A New Strategy?

As Republicans struggle over the details of reforming Obamacare, President Trump suggested a new strategy. This morning, Trump tweeted, “If Republican Senators are unable to pass what they are working on now, they should immediately REPEAL, and then REPLACE at a later date.”

Of course, left-wing talking heads immediately distorted the president’s suggestion, saying it would violate a campaign pledge not to repeal Obamacare without a replacement. They gave viewers the impression that Republicans were going to leave millions of Americans without healthcare as of next week.

But that’s not at all what the president suggested. In fact, Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) sent a letter to President Trump suggesting this two-step approach.

Noting that 50 out of 52 members of the GOP Senate majority voted to repeal Obamacare in 2015, Sasse wrote that if no agreement is reached when the Senate returns on July 10th, they should simply vote again on the same repeal bill they supported in 2015 with one exception: “We should include a year-long implementation delay to give comfort to Americans currently on ObamaCare that a replacement plan will be enacted before expiration.”

Sasse also asked President Trump to urge Congress to cancel its August recess so that our elected officials could work non-stop to develop a plan by Labor Day.

Sounds like a plan to me!

The left-wing media obsessed all day yesterday over one of the president’s tweets and whether Mika had a facelift. Big news right?

Now let me tell you about the really important news that did happen yesterday.

  • President Trump’s travel ban went into effect.
  • President Trump delivered a tremendous address yesterday at the Department of Energy vowing to make America “energy dominant.” President Trump said, “We’re here today to usher in a new American energy policy — one that unlocks million and millions of jobs and trillions of dollars in wealth.”
  • The administration imposed sanctions against Chinese banks for their dealings with North Korea’s rogue regime.
  • Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly announced that 66,000 illegal immigrants have been arrested since January. More than 70% of them have criminal records. That means the Trump Administration has taken 48,000 criminal aliens off the streets.
  • The House of Representatives passed two major pieces of legislation to crack down on illegal immigration. Kate’s Law passed 257-to-167. One Republican voted no, while 24 Democrats voted yes.

The House also passed a bill cracking down on sanctuary cities on a vote of 228-to-195. Seven Republicans voted no, while three Democrats voted yes.

As I noted yesterday, both bills have strong public support. (Here and here.)

Speaking Of Sanctuary Cities. . .

Here’s an example of just how insane the left has become.

On December 2, 2015, Pedro Figueroa-Zarceno went to a San Francisco police station to recover his stolen car. Authorities quickly discovered that Figueroa-Zarceno was an illegal immigrant with a deportation order from 2005. They called Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and he was detained.

Keep in mind, friends, that Kate Steinle was killed in San Francisco by an illegal immigrant just a few months before. Undoubtedly, the police officers were more concerned with public safety, which is their job, than political correctness.

Figueroa-Zarceno sued, claiming that the officers who called ICE violated his “rights” under San Francisco’s sanctuary city policy. San Francisco’s left-wing politicians agreed. And now taxpayers are going to pay the illegal immigrant (who should have been deported 12 years ago) $190,000.

By the way, according to press reports, Figueroa-Zarceno requires an interpreter. He’s been in the country at least 12 years and still does not speak English? As it turns out, that’s not unusual.

Meanwhile, the city of San Francisco has refused to pay Kate Steinle’s family a dime.

So let’s recap. Because of San Francisco’s left-wing policies, an illegal immigrant who gets detained hits the jackpot, while the family of an American citizen who was murdered by an illegal immigrant gets nothing.

This cultural disconnect, more than anything else, is what cost Hillary Clinton the election.

    Other Headlines

  • “Democrats Despair Over Neil Gorsuch: ‘We’ve Got Another Scalia.'”
  • 57% of likely voters support religious freedom for small business owners. 29% would prosecute them for discrimination.
  • 62% of likely voters support Trump’s proposed five year welfare ban for new immigrants. Only 26% oppose it.
  • Trump’s tax plan is popular too — 61% support “significant” middle class tax cuts.
  • Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly denies grants to Islamist groups supported by the Obama Administration.
  • The Trump/Pence team is tackling voter fraud.
  • Bigoted left-wing college professor gets fired.
  • Another bigoted left-wing college professor gets fired.
  • Arizona law banning taxpayer-subsidized college tuition for illegal immigrants is upheld.
  • Bernie AND Jane Sanders are under FBI investigation.

