New Sheriff In Town

Once again, Donald Trump proved that there is a new sheriff in town. Last night he fired Acting Attorney General Sally Yates, an Obama loyalist. Yates refused to defend President Trump’s order imposing a temporary immigration moratorium on seven countries infected by radical Islamic terrorism.

President Trump promptly replaced Ms. Yates with Dana Boente, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, who has promised to defend the president’s immigration order. Mr. Boente will run the Justice Department until the Senate confirms Jeff Sessions, which I hope will happen this week.

President Trump did the right thing in firing Yates. Even liberal Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz agrees. “This is holdover heroism,” Dershowitz said of Yates. “It’s so easy to be a heroine when you’re not appointed by this president and when you’re on the other side. She made a serious mistake.”

But here’s a disturbing thought: In many government agencies like the EPA and the State Department, former President Barack Obama has more control over the bureaucracy out of office than President Donald Trump has sitting in the Oval Office. That is intolerable.

Bad Comparison

In his most recent Sunday sermon, the “Reverend” Al Sharpton compared Jesus to the Muslim refugees from Syria, Yemen, Libya, etc. Whatever institution issued “Reverend” Al’s theology degree should demand its return.

In the very narrow sense that Jesus and his parents were refugees, Sharpton has a point. But there is a larger one he seems to miss. Mary, Joseph and Jesus, in addition to being the first family of Christendom, were Jews. You do remember the Jews, Rev. Sharpton? They are hated by large swaths of the Muslim world.

If the Jews of Israel laid down their weapons tomorrow, the Jews of Israel would be dead by the end of the week. Donald Trump is trying to make sure that we are not importing the anti-Semitic, fascist jihadists who are running rampant in the countries covered by his order. Get it, Al?

Here’s some more left-wing lunacy. On “Face The Nation” this weekend, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) asked, “If they can ban Muslims, why can’t they ban Mormons?”

Well, Rep. Ellison, it’s really not that difficult. Mormons aren’t trying to kill us! Neither are Presbyterians or Hindus or Mennonites or Buddhists.

He’s Back!

George W. Bush waited seven years to critique his successor. Barack Obama barely waited seven days to critique his.

Yesterday afternoon, a spokesman for the former president praised the action over the weekend in defense of “American values.” What was that action? Mini riots at major airports that jeopardized the safety of Americans. He may be out of office, but Obama is still trying to wreck the country.

By the way, did you hear about the refugees fleeing terror that the president sent back to their oppressors? I’m talking about the Cubans who arrived in Miami only to be sent back to the brutal Castro regime as part of Barack Obama’s appeasement of communist Cuba. Where were the mobs and the reporters speaking up for those refugees?

Tears Of A Clown

Earlier this month, President Trump referred to Charles Schumer as the “head clown” of the Democrat Party. I noticed that Senator Schumer shed a tear this weekend over inconvenienced Sudanese, Yemenis and Libyans.

I shed a tear this morning too as more information came out about Navy SEAL William “Ryan” Owens. The Peoria, Illinois, native was killed this week during an attack on an Al-Qaeda stronghold in Yemen. More than a dozen terrorists were killed, including “three senior Al Qaeda leaders.”

Chief Petty Officer Owens was going after the people who President Trump and Vice President Pence are diligently trying to keep out of our country. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family. You can read President Trump’s statement here.

By the way, not that long ago, Sen. Schumer thought an immigration pause “may be necessary.” Yet now that Donald Trump is proposing it, Schumer is denouncing the idea as “mean-spirited and un-American.”

The Empathy Gap

Am I the only one noticing something strange about the reaction of the radical left and progressives in the last 72 hours to the president’s national security order? Its purpose is to ensure that we keep out hidden ISIS soldiers and other jihadis.

It affects seven countries that are significant terrorist breeding grounds, places like Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. The result of the president’s pause in refugees and immigrants from these nations caused slightly more than 100 people to be detained at airports, but they were quickly released after their paperwork was examined.

What was the reaction of the progressive left? Virtual riots at airports. Wailing protestors. A key top congressional leader reduced to tears. Charges of fascism.

Here’s what I find odd about all of this. In recent years, Americans have been brutally murdered by jihadists in San Bernardino, Orlando, at Ohio State University, at the Boston Marathon, at Fort Hood, in Little Rock, Chattanooga and New York City. Around the world, there have been regular massacres and beheadings of Christians, religious minorities and allies of the United States.

