The President’s Address

President Donald Trump will deliver his first address before a joint session of Congress tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET. Technically, this is not a traditional State of the Union address because the president has not yet served a full year in office. But President Trump is expected to broadly outline his agenda and offer some goals for the year ahead.

We might have a clue about some of the president’s remarks from the special guests the White House invited to tonight’s address.

  • Megan Crowley — Born with a rare genetic disorder, doctors said Megan was unlikely to live past her second birthday. She is now 20, and a student at Notre Dame. Her life is a testament to the dignity and value of every life.
  • Denisha Merriweather — Thanks to innovative educational choice programs, Denisha became the first person in her family to graduate high school and college.
  • Jessica Davis and Susan Oliver — In 2014, two California sheriff’s deputies, Michael Davis, Jr., and Danny Oliver, were killed by an illegal immigrant. Then-Senator Jeff Sessions and Rep. Trey Gowdy sponsored the Davis-Oliver Act to assist local law enforcement with interior immigration enforcement efforts and to crack down on sanctuary cities. The widows of Deputies Davis and Oliver, Jessica Davis and Susan Oliver, will attend tonight’s address in memory of their husbands and in honor of the sacrifice of all law enforcement officers.
  • Jamiel Shaw, Sr. — In 2008, Shaw’s son, a high school honors student, was executed by an illegal immigrant right outside his house as he was walking home.
  • Maureen McCarthy Scalia — Also attending tonight’s address is the widow of late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. The Scalias were married for 55 years at the time of Justice Scalia’s death. Of their large family of nine children, Mrs. Scalia once remarked that she and her husband were “both overachievers.”

    Trump’s Defense Buildup

One subject that is almost certain to come up tonight is President Trump’s request for a 10% increase in defense spending. The media are breathlessly reporting the additional amount — $54 billion — as if it is an outrageous demand that would sink the nation.

To his credit, the president is vowing to offset this spending with cuts elsewhere in the budget. But let’s put this into perspective. As columnist Charles Krauthammer recently noted, “Eight years ago, defense spending was 4.6 percent of GDP. Today it’s 3.2 percent. That is a catastrophic collapse.”

What the media are hyping as a huge increase is merely a necessary first step in making up the shortfall of the past eight years. The Obama Administration depleted our military and did not undertake necessary maintenance.

A recent report found that the vast majority of the Navy’s F/A 18 strike fighter jets were unable to fly.

There were times in recent years when we did not have an aircraft carrier in the Middle East. Last month, there was a period when none of our carriers were at sea, something that has not happened since World War II.

The U.S. Army is the smallest it has been since before Pearl Harbor.

This is happening when China is rising in the Pacific, when Russia is becoming increasingly aggressive, when Iran’s belligerence is growing, when ISIS is on a murderous rampage in the Middle East and parts of Africa. And let’s not forget the maniac in North Korea.

When Trump says he inherited a mess, this is what he is talking about. Subpar economic growth and a depleted military, stressed by commitments all over the world. It is unlikely any president could repair the damage in four years. It will likely take eight years or more.

Sen. John McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, hasn’t said much lately I have been inclined to agree with. Yesterday, he said something sensible when he suggested that President Trump’s increase in defense spending probably wasn’t enough. McCain added, “With a world on fire . . . we can and must do better.”

    Democrats Behaving Badly

As we have chronicled for you, and as you have seen with your own eyes, the left has been behaving badly for the past year. There has been violence on university campuses and at political rallies. Free speech has been redefined by the left to mean freedom from conservative opinions. While yelling “Nazi,” many leftists are increasingly using fascist tactics to silence conservatives.

Sadly, some of that behavior is likely to be on display on Capitol Hill during President Trump’s address tonight. There won’t just be Democrats in the chamber, but hardcore leftists for whom even the Clintons were too moderate.

Some of them refused to listen to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the leader of an allied nation that had the most to lose from the Iranian nuclear deal. There may even be people in the gallery who will try to disrupt the president’s speech.

As we noted recently, the left’s mantra is resistance “by any means necessary.” Rosie O’Donnell is leading a protest outside the White House tonight.

How bad is the breakdown in civility? Well, as my wife, Carol, noted in her prayer alert this morning, the latest dilemma for congressional Democrats is whether they should even shake the president’s hand as he walks through the chamber tonight. Seriously!

And speaking of bad leftists, one of the organizers of next month’s feminist protest — yes, I know, another one — is a convicted Palestinian terrorist. Yet another example of the political left making common cause with radical Islamists.