Trump Demands Border Security

President Donald Trump hosted several families at the White House yesterday. They were there for a special reason, and I guarantee that none of them wanted to be there for that reason.

Sadly, each of these families lost a loved one due to the actions of criminal illegal immigrants. These families have experienced pain and suffering because of the gross negligence of the federal government.

“You lost the people that you love because our government refused to enforce our nation’s immigration laws,” President Trump said. “For years, the pundits, journalists, politicians in Washington refused to hear your voices, but on Election Day 2016, your voices were heard all across the entire world.” The president assured them that their loved ones did not die in vain.

The president announced his support for several pieces of legislation pending in Congress to crack down on illegal immigration and defend our borders. The House is expected to vote on two bills today — Kate’s Law and the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act.

Named after Kate Steinle, a San Francisco woman murdered by an illegal immigrant who had been deported multiple times, Kate’s Law increases penalties for illegal reentry, so that someone like her murderer would have been locked up rather than on the streets.

The second bill, No Sanctuary for Criminals Act, requires cities to fully cooperate with federal immigration officials. It would also allow individuals hurt by criminal illegal immigrants to sue sanctuary cities.

Both bills have strong public support. (Here and here.) Yet progressives in Congress are fighting them. It seems they care more about open borders and protecting illegal immigrants than they do about protecting American citizens.

Failing To Plan. . .

Fox News released a new poll finding that just 27% of voters support the Senate GOP’s plan to overhaul Obamacare, while 54% oppose it. Eighteen percent don’t know what to think. That poll is in line with others showing that Republican efforts to rollback Obamacare are very unpopular.

I suspect half the country could not identify one single thing the GOP legislation does. As it is, there is the House proposal, the Senate proposal and there will be a new Senate plan released tomorrow.

Members of Congress are complaining that even they don’t know what is in it, so how on Earth can it be accurately polled?

Then again, if the GOP plan is going to kill hundreds of thousands of people, gut Medicare and fail to lower premiums, then I would be against it too. Of course, that isn’t what the legislation does. But left-wing talking points are all the American people are hearing right now.

Here is what is really bothering me.

I’m sure you heard the saying, “Failing to plan is planning to fail.” Watching the Republican Party stumbling in its efforts to repeal Obamacare, I can’t help but think that the GOP failed to plan for this day.

House and Senate leaders have had seven years to figure out how they were going to handle this. Why was there not a consensus plan that Republicans could agree on? Why did no one realize the left and its media allies would distort any GOP proposal to repeal Obamacare?

Why haven’t Republican groups raised $50 million to make the case for their plan? Well, perhaps that’s because there isn’t a GOP healthcare plan. “Failing to plan is planning to fail.”

The party has spent millions of dollars to hold several House seats in recent special elections. Those may be Pyrrhic victories.

There won’t be enough money to win vulnerable House and Senates seats next year if the public thinks Republicans have done terrible things to their health care or nothing at all to address the Obamacare disaster.

Kudos To King

One House Republican, Rep. Steve King (R-IA), is doing his best to advance conservative ideas when it comes to healthcare reform. Yesterday, the House passed Rep. King’s tort reform bill.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimated that King’s Protecting Access to Care Act would save more than $50 billion over a ten-year period and would reduce medical malpractice insurance premiums by as much as 30%.

Move On!

The Russian investigation has taken yet another bizarre turn. ABC News is reporting that congressional investigators want to question President Trump’s long-time bodyguard, Keith Schiller.

In addition, new reporting indicates that key intelligence regarding Russia’s meddling came from a questionable foreign source. In fact, the Washington Post wrote, “Because of the source of the material, the NSA was reluctant to view it with high confidence.”

And there are also allegations that the charges against Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn may have resulted from a personal vendetta by Andrew McCabe, a top official at the FBI. By the way, McCabe is also under investigation.

My friends, I don’t doubt that Russia tried to meddle in our election. But that is Barack Obama’s problem, not Donald Trump’s. Barack Obama was president at the time, and his appointees ran every agency charged with confronting the Russians.

And let me remind you of Obama’s approach to Russia.

You may recall that during the 2012 debate, Obama mocked Mitt Romney for suggesting that Russia was our most serious geo-political threat.

