Nunes Nonsense

Yesterday news broke that two White House officials — Ezra Cohen-Watnick and Michael Ellis — had provided documents to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA). Chairman Nunes has said the documents indicate that the Obama Administration monitored the Trump campaign and transition team on matters unrelated to Russia.

In violation of the law, the identities of U.S. citizens were revealed in the intelligence data and widely circulated throughout the government. We know from the Evelyn Farkas interview that this was done intentionally in the hope that it would eventually be leaked and used to undermine the legitimacy of the Trump Administration.

If this can be proven, it would be such an unprecedented abuse of America’s national security apparatus that it would make even Richard Nixon blush with shame. Meanwhile, the Trump White House has invited the Democrat and Republican leaders of the House and Senate Intelligence Committees to review these documents for themselves.

Not one mainstream media outlet seems willing to even entertain the possibility that there is a major Obama scandal here that could be bigger than Watergate. Instead, Big Media are fixated on how Nunes got his information.

Will Flynn Talk?

Washington is buzzing with reports that Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn is reportedly ready to “spill the beans” on the Trump/Russia connections. The left is so sure that Flynn is guilty and has a really juicy story to tell because his attorney reportedly asked for immunity in exchange for his testimony.

Folks, this is absurd. President Trump supports an immunity deal for Flynn. He tweeted this morning, “Mike Flynn should ask for immunity in that this is a witch hunt . . . of historic proportion!” That doesn’t sound like a man who has something to hide.

The president is right — this is a witch hunt, and Michael Flynn’s lawyer would be very smart to request immunity for him. The Senate Intelligence Committee, however, said it would not agree to such an arrangement.

The sad reality for years is that the left has used the criminal justice system to persecute conservatives. Here are a few examples:

  • Former Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.
  • Former House Majority Leader Tom Delay.
  • Energy Secretary Rick Perry.
  • Former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell.
  • Former Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens.

By the way, according to the New York Times, Stevens’ conviction caused his defeat in 2008 “briefly giving Democrats a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, which enabled them to pass the health care law.”

Lastly, let’s not forget that Lt. Gen. Flynn was himself the victim of a deliberate intelligence leak. Someone should be going to jail for what they did to him. And we still don’t know why Lois Lerner refused to talk about the IRS scandal or why Bryan Pagliano refused to talk about Hillary’s private server.

    Speaking Of Hillary. . .

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley (R-IA) has launched an investigation of Hillary Clinton. Sen. Grassley sent a letter this week to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson demanding to know why six key Clinton appointees at the State Department were designated as “research assistants” and allowed to retain their security clearances AFTER Clinton resigned as secretary of state and they left the department with her.

It turns out that these individuals retained their security clearances, which included access to top secret information, during the presidential campaign. Worse, their clearances were not revoked even after FBI Director James Comey had concluded that Hillary and her staff had been “extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information.”

Grassley has tried several times to get answers to critical questions, but was repeatedly stonewalled while Obama was in office. Maybe now we will finally get some answers.

    Cease Fire!

All last year, many people underestimated Donald Trump and misunderstood his strategy, including me at times. And since he is the one sitting in the Oval Office today, perhaps we should give him the benefit of the doubt.

That said, I am mystified by his tweet yesterday singling out the Freedom Caucus as the problem when it comes to repealing Obamacare.

When the audio of Trump and Billy Bush broke, there was a serious effort to force Trump off the ticket. Laura Ingraham said on Fox News last night that Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney’s 2012 running mate, was widely believed to have been part of that “dump Trump” effort. (Here, here and here. ) During that political crisis, many Freedom Caucus members closed ranks and defended the party’s nominee.

It is to his credit that Donald Trump values loyalty, but what about loyalty here? Going to the mat in defense of Ryancare, while berating the Freedom Caucus, doesn’t make sense to me. Ryancare is supported by only 17% of the public. Even Republican voters oppose it by 34 points.

Why is that? Because House leaders have not explained what the good things are in the legislation. The House leadership failed on a fundamental responsibility — to explain why that alternative would be better.

I don’t want to oversimplify the complex issues involved here. Obamacare must be repealed. That may require time and a complicated process nobody likes. But for that to happen, to at least get the process of repeal started, the Republican Party must be unified. The circular firing squad must stop.

    Democrats Go To The Mat

Democrats are going to the mat to block the confirmation of Judge Neil Gorsuch. Desperate to justify their unprecedented obstructionism, Democrats are spreading lies about “standards for confirmation” and the filibuster.