    Good News

  • Democrats are overdoing it. A new Rasmussen poll finds that only 29% of voters approve of the Democrats’ “resist everything” stance toward Trump, while 63% say it would be best for the country if they compromised more. Democrats are divided — 44% believe they should oppose Trump as much as possible, while 46% say they should work with Trump.
  • Elections do indeed have consequences. The Trump Justice Department announced yesterday that it was rejecting a disgusting smear in the Obama Administration’s legal assault against Texas’ voter ID law.
  • A new poll by the left-leaning outlet Politico finds that President Trump’s approval rating among registered voters stands at 50% approve to 45% disapprove. After several months of non-stop bashing by the biased media, Trump appears to have more support among voters now than he did on Election Day!

Fake News

I hope you are sharing these reports with friends and family members. If they only get their news from the “mainstream media,” they really are getting fake news. Here are two examples.

Friday, the New York Times did a report on President Trump’s CPAC speech. Consider this excerpt:

“Speaking to the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday, Mr. Trump launched what was easily the most blistering attack on the media and corporate elites of his already bellicose and eventful presidency. His speech also included a promise to throw undocumented immigrants ‘the hell out of the country’ and a recitation of his law-and-order campaign promises.”
Now, here is President Trump’s full quote about the immigrants he plans to throw out of the country:

“We are also going to save countless American lives. As we speak today, immigration offers are finding the gang members, the drug dealers and the criminal aliens and throwing them the hell out of our country.”
Is it really the position of the New York Times that illegal immigrant gang members, drug dealers and criminals should be allowed to stay in the country? Is that a position the left wants to defend? According to one recent poll, nearly 70% of voters support the deportation of criminal aliens.

Here’s another example of fake news. Today’s Wall Street Journal has a story headlined, “Trump’s Approval At Historical Low.” According to the Journal’s latest poll, the president’s approval rating is 44% to 48%. In fairness, the story notes that Trump is the first post-World War II era president to have a negative approval rating at this stage of his presidency. (By the way, the poll was among adults, and not even voters.)

However, that didn’t have to be the story. The headline could have easily been, “Trump Hits Record High Rating.” A separate question finds his personal favorability rating is at 43% positive — a record high — and up from just 28% one year ago.

The DNC’s New Chairman

Obama Labor Secretary Tom Perez won a hotly contested race Saturday to become the new chairman of the Democrat National Committee. What made the race so interesting is that Perez was pitted against Rep. Keith Ellison, who has a very checkered history. Ellison is known for taking extreme positions (here and here ) and has associated with radical, anti-Semitic Nation of Islam leader, Louis Farrakhan.

Yet in spite of all the controversy, Ellison had the support of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and much of the party’s progressive wing. In the end, Perez, who is by no means a moderate, prevailed on a vote of 235-to-200.

And what was the first thing that Chairman Perez did to celebrate his victory? He immediately nominated Keith Ellison to serve as deputy chairman. Yesterday Perez said that he wanted to make Ellison “the face of the Democratic Party.”

By the way, the election was not without some controversy and a lot of irony. Interim chairman Donna Brazile switched the voting process at the last minute from an electronic ballot to paper ballots, supposedly due to concerns about weak WiFi signals. But Brazile also insisted that she wanted to be able to “verify every name and signature.”

If a Republican governor demanded such standards in an election, Brazile would be leading the charge against him, yelling about racism and voter suppression.

Disrupting Democracy

Town hall forums offer an excellent opportunity for voters to interact with their elected representatives in Congress. They are democracy in action. Unfortunately, many left-wing demonstrators are less interested in a fair exchange of ideas and simply want to disrupt the process. They want to create chaos so they can generate a false narrative to confuse voters.

Just consider the protests that erupted at Sen. Bill Cassidy’s town hall forum Wednesday night. Left-wing protestors repeatedly interrupted a prayer by Louisiana State chaplain Dr. Michael Sprague. Among other things, they yelled, “Prayer? Prayer?” and “Separation of church and state.” And if that wasn’t enough, many of the leftists in the room refused to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.

None of this made it into “mainstream media” reports. The “news” outlets want you to think that Republican members of Congress are having a very rough time at their town hall events. They want you to think that the GOP is increasingly unpopular. But the media won’t show you the real news — the left’s disrespect for faith and our country.