In each case, the families of the victims wept and called for tougher action against the Islamic fascists who carried out such atrocities. But the progressive left largely kept quiet, except to warn us not to blame other Muslims.

I don’t recall senators weeping at the news that Americans were murdered in a night club or at a Christmas party. I don’t recall seeing riotous crowds demanding serious action by our government to combat this evil when our soldiers were gunned down at their bases.

How is it that the progressive left feels more outrage for the inconvenienced Yemenis than for the brave men and women at Fort Hood, for the fallen runners in Boston, for the young men and women mowed down in Orlando? How many more Americans must die before the left decides to act against (or even utter the phrase) “radical Islamic terrorism”?

Of Supreme Importance

President Trump is expected to announce his Supreme Court nominee tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET. Insiders generally agree that the choice is between two appellate court judges — Neil Gorsuch and Thomas Hardiman. CNN reports that both men will be in Washington, D.C., tonight. However, sources involved in the process say, “a last minute deviation is well within the realm of possibility.”

We will have a full analysis of the president’s nominee in tomorrow’s “End of Day.”

March For Life

Today hundreds of thousands of people came to Washington, D.C., to stand for the sanctity of life. No cars were burned. No windows were smashed. No garbage was burned in the streets. No innocent bystanders were assaulted by the marchers. No police officers were sent to the hospital.

This was a peaceful demonstration led by men and women of faith who are here to defend innocent human life. The annual March for Life is always one of the highlights of the year.

This march has faithfully taken place every year since the Supreme Court’s tragic Roe v. Wade decision was announced in 1973.

Some people might think the issue would fade and go away. After all, the Supreme Court “settled” it 44 years ago. But this issue won’t go away. It is fundamental to defining the values of our country.

Our Founding Fathers boldly stated in the Declaration of Independence that we were endowed with the inalienable right to life. That right comes from God, not from any government or court.

We fought a brutal civil war to end the scourge of slavery and uphold the dignity of life. But Roe v. Wade is based upon the same flawed premise as Dred Scott and slavery — that some humans are not “people” with rights we are obligated to respect. The Supreme Court was wrong in Dred Scott and it was wrong in Roe too.

And because men and women, young and old, still march year after year, I know the day will come when Roe v. Wade will be seen for the travesty it is. I know the day is coming when every innocent child will be welcomed into the world and protected by the law.

This Year Is Different

I am pleased to say that this year’s march is very different, especially from more recent marches. Even in previous Republican administrations, pro-life advocates had to lobby to get White House leadership involved in the March for Life.

I don’t think that any lobbying was required this time. Early on it was announced that senior advisor Kellyanne Conway would speak. Vice President Mike Pence attended today’s march — a historic first.

I know Mike Pence. He has been unambiguously pro-life his entire career. It would be unimaginable in his own mind to avoid the pro-life movement now that he is vice president of the United States.

Last night, Vice President Pence held a reception for pro-life leaders. (I was invited to attend, but regrettably was traveling back to Washington from Texas.) In addition, President Trump called out the media for not covering the march.

At a press conference Monday, Press Secretary Sean Spicer said that President Trump is “going to stand up and value life — born or unborn. . . he’s going to stand up and protect life, promote it, and instill policies that promote life [and] promote adoption.”

My point is this: The pro-life movement has real friends and true champions in this administration.

I understand that the life issue doesn’t necessarily move every conservative. But conservatives should be excited about what we have seen in the past week. When this White House takes a position, whatever the issue, it goes all in. It wants to move public opinion.

That “fight” is what has been missing for so long! Governing is not about sticking your finger in the wind. It is about changing the direction of our country.

Pence Praises Pro-life Movement

Vice President Mike Pence became the first vice president of the United States to address the March for Life in person. He expressed what an honor it was for him to be there, and he told the crowd, “President Trump actually asked me to be here with you today. He asked me to thank you for your support, your stand for life and your compassion for the women and children of America.”

The vice president praised the marchers, telling them that because of their compassion and commitment, “life is winning again in America.” (See next item.) He also reassured the marchers that President Trump would continue keeping his promises to the pro-life community. Here is an excerpt of his remarks:

“From his first day in office, [President Trump] has been keeping his promises to the American people. That’s why on Monday President Trump reinstated the Mexico City Policy. That’s why this administration will work with the Congress to end taxpayer funding of abortion and abortion providers. . . And that’s why next week, President Donald Trump will announce a Supreme Court nominee who will uphold the God-given rights enshrined in our Constitution in the tradition of the late, great Antonin Scalia. . .

