Trump Takes On Taxes

President Trump addressed workers yesterday at the Loren Cook Company in Springfield, Missouri. He chose the 76 year-old manufacturing company with 1,000 employees to stress the importance of tax reform in creating good-paying jobs here in America.

In his remarks, President Trump outlined four principles for tax reform:

“First and foremost, our tax system should benefit loyal, hardworking Americans and their families. That is why tax reform must dramatically simplify the tax code, eliminate special interest loopholes. . . And allow the vast majority of our citizens to file their taxes on a single, simple page without having to hire an accountant.

“Second, we need a competitive tax code that creates more jobs and higher wages for Americans. . . We cannot restore our wealth if we continue to put our businesses at such a tremendous disadvantage. We must reduce the tax rate on American businesses so they keep jobs in America, create jobs in America, and compete for workers right here in America. . .

“The third principle for tax reform is a crucial one: Tax relief for middle-class families. . . We will lower taxes for middle-income Americans so they can keep more of their hard-earned paychecks. . . We believe that ordinary Americans know better than Washington how to spend their own money, and we want to help them take home as much of their money as possible. . .

“Fourth and finally, we want to bring back trillions of dollars in wealth that’s parked overseas. . . we can return trillions and trillions of dollars to our economy and spur billions of dollars in new investments in our struggling communities and throughout our nation. . .

“My administration is embracing a new economic model. It’s called very simply: The American Model. Under this system, we will encourage companies to hire and grow in America, to raise wages for American workers, and to help rebuild our American cities and communities. That is how we will all succeed and grow together, as one team, with one shared sense of purpose, and one glorious American destiny.”
While the details of the plan will be negotiated with Congress, President Trump’s tax reform principles are terrific! If a plan similar to this passes Congress, I believe the economy will be booming in short order.

Members of Congress are still home for the August recess. Let them know that you want tax reform done! Tell them to stop punishing success. Tell them to pass pro-family, pro-growth reforms that will boost our economy, simplify the tax code and make America great again!

Left-wing Hate

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) bills itself as an anti-hate group, but in fact it is promoting hate of Christians and conservatives, and even Muslims who want to reform Islam. The SPLC links mainstream conservative groups like the Alliance Defending Freedom and the Family Research Council, which I led for ten years, to real hate groups such as the KKK and neo-Nazis.

The Washington Free Beacon has done a tremendous examination of the SPLC’s publicly available tax documents. There are lots of interesting details.

The group is massive. It is rolling in money, with $380 million in assets. Immediately after the Charlottesville rioting, the SPLC put the screws to top corporations, shaking them down for donations. In many cases, it wasn’t a tough sell. Our corporate elitesare often left-wing. Apple CEO Tim Cook, for example, donated $1 million to the SPLC after Charlottesville.

But what caught my attention in the Free Beacon report was this fact: The SPLC is regularly sending large sums of money to offshore foreign accounts. What charity does that? Tax experts interviewed by the Free Beacon were stunned.

Amy Sterling Casil, CEO of a nonprofit consulting firm, said, “I’ve never known a US-based nonprofit dealing in human rights or social services to have any foreign bank accounts. . . It is a huge red flag.” Casil called the practice “unethical” for a charity, adding, “I know of no legitimate reason for any US-based nonprofit to put money in overseas, unregulated bank accounts.”

Kudos to the Washington Free Beacon for this excellent example of real journalism. Of course, you won’t hear about this on the evening news or read about it in the New York Times or the Washington Post.

Speaking Of Shady. . .

The left is once again proving its utter obsession with identity politics. Earlier this week, the Women’s March tweeted out a list of organizations “working to keep immigrant, Black, Latinx & other communities safe after Hurricane Harvey.”

Seriously?! Even in the middle of this tremendous tragedy, the left insists on dividing the victims by race.

Not surprisingly, Linda Sarsour got in on the act too. Sarsour, as you may recall, is a radical Palestinian activist and a leader of the Women’s March.