By the way, none of this is spontaneous. A local Louisiana radio station got ahold of an audio recording in which the left-wing organizers plotted their strategy to dominate another Cassidy town hall event later in the week. They even laughed at the idea that the “poor people of Breaux Bridge,” where the town hall event was held, might not get in because “Game plan number one” was to take up as many seats as possible.

Another Jewish Cemetery Vandalized

Five hundred grave stones were knocked over and broken at a Jewish cemetery in Philadelphia over the weekend. This comes just one week after a Jewish cemetery in Missouri was vandalized.

The desecration of any gravesite is a vile act of hate. In Jewish history it takes on an even darker meaning. All too often those who refuse to allow even dead Jews to rest in peace soon set out to kill living Jews to fill more graves.

When Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005, it not only evacuated all living Israelis, but it also evacuated the graves of Israeli Jews. The Israeli government took that dramatic step because it knew the remains would be desecrated.

When East Jerusalem was in the hands of Muslim Arabs from 1948 to 1967, 38,000 Jewish graves on the Mount of Olives were vandalized and grave stones were used to pave streets.

Anti-Semitism is the hatred that will not die. All people of goodwill must aggressively confront it.

Promises Kept

Last year, Donald Trump had a “scheduling conflict” and did not attend CPAC. Insiders say the campaign was concerned about the reception he would get. There were threats of protests and mass walkouts.

The media said skipping the event would kill his chances in the GOP primary. CPAC blasted Trump, saying that it was “very disappointed,” adding that his snub “sends a clear message to conservatives.”

The Trump campaign was more gracious. In a statement, the campaign said, “Mr. Trump . . . looks forward to returning to [CPAC] next year, hopefully as President of the United States.”

Promise kept. This morning, President Donald Trump addressed CPAC, and he received a tremendously warm welcome.

The president delivered a powerful, unapologetic, pro-America speech in which he defined his agenda, as well as the future of the Republican Party and the conservative movement. He needs to give this speech as often as he can. As much as Hollywood and the media mock Donald Trump, he is connecting with Middle America, just like Ronald Reagan did.

Below are some excerpts of the president’s CPAC address. You can watch it here.

“Our victory was a victory . . . for conservative values. For everyone who believes it is time to stand up for America, for the American worker and to stand up for the American flag. . . There is such love in this country for everything we stand for. You saw that on Election Day and you’re going to see it more and more. . .

“The core conviction of our movement is that we are nation that puts its own citizens first. For too long we have traded away our jobs to other countries. We have defend other nations’ borders while leaving ours wide open. . . We’ve spent trillions of dollars overseas while allowing our own infrastructure to fall into disrepair and decay. . . The era of empty talk is over. Now is the time for action. . .

“One by one, we’re checking off the promises we made to the American people. We will reduce your taxes, cut regulations, support our police, defend our flag. We will rebuild our military. We will take care of our great veterans. We will cut wasteful spending. We will promote our values. We will rebuild our inner cities. We will bring back our jobs and our dreams. . .

“Global cooperation, dealing with other countries, getting along with other countries is good. But there is no such thing as a global anthem, a global currency or a global flag. This is the United States of America that I am representing. I am not representing the globe. I am representing your country. . .

“No matter our background, income or geography, we are all citizens of this blessed land. No matter our color, [we bleed] the same red blood of great patriots. We all salute with pride the same American flag. We all are equal in the eyes of Almighty God. . . As long as we have faith in each other and trust in God then there is no goal beyond our reach. There is no dream too large, no task too great.

“We are Americans and the future belongs to us! America is coming back. . . God bless you and God bless the United States of America.”

Pence Urges Prayer & Action

Vice President Mike Pence spoke at CPAC last night. He gave a rousing speech, outlining the Trump Administration’s effort to defend the sanctity of life, repeal and replace Obamacare, stand with Israel and grow our economy. Pence told the conservative crowd that “this is our time.” But he also urged conservatives to guard against complacency. He urged them to action, saying:

“We must all of us rise to the challenge before us, tomorrow and every day thereafter. The other side is not sitting idle, and their allies in the media are more than willing to amplify their defense of the failed status quo every single day. . .

“We’ve got to mobilize. We’ve got to march forward, as if it’s the most important time in the history of our movement, because it is. . .

“So make your voices heard in town halls, with your family and your friends, on the Internet and social media, and all those places where commonsense conservative messages are most desperately needed, because this is our time.

“From this day forward, to make America great again, President Trump and I need every ounce of your energy and enthusiasm, your conviction, your courage, your passion. And we need one more thing, if you’re inclined. We need your prayers.”

