Pass Tax Reform Now

The economy is stalling. According to the Commerce Department’s report, first quarter economic growth fell to just 0.7%. It should be noted that economic growth has been slowing since the 3rd quarter of 2016. These numbers make one thing very clear: We need tax reform now!

We’ve had seven years of sluggish economic activity. As I noted yesterday, Obama never had 3% economic growth in any year during his two terms in office. The economy struggled for the past eight years, so it’s not surprising that it continues to struggle now. We need to stimulate the economy and President Trump’s Kennedy/Reagan-style tax reform will jumpstart the economy.

More money in the hands of consumers will boost spending. More money in the hands of job creators will boost hiring.

If the left doesn’t like President Trump’s plan, what is their plan? What is it that Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi are suggesting we do to grow the economy? They flooded the markets with cheap money for the past eight years. That hasn’t worked. Meanwhile, seniors are getting slammed because they are getting next to nothing on their savings.

Republicans in Congress, who appear to be getting weak knees, need to understand that President Trump’s policies are much better than what we had for the past eight years and would have had under President Hillary Clinton. They need to step up and prove to small business owners and struggling families that they can deliver.

Obama Loves George Washington

Barack Obama didn’t say much about the Founding Fathers when he was president. He did little to ensure that our children learned what incredible leaders they were, how much they risked and sacrificed to create a nation dedicated to freedom and liberty — something unique in human history.

But he does seem to have a new-found appreciation for George Washington. In fact, Obama requested 400,000 portraits of our first president in the form of $400,000 for a speech to a Wall Street investment firm. I’m kidding, of course. I’m sure the former president took his fee in the form of a check or wire transfer. But you get the point.

As a reminder, this is the same guy who told CBS News in 2009, “I did not run for office to be helping out a bunch of fat cat bankers on Wall Street.” This is the same guy who embraced the radicals of Occupy Wall Street.

Elizabeth Warren says she is troubled by Obama’s cashing in. This is the same woman who railed against the real estate and banking industries after making big bucks herself flipping houses. Maybe she should scold Bernie Sanders for his three houses.

Speaking of Bernie, he’s troubled by Obama’s coziness with Wall Street too.

It’s amazing how Obama, Warren and Sanders believe in socialism for you, but they love capitalism for themselves!

Speaking Of Troubled. . .

The former president is really having a rough time right now. He seems to be upsetting one left-wing special interest group after another.

According to a new book by Pulitzer Prize-winning author David Garrow, Barack Obama allegedly “considered gayness” in his early adult years. But in a letter to his “first intimate girlfriend,” Obama eventually decided “that a same-sex relationship would be less challenging and demanding than developing one with the opposite sex.”

After being told over and over again that people are “born that way,” I suspect some on the left will be offended by Obama’s “choice.”

Clinton In Trouble Too?

The Daily Caller reports that Rep. Lamar Smith, chairman of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, has referred Treve Suazo, CEO of Platte River Networks, to the Justice Department for prosecution. You may recall that Platte River Networks is the company that managed Hillary Clinton’s private email server.

According to Rep. Smith, Suazo has refused to comply with two subpoenas from the committee and should be charged with obstruction of justice and making false statements. What exactly is Mr. Suazo trying to hide at this point?

“With a new administration in place, I am hopeful that the Department of Justice will appropriately respond to the referral. We cannot allow companies with valuable information to stonewall us in our oversight efforts,” Chairman Smith said.

Standing For Life

Tonight I have the honor of speaking at the 44th annual Celebration of Life Banquet, hosted by my friends at Right to Life of Louisville in my home state of Kentucky.

Restoring the right to life continues to be the premier moral issue confronting the country. It will be hard to make America great again as long as we are destroying nearly one million innocent babies a year. To end abortion on demand, we need a few more Supreme Court appointments, and President Trump may well get that chance!

We also need to make firm decisions regarding taxpayer funding of abortion. This Congress and this president have taken some good first steps, beginning with reinstating Ronald Reagan’s policy against funding abortions overseas and overturning Barack Obama’s order mandating state funding of Planned Parenthood.

So long as God gives me breath, I will continue speaking out in defense of the most innocent and voiceless victims in our society today — our unborn children.