He also mocked and downplayed the idea that Russia was a threat to our election. At a December press conference, Obama said:

“This was not some elaborate, complicated espionage scheme. They hacked into some Democratic Party emails. . . routine stuff. . . So in early September when I saw President Putin in China, I felt that the most effective way to ensure that [anything worse] didn’t happen was to talk to him directly and tell him to cut it out. . . And in fact we did not see further tampering of the election process.”
If anyone was colluding with the Russians, it was the man who was so eager to show Putin his “flexibility.”

If this was just “routine stuff” and Putin did “cut it out,” why do we have a special counsel and what is he investigating?

As Democrats used to say, it’s time to move on.

As Senate Republicans struggle to reach a consensus on how best to tackle the quasi-socialist Obamacare regime, Fox & Friends this morning asked the question: What Would Reagan Do?

So let’s take a little trip down memory lane. The year was 1961. Several years prior, the nation had rejected a nationalized health care scheme proposed by President Harry Truman. But liberals in Congress were at it again, and Ronald Reagan was warning the American people.

Here’s a brief excerpt of what Reagan said then:

“One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine. . . The doctor begins to lose freedoms; it’s like telling a lie, and one leads to another. . . pretty soon your son won’t decide when he’s in school, where he will go, or what they will do for a living. He will wait for the government to tell him where he will go to work and what he will do.”
In spite of some popular provisions, Obamacare is a collapsing mess.

You were supposed to be able to keep doctors and insurance plans you liked. That was the “Lie of the Year.” In reality, more and more Americans have fewer and fewer choices.

Obamacare was supposed to lower premiums. It didn’t. They are up 105% since Obamacare took effect.

Yet the GOP can’t agree on Plan B.

Well, Democrats have theirs. Yesterday Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren declared, “President Obama tried to move us forward. . . Now it’s time for the next step. And the next step is single payer.”

Right. Because the VA is such a shining model of success.

Folks, Bernie Sanders’ home state of Vermont tried this. They abandoned it. Why? According to the Boston Globe, “the cost of the program would nearly double the size of the state’s budget in the first year alone.

California considered it. And abandoned it. Why? According to the San Francisco Gate, “The projected cost ($400 billion) far surpasses the annual state budget of $180 billion.”

The Washington Post conceded recently that the Sanders/Warren single-payer healthcare scheme “would have an astonishingly high price tag” of more than $3 trillion a year!

For the record, the Tax Foundation reports that in 2014 U.S. taxpayers paid about $1.4 trillion in individual income taxes. So to achieve what Sanders, Warren and the rest of the left is now demanding, taxes would have to double and the Armed Forces would be non-existent.

America would be like Europe. Rationed health care and unable to defend our borders. But that is the left’s goal.

More Left-Wing Insanity

While we’re on the subject of the left’s failed ideas, the “Fight For $15” is back in the news, and not in a good way. The left has made raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour an article of faith in recent years.

So, the progressives in Seattle decided to give it a go. In 2014, they voted to phase in the increase over a period of years. Any conservative could have predicted the results, which are terrible.

But don’t take my word for it. Here’s how the Washington Post described the analysis of what one MIT economist called a “very credible” study:

“Some employers have not been able to afford the increased minimums. They’ve cut their payrolls, putting off new hiring, reducing hours or letting their workers go. . . The costs to low-wage workers in Seattle outweighed the benefits by a ratio of three to one, according to the study, conducted by a group of economists at the University of Washington who were commissioned by the city. . . On the whole, the study estimates, the average low-wage worker in the city lost $125 a month because of the hike in the minimum.”

Jobs For Jihadis?

What should you do when jihadis fighting for ISIS in Iraq or Syria return to their home countries? Most people would probably say “Arrest and deport them.” But the progressives in Sweden have a very different idea.

It turns out that several returning jihadis have complained that they can’t get jobs because their pictures from the battlefield are all over the Internet. So the Swedish government is giving them a “special status” and new identities. It’s like a witness relocation program for returning terrorists.

Alice Kuhnke, the Swedish Minister for Culture and Democracy, says that the returning ISIS fighters “need to be channeled back into our democratic society.” But Kuhnke admits the government has no clue how many Muslims still cling to their extremist beliefs or whether they left Iraq and Syria because they became “disillusioned” with ISIS.