Sarsour tweeted, “Donate to the #Harvey Hurricane Relief Fund.” But anyone who clicked on the link was directed to a myriad of left-wing “community organizing” groups. There is no indication at all that any money donated through Sarsour’s link would actually go to hurricane relief.

And her record in this regard is not good. After several Jewish cemeteries were vandalized, Sarsour was quick to launch an online “Muslims Unite to Repair Jewish Cemetery” campaign. According to The Algemeiner, more than $160,000 was raised, but only $50,000 was donated. And one historic Colorado cemetery that was promised $100,000 never saw a dime.

Politico Piles On

As the ACLU recently learned, many leftists see a little white toddler with an American flag as a symbol of white supremacism and a threat to the Republic. Not surprisingly, the typical Texas couple are now targets of left-wing vilification, even if they are in danger of drowning in a hurricane.

Check out this disgusting cartoon from Politico.

Drawn by Matt Wuerker, it shows a white Texas couple being rescued from the roof of their home. Then it proceeds to mock their faith and political views. This repulsive cartoon is an attack on millions of people, including thousands of Texans who are facing the biggest crisis of their lives.

If someone produced a cartoon mocking black families in New Orleans during Katrina, such a disgusting caricature would be roundly condemned and the cartoonist would be unemployed.

In the unlikely event that Mr. Wuerker is feeling badly about his insult to flood victims, I would like to hook him up with the good folks in the Cajun Navy so he can do some community service this holiday weekend.

He Did It!

They said it couldn’t be done. “Impossible.” “Impractical.” “Unrealistic.” I’m referring to one of Donald Trump’s key campaign pledges — to achieve 3% economic growth.

Every liberal in Washington, D.C., over the last eight years said that Obama’s sluggish economy was “the new normal” and we should just get used to it. They mocked Trump for suggesting we could do better.

Well, this morning the Commerce Department released revised figures on second quarter economic output and it revised the figures up from 2.6% to 3%. You will wait in vain today for all those liberal commentators to issue their mea culpas.

I understand presidents don’t deserve all the credit or all the blame for the economy. But their policies do make a difference, and this president has made economic growth a central focus of his administration.

One of the most important things any president can do in that regard is simply to get Washington out of the way. Granted, regulatory reform doesn’t make headlines. It rarely gets hearts beating faster. But when it comes to cutting red tape, Trump has been incredibly successful.

Certainly more could be done. That is why President Trump is delivering an address today on tax reform in Springfield, Missouri. According to various reports, the president won’t outline specific details of his plan. Instead, he will make the broader case for why tax reform is needed and how it will help create jobs and provide a shot in the arm to the overall economy.

And it couldn’t come at a better time. Hurricane Harvey dealt a severe blow to a crucial part of the country’s economic engine.

I would love to see a bold tax reform plan pass Congress. I disagree with my friend Larry Kudlow, who says we should do the easiest thing possible, such as, cutting corporate tax rates and bringing back corporate profits held in other countries. I’m all for that, but there must be measures that help working class families.

It would be disastrous for this president and congressional Republicans to pass a tax cut that does not provide real relief to the middle class.

Condemning Antifa

Guess who said this:

“Our democracy has no room for inciting violence or endangering the public, no matter the ideology of those who commit such acts. The violent actions of people calling themselves Antifa in Berkeley this weekend deserve unequivocal condemnation, and the perpetrators should be arrested and prosecuted.”
Donald Trump? No. Attorney General Jeff Sessions? Nope. Me? I have been saying essentially the same thing, but that’s not today’s news.

Apparently, some progressive leaders are starting to realize the obvious dangers of being associated with Antifa. Yesterday, House Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi issued that stinging rebuke calling for Antifa members to be arrested and prosecuted. Good for you, Nancy!

By the way, for all the criticism directed at President Trump following the clash in Charlottesville, Democrats are facing their own divisions.

In fact, the Democrat mayor of Charlottesville is facing growing criticism for his handling of events. It turns out that federal officials at the Department of Homeland Security warned state and local leaders three days in advance that both sides were gearing up for a big fight.

Incredibly, the DHS memo warned that the same groups had clashed in Charlottesville not once, but twice before the violent events of August 12th.