According to the latest count, 37 Senate Democrats are opposed to Gorsuch’s confirmation — just four votes short of the number needed to sustain a filibuster. So far, only two Democrats — Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) — are on the record in favor of confirming Judge Gorsuch.

This is not a fight we can afford to lose. Nor should we. Only 37% of Americans support the left’s attempt to deny Judge Gorsuch a vote in the Senate.

ACTION ITEM: If you haven’t already done so, please click here now to send a message urging your senators to oppose Chuck Schumer’s filibuster of Judge Neil Gorsuch. If you have emailed your senators, call them at 202-224-3121.

It is especially important for Republican senators to hear from conservatives that there should be no “gangs” or backroom deals this time. If Democrats filibuster, Republicans must invoke the “Reid Rule” to ensure that a simple majority vote is all that is needed to confirm Judge Gorsuch.

The Enemy Within

Drexel University Professor George Ciccariello is back in the news. He made headlines in December when he tweeted, “All I want for Christmas is White Genocide.” By the way, Ciccariello is white. Drexel said he was being sarcastic and refused to fire him.

Here’s the latest from the learned professor. While on a flight last weekend, he tweeted: “Some guy gave up his first class seat for a uniformed soldier. People are thanking him. I’m trying not to vomit or yell about Mosul.”

In 132 characters, Professor Ciccariello provides us a perfect summary of what is wrong with the far left.

He hates the men and women who wear the uniform of this country. He hates those who appreciate them and their sacrifice and service. He hates what America is. This is why he and other leftists like him are so intent on “fundamentally transforming” this country.

Unfortunately, what is wrong with the extreme left is largely to blame for so much of what is going wrong in America today.

Drexel University is an elite institution that costs approximately $67,000 a year to attend. Parents save for years to send their children to this school so they can be educated and have a better life. And then they are taught — no, indoctrinated — by ideological idiots.

Sadly, this intellectual rot has infected all levels of academia. Far too often we are teaching our children anti-American history.

Meanwhile, we are under siege by radical Islamists who are committing genocide against Christians and who seek a second Holocaust of the Jews. They enslave women, butcher prisoners and execute homosexuals. And while this war rages, many of our institutions of higher learning are teaching our children that Western Civilization is evil and that America is morally corrupt.

The anti-American radicals who dominate academia are, in the long run, just as dangerous to the well-being and security of this country as are the barbarians of ISIS. They are the enemy within, undermining our confidence as a culture and people, making our nation weak.

In a healthy society, Professor Ciccariello would be fired. Instead, the Drexel administration will defend his freedom of speech, just as it did after his “white genocide” tweet.

In a healthy society, disabled veterans and parents holding pictures of their deceased military family members would protest outside of his office every day until he resigns. Instead, he will be honored by the other kooky faculty members who share his disgusting views.

Farkas Fracas II

The Evelyn Farkas MSNBC interview we mentioned yesterday got more attention this morning on Fox & Friends. Other conservative media outlets are asking questions too.

During her appearance on “Moring Joe,” this former Obama Pentagon official talks about how she and her colleagues were trying to get intelligence information regarding Donald Trump out to as many places as possible last year and that’s why there were so many leaks.

Perhaps even more significantly, Farkas had already left the administration by that time. In fact, well before that time. She left the Pentagon in 2015 and was foreign policy advisor on Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

With that in mind, how did Farkas have access to intelligence information from 2016? Her comments clearly sound as if Clinton campaign operatives had access to classified information about the Trump campaign. How did that happen?

Farkas should be called before congressional intelligence committees and put under oath immediately.

More Mysteries

Newsweek is reporting that FBI Director James Comey wanted to go public last June with evidence of Russia’s interference in the election. (Comey’s concerns had nothing to do with possible collusion with the Trump campaign.)

Comey wrote an outline of a letter to the editor that he wanted to publish in a major newspaper and he explained the idea during a meeting with Obama cabinet members. They turned him down.

Now that seems really odd. If Russian interference in the election was such a big deal in June that the FBI director wanted to let the American people know, why would the Obama White House want to keep it quiet?

Perhaps they were afraid that Republicans and Donald Trump would demand tough action against Russia. But the past eight years had demonstrated that Obama would not take tough action against Russia. Maybe Obama was just trying to maintain his “flexibility.”

Maybe if Comey had released his letter, the Russians would have changed their behavior, potentially compromising secret surveillance that was underway at the time. Or perhaps the Obama Administration was conducting other election-related surveillance that it did not want exposed.