“Be assured, along with you, we will not grow weary. We will not rest until we restore a culture of life in America, for ourselves and for our posterity.”

Pro-Life America

A Marist poll released this week found strong support for significant pro-life initiatives. For example:

  • Only 16% of Americans support abortion on demand at any time in all nine months of pregnancy, which is essentially the current law of the land under Roe v. Wade.
  • 59% of Americans support banning late-term abortions, those performed after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
  • 60% of Americans do not believe that medical professionals should be forced to perform abortions if they have moral objections to the procedure.
  • 61% of Americans oppose using taxpayer money to pay for abortions in the United States.
  • 74% of Americans support serious limits on abortion, including 54% of those who identify as “pro-choice.”
  • 83% of Americans oppose using taxpayer money to pay for abortions overseas.

You can read more about the poll here.

    Personal Note

These poll results are certainly encouraging. But as Vice President Pence said today, it didn’t just happen. From parents and pastors to volunteers at pregnancy centers and campaigns, it takes tremendous effort by many dedicated people working in a variety of ways. And this work must continue!

I can’t tell you how excited I am about the opportunities we have going forward. But we know the battle is far from over. The challenges are enormous. The stakes couldn’t be greater, and the left has never been more desperate.

On this symbolic day, I pray you will rededicate yourself to the cause of life. There is no better way to make America great again than fulfilling the promise of our Declaration of Independence and restoring the right to life.

Please stand with me right now.

If you choose not to support our efforts to elect more pro-life conservatives to public office, I encourage you to make a donation to your local pregnancy resource center.

    Thank you!

The Left Reacts

As expected the left is reacting furiously to yesterday’s announcements by President Trump that we are taking control of our borders and enforcing our immigration laws. Just consider this headline from Politico: “Democrats Launch Scorched-earth Strategy Against Trump.”

The article goes on to state that Democrats have “settled on a scorched-earth, not-now-not-ever model of opposition. . . Democrats have opted for a hard-line, give-no-quarter posture, a reflection of a seething base that will have it no other way.”

My friends, it would have been nice to have been wrong this time. But I have repeatedly warned since the election that the left would not accept Trump’s presidency and would do everything it could to delegitimize and destroy him. That is why it is so important that you continue to support our work — so we can fight back!

It is amusing watching liberal mayors and state officials suddenly defending “local control” and “federalism.”

Where were these champions of local control last year when the Obama Administration tried to rewrite school bathroom policies coast-to-coast?

Where were these advocates of states’ rights when liberal federal judges imposed a radical redefinition of marriage against the will of the voters in 30 states?

During a press conference yesterday, Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser reiterated her plans to ensure that the nation’s capital remains a sanctuary city.

“Our message, of course, is always that we want D.C. residents, to not fear calling on their government for help,” Bowser said. “When people fear calling on the police for help, it makes the entire city less safe.”

I appreciate that the mayor recognizes the importance of public safety. The primary obligation of government is to protect its citizens, Madame Mayor. And the Washington, D.C., region has a major problem with illegal immigrant gangs.

Cities do not have the right to ignore federal law. Moreover, a significant percentage of crime is connected to illegal immigration. And part of Trump’s executive order requires the government to be more transparent about that connection.

According to one report, nearly 20,000 illegal immigrants committed roughly 64,000 crimes, including “12,307 drunken driving convictions, 1,728 cases of assault, 216 kidnappings and more than 200 homicide or manslaughter convictions.”

The left tolerates this in the name of “compassion.” But where is the compassion for the victims? Where is the compassion for hard-working taxpayers?

Mexico Responds

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto cancelled a planned meeting with President Trump next week, and again vowed that Mexico would never pay for a border wall. Trump shrugged it off, tweeting, “If Mexico is unwilling to pay for the badly needed wall, then it would be better to cancel the upcoming meeting.”

President Trump isn’t going to delay construction of the wall waiting for Mexico to pay up. But there are plenty of ways to make Mexico pay.

As President Trump has noted, most of Mexico’s exports come to the United States. We hold all the cards here, and an import tariff is one way to pay for the wall.

Economist Stephen Moore has suggested a “user fee” as another option. Charge people crossing the border a fee to pay for the wall.

Here’s another idea: Tax the remittances (money sent to Mexico) by immigrants in this country. It has been estimated that Mexico received more than $20 billion in remittances last year, the vast majority of it was sent by illegal immigrants.