I doubt they were “disillusioned” with ISIS. They left Sweden to wage jihad. It is more likely that they left Iraq and Syria because they were getting their butts kicked.

Taking these jihadis back is a huge security risk. As Pamela Geller put it, “This is the very definition of civilizational suicide.”

Meanwhile, on the other end of the European continent, migrant relief centers in Italy are on the verge of collapsing as more than 73,000 African migrants have landed on Italy’s shores since the beginning of the year. More than 13,000 arrived just this week.

One Italian media outlet described the exodus as “an invasion that the government and the European Union fail to halt.”

It is hard not to feel some compassion for the migrants, many of whom are fleeing Islamist violence. But there must be limits. There certainly are limits to what Italy can afford. That’s not bigotry. It’s common sense.

Thankfully, we have a president committed to controlling our borders. When you combine a welfare state like ours with a world in which 150 million people want to come to the United States, that is a prescription for breaking the American taxpayer and America. Where is the compassion in that?

BREAKING NEWS: Facing mounting opposition, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell today delayed a planned vote on the Senate’s Obamacare repeal bill. Republican senators are meeting with President Trump at the White House this afternoon to discuss their strategy.

Supremes Attach Strings

Yesterday we told you about President Trump’s big win at the Supreme Court regarding his executive order limiting immigration from jihadi-infested nations. The unanimous decision to allow most of his executive order to take effect was notable given that supposedly learned judges in multiple courtrooms across the country said time and time again that Trump’s order was unconstitutional.

Each time they did so, it was another blow against the president in the court of public opinion. Millions of Americans were led to believe that the new administration had no idea what the Constitution required.

A few legal scholars said that the president was right and that the left-wing judges were wrong. Yesterday, the president was vindicated.

Having said that, the justices attached strings to their decision, allowing most but not all of the order to take effect.

In a separate opinion, my favorite justice, Clarence Thomas, noted the court was creating problems for the administration. Here is what Justice Thomas wrote:

“Today’s compromise will burden executive officials with the task of deciding . . . whether individuals from the six affected nations who wish to enter the United States have a sufficient connection to a person or entity in this country. The compromise also will invite a flood of litigation until this case is finally resolved on the merits, as parties and courts struggle to determine what exactly constitutes a ‘bona fide relationship.'”
Justices Alito and Gorsuch joined Thomas in expressing their full support for the White House’s position.

Once again, the Supreme Court is engaging in legislating instead of adjudicating. It carved out what we hope is only a temporary exception, which appears to suggest that in some circumstances the president’s legal authority to restrict immigrants or refugees may be trumped (no pun intended) by other factors.

In this situation, the court said that if someone wants to enter the country and can demonstrate a connection with an entity in the United States, the president cannot restrict that individual until the court revisits the issue in the fall. There are suggestions that such connections may be relatively minor, such as being accepted to a U.S. college.

As Justice Thomas wrote, this guarantees further litigation, generated by left-wing attorneys who want nothing more than to tie this administration down.

There are rumors that this compromise was another John Roberts “special,” reminiscent of what he did to justify the constitutionality of Obamacare’s individual mandate as a tax. That was disturbing, and so is this.

A 5-to-4 decision upholding the president’s complete power to regulate access to the country would have been better than a unanimous decision suggesting it can be limited. While we celebrate yesterday’s partial victory, we remain frustrated by the court’s continued penchant to legislate.

Ginsburg Should Recuse Herself

When the Supreme Court takes up the broader constitutional issues involved in President Trump’s executive order later this fall, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg should recuse herself.

As you know, the left insisted that Attorney General Jeff Sessions recuse himself from investigating the Trump Administration due to his outspoken support for candidate Trump during last year’s presidential campaign.

Well, Justice Ginsburg was also quite outspoken when it came to candidate Trump.

She called Donald Trump “a faker.” She also said this: “I can’t imagine what the country would be with Donald Trump as our president. . . Now it’s time for us to move to New Zealand.”

Since the election Ginsburg has said, “We’re not experiencing the best of times,” and suggested that she takes hope in the public resistance to President Trump.

I am pleased to report that dozens of House Republicans are demanding Justice Ginsburg recuse herself when the Supreme Court takes up the president’s travel ban. In a letter released yesterday, nearly 60 congressmen warned Ginsburg that her comments demonstrated “personal bias or prejudice” and that her “impartiality might reasonably be questioned.”