James Gagliano, a retired FBI SWAT team leader, said, “It is unconscionable that with so much advance notice of the declared intentions of extremist groups from the left and right vowing to descend upon Charlottesville that law enforcement was not better prepared.”

The Charlottesville City Council is holding a special closed-door session today, reportedly to review the actions of Mayor Michael Singer.

“Harvey’s Heroes”

While there is no denying the troubles confronting our nation today, one thing remains true: America retains a vast reservoir of good and decent men and women who, even at great risk to themselves, can be relied upon to do the right thing. And that is something worth celebrating!

I encourage you to read this report on “Harvey’s Heroes” by The Stream’s Liberty McArtor. Please share it with friends and family.

Antifa’s Goal

In yesterday’s report, I told you about the black clad, left-wing fascists who attacked an anti-hate rally in Berkeley over the weekend. This so-called “Antifa” group claims to be fighting fascism, yet it is just as dangerous as that toxic ideology.

For proof, check out this video. Antifa protestors are seen chanting, “No Trump! No Wall. No USA At All!”

These demonstrators are the storm troopers of globalism. Don’t deceive yourself into thinking that this is just a backlash to Trump or to his aggressive border security policies. Their extremism goes far beyond that.

They are very clear that they don’t want America even to exist!

Sadly, these people went to our public schools. Many of them are college graduates. How did they go through our educational system and come out hating their own country this much?

While the media are looking for neo-Nazis, these fascists are proudly marching on college campuses and in major cities, beating up anyone who stands up to them. Sadly very few progressive politicians have denounced them.

It is imperative that conservatives and the Republican Party make the left and the media own Antifa. We must be focused. Every conservative and GOP official should use every public appearance to demand that Democrats and journalists condemn Antifa’s violent tactics and its stated goal of destroying America.

To our friends at the RNC: Are you working on the ad campaign yet?

To GOP consultants: Instead of telling candidates to abandon conservative issues, tell them to go on offense and force the left to own Antifa.

To local politicians: No police department should ever be ordered to stand down in the face of these fascist thugs. Their lawlessness and violence should be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible.

To our allies in Congress: Key homeland security committees should schedule public hearings on Antifa now.

To our friends in the Administration: The FBI and Department of Justice should designate Antifa as a domestic terrorist group. Every available resource should be dedicated to shutting it down. And the Department of Education should immediately notify all colleges and universities (especially those hostile to conservative and Christian clubs) that support for Antifa will result in a loss of federal funding. Professors who defend their violence and anti-First Amendment tactics should be fired.

Kim Ups The Ante

North Korea test-fired another ballistic missile, but this time Kim Jong-un upped the ante. In a deliberately provocative act, Kim ordered this missile to fly over northern Japan, endangering innocent lives.

Incredibly, many in the foreign policy establishment insist that we must live with this. They make it sound as if there is a bad option and a good option.

The bad option is to try to destroy Kim’s nuclear program.

The good option is to stop joint military exercises with South Korea and acquiesce to other demands the criminal enterprise in Pyongyang might make.

Our foreign policy elites have chosen the “good option” every step of the way for the past 20 years, which is why we are in this situation today.

If you were a citizen of Japan, this morning you would have woken up to the equivalent of our Amber alerts. Cell phones, radio and TV stations were blaring the following message: “Missile launch. Missile launch. A missile was fired from North Korea. Please evacuate to a sturdy building or basement.”

Does anyone think the citizens of Japan should be forced to regularly seek shelter every time Kim gets cranky? How is that a “good option” for a nation with the world’s third largest economy?

By the way, as all of this is unfolding, the man who was president for the past eight years continues to get a free ride. Where is the reporter who will look into the camera and say, “Former President Obama, what were you doing to rid the world of North Korea’s nuclear blackmail? And why did you think it was a good idea to cut a nuclear deal with Kim Jong-un’s allies — the mullahs of Iran?”