Your continued support is essential to helping us elect more pro-family, pro-life conservatives to public office!

Democrats Worried Now?

It was very difficult watching the evening news last night. Left-wing reporters and big spending politicians were having nervous breakdowns over the impact of President Trump’s tax reform plan on the budget deficit.

It’s one thing coming from deficit hawks in the GOP. At least they are consistent in fighting against excessive spending. But to hear those like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren expressing shock over growing deficits was too much.

Progressive politicians spent the past eight years helping Barack Obama pile up more debt than any president in history. They have no credibility to complain about the deficit now.

And what about those on the right concerned about the deficit? While I am far more sympathetic to their arguments, the deficit hawks in the GOP should wake up to the fact that big media and the big spenders are simply trying to blowup tax reform. Period. That is their sole objective and they will use any argument they can.

If they succeed, the deficit hawks in the GOP will likely find themselves in the minority in the next Congress with the big spenders in control. If the Republican Congress fails to enact tax reform or pass significant tax cuts AFTER floundering on Obamacare, conservative voters may take a pass on the 2018 elections.

The huge deficits that were run up in the Obama years happened at the same time we were gutting national defense. They were deficits that pushed the progressive agenda — transferring wealth from people who create it to people who vote for the left. Not surprisingly, Obama earned the dubious distinction of being the first two-term president without a single year of 3% economic growth.

The fact is you can’t cut or tax your way out of these deficits. Certainly there are things that can be cut and our system could be more efficient. But the best way to solve the deficit problem is to get our economy growing again. President Trump’s proposal has a decent chance of making that happen.

Absurd Criticism

An immediate and oft-repeated criticism of Trump’s tax reform plan was that it lacked details. That is absurd.

Several times during his briefing yesterday, Treasury Secretary Mnuchin stressed that they were outlining “core principles.” The White House is not responsible for writing legislation. Congress writes legislation and that’s where the details will be hammered out.

Some have suggested that Trump’s plan to lower corporate taxes to 15% tax is a non-starter, so why bother? They should understand that the president sets the tone of the debate. He is telling his party in Congress and the American people what it is he wants to sign. What he is ultimately able to get passed may well be different.

It’s the art of the deal. Yesterday’s presentation of core principles was the opening bid in the negotiating process. And if the left really doesn’t like it, let’s see their plan.

Israel Victory Caucus

I had the pleasure this morning of speaking on Capitol Hill to the inaugural meeting of the Congressional Israel Victory Caucus (CIVC). The meeting was sponsored by Dr. Daniel Pipes of the Middle East Forum, who played a significant role in encouraging the formation of the caucus.

CIVC was started by Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and Rep. Bill Johnson (R-OH) and it is based on a simple concept: Decades of diplomacy based on moral equivalency have failed. As Rep. DeSantis put it, “American policy must ensure that Israel emerges victorious against those who deny or threaten her existence.”

The reality is that one side of this dispute is never going to be satisfied with any concession because it refuses to concede that the other side has a right to exist. Rep. DeSantis and Rep. Johnson understand that building activity in East Jerusalem or so-called “settlements” in Judea and Samaria can’t possibly be the impediment to peace because the Palestinians see all of Israel as an illegitimate settlement. That is the impediment to peace.

CIVC is built on the truism that if you see a conflict between barbarism and civilization, you should do everything you can to ensure that civilization wins. That means you should support Israel and hope for its victory instead of lecturing Israel on what it must give up.

Alas, the progressive ladies of Code Pink showed up today taking the side of the barbarians. Thankfully, they were quickly removed by the professional officers of the Capitol Hill Police Department.

Fascism Prevails In Portland

An annual parade in Portland, Oregon, has been cancelled after progressives threatened to physically attack some of the marchers, specifically members of the Multnomah County Republican Party.

After receiving an email which read, “You have seen how much power we have downtown and that the police cannot stop us. . . so please consider your decision wisely,” parade organizers felt they had no choice but to cancel the parade.

Once again the progressive fascists have prevailed in denying innocent Americans their First Amendment rights.

THIS MUST STOP!