Democrats Kill Bipartisanship

There is a lot of nostalgia across America for the days when Democrats and Republicans could get along, when Ronald Reagan and Tip O’Neill could fight over policy and still enjoy a drink together. While the media like to blame “unyielding, right-wing extremists” for the demise of bipartisanship, it is the left that is poisoning the well.

There is a tradition in Washington of the president inviting senators to the White House for non-political receptions, offering leaders a chance to get to know one another “outside of the office.” Last night, President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump hosted such an event at the White House. Sadly, most Senate Democrats did not attend.

While Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer was there, many members of the Democrat leadership were not, including Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who serves as “Outreach Chairman” for the Democrat caucus.

Senator Rand Paul told the Washington Times, “I went every time I was invited by President Obama.” Sadly, there is very little outreach coming from the left.

The party’s radical base will not tolerate anything that hints of bipartisanship or compromise today. “Resist” is their mantra. That is why the left threatens to challenge any Democrat who “normalizes” Donald Trump. That is why they are filibustering Neil Gorsuch.

My point is simply this: The Democrat Party of JFK is dead. The radicals have taken over. For all the media’s talk about how Ronald Reagan could not be nominated in today’s Republican Party, Bill Clinton could not be nominated in today’s Democrat Party.

She’s Back!

Hillary Clinton emerged from the woods last night to deliver what some described as “her first major post-elect speech.” As might be expected, her remarks to the Professional Businesswomen of California sounded like so much of the angry feminism that has come to dominate the left.

Clinton attacked the Trump cabinet for having too few women. She attacked White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer for pushing back against an overly aggressive left-wing, female journalist. She attack Bill O’Reilly who joked about Maxine Waters’ hair. (He later apologized.) Clinton urged her audience to “Resist, insist, persist, enlist.” (Why does the left always rhyme its inanities?)

Some commentators have noted, however, that unlike her daughter, Chelsea, Hillary did not come to Kellyanne Conway’s defense when a Democrat congressman made a crude, sexist joke about her.

Hillary has warned us that she intends to increase her public profile in the coming weeks. We should not prematurely conclude that 2016 was her last chance. She remains very combative and apparently hungry for the Oval Office.

It is crucial that voters in the Trump coalition not become complacent. Even though we won the election, we can’t stop paying attention. Just look at the landscape. The left did not go away. The left did not take a timeout for introspective reflection.

Quite the opposite. It is doubling down on its radicalism. It is filibustering Judge Gorsuch. It is determined to undermine Donald Trump’s presidency, and impeach him if possible. And left-wing groups are raising record amounts of money.

My friends, let me paraphrase Mrs. Clinton:

Are you prepared to RESIST the left?

Are you prepared to INSIST that our laws are enforced, that our values are respected?

Are you prepared to PERSIST in this fight, no matter what?

Are you prepared to ENLIST in our efforts to defend faith, family and freedom?

We must fight back!

Creepy In California

The undercover work of the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) is back in the headlines today. As you may recall, CMP is the group that exposed Planned Parenthood’s trafficking in aborted baby body parts.

Their latest video exposes a California abortionist who thinks it is “creepy” that people refer to the baby as “Baby this, baby that, baby so-and-so. . . I’m like, that’s creepy!” Well, that’s what it is — a baby.

In the video, the abortionist thinks she is talking to medical researchers who want an intact body in order to harvest organs.

What is “creepy” is that anyone can perform late-term abortions and be so callous about the babies who are born alive. Yes, that’s right.

When asked what standards the abortionist uses to “verify signs of life” when delivering an intact “fetus” after a late-term abortion, she replies, “The key is, you need to pay attention to who’s in the room, right? It’s a mess. It’s a mess.”

The clear implication is that this so-called “doctor” has no standards and is most likely violating the law. Yesterday, California’s top law enforcement officials took action. They filed 15 felony charges against . . . the undercover CMP journalists.

This is a total perversion of our legal system!

Left-wing politicians routinely turn a blind eye to the inevitable crimes that occur as a result of their sanctuary city policies. And California’s law against the private recording of individuals has never been enforced against journalists.

Once again, we are seeing just how intolerant the left truly is. The left will excuse away the murder of American citizens in order to defend open borders. It will turn a blind eye to the deaths of innocent babies that survive late-term abortions in order to defend “choice.”

But the left has zero tolerance for the First Amendment when it comes to exposing Planned Parenthood’s disgusting business model of trafficking in aborted baby body parts.