Record Rain

Houston continues to get pummeled by record rainfall. There is incredible suffering. Yet the many helping hands, the rescues and other selfless acts are lifting the spirits of a deeply divided nation. The example being set in Texas stands in stark contrast to what we saw in Berkeley this weekend.

I alluded to this yesterday, but it is worth mentioning again. For the last six weeks, not only have dead Southerners been under attack, but the South as a whole has been berated because of its cultural conservatism. The entire weight of elite opinion has been dedicated to attacking Southern culture.

Every time a jihadist yells “Allahu akbar!” while blowing himself up or decapitating an innocent victim, our politically correct media complex insists that the jihadist has nothing to do with Islam. Yet when a maniac drove his car into a crowd of protestors, tragically taking the life of a young woman, that same media complex insisted that the driver of that car had everything to do with the South.

Why is this hatred for the South growing the further away we get from the Civil War?

I suspect it is because the South has been the most resistant to the left’s cultural revolution, and because its electoral votes have been the most dependable for conservative presidents, including the hated Ronald Reagan and the despised Donald Trump.

The people of the South love God and Country. They believe in the Second Amendment. Their sons and daughters volunteer for military service at higher rates.

Here’s an idea for Republican strategists: Stop being embarrassed by the South. Start defending your most loyal voters with the same passion that the left shows for its pro-abortion, transgender, illegal immigrant, pot-smoking base!

Harvey Slams Houston

Hurricane Harvey slammed into the Texas coast Friday night. Over the weekend, I watched the images of terrible flooding and suffering in the coastal areas of Texas and Houston, as I am sure you did.

“The breadth and intensity of this rainfall are beyond anything experienced before,” the National Weather Service said. “Catastrophic flooding is . . . expected to continue for days.” Mandatory evacuations were ordered this morning as rivers are fast approaching record levels.

At least five people have been killed. Three hundred thousand people are without power, and Governor Greg Abbott has mobilized all 12,000 members of the Texas National Guard to assist with rescue efforts.

Our prayers continue to go out to all those afflicted by this natural disaster. It always makes me sad to see the images of people who, in many cases, have lost everything and whose lives will be affected for years to come.

But I couldn’t help but notice this weekend that there was also sadness on networks like CNN and MSNBC, as multiple commentators could barely hide their disappointment that the Trump Administration was, to the greatest extent reasonably possible, efficiently handling the aftermath of this storm.

On a more upbeat note, I was also struck by images of heroism and helping hands, not only by first responders, but by multitudes of Texans of all races who were coming to the aid of strangers. Little Dunkirk-type rescues broke out all over the region as people with various kinds of modest watercraft headed not away from the rising water, but toward it, and began using their own initiative to rescue neighbors stranded on rooftops.

I noticed in several videos how many of them had firearms on their hips. It’s a pretty safe bet that the great majority of these folks were part of that basket of people Hillary labeled “deplorable and irredeemable.”

Arpaio Pardoned

After hinting at it earlier last week, President Trump pardoned former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio Friday night. Arpaio led the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department for more than two decades, earning a reputation as “America’s toughest sheriff.”

Arpaio is a controversial figure. He forced inmates to wear pink jumpsuits and sleep in tents. But as an American dedicated to the rule of law, he was increasingly frustrated as successive administrations refused to effectively enforce our immigration laws. Sheriff Joe did what he could to address this travesty.

He was hated for it, and some would argue that he was unfairly prosecuted for it. But Arpaio earned the president’s respect, and Friday evening President Trump intervened.

As I wrote last week, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama pardoned terrorists and traitors. But the GOP establishment’s reaction to Arpaio’s pardon seems to be much more aggressive than its reaction to Obama’s pardon of Puerto Rican terrorists and Bradley “Chelsea” Manning.

I suspect that if voters were asked their opinion, they would prefer pardons of tough sheriffs over traitors and terrorists.

Fascism In Berkeley

The radical left has struck again. Literally. The far left “progressives” of Antifa showed up at a weekend rally in Berkeley, California, — a rally against hate — and started attacking the peaceful gathering.