I hope Portland police and the FBI are investigating this threat. Those responsible should be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible. It is time the government brought the RICO statutes to bear against this violent left-wing mob.

Isn’t it striking just how much today’s progressives are like the racist Democrats of the past? They wear masks like the KKK.

They are the descendants of Orval Faubus, who stood in the schoolhouse door blocking young black children. Today’s progressives stand in the university door blocking conservative speakers.

They use threats of violence and intimidation. Just like Bull Connor.

The old segregationists wouldn’t let a preacher like Martin Luther King, Jr., go into schools. Today’s progressives don’t want preachers in the schools or the public square.

It’s no wonder the left is so obsessed with fundamentally transforming America. It has no clue what America is.

The Patriotism Gap

Political pundits identify several fault lines when attempting to describe the political and cultural divisions in America today based on sex, race, age, political ideology, geography, and more.

But another fault line has emerged between those who feel an instinctive love of country and those whose feelings toward their county depend on which way the political winds are blowing. This patriotism gap is getting far less attention than it deserves.

Robed Radicals

Here we go again. Another radical leftist masquerading as a judge handed down an utterly absurd ruling protecting sanctuary cities. Late yesterday, U.S. District Judge William Orrick, III, based in San Francisco, blocked enforcement of President Donald Trump’s executive order banning federal funding to those jurisdictions that refuse to enforce federal law on immigration.

President Trump responded to the ruling by tweeting this morning, “See you in the Supreme Court!”

Don’t be fooled even for a second into thinking that there must be something wrong with Trump’s order against sanctuary cities just because a judge says so. Here’s all you need to know about this “so-called judge.” Orrick is a major progressive fundraiser who raised at least $200,000 for Barack Obama.

He was also the judge who issued an injunction against the Center for Medical Progress, blocking the group from releasing more damaging videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s practice of trafficking in baby body parts.

The idea that Orrick is a constitutional scholar beyond critique is ludicrous. And when a far-left hack in a black robe does something absurd, Republicans in Congress should not be afraid of calling him out for it.

Is it any coincidence that judges appointed by conservatives believe the Second Amendment gives you the right to own a gun for self-defense while judges appointed by liberals do not believe that? It is the same Constitution, the same words, my friends.

Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell should introduce legislation in the House and the Senate TODAY forcing every politician on the record for or against sanctuary cities. This is not a tough call — 80% of voters oppose sanctuary cities.

Now let’s make sure voters know where their elected officials stand when it comes to ignoring the law to protect illegal immigrants, thus putting legal citizens of all races in those cities in danger.

A final point: Most of the media covering this decision have missed a key detail. While Judge Orrick is not allowing President Trump to go as far as he would like, the ruling does not prevent the Justice Department from denying funding for certain programs which require compliance with federal law.

The Washington Times reports that this “clears the path for Attorney General Sessions to strip hundreds of millions of dollars” from sanctuary cities. And the Trump/Sessions Justice Department declared yesterday that it will enforce compliance or cut off those funds to sanctuary cities.

Trump’s Tax Plan

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin outlined today what he described as “the biggest tax cut and the largest tax reform in the history of our country.” Here are basic details of President Trump’s tax reform plan:

  • Corporate and small business tax rates would be slashed from 35% to 15%.
  • Individuals would see lower tax rates and the number of brackets would be reduced from seven to three — 10%, 25% and 35%.
  • Individuals would also benefit from a doubling of the standard deduction, meaning couples would see their taxable income reduced by $24,000.
  • The alternative minimum tax and the death tax would be repealed.
  • All deductions, except for mortgage interest and charitable donations, would be eliminated.

The left is already in full-throated attack mode. In the days and weeks ahead, you’re going to hear a lot about tax cuts for the rich and the deficit. Let me briefly address these arguments.

First, any decrease in the marginal tax rate will be attacked as “a tax cut for the rich.” There is an obvious reason for this — they are paying more in taxes. According to the Wall Street Journal, the top 1% of earners pay nearly 46% of all income taxes collected by the Treasury. The top 20% of earners pay 84% of all taxes.