By the way, let’s not forget that Congress passed the Secure Fence of 2006, but never fully funded it. For all the hysteria about “Trump’s wall,” more than two dozen Senate Democrats voted for the Secure Fence Act, including Senate Democrat Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY), as well as then-Senators Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton.

Here’s the bottom line: The status quo is unacceptable, and there are ways to get things done. All that was lacking was the will to act. Thankfully, the voters solved that problem on November 8th!

Is The U.N. Next?

The New York Times reports that the Trump Administration may be taking aim at the United Nations, drafting executive orders “to drastically reduce the United States’ role in the United Nations and other international organizations.”

Among the ideas under consideration: “terminating funding for any United Nations agency” that grants “full membership to the Palestinian Authority or Palestine Liberation Organization, or support programs that fund abortion or any activity that circumvents sanctions against Iran or North Korea.” The order also targets organizations that sponsor terrorism or engage in human rights abuses.

The White House is reportedly seeking a major reduction in funding, perhaps as much as 40%, to international organizations which, among other things, “oppose important United States policies.”

How long have conservatives railed against foreign aid to international organizations and countries that oppose us? Finally we have a president who is putting America first!

Refugee Reform

There are also reports that the Trump Administration is getting ready to suspend visas from several nations known to be hotbeds of radical Islamic extremism. President Trump also wants to reform our refugee program and institute a process of “extreme vetting.”

No doubt the left and its media allies will denounce the move as an example of bigotry. But a disturbing report from the Los Angeles Times explains why this is nothing more than just common sense. Consider this excerpt:

“Federal agents are reinvestigating the backgrounds of dozens of Syrian refugees already in the United States after discovering a lapse in vetting that allowed some who had potentially negative information in their files to enter the country. . . At a minimum, the intelligence would have triggered further investigation that could have led some asylum applications to be rejected.”
Among the cases being reviewed are a refugee who “failed a polygraph test when he applied to work at a U.S. military installation” and another believed to be in contact with an ISIS leader.

A Big Day!

Last night, President Trump tweeted, “Big day planned on NATIONAL SECURITY tomorrow. Among many other things, we will build the wall!” Today he followed through with two executives orders.

The first authorizes the construction of a wall along the Mexican border. The second directs the federal government to terminate grants to sanctuary cities, a move the vast majority of Americans support.

Some have said that building a wall is impractical, if not impossible. Are we a superpower or not? Do we have the will to defend our borders or not?

The Saudis have a border wall. The Israelis have a great security fence. If the Chinese could build a great wall hundreds of years ago to defend their border, I think we can too.

In the days ahead, President Trump is also expected to sign additional executive orders calling for a system of “extreme vetting” for refugees and suspending visas from several nations known to be hotbeds of radical Islamic terrorism.

President Trump continues shaking up Washington. It is tremendously encouraging to see him acting so boldly!

Investigating Voter Fraud

In recent days, President Trump got the media talking about voter fraud. Of course, the liberal media largely parrot the talking points of the left and completely dismiss the issue.

But now that he has the media’s attention, President Trump has called for a “major investigation” into voter fraud. And why wouldn’t he?

The left is making a big deal about the popular vote. It routinely mocks concerns about the integrity of our elections and yet fights popular initiatives like voter ID laws. Meanwhile, it is up to its eyeballs in irregular activities. Remember ACORN?

Donald Trump is president. It is his Justice Department (or will be as soon as Sen. Jeff Sessions is confirmed.) So I applaud this announcement. There are legitimate reasons to be concerned, and they have nothing to do with Russian hackers!

As the Heritage Foundation has noted, a 2014 study found that an “estimated 6.4 percent of noncitizens voted illegally in the 2008 presidential election.” In addition, a 2013 poll found that “13 percent of noncitizen respondents admitted they were registered to vote.” And left-wing states like California are enabling such illegal activity.

Another Big Announcement

This morning, President Trump announced that he will name a Supreme Court nominee next Thursday, February 2nd, to fill the vacant seat of Justice Antonin Scalia. This will be one of the most consequential decisions President Trump makes, and I thank God that it is President Trump making it, not President Hillary Clinton.

By the way, I know Sen. Mitch McConnell is unlikely to win a popularity contest among grassroots conservative activists. But we should acknowledge the tremendous favor he did for the conservative movement in keeping Scalia’s seat open for the new president and not allowing Barack Obama to cement a left-wing majority on the high court. Thank you, Sen. McConnell!