In a rare moment of journalism, the Washington Post left no doubt that Antifa’s fascist tactics were at fault. Consider these excerpts:

“Their faces hidden behind black bandannas and hoodies, about a 100 anarchists and Antifa . . . barreled into a protest Sunday afternoon in Berkeley’s Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park. Jumping over plastic and concrete barriers, the group melted into a larger crowd of around 2,000 that had marched peacefully throughout the sunny afternoon for a ‘Rally Against Hate’ gathering. Shortly after, violence began to flare.”
According to the Associated Press, 13 people were arrested on charges which included assault with a deadly weapon and obstructing a police officer. Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguin condemned the violence, saying, “Fighting hate with hate does not work and only makes each side more entrenched in their ideological camps.”

Incredibly, it appears that local police were once again ordered to stand down. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, 400 police officers “had control of the scene at the park, stopping anyone who entered at a single checkpoint, where they confiscated anything on a list of banned objects.”

But once the black-clad Antifa “horde” showed up, “the clearly overwhelmed police force allowed hundreds of people to pass barriers and enter the park unchecked.”

Again, I urge the Justice Department to investigate this violent left-wing group that is assaulting American citizens and threatening their constitutional rights. It should also investigate whether left-wing politicians are enabling the violence by instructing police departments to give these thugs a pass.

Kudos To Jim Brown

Here’s a brief follow-up on a story we reported to you Friday. Football legend Jim Brown spoke out strongly regarding the growing protests within the NFL against our flag and the national anthem. He acknowledged that America has issues we need to work through, but said that there are better ways to do it.

According to a report in the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, Brown addressed the players of the Cleveland Browns (his former team) and delivered the same message before Saturday’s game in Tampa, Florida, saying, “Do not disrespect your country, do not disrespect the flag.”

In last Monday night’s game, 12 Browns players took a knee. None did Saturday.

Thank you, Jim Brown!

More Left-wing Insanity

Wednesday afternoon, the ACLU posted a picture of a beautiful little girl in a “free speech” onesie holding an American flag. The picture was captioned, “This is the future that ACLU members want.”

I have no doubt that the progressives at the ACLU made a completely unbiased, race-free decision when they posted that picture. But the backlash was immediate. You see, the little girl was white.

The ACLU, whose mission is to fight mobs in defense of free speech, caved to the online mob and wouldn’t even defend its own speech.

In response to the criticism, it effectively apologized, noting that the group’s Twitter followers had kept it “in check” by reminding the ACLU that “white supremacy is everywhere.”

WHAT?! When did toddlers become symbols of white supremacy? This is a sad example of just how hyper-sensitive the left has become.

If anyone ran an ad of a little black girl, Hispanic girl or Asian girl, and bigots attacked it, saying, “That’s not the future I’m working for,” millions of decent people would be repulsed by such ugly racism. It would make the evening news.

Yet when it happens the other way around, there is nothing but crickets from the so-called “mainstream media” about this shocking example of left-wing racism.

Again, where are the leading progressive figures saying that the ACLU should be ashamed for caving into that kind of bigotry? Where is the public condemnation of the left’s racism?

Speaking Of Hate. . .

Pro-family Christian groups are sick and tired of the left labeling them as so-called “hate groups,” and they are fighting back. This week, D. James Kennedy Ministries filed a lawsuit in federal court against the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) for calling the Christian ministry a “hate group.”

We have reported in the past how the SPLC has also maliciously labeled other Christian groups such as the Alliance Defending Freedom and the Family Research Council as “hate groups.”

Dr. Frank Wright, president of D. James Kennedy Ministries, said, “These false and illegal characterizations have a chilling effect on the free exercise of religion and on religious free speech for all people of faith.”

He is absolutely right. No decent person wants to be thought of as a “hater” or be associated with “haters.”

But the SPLC and intolerant progressive groups like it are working overtime to define as bigotry the deeply held values of millions of Christians. They want to criminalize traditional conservative ideas. They are guilty of religious bigotry, defamation and slander.