Farkas Fracas

Rep. Devin Nunes, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, is under increasing pressure to step down ever since he announced that new information corroborated the president’s allegation that the Obama Administration had monitored the Trump transition team.

Anyone who wants to argue the facts should just review the tape. Watch this interview from March 2nd. Former Obama official Evelyn Farkas admits that the Obama Administration monitored Trump staff members.

She also admits that she was “urging my former colleagues” and “Hill people” to “get as much information as you can — get as much intelligence as you can — before President Obama leaves the administration.” In other words, she admits that she encouraged people to expose classified information.

Farkas adds that her former colleagues were “trying to get information to the Hill” — meaning left-wing politicians who want to impeach Trump — and she says, “And that’s why you have the leaking.” In other words, the exposure of classified information by Obama loyalists within the government is their way of communicating with partisan hacks in Congress.

Yet Democrats and their media allies want to make Chairman Nunes the issue.

Kudos To Gen. Townsend

Lt. Gen. Stephen Townsend, commander of coalition forces in Iraq, held a press conference yesterday regarding the controversial military campaign to liberate Mosul from Islamic State jihadists. He suffered through about 45 minutes of nonsense questions when he finally put the left-wing reporters in their place. Here’s what he said:

“[It’s] a little disappointing to me that all the questions were about our airstrikes, and our process, and our decisions. If these innocents were killed by the coalition, it was an unintentional accident of war, and ISIS is slaughtering Iraqis and Syrians on a daily basis.

“ISIS is cutting off heads. ISIS is shooting people, throwing people from buildings, burning them alive in cages and they are making the video record to prove it. This has got to stop. This evil has got to be stamped out. And in my mind . . . the moral responsibility for civilian deaths in Iraq and Syria belongs to ISIS. I’ll close with that.”

Trump Touts Jobs

Ford announced plans today to invest more than $1 billion in three Michigan plants, potentially creating hundreds of new jobs. President Trump celebrated the announcement this morning, tweeting, “Major investment to be made in three Michigan plants. Car companies coming back to U.S. JOBS! JOBS! JOBS!”

President Trump also went to the Environmental Protection Agency today. He was in the belly of the bureaucratic beast to sign an executive order rolling back Barack Obama’s job-killing environmental regulations.

In a related development, I am pleased to report that House Republican leaders announced this morning that they have restarted negotiations on legislation to repeal Obamacare. As you know, that is exactly what I called for in my report yesterday!

Democrats Go Nuclear

Don’t look backwards to the healthcare fiasco, my friends. Another showdown may be looming on the horizon. Emboldened by the Republican healthcare defeat, Democrats are signaling that they will do whatever it takes to torpedo Judge Neil Gorsuch’s confirmation to the Supreme Court.

Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) announced yesterday that he supports Chuck Schumer’s decision to filibuster Judge Gorsuch. Eleven years ago Nelson was one of 19 Senate Democrats who opposed the filibuster of Samuel Alito. Nelson is also one of ten Senate Democrats up for reelection next year in a state Donald Trump won.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and his GOP colleagues have it in their power to prevent this. They can change the rules, just as Harry Reid did, when it served the left’s interests to do so. And we should stop referring to this rules change as “the nuclear option.”

In their desperation to control every lever of power in order to fundamentally redefine America, Democrats are the ones “going nuclear” in order to block conservative judges.

Filibusters of Supreme Court nominations are unprecedented. Perhaps only one Supreme Court nomination has ever been successfully defeated by a filibuster. And even Barack Obama, who voted to filibuster Alito, later came to regret it and said it was the wrong thing to do.

What Democrats are doing to Judge Gorsuch is unfortunate. But it would be tragic if Republicans allow the Democrats to succeed because some Republican senators put process above principle. After having fumbled the ball on Obamacare repeal, Republicans must not fail to confirm Neil Gorsuch.

ACTION ITEM: Click here to send a message urging your senators to oppose Chuck Schumer’s filibuster of Judge Neil Gorsuch.

The Left Attacks Our Patriotism

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), one of the most radical left-wing members of Congress, delivered an impassioned speech last night on the House floor about patriotism. But don’t get too excited.

The left has looked down its nose at patriotism forever. It is suddenly tough on Russia for the first time since the Cold War because the left thinks Russia stopped Hillary Clinton from becoming president.