The Chiefs Speak

White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon took the stage together at CPAC yesterday, and downplayed the media hype about power struggles and disagreements.

While Priebus comes from the party establishment and Bannon from the conservative movement, both emphasized the complimentary nature of their relationship, not competing interests. Priebus said, “I’ve got to tell you, if the party and the conservative movement are together — similar to Steve and I — it can’t be stopped.”

What really stood out to me in their remarks was an exchange about the media. Priebus expressed his hope that the news coverage of President Trump would get better, perhaps when the media’s liberal fever breaks with the passage of time. Bannon, I believe, was more realistic. Here’s how he put it:

“It’s not only not going to get better. It’s going to get worse every day. . . Here’s why it’s going to get worse: Because [Trump is] going to continue to press his agenda. . . If you think [the left is] going to give you your country back without a fight, you are sadly mistaken.

“Every day — every day — it is going to be a fight. And that is what I’m proudest about Donald Trump. All the opportunities he had to waiver; all the people who have come to him and said, ‘Oh, you’ve got to moderate.’ Every day in the Oval Office, he tells Reince and I, ‘I committed this to the American people; I promised this when I ran; and I’m going to deliver on this.'”

Return To Normal

Last year, school districts all across America received an unbelievable letter from the federal government. The Obama Education Department, citing federal Title IX prohibitions against sex discrimination in public education programs, threatened to withhold funding unless every school changed its policies to allow boys who claim to be girls to use girls’ bathrooms and locker rooms.

Needless to say, many parents, students and teachers were stunned by this bizarre demand, and rightly so. Title IX was created to stop discrimination against women and young girls.

It is hard to come up with a more distorted, ideologically-driven scenario than using a law meant to protect little girls to force them to share bathrooms with boys. According to one study, fewer than 1% of school children claim to be transgender. But the radicals in the Obama Administration were forcing their agenda on the other 99% of students.

Regrettably, a number of school districts caved to the pressure. When angry parents showed up to protest, local officials either shrugged, saying they couldn’t afford to lose the federal dollars, or they accused concerned mothers and fathers of bigotry. Thankfully, more than a dozen states sued and the radical order was blocked by a federal judge.

Yesterday, the Trump Administration withdrew the Obama bathroom mandate. The Trump Administration simply returned us to normal, telling schools that there is no federal bathroom policy and it is up to local districts to handle the issue as they see fit.

Until six months ago, it was unimaginable that anyone would think that having boys in the girls’ room was reasonable or acceptable. The only people who supported Obama were Hollywood elites.

But today, when President Trump says it’s up to parents and local schools to decide who uses what bathrooms, Democrats, who are all in on this radical agenda, denounce him as an extremist.

The left, which claims to be all about tolerance, needs to find some tolerance for the values of the vast majority of Americans. I won’t hold my breath waiting.

Anti-Semitism In America

Last weekend, nearly 200 Jewish graves in the Chesed Shel Emeth Society Cemetery in University Park, Missouri, were desecrated. Sadly, the desecration of Jewish graves has a long and disturbing history. When anti-Semites attack the graves of dead Jews, it’s usually not long before anti-Semites start attacking Jews who are alive.

Vice President Mike Pence flew to Missouri yesterday and visited Chesed Shel Emeth Society Cemetery. Along with Governor Eric Greitens, Pence rolled up his sleeves and helped to clean up the cemetery. The vice president told workers:

“There is no place in America for hatred or acts of prejudice or violence or anti-Semitism. I must tell you, the people of Missouri are inspiring the nation by your love and care for this place, for the Jewish community in Missouri, and I want to thank you for that inspiration, for showing the world what America’s really all about. On behalf of the President of the United States, let me just say thank you to all of you for coming out and showing the heart of this state and the heart of this nation in this place. You just make us all proud. God bless you all.”
Steven Goldman of the Anne Frank Center responded to Pence’s actions, saying, “Today, Vice President Pence proved to be the ultimate mensch by visiting, and even cleaning, the desecrated Jewish graves in St. Louis.”

Goldman, who had been critical of President Trump, added, “This administration finally showed America the kind of response our nation was waiting for all along — a response filled with proactive heart.”

Divided & Unhinged

Just a few months ago, the media couldn’t stop talking about how divided the Republican Party was. “Demography was destiny,” Democrats said. The “rising electorate” of young liberal Millennials and the “browning of America” meant that they just couldn’t lose in 2016.