The Silent Majority

In these raging cultural debates, the angriest and loudest voices often get the most attention. But what is getting lost is the perspective of the “silent majority.” For example:

  • A recent NPR poll found that 62% of Americans felt that Confederate statues should remain as historical symbols. Only 27% said they should be removed. Blacks in the poll were split 44% to 40%.
  • 88% of voters oppose tearing down statues of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Only 7% support it.
  • We told you recently about one left-wing columnist who wants to “blow up” Mount Rushmore. Well, only 6% of voters think that monument should be “changed or closed.”
  • And when it comes to free speech — a really controversial issue on college campuses — 85% of Americans said that preserving the First Amendment right to free speech is more important than ensuring no one is offended. Only 8% said it was more important to silence offensive speech. Sorry, little snowflakes.

Another issue that made headlines recently was President Trump’s decision to reverse Barack Obama’s policy allowing transgendered individuals to serve in the military. This week, the White House issued guidance to the Pentagon on how President Trump’s new policy was to be enforced.

Now here’s what big media won’t tell you: A study commissioned by the Obama Administration found that deployability was a major problem. But Obama’s Pentagon progressives put political correctness ahead of military readiness and ignored these concerns. President Trump did not.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, “On average, transgender troops seeking basic sex-change operations would be nondeployable for 238 days, or 34 weeks out of a year. The figure amounts to 65 percent of one year.”

    Brown v. Kaepernick

Football legend Jim Brown played in the NFL from 1957 to 1965. Brown had tremendous talent, and was once described as “the greatest pure runner in the history of the NFL.”

He played during an era when legal segregation still existed — before the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Needless to say, Jim Brown has seen tremendous changes in America in his lifetime, changes for the better.

So I was encouraged to hear his recent remarks on the Colin Kaepernick controversy. Here is what this American sports legend had to say:

“I’m going to give you the real deal: I’m an American. I don’t desecrate my flag and my national anthem. I’m not gonna do anything against the flag and national anthem. . . This is my country, and I’ll work out the problems, but I’ll do it in an intelligent manner. . . Colin has to make up his mind whether he’s truly an activist or he’s a football player. Football is commercial. You have owners. You have fans. And you want to honor that if you’re making that kind of money. . .”

    Prayers For Texas

As Hurricane Harvey barrels down on the Texas coast, Carol and I are praying for our many friends in the Lone Star State. We pray that lives would be spared, that the damage would be minimal and that communities would quickly come together to help those in need after the storm passes.

She’s Back!

Hillary Clinton is back in the headlines as excerpts of her new book are being leaked in advance of its release next month. A lot of Democrats in Washington just shake their heads and wish she would go away. Hillary is not the future of the Democrat Party.

I understand how they feel, but who is the future of the left? Is it 75 year-old Vermont socialist Bernie Sanders? Is it 74 year-old Joe Biden? Maybe it’s Elizabeth Warren, aka “Fauxhontas.” Keith Ellison? Is it Black Lives Matter? Antifa?

And if they successfully destroy the Trump/Pence Administration, what exactly is the left’s agenda?

Single-payer socialized healthcare? It’s rapidly becoming a litmus test issue for progressives. But it failed in Vermont. It was rejected in Colorado. And even the progressive crazies in California are unwilling to go there. And it’s that kind of policy that has prevented most European nations from being able to provide a serious national defense.

What about free college? Sounds great. Oregon tried it and is now dramatically scaling back its program.

What about open borders? Only the far-left fringe thinks that’s a good idea. A January survey by the Pew Research Center, not exactly a right-wing think tank, found that:

  • 77% of Americans want stricter policies to prevent visa overstays.
  • 73% want to prevent illegal immigrants from receiving public benefits.
  • And 58% want to increase deportations of illegal immigrants.

Lots of people don’t like President Trump’s style. But many more people don’t like the left’s agenda because it crushes their dreams.

But back to Hillary’s book. A vignette from her new memoir made a lot of news yesterday. She wrote that during one of the presidential debates, Donald Trump invaded her personal space on the stage. (Will she ever stop whining?) Here’s what she wrote:

“It was incredibly uncomfortable. . . Do you stay calm, keep smiling and carry on as if he weren’t repeatedly invading your space? Or do you turn, look him in the eye and say loudly and clearly, ‘Back up, you creep, get away from me.'”
When I read that quote, it sounded familiar. Then I remembered where we heard it before: Several women said the same thing to Bill Clinton!

