emerge from the runoffs.

In other news, I am pleased to report that CWF-endorsed candidate Chip Roy posted a strong first place showing atop a field of 18 candidates in the race for the 21st Congressional District.  Roy is a former chief of staff to Sen. Ted Cruz and also served as a senior adviser to Gov. Rick Perry.  He is exactly the kind of committed, principled conservative we need in Congress.  CWF will do everything we can to ensure Roy wins the May runoff and the November general election.

If you have not yet supported CWF this year, please stand with me now!

Losing Hope

There is general sadness in Washington among conservatives over the news that Hope Hicks resigned yesterday as White House Communications Director.  Hicks has been working with the Trump family in various capacities since 2012 and joined the Trump Organization full-time in 2014.

The media are suggesting that her resignation was spurred in part by her nine-hour testimony this week before the House Intelligence Committee.  But the timing appears to be coincidental.  Our friends in the Administration, including Kellyanne Conway, are saying that Hicks had expressed her intentions to leave a few weeks ago.

All presidents, but especially this one, need people they can trust, and Donald Trump definitely had a great deal of trust in Hope Hicks.  While the president can obviously talk to her anytime he wants, it is sad that she will not be in the White House regularly any longer.

Meanwhile, it is infuriating to see the media and the left (I know that’s redundant) talking about the turnover at the White House.  The decent men and women who work there, sometimes 20 hours a day, are routinely called “white supremacists,” “Nazis,” “bigots,” “traitors” and “Russian pawns.”

They have been harassed in public, as they are living and working in a city dominated by “tolerant” liberals who voted 91% to 4% for Hillary Clinton.  (Third party candidates and write-ins got more votes than Trump!)

The left has said it would ensure that they never work anywhere else.  And, to top it all off, many of them now know that their conversations with their colleagues during the campaign and the transition period may well have been monitored by Obama operatives embedded in our intelligence agencies.

Gee, what’s not to like?

Having served in the Reagan White House during the Iran Contra controversy, I know how difficult and draining it can be.  While Trump seems impervious to the attacks, many others are not, and serving in the White House has to be one of the most difficult jobs they will ever do.  Please keep these public servants in your prayers.

What The Left Thinks

We know what the typical progressive like Hillary Clinton really thinks about the Americans who are responsible for making 79% of the U.S. land mass red on Election Day 2016.  In her most infamous and revealing speech, Hillary called Middle Americans “deplorable” and “irredeemable.”

I’m not sure she ever used language like that about radical Islamists.  Usually the left wants to negotiate with our enemies, so they must think they are redeemable.  But Middle America stands in the way of creating the nation the left desperately wants.

So when leftists like Joy Behar attack the faith of Vice President Mike Pence, they are just using him as a stand in for you.  They think you are mentally ill if you listen for God’s direction in your life.

When they call the NRA “child murderers,” they are not talking about Wayne LaPierre or the folks working at the NRA’s headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia.  They are talking about the millions of Americans who own guns for hunting, self-defense, collecting or any other reason protected by our Constitution under the Second Amendment.

When you see a leading left-wing group suggest it should be more difficult for our men and women in uniform to vote, while places like Chicago are making it easy for illegal immigrants to vote, it shows how the left feels about our military.

When the mayor of Oakland warns criminal illegal immigrants of an impending enforcement operation, it shows what little respect the left has for law enforcement.

When millionaire social justice warriors refuse to stand for our national anthem, it shows what the left thinks about America and the patriots who love her.

This is not a new or profound thought, but it is worth repeating.  Our faith and our values are not the problem.  Don’t ever believe that.  Not even for a second.

Conservatives did not start the culture war.  The left did.

Whether it was taking prayer out of the public schools, undermining the sanctity of life, attacking the idea of nationhood, citizenship and borders, or redefining biology, the left is waging a cultural jihad to marginalize normalcy and make traditional values unspeakable.

This is our country too.  We must fight to defend our values!

Minister Of Hate

Minister Louis Farrakhan is back in the news.  He is a disgusting, hateful anti-Semite.  He has called Judaism a “gutter religion.”

Over the weekend Farrakhan declared that “the powerful Jews are my enemy,” and “white folks are going down.”  He also said, “Jews were responsible for all of this filth and degenerate behavior that Hollywood is putting out, turning men into women and women into men.”

Kudos to CNN’s Jake Tapper and The Washington Examiner for exposing Farrakhan’s latest outrage.

What Farrakhan said is disturbing enough.  But what is even more disturbing is that the left continues to play footsie with Farrakhan.

When David Duke tried to become part of the conservative movement, conservative leaders, including me, did not hesitate to publicly denounce him.  But many on the left seem unable or unwilling to do the same with Farrakhan.

Barack Obama stayed in a church that gave Farrakhan an award.  And we recently learned that then-Senator Obama and other members of Congress had a great time hosting this minister of hate at a secret meeting.