Because so much of the taxes paid to the Treasury is paid by those people, the left will always attack any across-the-board cut as a “tax cut for the rich.” But as I have argued before, the problem in America is not that the rich earn too much. The problem is that there aren’t enough of them to pay for all the government the left wants.

For those still “feeling the Bern,” watch this video.

Second, the left will claim that you can’t cut taxes unless the plan is “revenue neutral,” meaning that it does not add to the deficit. Keep in mind that this is coming from the people who just doubled the national debt in the last eight years. Now they are attempting to sound like fiscal conservatives.

The problem is that the government has never accurately “scored” or assigned an accurate figure to the economic growth that results from allowing people to keep more of their own money. The left viciously attacked Ronald Reagan’s tax cuts, but the economy boomed under Reagan and revenues grew. John F. Kennedy also cut taxes to spur a weak economy.

Sadly, some Republicans, who had a Scrooge-like devotion to high taxes, joined the attack on Reagan’s tax reform plan. It would not surprise me if certain Republicans join the left’s attack against Trump’s tax reform plan.

This will be a huge battle. It is unlikely that even one Senate Democrat will vote to cut your taxes. So if a handful of RINOs break ranks, like they did with Obamacare, they may have to get used to life in the minority again after the 2018 elections.

    Breakthrough?

Today, the House Freedom Caucus, which represents dozens of conservative House members, officially endorsed an Obamacare reform measure backed by the White House and the GOP leadership.

While frustrated that the legislation does not do all they wanted, the Freedom Caucus said, “We are prepared to support it to keep our promise to the American people to lower healthcare costs. . . Our work will continue until we fully repeal Obamacare.”

It remains to be seen, however, whether a sufficient number of GOP moderates in the House are prepared to back the amended plan.

By the way, the United Nations warned the Trump Administration in a February 2nd letter that the repeal of Obamacare may violate international law. It seems the Trump White House ignored the U.N.

Obama: Iran’s Washington Lobbyist

Months ago, I argued that the Iranian nuclear deal was so bad that it was hard to see how Barack Obama was acting as anything other than a lobbyist for the Islamic Republic. Tehran got virtually everything it demanded. Time and again, the U.S. constantly gave in to Iranian demands for more concessions.

The deal was so bad that Obama plotted to avoid the Constitution’s treaty approval process because he knew it would never pass muster with the people’s representatives.

The deal was so bad that Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes even admitted to lying about it in order to deceive the public.

Not surprisingly, we are still learning just how bad this deal is and how much we were lied to by the Obama Administration.

What is surprising is the source of the latest revelations — Politico, a reliably liberal publication. Many Washington conservatives are shocked that Politico “committed an act of journalism.”

Sarcasm aside, we are now learning that there was another “hidden giveaway” involved in the deal. Politico reports that the Obama White House “derailed its own much-touted National Counterproliferation Initiative at a time when it was making unprecedented headway in thwarting Iran’s proliferation networks.”

How so? Obama freed several Iranians who were intimately involved in Tehran’s illegal weapons trade.

When Obama made the announcement, as part of a hostage swap, he again lied to the American people. On January 17, 2016, Obama said that he was releasing seven Iranians as part of a “one-time, humanitarian gesture.” He added, “These individuals were not charged with terrorism or any violent offenses.” He added that they were “civilians.”

Here are the facts from Politico’s investigation:

  • Three allegedly were part of an illegal procurement network supplying Iran with U.S.-made microelectronics with applications in surface-to-air and cruise missiles.
  • One was serving an eight-year sentence for conspiring to supply Iran with satellite technology and hardware.
  • In addition, the Justice Department dropped charges and international arrest warrants against 14 other men.
  • Three sought to lease Boeing aircraft for an Iranian airline that had supported Hezbollah.
  • A fourth was charged with conspiring to buy thousands of assault rifles for Iran.
  • A fifth was part of a procurement network that provided Iran with components for an especially deadly type of IED known to have killed hundreds of American troops in Iraq.

Politico writes that federal prosecutors and investigators “were shocked and angry.” One former federal law enforcement supervisor said, “They didn’t just dismiss a bunch of innocent business guys.”

But there was more. The Obama Administration sabotaged active investigations. “Justice and State Department officials denied or delayed requests from prosecutors and agents to lure some key Iranian fugitives to friendly countries so they could be arrested,” Politico writes.