Speaking Of Bias. . .

CNN is reeling from yet another fake news scandal. And kudos to our friends at Breitbart and to James O’Keefe for exposing the truth.

Last Thursday, CNN published a report alleging that Anthony Scaramucci, a friend of President Trump, was connected to a Kremlin-controlled bank. The story was completely false. Scaramucci threatened to sue the network, and by Friday CNN had issued a full retraction. There was more fallout last night as three top CNN reporters “resigned.”

What is striking to me is that these reporters were not young journalists fresh out of journalism school and still learning the ropes. They were veterans of CNN’s investigative unit.

One was an executive editor who had been at the network for 16 years. One had ten years of experience and was a Pulitzer Prize winner. Another had 30 years of reporting experience. But in their desire to smear President Trump they lost all sight of journalistic standards and decency.

Meanwhile, Project Veritas captured a 15-year CNN producer admitting that the Russia investigation is “mostly bullsh*t.”

Fortunately, the media’s efforts appear to be backfiring. A new poll finds that 54% of Americans believe the deep state is leaking classified information to damage President Trump and reverse the results of the election. That is the real scandal we should all be outraged by.

Sources Of Anti-Semitism

For some time now I have been sounding the alarm against rising anti-Semitism in America. I have urged elected officials to consider the relationship of increased immigration to rising anti-Semitism, and I have warned of the hostility toward Jews that is growing on the progressive left.

While the media often portray anti-Semitism as a phenomenon of the right, a new report from the University Of Oslo Center for Research on Extremism suggests something very different. The researchers examined nearly three hundred anti-Semitic attacks in England, France, Germany and Sweden. Here’s what they discovered:

  • 60% of anti-Semitic attacks were committed by those expressing radical Islamic views.
  • 23% of anti-Semitic attacks were committed by those expressing left-wing views.
  • Only 9% of anti-Semitic attacks were committed by those expressing right-wing views.

Clearly, the vast majority of anti-Semitism in Europe is coming from the hatred of radical Islamists.

A recent report from Austria found that nearly half of newly-arrived Muslim migrants held anti-Semitic views. It would be foolish to believe that Muslims coming to America are any different.

But the left is a far greater source of anti-Semitism than the right. That is a big reason why many British Jews have abandoned the liberal Labour Party.

A Good Day

It was a good day — and a big day — at the Supreme Court. Religious liberty and the Trump Administration were big winners. Here is a brief rundown of the action this morning.

  • The Supreme Court struck down a Missouri law — and similar laws in more than 30 states — that barred a church from receiving public funds even though the state issued grants to other non-profit and secular groups for the same purpose. In this case, the grant involved upgrading safety features on a church’s playground.

In writing for the 7-to-2 majority, Chief Justice John Roberts declared, “The exclusion of Trinity Lutheran from a public benefit for which it is otherwise qualified, solely because it is a church, is odious to our Constitution . . . and cannot stand.” Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor dissented in the case.

Many pundits have noted that this case was about much more than just rubberizing playgrounds. An adverse decision would have effectively ended the debate over vouchers or tax credits to religious schools in educational choice programs.

  • The Supreme Court delivered a big win for the Trump Administration by largely agreeing to lift the injunctions against the president’s so-called “travel ban” involving six Muslim nations. Left-wing judges had blocked the administration from enforcing the president’s national security executive order, but the justices declared that the law was clear.

While the justices did leave some wiggle room for those who could claim “a bona fide relationship” to the country and “legitimate concrete hardships,” they ruled that “When it comes to refugees who lack [a strong connection] to the United States . . . the balance tips in favor of the Government’s compelling need to provide for the Nation’s security.”

President Trump hailed the ruling as a “clear victory for our national security.”

The court ordered oral arguments in the travel ban case to be scheduled early in its next term, but the mere fact that high court lifted the injunctions is a very strong signal that President Trump is likely to prevail.