Hillary was measuring the drapes in the Oval Office, and the pundits told us over and over that the conservative movement was cracking up. 2017, they said, would be a year of sorrow, introspection and rebuilding for the GOP — if it survived at all.

What a difference a day makes! That would be Election Day, November 8th.

When Donald Trump proved the conventional wisdom and talking heads wrong, it was the Democrat Party, not the GOP, that suddenly faced an existential crisis. That crisis took center stage last night as eight Democrats competing for the chairmanship of their party debated on CNN.

Even that liberal network couldn’t paper over the left’s deep fissures. Consider this headline: “Democratic Divisions On Display At DNC Debate.”

Incredibly, a major topic at the debate was impeaching President Donald Trump, who has only been in office for 34 days. Rep. Keith Ellison, the front-runner to become DNC chairman, staked out the most extreme position. Last night, Ellison declared:

“I think that Donald Trump has already done a number of things which legitimately raise the question of impeachment. . . It’s about the integrity of the presidency. So yeah, I think we need to begin investigations . . . to protect our Constitution and the presidency of the United States.”
Democrats are becoming seriously unhinged, and their vehemence is turning off voters.

Earlier this week I told you about a poll which found that only 27 percent of voters want Democrats “to resist Trump’s every move.” Even a majority of self-identified Democrats (52%) say they should work with Trump whenever possible.

A new poll finds that the left’s violent protests and over-the-top reactions to everything and anything Trump does are backfiring. For example:

  • 70% of voters disapprove of George Soros funding left-wing protests against President Trump and the violent demonstrations against conservative speakers on college campuses. Even 51% of liberals disapprove.
  • 62% of voters, including 44% of Democrats and 55% of Hispancis, disapprove of protests “to stop the deportation of illegal aliens who have been convicted of serious crimes.”

Rather than following the radical left off a cliff, Democrats should slam on the brakes and think twice about the course they are on. As two moderate think tank experts noted in a recent Washington Post op-ed, Democrats have been out-of-touch with voters for some time:

“Since the halcyon days of 2009, Democrats have lost one-fifth of their Senate seats, one-quarter of their House seats, nearly half of their governors and more than half of the state legislative bodies they once controlled. The Trump win was the final, not the first, indignity.”

Trump Enforces The Law

Yesterday, Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly issued two orders effectively removing Obama-era restrictions on our immigration enforcement and Border Patrol officers. The first order called for federal agencies to begin “expeditiously” hiring 10,000 Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and 5,000 new Border Patrol agents.

It also restarted a program that allows qualified local law enforcement officers to assist with federal immigration enforcement. That program was suspended by the Obama Administration.

The second order establishes priorities for deporting illegal immigrants. For example:

  • Illegal immigrants who have been convicted of any criminal offense.
  • Those who have been charged with any criminal offense.
  • Those who have engaged in fraud or willful misrepresentation.
  • Those who have abused public benefits.
  • Those who have not complied with prior deportation orders.
  • Those who “otherwise pose a risk to public safety or national security.”

Further underscoring the change of focus, the Department of Homeland Security is shutting down advocacy programs for illegal immigrants and is redirecting those resources to provide support to the victims of crimes committed by illegal immigrants. It is unbelievable that DHS has to do this at all, but I am thankful that this administration has the courage to do it!

Predictably, the open borders crowd — the ACLU, various left-wing activists, big media and many Democrat politicians — are howling in protest. But here’s a reality check: This is all current law and has been the law of the United States for decades.

The outrage occurred when Barack Obama, who swore to uphold the law, perverted the idea of “prosecutorial discretion” to ignore large portions of immigration law and effectively grant mass amnesty.

President Trump has said that his administration would start enforcing our immigration laws again and he is doing it!

If Democrats don’t like what President Trump is doing, Senate Majority Leader McConnell should put each of those enforcement priorities on the Senate floor for a vote. Let’s find out exactly what it is that Chuck Schumer and Elizabeth Warren don’t like.

Do Democrats object to deporting illegal immigrant convicted criminals? Do they object to deporting illegal immigrants who have lied to the government, stolen someone’s ID or abused public welfare programs?

This could be very educational for the American people!

By the way, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly are in Mexico today. I suspect border security will be a key item on the agenda in talks with Mexican officials.