A weapons proliferation expert added, “This is a scandal. The cases bear all the hallmarks of exactly the kinds of national security threats we’re still going after. It’s stunning and hard to understand. . .”

Thankfully, President Trump has ordered his national security team to reevaluate the Iranian nuclear deal. In the meantime, the White House should identify and fire any Obama officials involved in this scandal.

    Another Nuclear Nightmare

There are a lot of big issues being considered in Washington right now. But one of the biggest and most unpredictable is on Donald Trump’s plate because the last several presidents were so short-sighted that they allowed North Korea to turn into a nuclear nightmare.

Some people have observed that top administration officials have gone all over the world in recent weeks. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was in Moscow recently. Secretary of Defense Mattis was in Israel. Vice President Mike Pence was in Asia. Were they delivering private messages about future action on North Korea?

Yesterday, President Trump hosted representatives of the U.N. Security Council at the White House. He told them he was disappointed with the U.N.’s failures and that “it’s time to solve the problem” of North Korea’s nuclear ambitions.

News broke late yesterday that there will be a meeting at the White House tomorrow with all 100 senators during which top administration officials will brief them about the threats posed by the Stalinist North Korean regime.

While his predecessors have passed the buck on North Korea, Donald Trump seems determined to deal with this menace.

    Never Again

President Donald Trump delivered a speech this morning commemorating Holocaust Remembrance Day at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. Below are excerpts of his remarks.

“The State of Israel is an eternal monument to the undying strength of the Jewish people. The fervent dream that burned in the hearts of the oppressed is now filled with the breath of life, and the Star of David waves atop a great nation arisen from the desert.

“To those in the audience who have served America in uniform, our country eternally thanks you. We are proud and grateful to be joined today by veterans of the Second World War who liberated survivors from the camps. Your sacrifice helped save freedom for the world — for the entire world. . .

“The survivors in this hall, through their testimony, fulfill the righteous duty to never forget, and engrave into the world’s memory the Nazi genocide of the Jewish people. You witnessed evil, and what you saw is beyond description, beyond any description. . . The Nazis massacred 6 million Jews. Two out of every three Jews in Europe were murdered in the genocide. . .

“Yet, even today, there are those who want to forget the past. Worse still, there are even those filled with such hate, total hate, that they want to erase the Holocaust from history. Those who deny the Holocaust are an accomplice to this horrible evil. . .

“We’ve seen anti-Semitism on university campuses, in the public square, and in threats against Jewish citizens. Even worse, it’s been on display in the most sinister manner when terrorists attack Jewish communities, or when aggressors threaten Israel with total and complete destruction.

“This is my pledge to you: We will confront anti-Semitism. We will stamp out prejudice. We will condemn hatred. We will bear witness. And we will act. As president of the United States, I will always stand with the Jewish people — and I will always stand with our great friend and partner, the State of Israel.”

Fake News Poll

Yesterday’s Washington Post eagerly reported that as President Trump “nears the 100-day mark of his administration” he is “the least popular chief executive in modern times.” According to the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, just 42% of Americans approve of his job performance, while 53% disapprove.

Here’s what you need to understand about this poll — it was conducted among adults, the worst possible sample from the standpoint of accuracy, especially when it comes to elections. You don’t even have to be a citizen, much less a registered or even likely voter, to be an “adult.”

Now contrast the Post’s poll of adults with Rasmussen’s poll of likely voters, which finds that 51% approve of President Trump’s job performance.

But when you get past the Post’s “fake news,” you can still find a couple of interesting nuggets of information. For example, pollsters asked people how they would vote if the 2016 election were held today. Surprisingly, Trump won 43% to Hillary Clinton’s 40%. Keep in mind that on Election Day, Clinton beat Donald Trump 48% to 46%.

So the least popular president goes from losing the popular vote to Hillary by two points in 2016 to winning a rematch by three points today? After being attacked 24-hours a day by the left-wing media for well over a year, these adults, many of whom aren’t that thrilled with Trump, still prefer him over Hillary.

Moreover, the Post poll found that the vast majority of Trump voters are — 96% — sticking with him in spite of all the negative media.