  • The court also announced that it would hear a challenge by Jack Phillips, a baker who claims the state of Colorado violated his religious liberty by demanding that he make cakes for same-sex weddings. Commentators said the decision to take this case was intriguing given that the court had refused to hear a similar case brought by a New Mexico photographer.
  • These early rulings also tell us a lot about Justice Neil Gorsuch who replaced Justice Antonin Scalia. It was noted this morning on one highly respected legal blog that Justice Gorsuch has so far aligned more with Justice Clarence Thomas than any other member of the court, putting him perhaps to the right of Justice Samuel Alito.
  • But perhaps the most anticipated question of the day remains unanswered. Will Justice Anthony Kennedy, who turns 81 next month, retire? He made no statement regarding his plans this morning, but that is not unusual. Were Kennedy to step down in the days ahead, President Trump would have a tremendous opportunity to cement a conservative majority on the high court for years to come.

However, I do worry about the left’s reaction, given the current political atmosphere, should Kennedy step down. Surprisingly, the justices are afforded relatively little security protection once outside of the Supreme Court building.

    Not So Peaceful

The Islamic holy month of Ramadan is over. According to one analysis, there were 160 terror attacks in nearly 30 countries during Ramadan, which resulted in 1,627 deaths — almost four times as many deaths as last year.

Clearly, the “religion of peace” has a big problem with violence.

Do Presbyterians set off bombs at Easter? Do Catholics celebrate Christmas with mass murder? Do Jews blow themselves up on Yom Kippur? No, they do not.

Of course, these are preliminary numbers. There is always the possibility that peacekeepers may come across some mass grave where Islamic supremacism is on the march and we may have to revise the toll upward. And these numbers don’t account for the millions of Christians and other religious minorities who because of this carnage went to church in fear and slept nervously every night.

    Speaking Of Ramadan. . .

President Trump did not host an Iftar dinner celebrating Ramadan at the White House this weekend. And the mainstream media, led by the Washington Post, went nuts, suggesting he broke a tradition that dated all the way back to Thomas Jefferson.

To call that “fake news” would be an insult to fake news. It is simply a lie. The Washington Examiner got its facts right with this headline: “White House Passes On Hosting Ramadan Dinner For First Time In 20 Years.”

The White House Iftar dinner dates back to Bill Clinton. The reference to Jefferson simply refers to a dinner he held with the ambassador from Tunisia. Jefferson merely accommodated the ambassador by moving the dinner until after sundown because the dinner was being held during Ramadan.

But in no way was the purpose of that dinner to honor Islam or recognize Ramadan. Moreover, there are no recorded examples of Iftar dinners being held at the White House until 1996. I have no idea why George W. Bush felt compelled to continue Clinton’s practice after 9/11.

    Pride Weekend?

Gay pride parades were held throughout the country this weekend. In one of the great cities of America that did so much to inspire the country in the aftermath of 9/11, we witnessed Bradley Manning (now named Chelsea thanks to taxpayer-funded surgery) atop the ACLU’s New York City float, surrounded by signs that read “Resist.”

So a traitor, pardoned by Barack Obama in one of his last insults to the American spirit, was celebrated as a guest of honor. Where’s the pride in that?

Meanwhile in Chicago, Jews were kicked out of the Chicago Dyke March because their pride flags included the Star of David. According to organizers, the Chicago Dyke March was exclusively “pro-Palestinian” and “anti-Zionist.” How’s that for “tolerance”?

Whether it’s Black Lives Matter accusing Israel of “genocide” or the Chicago Dyke March declaring itself “anti-Zionist,” one thing is clear — there is growing anti-Semitism on the left.

The Insane Left

California yesterday added Texas, Alabama, Kentucky and South Dakota to its growing list of states that public employees cannot travel to on official business. Celebrations immediately broke out in Texas, Alabama, Kentucky and South Dakota. (Just kidding.) Kansas, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee are already being boycotted by California bureaucrats.

What is this boycott about?

In a variety of ways, these states are safeguarding the rights of religious individuals and organizations to follow their deeply held beliefs. And the intolerant progressives who run California just can’t tolerate it.

For example, in these states a Catholic charity could not be forced to provide abortion coverage to its employees. In contrast, California is forcing pregnancy resource centers to promote abortion. California also objects to states requiring girls to use the girls’ bathroom and requiring boys to use the boys’ bathroom. California thinks this is a violation of human rights.

Just a few weeks ago, California Gov. Jerry Brown (affectionately known as Gov. Moonbeam) strengthened his progressive credentials by hopping on a jet and traveling to Beijing to make a separate climate deal with China, the world’s biggest polluter.