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), now the deputy chairman of the Democrat National Committee, has repeatedly lied about his relationship with Farrakhan.  Of course, Farrakhan blames the Jews for Ellison’s deception.

I noticed Nancy Pelosi denounced the Trump Administration and ICE agents this week for “terrorizing innocent immigrant families” in pursuit of a “blatantly bigoted . . . agenda.”  I checked Pelosi’s website and saw no condemnation of Louis Farrakhan’s latest blatantly bigoted speech.

There are multiple left-wing members of Congress who have worked with this Jew-hating bigot.  We will do everything we can to expose them.  Please help us fight the left.

Left-wing Lunacy

If you need another example of the lunacy of the left, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf would be Exhibit A.

Saturday night, Mayor Schaaf warned Oakland residents that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents would be conducting operations “within the next 24 hours.”  Schaaf also warned local business owners that California was a sanctuary state and it was illegal under state law for them to assist federal immigration authorities.

ICE agents did conduct sweeps through Oakland and arrested 150 illegal immigrants.  But more than 850 targets of the operation escaped, likely because Mayor Schaaf tipped them off.

Schaaf is unapologetic.  She claimed that it was her “duty and moral obligation as mayor to give those families fair warning.”

Sorry, Madame Mayor, but your obligation is to enforce the law and guarantee public safety.  Illegal immigration is ILLEGAL.  And the vast majority of ICE targets are wanted criminals.

Schaaf’s actions violated her duty and ensured that criminal illegal immigrants will remain on the streets and will continue to prey on the very community that the mayor thought she was helping.  The Justice Department should prosecute Mayor Schaaf for aiding and abetting known fugitives.

ICE Deputy Director Thomas Homan blasted Mayor Schaaf’s warning as “reckless” and “irresponsible.”  In a statement, Homan noted that because of California’s sanctuary policies, ICE agents cannot arrest illegal immigrants “in the secure confines of a jail,” and are forced to conduct public sweeps, which increase the risks to agents and to citizens in the community.

Homan also blamed the mayor for the fact that more than 850 individuals escaped arrest.  One of those suspects who remains at large has several arrests for drug possession, probation violations and sex with a minor.

By the way, if the FBI was conducting raids of native-born gang members, would the mayor warn them too?  Or does she only give “fair warning” to illegal immigrants?

Whether it’s granting in-state college tuition to illegal immigrants at the expense of native-born students or tipping off illegal immigrant criminals, the left always puts Americans last.

Thankfully we have a president who is determined to put America first!

Stand with CWF right now.  Help us support President Trump as he fights the lunacy of left.

Sanity On School Shootings

The left’s lunacy is not limited to its open borders ideology.  As we have seen in the wake of the Parkland school shooting, the left is totally irrational when it comes to the Second Amendment.

But here is an important fact you probably have not heard: According to researchers at Northeastern University (not the NRA) mass school shootings are “extremely rare.”  They also found that “four times as many children were killed in schools in the 1990s than today.”

In other words, schools are safer today than they were 20 years ago.  Nevertheless, left-wing politicians and their media allies are in a frenzy to limit Second Amendment rights based on the idea that our children are not safe.

But James Alan Fox, a Northeastern University professor of criminology, says, “There is not an epidemic of school shootings.”  Of the dozens of mass murders that take place every year, only one on average occurs at a school.

While it is tragic that even a single child would die in school, Professor Fox notes that more children die each year from pool drownings or bicycle accidents.

Meanwhile, a new Politico poll finds that 50% of voters support arming teachers and school staff, just like we armed pilots after 9/11.  Forty-two percent of voters oppose the idea.  The poll also found that corporate NRA boycotts are backfiring with the public.

Honoring Billy Graham

The body of Reverend Billy Graham arrived on Capitol Hill this morning.  Graham will lie in honor in the Capitol Rotunda, an honor granted to only three other American citizens.

President Trump addressed the service this morning in the Capitol Rotunda.  He recalled that his father, Fred, was “a big fan” and took the Trump family to hear Billy Graham at Yankee Stadium in 1957.  Below are some excerpts of the president’s remarks.

“We can only imagine the number of lives touched by the preaching and the prayers of Billy Graham; the hearts he changed, the sorrows he eased, and the joy he brought to so many.  The testimony is endless.

“Today, we give thanks for this extraordinary life.  And it’s very fitting that we do so right here in the Rotunda of the United States Capitol, where the memory of the American people is enshrined.

“Here in this room, we are reminded that America is a nation sustained by prayer.  The painting to my left is of the Pilgrims as they embark for America, holding fast to the Bible, and bowing their heads in prayer.

“Along these walls, we see the faces of Americans who prayed as they stood on the Lexington Green, who prayed as they headed west, prayed as they headed into battle, and prayed as they marched for justice, and always marched for victory.