Having said that, the burden now rests with the Trump/Pence White House to get this right. Once again, Democrats are vowing to block any nominee who does not meet the liberal litmus tests of the ACLU, Planned Parenthood and Chuck Schumer.

President Trump produced a list of potential nominees during the campaign. There are many good names on the list. But as people delve into their backgrounds, various conservatives are raising questions about some of them.

One way for President Trump to hit a grand slam home run might be to continue doing things differently and nominate Utah Sen. Mike Lee. While Lee was not a Trump fan, he is solidly conservative and his Senate seat would be safe. Schumer and other liberal senators would likely oppose him due to his ideological views, but I think it would be very hard from them to smear Sen. Lee.

House Makes Hyde Permanent

For 40 years, Republicans and Democrats in Congress have been able to agree on one thing: Taxpayer dollars should not be used to fund abortions. This policy became known as the “Hyde Amendment,” named after the late pro-life leader Rep. Henry Hyde (R-IL).

It was an easy position for politicians to take because polls (here and here) have consistently found that large majorities of the American people do not want their hard-earned tax dollars used to destroy innocent unborn babies.

I am pleased to report that last night the House of Representatives voted to make the Hyde Amendment a permanent feature of federal law. The legislation also prohibits Obamacare from paying for abortions.

While the legislation passed the House, I was, nevertheless, deeply disturbed by the vote. Only three House Democrats supported the bill.

This should not have been a controversial or partisan issue. Sadly, Democrats have moved so far left in their pro-abortion extremism, they now insist that you should be forced to pay for abortions. But you won’t hear that from the “mainstream media.”

Other Headlines

  • White House adviser Kellyanne Conway is now receiving Secret Service protection, which someone in her role would normally not receive (although Valerie Jarrett did). Even though Conway is the first woman to successfully manage a presidential campaign, she gets no accolades for breaking that glass ceiling. Instead, she is the subject of left-wing hate and death threats.
  • Speaking of left-wing hate. . . Agent Kerry O’Grady may soon find herself unemployed. In violation of the Hatch Act, she endorsed Hillary Clinton for president and, referring to Donald Trump, she wrote, “I would take jail time over a bullet . . . for what I believe to be disaster to this country. . . Hatch Act be damned. I am with Her.” Because of left-wing hate, President Trump has already been the target of at least one known assassination attempt and several threats.
  • Kudos to James O’Keefe and Project Veritas. Their journalistic efforts exposed left-wing plots to disrupt the inauguration and authorities have arrested one of the radical leaders.
  • Speaking of the inauguration, while liberal journalists decried President Trump’s inaugural address as “dark” and “divisive,” a new poll finds that 65% of Americans liked Trump’s “America First” message.
  • Here’s a great tip: A group of group of West Texas cowboys walked into a Washington, D.C., restaurant. (No, this isn’t a bad joke.) After their meal, they left a note for their waitress:

“We may come from different cultures, and we may disagree on certain issues, but if everyone would share their smile and kindness like your beautiful smile, our country will come together as one people, not race, not gender, just American. God bless.”
They also left a $450 tip!

Trump Gets Labor Love

Yesterday at the White House, President Trump met with ten top business leaders. What struck me about the meeting was that this was a businessman talking to businessmen and women. He vowed to slash regulations, ideally by as much as 75%.

He vowed to cut the corporate tax rate, currently among the highest in the world, to 15% if Congress cooperates. But he was clear about what he expected from them — to buy American and build their companies in America. President Trump told these business leaders, “What we want to do is bring manufacturing back to our country. . . We want to make our products here.”

George W. Bush would not have been so bold with American businesses. Barack Obama burdened American companies with taxes and regulations.

Here’s a president who is not at war with businesses and is doing everything he can to create a competitive business environment. In return, he expects them to act like American corporations so that our citizens enjoy the benefits of a growing economy.

As intriguing as that meeting was, a more fascinating meeting took place later in the day when President Trump met several labor union chiefs, all of whom had endorsed Hillary Clinton. Those labor leaders praised Trump during the meeting, so much so that the president called the media in to hear what they were saying.

After the meeting, one of the labor leaders said, “It was by far the best meeting I’ve had [in Washington]. . . The details we just heard from the president, we’re very excited about.”

I guarantee you that from the office of Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer to the suites of George Soros, from the salons of Hollywood to the faculty lounges of our college campuses, that meeting and similar quotes struck fear and loathing in the hearts of leftists everywhere.