China is a country that does not recognize religious freedom under any circumstance that conflicts with communist rule. It imprisons dissidents. It monitors and raids Christian churches. It is threatening its smaller and weaker neighbors. For decades, China forcibly aborted women who dared to have a second child. It suppresses free speech. And China isn’t exactly “gay friendly” either.

How insane is the progressive left in America? It looks at China and Texas and declares Texas to be the human rights violator.

McConnell vs. Obamacare

Senate Republicans unveiled their version of an Obamacare reform bill yesterday. Four conservatives — Sens. Cruz, Johnson, Lee and Paul — immediately voiced misgivings, while some moderates also expressed concerns.

Since one Senate Democrat won’t help save the country from this failing disaster, Majority Leader McConnell cannot afford to lose more than two GOP senators. So the GOP’s challenge is to work very hard in the days ahead to come up with something that can pass.

It also needs to advance tax reform. If the party fails on both issues, it will suffer terrible consequences in 2018 — and it won’t be Donald Trump’s fault.

I urge our friends on the Hill: Do not go on an August recess until you get something done on either Obamacare or tax reform.

In most of America, a boss will say to his employees, “I know you have a vacation coming, but you’re not leaving until your work is finished.” Well, your boss is the American people. And from what I can tell, their mood is, “Don’t go on vacation until your job in D.C. is done!”

That Didn’t Take Long

I suspect all of us felt a little tinge of hope when we saw the picture of Republican and Democrat congressmen kneeling in prayer on the baseball field the day after a deranged leftist nearly killed House Majority Whip Steve Scalise.

While I think most of those kneeling were genuine in demonstrating some shared humanity, it is painfully clear that the ascendant progressive left-wing of the Democrat Party will not pause for a second in its vicious attacks on anything conservative.

For example, the Nebraska Democrat Party recently experienced a hostile progressive takeover. This week, a party official was fired after audio emerged in which he said of Rep. Scalise’s shooting, “I’m glad he got shot. . . I wish he was f***ing dead.” Another Nebraska Democrat official came under fire last week for her comments about the shooting.

Back in Washington, Senator Elizabeth Warren, whom millions of progressives see as their hope for the future, used this rhetoric to describe Senator McConnell’s Obamacare bill: “I’ve read the Republican ‘health care’ bill. This is blood money. They’re paying for tax cuts with American lives.”

When progressives constantly suggest that conservatives are going to push grandmothers off of cliffs, that they are Nazis and they are causing people to die, it shouldn’t come as a surprise when deranged leftists conclude that they are doing something noble by killing Republicans. And there are a lot of deranged leftists out there.

Of course, the media and the Hollywood left did not even go through the charade of kneeling in prayer. Yesterday, Elise Jordan, a former Bush aide and current MSNBC commentator, compared President Trump to a “suicide bomber.”

Actor Johnny Depp seemed to be high on something when he asked, “When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?” Depp’s reference, by the way, was to the assassination of the country’s first Republican president, Abraham Lincoln. John Wilkes Booth was an actor.

If the left continues this rhetorical violence while groups like Antifa continue their actual violence, there will be dark days ahead for our beloved country.

Russia Hacking Is Obama’s Scandal

Jeh Johnson, former secretary of Homeland Security, testified yesterday before the House Intelligence Committee. Thanks to questioning by Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), we can add Johnson’s name to the long list of former Obama Administration officials and Democrat senators who have conceded that there is no evidence Russia altered any votes during the election and zero evidence of collusion between the president, his campaign and Russia.

Kellyanne Conway recently said that the left is suffering from a “Russian concussion.” They are obsessed with the desire to reverse the results of the election, an election they thought they had in the bag. They just forgot to ask the American voter.

By the way, Americans do not appreciate the left’s scorched-earth tactics against the Trump Administration. A February Rasmussen poll found that 63% of voters felt it was better for the country if Democrats worked with President Trump, rather than against him at every opportunity. Only 29% felt it was better for Democrats to oppose Trump 24/7.

Johnson’s testimony yesterday reminded me of something that Republicans should have been emphasizing from the beginning. As we all know, there is significant evidence that Russia was trying to cause mischief in the elections, the “crime of the century” if you believe the left.

Who was the president when this was happening? That was Barack Obama, not Donald Trump.

Who was leading the Department of Homeland Security when this happened? That would be Mr. Johnson, Obama’s appointee.