The left demands total loyalty to open borders, same-sex marriage and global warming. If you don’t agree with left-wing dogma on those issues you’re not a patriot. But in Maxine’s mind, opposing Donald Trump is patriotic. Here’s some of what she said:

“I oppose this president. I do not honor this president. I do not respect this president. . . When we fight against this president, and we point out how dangerous he is for this society and for this country, we’re fighting for the democracy. We’re fighting for America. We’re saying to those who say they’re patriotic . . . ‘You’re not nearly as patriotic as we are.'”
Who knows how this will end. The left has redefined caring for the environment to mean global warming and climate change. The left appears to be on the verge of redefining healthcare. And it has redefined marriage. If the left succeeds, perhaps patriotism in the near future may mean opposing conservatives.

Ted’s Truth

Did you happen to see the exchange between Sean Hannity and Ted Koppel? It is worth watching. During an interview about the role of the media and polarization in America, Koppel’s elitist attitude was on full display. It was clear that in Koppel’s mind, the left-wing media are the ultimate arbiters of truth.

This prompted Sean Hannity to ask, “You think we’re bad for America? You think I’m bad for America?” Koppel answered, “Yeah, in the long haul. . . You have attracted people who are determined that ideology is more important than facts.”

That is Ted Koppel’s version of the truth — only our left-wing media elites define what truth is, while conservatives are just a bunch of Neanderthals stuck on ideology.

The truth is that it is so-called “progressives” who are all about ideology.

Ideology is what is driving Maxine Waters.

Ideology is what is driving the filibuster of Neil Gorsuch.

Ideology is what led the left to redefine marriage and declare biology to be bigotry.

Ideology is why we call some men “women” or why some people now claim to be “genderless.”

Ideology is why schools are now forcing young boys to change in front girls and why girls are losing athletic games to boys who pretend to be girls.

Ideology is why the left believes in open borders and thinks illegal immigration and sanctuary cities make sense.

Ideology is why progressives can’t see that what is in the womb is a human life even though textbooks are clear about when life begins.

Trump’s Tweet

In a series of provocative tweets last night, President Trump asked questions that are on the minds of millions of Americans, questions that the left-wing media would never ask. He tweeted [condensed for ease of reading]:

“Why isn’t the House Intelligence Committee looking into the Bill & Hillary deal that allowed big Uranium to go to Russia, Russian speech money to Bill, the Hillary Russian ‘reset,’ praise of Russia by Hillary, or Podesta Russian Company. Trump Russia story is a hoax.”
As the president noted, Hillary Clinton’s actions and policies benefitted Russia. As I noted in my latest opinion piece, Trump’s actions and policies will not. So why all the hysterical focus on Trump?

What Now?

In the wake of Friday’s healthcare debacle, both sides within the Republican Party regrouped and made rational arguments for their positions over the weekend.

Speaker Ryan and the White House argued that the proposed legislation was the most that could be done when not one Democrat would vote for any meaningful reform of Obamacare. In addition, Republicans only have a two-vote majority in the Senate, and at least five unreliable senators from purple states. Susan Collins of Maine, for example, voted against the 2015 repeal bill.

The Freedom Caucus argued that the legislation did not do what Trump and Republicans promised to do during the campaign — repeal and replace Obamacare. There is conflicting evidence as to whether it would have lowered premiums. By passing a half measure, conservatives feared that we would end up going into 2018 on the defensive because Obamacare wasn’t completely replaced.

There is logic in both arguments. The problem is that our opponents, including the media, are using Friday’s failure as evidence that Republicans can’t govern. They are charging that Donald Trump can’t deliver on one of his major strengths — making deals. His entire agenda, including tax reform and border security, is now being called into question.

In addition, Republican spokesmen on both sides of the issue spent the weekend attacking each other, instead of aiming their fire at the left.

Everyone should just step back and take a deep breath. We are only 69 days into the Trump presidency. There is no reason to give up. Virtually everyone agrees that Obamacare is a disaster.

In fact, even Bernie Sanders concedes that. He told CNN this weekend, “Obamacare has serious problems. Deductibles are too high. Premiums are too high. The cost of health care is going up at a much faster rate than it should.”

Speaker Ryan, the White House and the Freedom Caucus should reopen negotiations as soon as possible to see if there is something they can agree on that can pass.

Finally, when the media attempt to bait them into blaming other Republicans, they need to redirect the discussion and put the blame where it belongs — on the left. Every Republican must remind the public that not one Democrat in the House or Senate was willing to work in a constructive manner to clean up the Obamacare mess they created.

“Progressives” celebrated the preservation of the Obamacare disaster, which has resulted in millions of people losing their doctors and being forced to buy insurance they can’t afford to use. Republicans are trying to save a healthcare system the left wrecked. There is no time for circular firing squads. Our country is suffering.