“Around us stand the statues of heroes who led the nation in prayer during the great and difficult times, from Washington to Lincoln to Eisenhower to King.  And today, in the center of this great chamber, lies legendary Billy Graham, an ambassador for Christ who reminded the world of the power of prayer and the gift of God’s grace.”

Tonight, Jews all over the world will celebrate Purim.  It is the story of Queen Esther, who broke protocol and saved the Jewish people in Persia from a plot to annihilate them, or what was essentially a potential holocaust.

Just as it did so many centuries ago, Israel is once again facing an existential threat from modern day Persia.  Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, routinely promises a second Holocaust and the annihilation of Israel.

His regime is working feverishly to develop ballistic missiles and other weapons of mass destruction, while his terrorist proxies, Hamas and Hezbollah, encircle the Jewish state from Gaza, Lebanon and Syria.

So long as God gives me breath, I promise to fight the ancient evil of anti-Semitism and to always stand with Israel and its people, the apple of God’s eye.

To all of our Jewish friends and supporters, Chag Purim Sameach!

Four More Years

President Trump made a surprising announcement today — he is running for reelection and has already chosen his campaign manager.  Trump’s reelection announcement is the earliest ever by a sitting president.

It’s not entirely clear what prompted today’s 2020 statement, well before the 2018 mid-term elections. But the president could be making it clear to his left-wing critics screaming for impeachment and the #NeverTrumpers that he isn’t going anywhere, and that he plans to forcefully fight for his agenda as well as four more years.

The Intolerant Left

In recent days, we have told you about the growing number of businesses that are cutting off the NRA and treating its supporters like lepers.  Once again, our corporate elites are out of touch with reality.

A new Rasmussen poll finds that most Americans (54%) blame government failures for the Parkland shootings, while just 33% blame the deaths on inadequate gun control laws.  Among Americans with school-age children, 61% blame government failures, and only 23% blame inadequate gun control.

Here’s a point many people are missing:  The intolerant left is using big business to punish conservatives and to force its radical agenda on the American people, an agenda the left has been unable to win with at the ballot box.

Perhaps the clearest sign that the left had gained a critical mass among our corporate elites occurred when then-Governor Mike Pence signed legislation to protect religious liberty in Indiana.

The legislation was modeled on existing federal law that upholds the First Amendment, yet Pence was viciously attacked by left-wing groups.  Then, to the surprise of many, major Fortune 500 companies joined the assault.  Big Sports jumped on the left’s bandwagon with the NFL, the NBA and the NCAA threatening to cancel events in Indiana.

Keep in mind that this controversy erupted simply because Indiana’s elected officials did not want religious business owners to be forced to participate in ceremonies that went against the teachings of their faith.  The same thing happened in North Carolina when legislators attempted to keep men out of women’s restrooms.

What is happening now to the NRA is just another reminder that the left’s real goal is not to have a “national conversation” about anything.  Its goal is to make conservatism unspeakable, if not illegal.

And don’t think the left’s intolerance won’t affect you.  Remember the Google employee who wrote a memo about the suffocating left-wing indoctrination at that company?  He was fired.

Liberal commentators demanded his name be released, as one CNBC host said, “So he will never work again.”  How’s that for tolerance of differing opinions?

It’s not that far of a leap from Delta saying it will no longer give discounts to NRA members to Delta declaring that it will not hire NRA members.

Court News

The Supreme Court heard arguments yesterday on a big case involving compulsory union dues.  The justices split four-to-four in a similar case in 2016 after Antonin Scalia died, and that divide was on full display yesterday.

Scalia’s successor, Justice Neil Gorsuch, did not tip his hand during the hour-long hearing, but he is expected to be on the side of individual liberty.

For all the hyperventilating right now about the NRA’s influence, unions gave more than $1 billion to left-wing causes and liberal candidates in recent years, much of it from forced dues.  (Just another example of the left forcing people to do what it demands.)

Unfortunately, the justices turned down the Administration’s request to hear a case on DACA, Barack Obama’s quasi-amnesty program.  President Trump wants to terminate the program, but lower courts have ordered him to keep it in effect.

There is already one court ruling that Obama lacked the authority to create executive amnesty programs.  But the justices punted yesterday saying they wanted the lower courts to fully evaluate the constitutional issues at stake.

I don’t understand how there can be any debate over whether the president is exercising his authority to repeal a program that his predecessor created by overstepping his.

Meanwhile, 20 states are taking aim at Obamacare again.  You may recall that the only way the Supreme Court upheld Obamacare in 2012 was because the individual mandate was a tax that raised revenue for the government.

Well, Congress just repealed the individual mandate, so these states are asking the courts to repeal the rest of Obamacare too.

Trump’s Courage

President Trump met yesterday with many of the nation’s governors.  While discussing the Parkland school shooting, he said, “You don’t know until you test it, but . . . I really believe I’d run in there, even if I didn’t have a weapon, and I think most of the people in this room would have done that too.”