    NFL Protest

Protestors gathered outside of the NFL’s headquarters yesterday for a pro-Colin Kaepernick rally sponsored by the NAACP. Politicians and celebrities are jumping on the bandwagon. Susan Sarandon tweeted, “I stand with Colin.” (Shouldn’t she be kneeling with Colin?)

One of Kaepernick’s cheerleaders at yesterday’s protest was Linda Sarsour — a perfect example of the modern left. Sarsour is an Israel-hating anti-Semite who urges Muslims not to assimilate to American culture. She is a “feminist” who has threatened violence against a female Muslim reformer.

So it’s not terribly surprising that she runs to make common cause with Kaepernick, who in the middle of a failing football season thought it would be appropriate to take a knee every time the national anthem was played.

This is the new left. What is so sad is seeing an old left group like the NAACP making this its cause celebre.

Black children are dying every weekend in the streets of Chicago at the hands of black gang members. Minority children in virtually every big city are trapped in substandard schools. Historically high percentages of these children are growing up in homes without fathers.

And the NAACP is devoting resources to defending a millionaire malcontent who disdains the country that has given him more money than most families could ever dream of.

Sarsour and Sarandon may stand with Kaepernick. But I will stand with George Foreman, who said:

“I love the United States. They [Kevin Durant and Colin Kaepernick] haven’t been brought up with people who were patriotic. A lot of people died so that they can have that privilege. . . The greatest day of my life was when I put on the colors, representing the United States.”

    Another One

Here we go again. A disturbing phenomenon is emerging from mosques in California. We recently told you about imams in Davis and Riverside who prayed that Allah would destroy Israel and the Jews.

Yet another California imam, this one in Costa Mesa, is making news for his radical beliefs. He says “the Jews” are responsible for ISIS — Israeli intelligence to be exact.

These kinds of conspiracy theories are widespread in the Middle East. Here’s an imam in Turkey blaming ISIS on America. Here’s an imam in Jordan saying that the Barcelona attack was faked by the West, just like 9/11.

And while politically correct Western elites tie themselves into pretzels trying to explain that radical Islamic terrorism has nothing to do with Islam and that the Islamic State really is not Islamic at all, the grand mufti of Egypt refuses to declare ISIS followers to be “unbelievers.”

I trust the grand mufti knows more about Islam than our clueless elites.

But what is being done about these radical mosques right here in America? Where are these imams coming from? Are Governor Jerry Brown or House Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi even remotely interested in asking any questions?

Thankfully, our friends at the Middle East Media Research Institute are doing an excellent job of exposing this extremism. But I would like to know if local law enforcement or the FBI or the Department of Homeland Security got any calls on the day these sermons in Costa Mesa, Davis and Riverside took place.

The President’s Speech

President Trump addressed the nation last night from Fort Myer in Arlington, Virginia. His remarks about winning the war in Afghanistan were measured and his tone was presidential.

Trump has appeared numerous times before military audiences, and the troops are always boisterous in their support. But last night, they clearly had been told that this was a serious, solemn address. And it was.

Not only do reports indicate that the president is considering sending 4,000 to 5,000 more troops to Afghanistan, but Trump began by calling for national unity.

Here are some excerpts of the president’s remarks:

“By following the heroic example of those who fought to preserve our republic, we can find the inspiration our country needs to unify, to heal, and to remain one nation under God. The men and women of our military operate as one team, with one shared mission, and one shared sense of purpose.

“They transcend every line of race, ethnicity, creed, and color to serve together — and sacrifice together — in absolutely perfect cohesion. . . They’re all part of the same family; it’s called the American family. . .