Transitiongate Continues

Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law, will reportedly be questioned by Senate Intelligence Committee investigators. It turns out that Mr. Kushner, who is a close advisor to the president, met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak . . . after the election. So this has nothing to do with Russia’s alleged interference in the campaign, which is what I thought the investigation was all about.

Moreover, the New York Times adds, “Members of presidential transition teams routinely meet with foreign officials, and there is nothing inherently improper about sitting down with the Russian ambassador.”

This obsession with anyone who met with a Russian at any time looks a lot like McCarthyism.

Meanwhile, Democrats are ramping up their attacks on House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes after reports broke that he was seen on the White House grounds the day before his stunning announcement last Wednesday that the Trump transition team was being monitored by the Obama Administration.

Nunes told reporters that he was not in the White House. Instead, he was next door at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in order to access “a secure location where he could view the information provided by the source.”

Sessions vs. Sanctuary Cities

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced at the White House today that the Justice Department would begin taking action to hold sanctuary cities accountable for “policies designed to frustrate” the enforcement of America’s immigration laws. Sessions said that the Justice Department was preparing to release $4 billion in grants to cities and states, but he added that sanctuary cities would be denied funds.

The issue is making headlines after an adult illegal immigrant brutally raped a 14 year-old girl in a Maryland public high school. The attack occurred just as left-wing legislators in Annapolis were considering a bill to declare Maryland a “sanctuary state.”

Asked about Maryland becoming a sanctuary state, Sessions said it would be a “terrible mistake.”

“Such policies cannot continue,” Attorney General Sessions said. “They make our nation less safe by putting dangerous criminals back on the streets.”

The American people overwhelmingly agree. A recent Rasmussen poll found that only 35% of voters want to live in a so-called “sanctuary city.” Moreover, only 17% of voters accept the left’s “logic” that sanctuary city policies make a community safer.

Manipulating Mosul

Coalition forces led by the United States recently bombed a location in Mosul in which dozens of civilians reportedly died. Yesterday’s Washington Post featured a front page article suggesting that the Mosul attack was just the latest in a series of mishaps in which civilians were caught in the crossfire of Donald Trump’s “get tough” approach to radical Islam. The media are grossly manipulating these events.

What other events are they referring to? Well, there was the raid in Yemen in which civilians were killed after jihadist women picked up guns and fought our Navy SEALs.

Some reports have said as many as 200 people were killed in the Mosul bombing. But officials now say that represents the number of people killed over several days of fighting, not just in one incident.

Moreover, the airstrike in Mosul took place because Iraqi intelligence said this area was a hotbed of ISIS resistance, and they were right. In fact, the latest reports indicate that what killed the civilians was “an ISIS truck laden with explosives.”

ISIS is refusing to let civilians evacuate the war zone. They are using them as human shields. They are putting explosives in homes and snipers on roof tops. To the armchair generals at the Washington Post and the ACLU, those acts are war crimes and are prohibited under international law.

This is no different than what takes place in Gaza whenever the terrorists of Hamas fire rockets at Israel from civilian neighborhoods. When Israel responds and civilians are killed, Hamas is responsible for those deaths, not Israel.

Trump Tried

After seven long, hard, grueling years, this was supposed to be a moment of victory for the GOP. This was supposed to be the beginning of the end of Obamacare.

I realize the legislation under consideration is far from ideal. But the circumstances we are facing are far from ideal. Repealing a major entitlement, and reforming an issue as complex as health care, is never going to be an easy process.

But the legislation, which went too far for moderates and not far enough for some conservatives, was at least a chance to start the process, an opportunity to move the ball down the field. Instead, the House leadership fumbled the ball.

Just before 4:00, a Washington Post reporter tweeted that President Trump called him to say the bill was being pulled from the floor, and that he did not blame Speaker Paul Ryan.

Whatever happens going forward, this much is clear: President Trump tried his best to end Obamacare. The most important thing he did was to defeat Hillary Clinton on November 8th. Without that victory, there would have been no chance of ever repealing Obamacare.

The president threw himself into this fight and was intimately involved in the details, personally lobbying 120 members of Congress on the issue. At his daily briefing, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said that Trump “left everything on the field.”

Vice President Mike Pence was also key player in the process, cancelling a number of trips so he could remain in Washington for last-minute negotiations. Pence was on Capitol Hill this afternoon making one last pitch.

I hope Republicans on Capitol Hill can get their act together and get this done at some point. If they fail, Obamacare will survive and they will have to live with the consequences, along with the American people.