A lot of armchair critics in the media are mocking the idea that Donald Trump would do something brave.  His efforts to reverse the left-wing agenda and resist political correctness certainly are brave.

But on physical bravery, there is some evidence of that too.  Trump once confronted a thug who was attacking another man with a baseball bat.

Obama’s Secret Speech

Barack Obama gave a speech last week to the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference at MIT.  Yet his remarks came with a ground rule that no one was allowed to quote him on anything.  Violators would be expelled and banned from future conferences.

Incredibly, that rule was observed for several days until the speech was leaked last night.  Obama said nothing particularly noteworthy.  But one of the things he did say was, “We didn’t have a scandal that embarrassed us.”

The former president is clearly in the late stages of the disease known as “Progressivism,” in which sufferers begin to lose touch with reality.

Just as a friendly reminder to the former president, a lot of us were embarrassed by:

The Benghazi scandal. . .

The IRS scandal. . .

The VA scandal. . .

The Fast & Furious scandal. . .

Hillary’s email scandal. . .

Obama’s scandalous collusion with Iran, and. . .

The abuse of our intelligence agencies to spy on political rivals.

Schiff Memo Released

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and other Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee released their memo over the weekend.  The Schiff memo was supposed to counter the Nunes memo, which outlined how elements of the “Deep State” tried to sabotage the Trump Administration.

The Schiff memo is a complete failure.  You can tell because they wouldn’t have released it on a Saturday afternoon if it was at all compelling.

Former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy wrote that the Schiff memo confirms that the FBI relied entirely on the discredited Steele dossier to obtain a warrant to wiretap Carter Page and that the government misled the court regarding its origins.  That warrant was the foot in the door to monitoring others within the Trump transition team.

Nothing in the Schiff memo undercuts the work of House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes.  In fact, McCarthy summed up his analysis of the Schiff memo by writing that it “does more to harm than to advance the Democrats’ defense of the Obama administration and the use of the FISA process by the FBI and the DOJ.”

By the way, the media and the left are lying again when they suggest that the Trump Administration deliberately blocked its release.  The Schiff memo went through the same process as the Nunes memo.

There was a committee vote, and then the memo had to be vetted by appropriate intelligence agencies.  But unlike the Nunes memo, Democrats intentionally includedmaterial that had to be redacted, which delayed the process.

Here’s the bottom line, friends:  Even with all the monitoring and intercepts that occurred, no one found any evidence of collusion with Russia because there wasn’t any.

Let me remind you that Russia’s meddling effort wasn’t meant to elect Trump.  It was intended to exacerbate tensions within America.  And it continues to this day with the Russian operatives exploiting the Parkland shooting and divisions over gun control.

Sheriff Under Investigation

Over the weekend, Florida House Speaker Richard Corcoran and more than 70 state legislators sent a letter to Governor Rick Scott demanding the removal of Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel for “incompetence and neglect of duty.”

The letter comes after news that local law enforcement officials received more than 20 calls about school shooter Nikolas Cruz, including warnings that he had held a gun to heads of relatives and fears that he “planned to shoot up the school.”

Yesterday, Governor Rick Scott announced that he had ordered an immediate investigation of the response to the Parkland school shooting.  That investigation will be conducted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Sheriff Scott Israel is refusing to step down.  Israel is aggressively defending himself in the media, and continuing to attack the NRA.

By the way, in recent years a member of Sheriff Israel’s team has been busy briefing Florida mosques on active shooter situations.  His advice to the mosque members:  “Arm yourselves.”  So Sheriff Israel and his team think mosque attendees should arm themselves but public school employees should not.

Media Madness

It would be virtually impossible to offer an award for ridiculous headlines because there are too many possible recipients.  But a recent headline from a Washington Post editorial is a clear front runner:  “Guns Are Killing Our Inalienable Right To Life.”  This is from a newspaper that never saw an abortion it didn’t like.

The taking of 17 innocent lives in Parkland, Florida, was an evil act.  But the daily carnage from abortion is well over 1,700 innocent lives lost.

Sadly, there is no media outrage about the inalienable right to life for innocent children in the womb.  While corporate sponsors are abandoning the NRA, Planned Parenthood has no trouble raking in corporate cash.

A Simple Casket

Several years ago, the Graham family decided that Billy and Ruth Graham would be buried in simple pine caskets.  The source of those caskets, however, would likely surprise many people.  They were made by convicts at the nation’s largest maximum security prison in Angola, Louisiana.

Richard “Grasshopper” Liggett was one of the inmates who built the Grahams’ caskets.  At the time, he said, “Billy Graham is a simple man who preached a simple message.  He must be buried in a simple casket.”  You can read about the tremendous transformation of the Angola prison here.