Just as Trump would not accept that Iowa, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin had become unwinnable for Republicans, he is not accepting the conventional wisdom that large swaths of America are off limits to economic growth and that they will not accept his outstretched hand. In a few years time, we may be hearing a lot of “Trump Democrats,” just like we used to hear about “Reagan Democrats.”

This Trump/Pence Administration represents a mortal threat to the leftist conglomerate that was, pre-November, just one election away from taking control of America for decades.

By the way, President Trump is on a roll. Today he met with CEOs from the auto industry, and signed executive orders to ease construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.

White House English Only

Numerous reports have noted another change at the Trump White House: the White House website is now English only. The Spanish language version is gone.

Some on the left will decry the change as evidence of bigotry. They are wrong.

When you come to America the best thing you can do to show respect and share in the prosperity of America is to learn our language. In the United States, English is our national language, and polls show that Americans overwhelmingly support making English our official language.

About That March. . .

For all its hype, the Women’s March on Washington was a massive left-wing temper tantrum. It was an embarrassing display of obscene immaturity. [WARNING: GRAPHIC IMAGES]

But here’s something you may not know: One of the national co-chairs of the march, Linda Sarsour, is an advocate of Sharia law.

Sarsour once tweeted, “You’ll know when you’re living under Sharia law if suddenly all your loans and credit cards become interest free. Sounds nice, doesn’t it?” She has also defended the Saudi regime, which does not allow women to drive.

Sarsour also has terrorist connections. The New York Times reported in 2012 that “Members of her family had been arrested on accusations of supporting Hamas.” The Daily Caller reports that last month she posed for pictures with an ex-Hamas operative.

Irony does not begin to describe millions of women marching for so-called “women’s rights” under the leadership of a woman who is a defender of fundamentalist Islam, which is oppressing women all over the world.

I first noticed something odd about the march when I saw interspersed among the foul, vulgar signs that some women (and even children) were holding, other signs that read, “Free Birth Control, Free Palestine” or some variant.

We have reported for years on the bizarre alliance between the radical left and radical Islam. It is the continuation of what we have seen on university campuses, where young socialists make common cause with Palestinian student groups to fight and harass conservative students and those who support the U.S./Israeli alliance.

We have seen it in Europe where socialist and green parties united with Muslim voting blocs in London to elect the first Muslim mayor of a European capital. We have seen it in the Black Lives Matter movement, where Palestinian activists exploited the Ferguson riots and in a Black Lives Matter platform that accused Israel of genocide.

This is a dangerous and formidable alliance, and something that open border Republicans in Congress should ponder when they consider what our immigration policies should be.

Gold Star Families Attacked

Remember Khazir Khan? He is the Gold Star father who endorsed Hillary Clinton at last year’s Democratic National Convention. He became a household name during the campaign because the media routinely trotted him out whenever they wanted to attack Donald Trump as a bigot.

Since the election, Mr. Khan attacked Sen. Jeff Sessions, President Trump’s nominee to be attorney general.

But have you heard of Gold Star family members Amy Looney or Ryan Manion? Looney’s husband, Navy SEAL Lt. Brendan Looney, was killed in Afghanistan in 2010. Manion’s brother, Marine Lt. Travis Manion, was killed in Iraq in 2007.

Amy Looney and Ryan Manion were on their way to the Veterans Inaugural Ball Friday night when they were cornered and attacked by scores of hateful, anti-Trump protestors.

But you won’t hear about that from the left-wing media.

President Trump Gets To Work

What an incredible inaugural week! It was amazing to see the excitement of hundreds of thousands of people who came to Washington to celebrate the peaceful transfer of power from a left-wing administration to a conservative populist president. Not to belabor the obvious, but the mess President Trump has inherited is beyond comprehension.

As we reported, the left did its best to ruin the inauguration. There was sporadic violence throughout Washington. At least six police officers were injured and more than 200 people were arrested. Most of those detained are facing charges of felony rioting, a serious offense that can result in 10 years in jail. I hope the new Justice Department prosecutes these extremists to the fullest extent of the law.

More Fake News

The media’s war against the Trump/Pence Administration took a nasty turn over the weekend. Multiple commentators suggested that Melania Trump sat stone faced during Saturday morning’s prayer service at the National Cathedral. Carol and I were there. There were many emotional moments during the service.

One of the most moving was when Marlana VanHoose sang “How Great Thou Art.” VanHoose is blind and has cerebral palsy. But she was gifted with a beautiful voice. During this song, First Lady Melania Trump cried. When VanHoose finished singing, Mrs. Trump led the congregation in a standing ovation.