Unfortunately, reports suggest our “friends” to the south are not feeling very cooperative. Mexico’s foreign minister said his country rejects “unilateral” U.S. immigration proposals. When did we start asking Mexico’s to approve our immigration policies? In addition, Mexican officials are vowing to “defend immigrants” against Trump’s new policies at the United Nations.

Go ahead, make my day! I am willing to have that fight. Either we are a sovereign country with clear borders that we defend and protect or we are not a not a free nation at all.

    Taking On Sanctuary Cities

Last week, Estivan Velasquez, a 19 year-old illegal immigrant and MS-13 gang member, walked out of a New York City jail after serving a five-month prison sentence. Federal officials had asked the city to detain Velasquez, but city officials refused to honor the request due to Mayor Bill de Blasio’s sanctuary city policies. Thankfully, immigration agents were able to find and arrest Velasquez themselves.

Incredibly, Mayor de Blasio blasted the federal government. Other local officials are now demanding that New York City police officers stop arresting criminals if they may be subject to deportation.

That should be the only issue in New York City’s next campaign. Every citizen and legal resident of New York City — Haitian, German, Puerto Rican whatever — should be outraged with public officials who refuse to arrest illegal immigrants who commit crimes.

When it comes to taking on sanctuary cities, the public is solidly behind President Trump. A new poll by Harvard University finds that 80% of voters oppose sanctuary city policies.

The same poll also found strong support for other measures President Trump has taken lately. For example, 56% of voters support the president’s order pausing immigration from the seven countries on the terrorism watch list and 53% support the 120-day pause on refugees.

    A Two For One Deal

A group of anti-Trump protestors yesterday hung a large banner on the Statue of Liberty that read “Refugees Welcome.” Given the genocide that is taking place against Christians in the Middle East, and the latest threat by ISIS to eradicate Christians in Egypt, I’ve got an idea for bringing in more refugees.

Modeling my idea on President Trump’s order that for every new regulation issued two existing ones must be repealed, here’s what I suggest: For every Christian refugee we take who is fleeing Islamic religious persecution, let’s send two liberals to the country of their choice — France, Cuba, Venezuela, wherever.

And I suggest we start with these two radicals (here and here) who were recently interviewed by Tucker Carlson!

    The Real Hacking Story

We’ve heard a lot (probably too much) about alleged Russian hacking of the Democrat National Committee and other liberal figures. But I’ve been waiting for another hacking story to break in the mainstream media. So far, it has gone largely unnoticed. But the details expose the media’s outrageous left-wing bias.

Several weeks ago, three Pakistani brothers who did computer work for multiple House Democrat offices were fired. A criminal investigation, involving at least five people, is currently underway, but reports suggest that they accessed the computer files of members of Congress and perhaps even the House Intelligence Committee.

Today there is news — not from the mainstream media, but the conservative Daily Caller — that the “Congressional aides suspected of criminally misusing their access to House computer systems owed $100,000 to an Iraqi politician who is wanted by U.S. authorities and has been linked to Hezbollah.”

Now doesn’t this sound like a really juicy story that most enterprising journalists would eagerly dig into? You’d think so. Except this one involving Democrats and Pakistanis and Hezbollah doesn’t fit the left-wing narrative or easily lend itself to Trump-bashing!

    Kudos To Autumn

Trump’s Hero Security Advisor

When retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn was dismissed as President Trump’s national security adviser, the media mocked the White House for its chaos and the reluctance of others to accept a job in the Trump administration. Seven days later, the president has a new national security adviser, Lt. Gen. H. R. McMaster, and the media’s mockery has been silenced.

In fact, the Washington Post describes Lt. Gen. McMaster as “a widely respected and fiercely outspoken military strategist who was recognized for his battlefield leadership.”

McMaster is a soldier’s soldier. He wrote a book on Vietnam called Dereliction of Duty about the failure of military leaders to tell presidents that we were not fighting to win. In Desert Storm, he led a group of 12 tanks into battle against the Iraqi Republican Guard. He destroyed more than 70 enemy vehicles, including 28 tanks.

In the second Gulf War, McMaster pioneered the aggressive strategy of “clear, hold and build” that Gen. David Petraeus implemented to subdue sectarian violence in Iraq. While others argued for U.S. forces to step back, McMaster pushed back, saying, “It’s unclear to me how a higher degree of passivity would advance our mission.”

The First Lady’s Prayer

President Trump held a massive rally in Melbourne, Florida over the weekend. According to local police reports, 9,000 people packed the venue. Trump worked the crowd as only he can. And the media distorted the rally as only the media can.