“Loyalty to our nation demands loyalty to one another. Love for America requires love for all of its people. When we open our hearts to patriotism, there is no room for prejudice. . . The young men and women we send to fight our wars abroad deserve to return to a country that is not at war with itself at home. We cannot remain a force for peace in the world if we are not at peace with each other.”
I strongly agree with Laura Ingraham, who observed this morning that Trump needs to give more of those kinds of speeches on a variety of topics, such as why the American people are overtaxed, racial reconciliation and the need to secure our borders. And with Republicans unable to agree on an alternative, even Obamacare offers the president a tremendous opportunity to demonstrate the leadership we saw last night.

On Afghanistan

The president’s critics say that Donald Trump can never admit a mistake. Well, last night he candidly said that before he took office his instincts told him to pull out of Afghanistan. But after sitting in the Oval Office, studying the issue and receiving the advice of his generals, he changed his mind. Rather than withdrawing from Afghanistan, the president said this:

“First, our nation must seek an honorable and enduring outcome worthy of the tremendous sacrifices that have been made. . . The men and women who serve our nation in combat deserve a plan for victory. . .

“A hasty withdrawal would create a vacuum that terrorists, including ISIS and al Qaeda, would instantly fill. . . We cannot repeat in Afghanistan the mistake our leaders made in Iraq.”
There are major differences between what Trump announced last night and the policy Obama pursued. At its peak, Obama had roughly 100,000 men in Afghanistan and 100,000 handcuffs to prevent them from doing what they are trained to do — to fight and to win. Trump will have only a fraction of that force, but he made it clear that they are going after the enemy.

Obama infamously ordered a surge into Afghanistan and also announced the date when the surge would be drawn down. Trump refused to do that, adding that results on the ground would determine when we are finished. He also made it clear that he would not tolerate continued duplicity from Pakistan, which has given terrorists a safe haven.

President Trump said that we will work with India, the world’s largest democracy, toward the goal of India assuming more responsibility for its own “backyard.” And he insisted that our NATO allies contribute more to the war effort.

Perhaps most importantly, the president abandoned the idea that America’s military should be deployed for nation-building, saying, “We are not nation-building again. We are killing terrorists.”

Nation-building is not difficult when there is a Western tradition of self-government, liberty and dissent. But we are not going to turn an Islamic culture with the second-lowest literacy rate into a thriving republic. It is unfair to ask our warriors to do that.

Another Collision

The USS John S. McCain, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, collided Monday with an oil tanker near the Strait of Malacca. The ship suffered “significant damage” and ten sailors are missing. It was the second collision in two months, and the fourth such collision involving a U.S. Navy ship this year.

This disturbing news has spurred a debate over what is causing this spate of collisions. Possible explanations are bad or worse. One is that under Obama’s eight years of political promotions and sensitivity training over seamanship, we have failed our young men and women in the Navy by not giving them adequate training. That’s the bad explanation.

The worse explanation is that the large numbers of hacks and data breaches that repeatedly occurred during the Obama years may have enabled someone — China, Russia, North Korea — to manipulate GPS signals or onboard navigation systems. While the Navy denies this possibility, there are reasons to be concerned. So-called “spoofing” incidents have been detected in the Black Sea.

The Left’s War On Cops

Over the weekend, tens of thousands of left-wing protestors effectively shut down a “free speech” rally in Boston. There certainly was plenty of bigotry on display . . . from the left.

Antifa produced a poster identifying symbols used by the “fascists” allegedly attending the rally. Antifa urged its members to “Learn to identify these symbols and let anyone displaying them know that they are not welcome in our city!”

Among the symbols included in the Antifa poster was the “Thin Blue Line,” which the group identified as a “Pro Police symbol.”

Whether it is the family, the church or the police, the left is attacking the very institutions of society that maintain stability and order. Just like the chant, “Cops and Klan go hand in hand,” this poster amounts to incitement against the men and women of law enforcement.

Antifa and its ilk are not interested in pulling down Confederate monuments. They want to tear down America.

Kudos to Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz who condemned these so-called “progressives.” Dershowitz said that “people on the hard left, who are themselves engaged in violence and also some bigotry of their own” should not get “a pass.”

I agree completely. So I will ask again: Where are the responsible liberal leaders and journalists calling out these radical groups?