Later that day, President Trump invited reporters into the Oval Office to witness the swearing in of several top aides. Within minutes, a reporter from Time tweeted that Trump had removed a bust of Martin Luther King, Jr. That was a lie. The King bust is still there.

The reporter later claimed someone was standing in front of it, and it was just an honest mistake. Well, if he didn’t see it why didn’t he ask White House aides whether it had been moved? We know why. The reporter thought he had his narrative — that Trump is a bigot, and he ran with it.

When the reporter was called on his “mistake,” he issued multiple apologies. But the original claim had gone viral by that point.

By the way, President Trump returned the Churchill bust to the Oval Office.

The Crowd Debate

The media gleefully covered the anti-Trump protests that took place this weekend. These same journalists did their best to ignore the huge crowds that Donald Trump and Mike Pence attracted during the presidential campaign.

Hillary Clinton won 91% of the vote in Washington, D.C., 79% in New York City, 85% in Baltimore and 82% in Philadelphia. The point being that there is a ready pool of left-wing demonstrators who barely have to leave their homes to join a protest in the nation’s capital.

In contrast, the Trump/Pence vote was a Middle America vote both geographically and politically. Some people attending the inauguration held fundraisers to come to Washington. For many, it will likely be the only time they come to Washington with their families.

It should also be noted that Middle America left Washington just as they found it. The left trashed it. The Clinton/Sanders supporters smashed windows and burned garbage in the streets.

Several celebrities made headlines for what should be career-ending offensive comments. Madonna, whose career is pretty much over, told the crowd, “I’m angry. Yes, I am outraged. Yes, I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House.” Actress Ashley Judd recited a poem with obscene comments about the president and his daughter that I won’t repeat.

Here’s the important thing to remember: The division we saw during the campaign and over the weekend isn’t being caused by Donald Trump or Mike Pence. That’s what the media want you to believe.

Instead, the division and rancor that so many Americans rightly disdain is a product of the increasingly intolerant left, which I wrote about in my latest opinion piece at The Daily Caller.

Defending Life

Yesterday marked the 44th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court’s decision legalizing most abortions in America. Since that ruling 44 years ago, more than 58 million innocent lives have been sacrificed in the name choice and privacy.

Our nation was founded on the idea that each one of us was created by God with the “unalienable” right to life. Fifty-eight million deaths is a betrayal of our founding principles just as slavery violated those principles.

Roe v. Wade is based on the same misguided philosophy as Dred Scott — that some humans are not “people” with rights we are obligated to respect. Anyone who points out the flaw in the left’s logic is accused of misogyny, of wanting to “turn back the clock.”

But it is the left that wants to turn back the clock. Modern technology allows us to see into the womb, making it virtually impossible to deny the humanity of the unborn child. The science of conception is settled! Those who deny the reality of life are the true deniers of science.

This Friday, there will be another march in Washington — the March for Life. Hundreds of thousands of Americans will gather in our nation’s capital to pray for the end of abortion.

The contrast with the Women’s March will be striking. There will be no profanity from the speakers. There will be no vandalism. There won’t be mountains of garbage left behind. And, because of the media’s liberal bias, you won’t hear much, if anything, about it on the nightly news.

Nevertheless, I am confident that the day is coming when all of our children will be welcomed into society and protected by the law. I am pleased to report that President Trump today signed an executive order reinstating President Ronald Reagan’s “Mexico City policy,” banning federal funding to organizations that perform and promote abortions overseas.

And in the days ahead, President Trump will make a far more important decision that will impact the sanctity of life when he selects a Supreme Court nominee to replace Justice Antonin Scalia. Already Senate Democrats, emboldened by the weekend protests, are threatening to block a conservative nominee.

With your continued support, my friends, I promise to keep fighting for the right to life so long as God gives me breath!

Obama’s Shame

Lame duck President Barack Obama has been working harder in recent weeks than he has in the past eight years. He has been busy attempting to delegitimize the election of Donald Trump and undermining the national security of the United States. He hit a new low yesterday when he commuted the sentence of Bradley/Chelsea Manning.

As you may recall, Manning stole and leaked more than 700,000 national security documents and handed them over to Wikileaks, which posted the information online. What Manning stole was so important that Osama bin Laden was obsessed with reading it in order to counter American war strategy in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Taliban publicly stated that it would use the information to hunt down informants.