A controversy erupted as soon as the event began. First Lady Melania Trump had the audacity to recite the Lord’s Prayer at the beginning of the rally. Agitated atheists accused the first lady of forcing her religion on everyone and violating the so-called “separation of church and state.” (Tell me atheists, where is that phrase found in the Constitution?)

No one was forced to attend or even watch the rally. But the left is aggressively secular and anti-religion, ironically except for one religion — radical Islam, which is at war with Western Civilization. Sadly, that is why part of the left embraces Islam — it sees it as a partner in the same fight.

Trump & Sweden

Of course, another controversy emerged from Saturday’s event. While talking about the dangers of radical Islam in Europe, President Trump cited Sweden, which has a Muslim refugee crime problem, in addition to a list of terror attacks in other European countries. The media immediately tried to distort the president’s remarks by suggesting that Trump said there had been a terrorist attack in Sweden.

When the prime minister of Sweden asked for a clarification about what Trump meant, the White House said the president was referring to a refugee crime wave, but the prime minister downplayed the problem, saying, “We have opportunities, we have challenges, we’re working (on) them every day. But I think also we must all take responsibility for using facts correctly.”

Last night a massive riot broke out in a largely immigrant, heavily Muslim suburb of Stockholm. An Australian news crew was attacked in the same area last year.

Maybe the prime minister of Sweden and feckless media should worry less about Donald Trump’s syntax and start worrying about the threat from radical Islam.

Trump Denounces Anti-Semitism

Eleven Jewish community centers in eleven states were shut down yesterday after yet another wave of bomb threats were called in. This marks the fourth time this year that Jewish community centers have been targeted for such vile harassment. More than 50 centers in 27 states have been terrorized by these calls in recent weeks.

While the calls have been hoaxes, they reveal a disturbing level of anti-Semitism. Moreover, they are extraordinarily disruptive to the centers, the local communities and the people who rely on the services they provide. In addition, more than 100 tombstones were vandalized at a Jewish cemetery in Missouri over the weekend.

This morning, President Trump toured the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Accompanying the president on the tour were Dr. Ben Carson and Alveda King, niece of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. After the tour, President Trump denounced the bomb threats against Jewish community centers and vowed to fight intolerance in America. The president said:

“This tour was a meaningful reminder of why we have to fight bigotry, intolerance and hatred in all of its very ugly forms. The anti-Semitic threats targeting our Jewish community and community centers are horrible and are a painful and a very sad reminder of the work that still must be done to root out hate and prejudice and evil. . . We’re going to bring this country together. We have a divided country that’s been divided for many, many years, but we’re going to bring it together.”

Other Headlines

  • Sadly, another police officer paid with his life because of our failed criminal justice system. Officer Keith Boyer of the Whittier, California, Police Department, was shot and killed yesterday during a shootout with a recently released gang member. A second officer was injured in the attack. Whittier Police Chief Jeff Piper blamed liberal California laws for Officer Boyer’s death.
  • I have admired the willingness of Milo Yiannopoulos to go onto university campuses and expose left-wing intolerance. Unfortunately, during a recently revealed online interview, he appeared to justify adult male sexual relationships with teenage boys.

When news of these comments broke, Yiannopoulos was disinvited from speaking at a major conservative conference and his book deal was cancelled. (Ironically, if Milo was publicly arguing for such relationships most university progressives would celebrate his alternative lifestyle.) This morning, Yiannopoulos also resigned as an editor of Breitbart Tech.

I realize we live a culture with “evolving standards of decency,” but sexual relations with minor children must never be normalized. While Yiannopoulos has apologized for his comments, he should not be welcome in a conservative movement which understands that only a virtuous people can remain free.

  • A new poll shows just how out of touch the Democrat leadership and the far-left activist fringe have become. Nearly three-quarters of voters (73%) expect Democrats to work WITH President Trump, not against him. According to The Hill, “only 27 percent said Democrats should resist Trump’s every move.” Even a majority of self-identified Democrats (52%) say they should work with Trump whenever possible.
  • While the country was marking Washington’s Birthday, historical sites in Washington, D.C., including the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument and the World War II Memorial, were defaced. I think it is a safe bet that whoever did this isn’t someone who believes we should make America great again. Given what our universities are teaching about our founding fathers, that they were slavers and oppressors, I am surprised this isn’t a daily occurrence.