Trump Wins

The administration did score some victories today: A federal court in Virginia upheld President Trump’s executive order limiting immigration from several Muslim nations. The judge rejected arguments by the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) and ruled that the measures contained in the order were well within the president’s constitutional authority.

President Trump also officially approved the Keystone XL pipeline, ending years of Obama stonewalling and capitulation to the radical environmentalist movement. Trump declared, “It’s a great day for jobs and energy independence.”

Crisis Coming?

Brace yourselves, my friends. The latest revelations of possible spying against President Trump and his associates could be leading us toward a constitutional crisis.

News broke late yesterday of potential “smoking gun” evidence proving that the Obama Administration spied on the Trump transition team and perhaps even Donald Trump himself. Rep. Devin Nunes, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said he has reviewed intelligence reports that he found “alarming.”

These reports included information about the Trump transition team and inappropriately disclosed the identities of U.S. citizens. This monitoring had nothing to do with Russia. So why was the transition team being monitored?

Today, Rep. Nunes announced that he was delaying a scheduled Intelligence Committee hearing with top former Obama Administration officials. Instead, he was calling back FBI Director James Comey and NSA Director Admiral Michael Rogers to appear before a closed session of the Intelligence Committee on Monday in order to get clear answers to questions that cannot be addressed in a public session.

Rep. Nunes also said that Paul Manafort, Donald Trump’s former campaign manager who has been the target of much speculation, has volunteered to testify before the House and Senate Intelligence Committees in order to clear his name.

While Democrats and their left-wing media allies want this investigation to be about Trump and Russia and nothing else, it is not difficult to imagine that the Obama Administration may have been spying on Trump. Obama has a well-documented history of spying on U.S. allies and on American citizens, such as:

  • Fox News reporter James Rosen.
  • The Associated Press.
  • Rep. Jason Chaffetz.
  • Pro-Israel members of Congress and Jewish groups.
  • The U.S. Senate.

Former Congressman Pete Hoekstra, who served as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, writes in today’s Wall Street Journal, “I cannot recall how many times I asked to see raw intelligence reporting and was refused because that stuff is just not made available to policy makers.” Finding its way to the White House, Hoekstra writes, “is very likely unprecedented.” He adds that Directors Comey and Rogers should be fired.

Famed Watergate reporter Bob Woodward, who knows a thing or two about presidential abuses of power, said if the allegations are true, it would be “a gross violation” that “could be criminal on the part of people who decided, ‘Oh, let’s name these people.'”

By the way, FBI Director James Comey was spotted at the White House this afternoon, supposedly for a “routine interagency meeting.” Maybe so. But there is very little going on in Washington these days that is “routine.”

    Russia’s Trump Problem

Since well before Donald Trump was elected president, the media have been obsessed with his supposed Russia problem — stemming from the Putin regime’s alleged interference in the 2016 election and its purported ties to key members of Trump’s campaign.

But the real issue surrounding Trump and Russia has nothing to do with collusion between Trump and Russia. Rather, it has to do with the problems Trump will create for Russia and its interests.

End Of Day Report

Will Obamacare Survive?

Today marks the seventh anniversary of Obamacare. After voters gave Republicans control of the House, the Senate and the White House on November 8th, many hoped that a vote today in the House of Representatives might mark the beginning of the end of Obamacare.

President Trump made another attempt today to persuade conservative holdouts in the House Freedom Caucus to support the leadership’s repeal bill. But they emerged from the White House without a deal.

Meanwhile, The Hill reports that moderates in the Republican caucus aren’t sold either. The president plans to meet with them today as House leaders scramble to find the votes they need.

News broke at 3:30 that the House leadership had cancelled tonight’s scheduled vote on the Obamacare repeal bill. The stock market turned down on the news. As one financial analyst put it, the healthcare bill was “the first ‘put up or shut up’ moment of Trump’s presidency,” the first chance to “find out whether meaningful change can really happen — or not.”

I still believe a deal can be reached tomorrow or over the weekend.

Deep State Strikes Back

I want to revisit the stunning announcement yesterday by Rep. Devin Nunes, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. Chairman Nunes made an unscheduled trip to the White House to inform the president that his communications were in fact monitored by the government. Rep. Nunes also stressed that “None of this surveillance was related to Russia or the investigation of Russian activities or of the Trump team.”

So what was it related to?

This gets back to FBI Director James Comey’s testimony on Monday. Comey made headlines for saying that there is an active investigation of the Trump campaign for possible collusion with Russia. Comey stated that this investigation began in July — around the time Trump became the nominee of the Republican Party.