Who led the Justice Department and the FBI at the time? That would be Loretta Lynch and James Comey, both Obama appointees.

Who was the head of the CIA? John Brennan, also an Obama appointee.

There is a scandal here. Russia tried to intervene in our election to cause discord, and the people on watch at the time were Barack Obama and his appointees.

When Democrats and their media allies huff and puff about how terrible Russia’s meddling was, they ought be asking, “Where was Obama when all this was happening?”

Yesterday news broke that Russian hackers attempted to infiltrate the election systems of at least 21 states. Yet, Connie Lawson, President-Elect of the National Association of Secretaries of State, told senators that no one in the Obama Administration ever warned state elections officials.

Once again, we see the incompetence of the people who governed us the previous eight years. Yet, somehow it is all Donald Trump’s fault.

Not surprisingly, the president expressed his frustration with this fake news narrative, tweeting this morning: “By the way, if Russia was working so hard on the 2016 Election, it all took place during the Obama Admin. Why didn’t they stop them?”

Another Bombshell

We already knew that the Democrat National Committee was hacked but refused to allow the FBI to examine its computer network to determine who was behind the cyberattack. We learned from Jeh Johnson yesterday that the DNC also rejected offers of help from Homeland Security when it tried to determine exactly what had happened.

“I pressed my staff to know whether DHS was sufficiently proactive, and on the scene helping the DNC identify the intruders and patch vulnerabilities,” Johnson told members of the House Intelligence Committee. “The answer . . . was not reassuring. . . the DNC did not feel it needed DHS’s assistance at that time.”

So the leftists running the Democrat National Committee wouldn’t allow the leftists running the Department of Homeland Security to investigate the alleged “crime of the century”?

A lot of eyebrows were raised by that statement.

During an interview with Fox News, Rep. Gowdy, a former prosecutor, was asked why the DNC refused to cooperate with the FBI and Homeland Security. Gowdy responded:

“Let me hazard a wild guess: That there may be something else on that server they didn’t want law enforcement to see? That is where you start. . . I have dealt in the past with victims that would not cooperate with investigations. Typically, the reason is, there is something else you don’t want law enforcement to see.”
Here is the question that every decent journalist and newspaper editorial board should be asking today: What was the DNC hiding from the FBI and the Democrats who ran the Obama Administration?

Trump On The Stump

The left should be very afraid. If Donald Trump is ever able to get up off the mat from the non-stop pummeling by the media and fake news distractions, he could fundamentally transform the political landscape. The president delivered an incredible speech in Iowa yesterday. Much of what he said would enjoy overwhelmingly support with the American public, if they knew about his remarks.

Specifically, the president yesterday called for immigration reform that ensures new immigrants “must be able to support themselves financially and should not use welfare for a period of at least five years.”

Does the left really want to have that fight? We should welcome that fight!

By the way, the left is seriously divided on the issue of immigration.

When you combine a welfare state like ours with a world in which 150 million people want to come to the United States, that is a prescription for breaking the American taxpayer and America. Where is the compassion in that?

Unfortunately, the president’s remarks were interrupted by demonstrators, and their timing demonstrated the disgusting extremism of the left. Several minutes into his speech, the president said, “I’d like to also take this moment to send our thoughts and prayers to our courageous friend Steve Scalise.”

Incredibly, that was the moment left-wing demonstrators chose to interrupt Trump’s remarks. The crowd responded with chants of “USA! USA! USA!”

Why It Matters

Yesterday I wrote about the importance of the language and rhetoric we use regarding radical Islamic terrorism and how it impacts public policy. So kudos to Bret Baier at Fox News.

Yesterday, as he was reporting on the Islamic supremacist attack in Flint, Michigan, Baier said that the terrorist was yelling, “Allahu Akbar!” He then translated the phrase for viewers and avoided the error that virtually every commentator makes.

Baier noted that the meaning of the phrase is “Allah is the greatest.” Most commentators say, “God is great,” which most Americans would agree with. But that wrong translation fails to inform.

“Allah is the greatest” is the war cry Islamists have used for centuries as they conquered infidels and forced them into submission. It is the mantra of Islamic supremacists and it is meant to assert that Islam is the only true faith.

The attacker also said, “You are all going to die.” In other words, we must submit to Islam or, as infidels, we will be murdered.