End Of Day Report

Trump’s Prediction

During yesterday’s White House press conference, President Trump berated the media for its dishonesty and hateful tone. He spoke for nearly 80 minutes and covered a wide range of topics. He also predicted that the media would grossly distort the press conference.

The president said, “Tomorrow they will say ‘Donald Trump rants and raves.’ I’m not ranting and raving.”

Well, guess what? He was right! And the reaction was immediate.

Shepard Smith of Fox News said, “It is crazy what we are watching every day, it is absolutely crazy.” CNN’s Jake Tapper called the press conference “wild” and “unhinged.” NBC’s Chuck Todd whined that Trump’s press bashing is “un-American.”

That’s odd. I don’t remember this kind of media outrage when Obama repeatedly attacked Fox News or bugged reporters’ phones.

CBS News ran an “exaggeration check” during last night’s broadcast. So now we’ve gone from fact checks to exaggeration checks. I suppose that could be helpful. We wouldn’t want a president to claim that he was going to stop the rise of the oceans and heal the planet. . . Oh, wait! That’s what Obama did. Still waiting for the CBS “exaggeration check” on that one.

Nevertheless, a few commentators did admit that yesterday’s press conference played very well in Trump’s America, and, let’s face it, that’s pretty much everywhere between New York City and Los Angeles!

Tomorrow, President Trump is going to hold a rally in Melbourne, Florida. The press would love nothing more than to say that the crowd was noticeably smaller than during the campaign. To our friends in Florida: The president needs a big turnout. If you can make it, please go! But you must register online.

More Fake News

Did you hear about the latest “victim” of the Trump immigration raids? That individual checked all the left-wing boxes — minority, undocumented, abuse victim, even transgendered. Needless to say, the case made headlines everywhere. Here’s one example, “ICE Arrests Domestic Violence Victim at Texas Courthouse.”

Terribly cruel of the Trump Administration, right? That’s certainly what the left and its media allies want you to believe.

But the headline is grossly misleading. Buried deep in the reports, if it was mentioned at all, is the fact that this “victim” has a lengthy criminal record for “assault, probation violation, domestic violence, false imprisonment of a minor.” Oh, and he/she has already been deported six times!

Is this the face of left-wing progressivism now? Forget the coal miner. Forget our veterans. Forget struggling middle class families. Forget black children trapped in gang-infested, failing schools. The left will fight to the death for transgendered illegal immigrant criminals!

Progress Report

Late yesterday afternoon, the House of Representatives approved a resolution reversing a radical pro-abortion regulation by the Obama Administration. Drafted during his final days in office, Barack Obama issued a regulation that effectively forced states to provide funds to Planned Parenthood.

After more than a dozen states took steps to cut off taxpayer funding to the nation’s largest abortion business, the Obama White House stepped in and stepped on the separation of powers between the states and the federal government.

I am pleased to report that the GOP-led House did not hesitate to use its authority under the Congressional Review Act to repeal Obama’s outrageous pro-abortion mandate. The resolution, authored by Rep. Diane Black (R-TN), must now be approved by the Senate. Thankfully, it is not subject to a filibuster.

Speaking of the Congressional Review Act, President Trump yesterday signed a law repealing another Obama regulation that devastated the coal industry. Joining the president at the signing ceremony were senators from various coal states, including Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), along with coal workers and company executives.

What many liberals do not appreciate is just how crucial the coal industry is. Not only does coal provide a leading source of electricity for the country, but in some areas it is the leading, perhaps only, industry as well. When coal jobs in those areas are lost, everything else suffers too.

By the way, it was reported today that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has begun “cleaning house” at the State Department. Several staffers on the building’s top floor — where senior-level managers work — were fired yesterday.

Poll Position

Here are some recent poll results you may have missed. For all the media’s hyperbolic criticism, President Trump is holding his own.

  • 55% of likely voters approve of President Trump’s job performance.
  • 54% of likely voters believe that policies which allow an increasing number of immigrants and refugees from predominantly Muslim nations, some of which are failed states, represent an increased risk to the national security of the United States. Just 33% of voters disagree. In other words, President Trump’s much-derided executive order, which left-wing judges blocked, is a 21-point winning issue for the president.
  • Are you ready for 2020? Well, the left just can’t wait. And it is already conducting polls pitting its favorite candidate — Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) — against President Trump.

Warren is the obvious choice — the perfect combination of Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. With Warren you get both socialist policies and gender identity politics! But the left might have to reconsider. According to a poll released Wednesday, Trump would defeat Warren 42%-to-36%.