Here’s another bit of fake news. According to the Post, 58% of adults say that Trump “does not understand the problems of people like them.” But what the Post failed to explain is that even larger majorities say the GOP (62%) and the Democrat Party (67%) do not understand the problems of people like them.

The obvious conclusion is that the public is clearly dissatisfied with the state of our politics. But more people think Donald Trump understands them better than do either of the two political parties.

If you ignore the headlines and take the time to delve into the raw data, which we did, the news isn’t all that bad for President Trump. And that is just one reason why so many loyal readers appreciate this daily report. No fake news here. Just the facts!

The Battle Over Borders

Congress is facing a Friday deadline to pass key spending bills to fund the government. If they don’t approve these appropriations bills, we are headed toward another temporary government shutdown on April 28th.

Listening to the media, you’d think widows and orphans were going to starve if the government shuts down. None of the talking heads ever tell viewers that the government has shut down 18 times since 1976.

But here’s the real reason it could happen Friday — Democrats are unwilling to put up even $1 dollar to fund President Trump’s border wall. President Trump’s message to Senate Democrats should be what Barack Obama told Republicans in 2009: “I won.”

If the government is shut down, it is hard to imagine an issue more damaging to the left. I can imagine Trump going on national television saying something like this:

“Senate progressives are so committed to the radical idea of open borders, meaning no borders really, that they would rather shut down the government than secure our borders. Their open borders ideology has allowed vicious MS-13 gang members, and who knows who else, to walk into the country and threaten our children with drugs and violence. If it takes a government shutdown to draw attention to the issue of border security, so be it.”

March For Science?

As you know, there were “non-partisan” March for Science demonstrations in many U.S. cities over the weekend, including here in Washington, D.C. Of course, they really weren’t non-partisan.

They were thinly-veiled anti-Trump, anti-conservative gatherings. Some of these same folks were in Washington after the inauguration marching around town with “vagina hats” on their heads. Don’t ask.

I can say with certainty that the crowd was selective in its love of science. For example, I saw no signs defending two scientific truths that the left rejects: Life beings at conception and there are only two genders.

Can someone please give these “geniuses” a biology textbook?

Pro-Life Purge

The Democrat Party appears to be in the process of purging pro-life voters and office holders. Late Friday afternoon, DNC Chairman Tom Perez issued the following statement: “Every Democrat, like every American, should support a woman’s right to make her own choices about her body and her health. That is not negotiable. . .”

Perez’s statement came in response to loud opposition from pro-abortion groups who objected to Bernie Sanders’ endorsing a pro-life Democrat candidate for mayor of Omaha, Nebraska. That candidate quickly changed his tune last week and now promises to “never restrict access” to abortion.

While the left-wing media routinely portray Republicans as “extremists” on the issue of abortion, the reality is the exact opposite. Democrats are so extreme that they refuse to protect babies born alive after botched abortions. There isn’t one abortion they oppose — not late-term abortions or even sex-selection abortions.

The left’s extreme abortion-on-demand view is rejected by the vast majority of Americans. In fact, 28% of Democrats consider themselves pro-life.

For the life of me, I don’t understand how any pro-life voter could be a Democrat. But if the party of Clinton and Obama, Sanders and Warren is serious about purging pro-life voters from its ranks, I am happy to welcome them to the Grand Old Party, the party of Lincoln, Reagan and Trump — the party of life!

Don’t Dismiss Dr. Dean

Former Vermont Governor Dr. Howard Dean has weighed in on the Ann Coulter/Berkeley controversy. He tweeted, “Hate speech is not protected by the first amendment.”

When leftists like Howard Dean say hate speech is not protected by the First Amendment then the first question we should ask is, “What does Howard think is hate speech?” We just went through an entire election cycle in which the left told us every day what hate speech was.

According to the left, hate speech is saying that some illegal immigrants commit crimes. (By the way, the Trump Administration warned nine sanctuary cities today that they had to prove their compliance with federal law or risk losing federal dollars.)

According to the left, hate speech is saying that marriage is between a man and a woman.

According to the left, hate speech is saying that terrorist acts are being committed by radical Islamists.