Under questioning Monday, Comey stated that he usually makes quarterly notifications to key executive branch and congressional leaders when it comes to counterintelligence operations. Asked when he notified the leadership about the Trump investigation that began in July, Comey said that congressional leaders were only informed “recently,” while the Justice Department “was aware of it all along.”

Let’s get this straight: The Obama FBI director, who answers to the Obama Justice Department, began investigating the Republican candidate in the middle of the most consequential presidential election in modern history. Are we really to believe that Obama’s attorney general, Loretta Lynch, did not inform the Obama White House that Donald Trump was under investigation?

Meanwhile, the only people NOT INFORMED last year were the Republican House and Senate Intelligence Committees.

So the Democrat administration was investigating the Republican presidential candidate and it deliberately kept Republican congressional leaders in the dark. Comey justified his exclusion of the congressional leadership by saying that he wanted to keep it “tight within the executive branch.” I bet he did!

Why isn’t this a scandal? Where is the “free press” that is always so eager to serve as a check on executive power? Perhaps instead of investigating Russian interference in the election we need an investigation of Obama’s use of our national security agencies to interfere in the election!

Democrats and their deep state allies don’t like the unusual twists and turns of this controversy. Yesterday evening, they struck back at Rep. Nunes, questioning his integrity, suggesting he leaked classified information and demanding that he be investigated.

Then CNN fired another shot in this war, reporting that: “The FBI has information that indicates associates of President Donald Trump communicated with suspected Russian operatives to possibly coordinate the release of information damaging to Hillary Clinton’s campaign, U.S. officials told CNN.

But if you read further into the report, it becomes clear that there is little to it. “Officials cautioned that the information was not conclusive” and that it was “premature to draw” conclusions based on information that is “largely circumstantial.”

In other words, we’ve got next to nothing, except for more unauthorized leaks perfectly timed to distract from the information Rep. Nunes revealed.

Democrats To Filibuster Gorsuch

Judge Neil Gorsuch endured 20 hours of grilling by the Senate Judiciary Committee this week. Democrats hoping to derail him failed miserably. Even liberal commentators recognized that.

NBC’s Mark Halperin said, “[Judge Gorsuch] was a very good pick politically and substantively. . . Gorsuch is doing so well, in part, because he’s so well prepared.”

CNN’ legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin said, “He’s doing well. He knows more constitutional law than [the senators] asking these questions. . . Obviously, he’s got some charm, a lot of intelligence and he’s doing fine.”

CNBC’s John Harwood tweeted, “[Gorsuch] makes [an] extremely strong case for himself.”

Unfortunately, Democrats don’t care. This morning, Schumer announced on the Senate floor that Democrats intended to filibuster Judge Gorsuch’s nomination, saying that he “will have to earn 60 votes for confirmation.”

Schumer then dared Senate Republicans, adding that if they can’t persuade at least eight Democrats to join them, “the answer isn’t to change the rules. It’s to change the nominee.”

Harry Reid had no problem changing the Senate’s rules when it was to the left’s advantage to do so. If Schumer is going to demonize a judge of Gorsuch’s character and intellect, then the rules need to be changed by the GOP.

Republicans must not allow Chuck Schumer to hold the Supreme Court hostage to his left-wing demands. Majority Leader McConnell would be far better off changing the rules now with a nominee like Judge Gorsuch, who does not alter the ideological balance of the court. The next vacancy — Kennedy or Ginsburg — will make a huge difference.

If Schumer wants to have this fight now, bring it on!

The Battle of Britain

Kudos to British intelligence. The reaction time to yesterday’s terrorist attack appeared to be very high. The government also launched a series of raids overnight that netted eight extremists. But . . .

NBC News reports that London Mayor Sadiq Khan “invited Londoners to an evening vigil and promised ‘business as usual.'” In my opinion, that’s part of the problem. Terrorism requires more than vigils, and “business as usual” is what has been happening as radical Islam has gained a beachhead in Great Britain.

Khalid Masood managed to get onto the grounds of Parliament because he went through an unlocked gate for vehicles. The fact that the gate was unlocked is indicative of a mindset that is unprepared for attacks.

To add insult to injury, the policeman guarding the gate was unarmed, in keeping with British tradition. And he was stabbed to death by the jihadist Masood. In my view, this officer is another victim of the left, just like the 14 year-old girl brutally raped at her high school by an adult illegal immigrant “freshman.”

Left-wing political ideology is killing people.