Manning was charged with 22 crimes, including aiding the enemy, which carries the death penalty. He pled guilty to ten charges, was convicted on several others and sentenced to 35 years in prison. Thanks to Obama, Manning will be released in May after serving just seven years.

In recent weeks, Donald Trump has been pilloried by the left and even some on the right for supposedly not respecting the men and women in the intelligence community who risk their lives to protect us. Barack Obama just slapped the intelligence community in the face.

Think about this for a moment. During last year’s presidential campaign, Obama and the Democrats directed a lot of vitriol at Wikileaks for exposing John Podesta’s emails and messages from the Democratic National Committee. Those emails were a mixture of gossip and embarrassing political commentary.

Almost every day since the election we have been told that the hacking of those political documents constituted a constitutional crisis. There has been an effort to undermine Trump’s legitimacy. Sanctions were imposed on Russia. Multiple investigations are underway.

The documents Manning released were not gossip. They involved the national security secrets of the United States of America. Even CNN’s Jake Tapper was shocked by the blatant contradiction involved in commuting Manning’s sentence.

The DNC leak is insignificant compared to the gaping wound that Manning struck to the body of U.S. national security. With this one act, Barack Obama has shown the total hypocrisy of the hair-on-fire controversy we were subjected to regarding John Podesta’s emails.

Every congressman and senator who expressed such grave misgivings about whether Russia was involved in the DNC leaks should be outraged over what the president just did in giving a “get out of jail free card” to one of the most despicable characters in modern American history.

The reaction to Obama’s commutation of Manning’s sentence was fierce and bi-partisan. “This is outrageous,” Speaker Paul Ryan said. “Chelsea Manning’s treachery put American lives at risk and exposed some of our nation’s most sensitive secrets.”

“I’m stunned,” said Sen. John McCain (R-AZ). “President Obama’s commutation . . . is a grave mistake that I fear will encourage further acts of espionage and undermine military discipline. It also devalues the courage of real whistle-blowers.”

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) told MSNBC, “I think it’s dead wrong. Absolutely dead wrong. . . This is treason. Espionage at the highest level.” Manchin went on to suggest that Obama was giving a “green light” to other hackers.

Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) said, “At a time when we are seriously questioning what Russia did, as it relates to our recent elections and the role of Wikileaks, I’m not sure what kind of message we send here. I’m really surprised that the president took this action.”

And it is also being reported that Secretary of Defense Ash Carter opposed reducing Manning’s sentence.

But Wait, There’s More!

Obama also commuted the sentence of domestic terrorist Oscar Lopez Rivera. Considered by the radical left to be a “political prisoner,” Lopez Rivera was a member of the F.A.L.N., a Marxist terrorist group that was responsible for more than 100 bombings.

In 1981, he was convicted on several charges, including seditious conspiracy and armed robbery, and sentenced to 55 years in jail. In 1988, he got another 15 years for plotting to escape from Ft. Leavenworth.

Incredibly, Bill Clinton tried to free Lopez Rivera in 1999, but he rejected Clinton’s terms for clemency, which included renouncing terrorism. What conditions, if any, did Obama demand?

The political left is applauding the release of this terrorist. Weather Underground terrorist Bill Ayers was “dancing in the aisles” at the news. Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator of the Broadway hit “Hamilton,” tweeted yesterday, “Sobbing with gratitude here in London. OSCAR LOPEZ RIVERA IS COMING HOME. THANK YOU, @POTUS.”

My friends, I don’t need to tell any of you just how difficult life is today for many Christians around the world. According to a recent report, 2016 was the “worst year yet” for Christian persecution. But persecution has been a harsh reality for Christians ever since Christ was nailed to the Cross.

Silence, a new film appearing in theaters across the country, reveals the conditions Christians endured in 17th century Japan. The film follows two Catholic priests from Portugal as they travel to Japan in search of a missing mentor who was there to spread the faith.

I don’t want to give away too much of the plot, but I will say that it’s a story of deep and persevering faith in the face of unthinkable persecution. The priests and the small communities of Japanese Christians they minister to are terrorized for their faith by a government that feared what Christianity would do if it got a foothold in the country. They realized how powerful the Good News was, especially for the poor and marginalized.

This is not a movie for young children. It shows in detail just how terribly Christians suffered for their faith. It is also a disturbing reminder of the persecution that is taking place today in many parts of the world.

That said, Silence is a beautiful film, with rich cinematography and stellar acting. It has already won several film awards, and it’s easy to see why. I recommend everyone go see it.