Just like hate crimes, hate speech is a one-way street. Hate speech is any speech that offends the left.

Little Howard Dean wannabes on university campuses say it is hate speech if you cite research proving that most police officers really are good guys. And of course, flying the Confederate flag is hate speech. But burning an American flag is not.

A mural featuring a decapitated Donald Trump is free expression. Saying the NRA is more dangerous than ISIS is free speech.

But it is hate speech to say we should limit immigration from nations that have large radical Islamic populations. It is not hate speech to say that the flag of Islam will fly over the White House.

My point is simply this: Increasingly the left, including the left-wing media, define mainstream conservative ideas as hate speech.

So don’t dismiss the Howard Deans of the world when they tell you that hate speech isn’t protected by the First Amendment. They mean it and they mean to shut you up.

One of the reasons the country is so on edge is that at least half of America understands that the other side wants to make it impossible to defend our values.

Another Known Wolf Strikes

Progressives on both sides of the Atlantic are turning themselves into pretzels arguing that Karim Cheurfi, the Paris shooter, was not directed by ISIS or inspired by ISIS. (Never mind the note found on his body.)

Instead they will try to convince themselves and us that Cheurfi was “a lone wolf” who had just broken up with his girlfriend or who didn’t get a promotion at work or who just didn’t like French food. Whatever “triggered” him, it had absolutely nothing to do with Islam, which we all know is a religion of peace.

Well, once again we quickly learned that this lone wolf was in fact a known wolf. How known? Cheurfi was pulled in for questioning two months ago for . . . threatening to kill police.

Sadly, it gets worse. He had been sentenced to 20 years in prison for . . . attempting to kill police. But he was out on early release.

Just like our elites, French elites says that criticism of Islam is hate speech. Obviously French authorities should be more concerned about those publicly saying they want to kill police officers.

But for the elites of Europe, just like the politically correct elites here, threatening to murder the men and women of law enforcement has no legal consequences. It is just another occupational hazard those on the thin blue line are expected to deal with.

Clueless Media

Left-wing journalists were having a meltdown yesterday afternoon because President Trump said the Paris shooting “looks like another terrorist attack.” He didn’t even say “Islamic terrorist attack.” But many talking heads were in a frenzy that he would prejudge the situation.

Apparently shooting three police officers blocks from the Eiffel Tower on the eve of the French election, when authorities had just broken up one plot, is not enough evidence for someone to suggest that it “looks like” another terror attack.

Listening to these commentators yesterday, I did my own rush to judgment: “Looks like another clueless media maven to me.”

Kudos To Australia

Loyal readers of this daily report know that I have been suggesting for quite some time that we should be asking some pointed questions about values to prospective immigrants and refugees. Well, I am pleased to report that our Australian allies have done it.

New immigrants to Australia will be asked questions like the following:

  • Does Australia’s principle of freedom of religion mean that in some situations it is permissible to force children to marry?
  • In Australia’s multicultural society, under which circumstances is it permissible to cut female genitals?
  • While it is illegal to use violence in public under what circumstances can you strike your spouse in the privacy of your home?
  • Under what circumstances is it appropriate to prohibit girls from education?

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull yesterday defended the new values focus, saying, “We don’t define ourselves . . . by race or religion or ethnicity. We’re defined by a commitment to a common set of political values — freedom, equality of men and women, mutual respect, the rule of law, democracy.”

Turnbull added, “We’re proud of them, we’re committed to them, we should celebrate them, and we should put them at the core of becoming an Australian citizen.”

I trust the Trump Administration officials in charge of the new “extreme vetting” program are taking notes!

    CUFI Washington Summit

Join me in our nation’s capital on July 17th and 18th for the Christians United for Israel Washington Summit.

This year’s Summit features an outstanding lineup of speakers, including:

    Pastor John Hagee
    Col. Allen West
    Ambassador John Bolton
    Dr. Sebastian Gorka
    Knesset Member Avi Dichter
    Malcolm Hoenlein
    Erick Stakelbeck

O’Reilly Out

Fox News announced yesterday that Bill O’Reilly would not be returning to his hugely popular show, “The O’Reilly Factor.” The announcement came in the wake of sexual harassment allegations.

I have no idea if the allegations are true. O’Reilly denies them, calling the charges “completely unfounded claims.” But don’t miss the bigger picture.

The same radical left that is at war with conservatives on university campuses and with the Trump Administration has been at war with Fox News since it first emerged on the cable scene. Barack Obama repeatedly went after Fox News, the only viable conservative alternative to the left’s monopoly on the network news media.

Last year, Roger Ailes was forced out. Now Bill O’Reilly, the most watched cable TV personality in history, is out. We should not ignore the larger ideological struggle taking place.

Let me be clear: I am not an O’Reilly fan. He wrote a book alleging that President Ronald Reagan was mentally impaired, which was not true. That aside, there is no doubt that the left is trying to destroy Fox News.

The O’Reilly controversy started with an investigative report in the New York Times. In short order, left-wing groups like Media Matters and Color of Change started harassing the companies that advertised on “The O’Reilly Factor.” Dozens of companies quickly caved to the pressure, costing the network tens of millions of dollars.

Knowing how the left-wing smear machine works, Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity had better look out. The long knives are out for them now.

Left-wing Fascism At Berkeley

For the third time in as many months, the University of California, Berkeley, has banned a leading conservative from speaking on campus. The latest victim of the radical left’s fascism is author and commentator Ann Coulter.

In a statement announcing the cancellation of Coulter’s April 27th appearance, Berkeley administrators declared, “Given currently active security threats, it is not possible to assure that the event could be held successfully — or that the safety of Ms. Coulter, the event sponsors, audience, and bystanders could be adequately protected — at any of the campus venues.”

How pathetic!

Initially, Berkeley made several absurd demands. For example, the university demanded that Coulter speak only during the day — when students are in class. She agreed.

Then Berkeley demanded that the event be closed to the public and that only students could attend. Coulter agreed.

Then Berkeley said that the location could not be announced until right before the event was set to begin. In other words, Berkeley did its best to ensure that virtually no one would be able to attend her speech. But Coulter accepted all these conditions.

She asked in return only that the rioters be prosecuted and that students who engaged in violence be expelled. Well, that was too much for Berkeley. Rather than defend free speech and uphold the rule of law, Berkeley cancelled Coulter’s appearance.

Berkeley is a sad example of how our institutions of higher learning are becoming “Constitution/Conservative Free Zones,” where the First Amendment’s freedom of speech does not apply to conservatives.

Coulter, however, is unbowed. “They can’t stop me. I’m an American,” she said. “I have constitutional rights. . . The speech will go on.”

I am glad Coulter isn’t backing down. The left’s fascist tactics and its totalitarian tendencies must be exposed and resisted. Public institutions that refuse to guarantee First Amendment freedoms and fail to enforce public safety should lose access to public dollars.

Another Trump Justice?

At an event in Iowa this week, Senator Charles Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, was asked about the possibility of another vacancy opening up on the Supreme Court in the near future. Grassley answered, “I would expect a resignation this summer.” He declined to offer any names as to which justice might step down.

However, Grassley is now the second Republican senator to suggest another Supreme Court confirmation battle may be imminent. Senator Ted Cruz made a similar prediction earlier this year.

Cruz warned then that given the way Democrats were acting over Neil Gorsuch, “they will go full Armageddon meltdown” if Trump has the chance to appoint a second justice.

Most of the speculation focuses on Justice Anthony Kennedy, who turns 81 in July. And I hope the rumors are true. Replacing Kennedy, who has been terrible on values issues, with a solid conservative would be a big improvement.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court heard arguments yesterday in a significant religious liberty case from Missouri. The issue at stake is whether religious schools can participate in ANY state-funded programs. In this case, safety improvements on school playgrounds.

During yesterday’s hearing, a majority of justices seemed sympathetic to the religious schools. The court’s decision could have a major impact on education reform.

The vast majority of states have laws similar to Missouri’s, which prohibit even “indirect” public funding to churches. Such laws have been used as a justification to deny vouchers or tax credits to faith-based private schools.

This is why your support for CWF is so important. Control of the courts will be a major issue in upcoming Senate contests.
