Cruz Wins Big Endorsement From Gov. Pence

Indiana’s presidential primary is next week, Tuesday, May 3rd. And this afternoon, Sen. Ted Cruz got a big boost when Governor Mike Pence endorsed him. Here are some excerpts of Governor Pence’s remarks:

“I’m not against anybody, but I will be voting for Ted Cruz in the Republican primary. I am a Reagan conservative. . . I see Ted Cruz as a principled conservative who’s dedicated his career to advancing the Reagan agenda. . .

“I’m very impressed with Ted Cruz’s devotion and knowledge of the Constitution. . . to our Second Amendment, and of course, I appreciate his strong and unwavering stand for the sanctity of life. . . He has shown the courage of his convictions. It’s not a popular thing in Washington to take on the leadership of your own party, and he has been willing to do it.”
Indeed, he has. Just ask John Boehner and Mitch McConnell!

Polls show the race in Indiana is a dead heat between Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. Perhaps Gov. Pence’s endorsement will make the difference.

By the way, Governor Pence handled the endorsement the right way. He did not use rhetoric that savaged the other candidates. Instead, he raised up Cruz.

He also made it clear that he would “work my heart out” for whomever wins the GOP nomination, adding, “The course of [the Obama Administration] will only be magnified by either of the current Democrat candidates.”

Not Funny!

Will Ferrell made a name for himself mocking George W. Bush. But Bush has been out of office for nearly eight years. What could Ferrell do to keep his career going?

There’s plenty of buffoonery to mock on the left. How about a crazy vice president who routinely puts his foot in his mouth? Well, that wouldn’t go over well in Hollywood. So Ferrell is going after another Republican president, one who left office nearly 30 years ago — Ronald Reagan.

The latest Ferrell flick suggests that Reagan was suffering from dementia by the time he was reelected and an intern gets assigned to convince Reagan he is an actor playing the president.

This is just another attempt to pass off the left’s narrative to the popular culture, and denigrate this great man. It is disgusting, but even more so coming on the heels of Nancy Reagan’s passing.

Patti Davis, President Reagan’s daughter, wrote an open letter to Ferrell asking him just what it is that he finds so amusing about Alzheimer’s. You can read her letter here.

Of course, I’m still waiting for the left to do a movie about the intern who came to the White House, starry eyed about the president she thought walked on water, but ended up in the Oval Office on her knees. At least this film would include a favorite narrative of the left — the war on women!

[UPDATE: News is breaking as I write that Will Ferrell is pulling out of this production.]

Deconstructing Reagan

As most of you know, I served all eight years in the Reagan Administration. The early years were at the Department of Education, eventually becoming under secretary serving with Bill Bennett. In that capacity, I had regular occasions to interact with President Reagan at White House meetings. He was as sharp as anyone in the room.

In Reagan’s second term, I was selected to be the president’s chief domestic policy advisor, and spent my days working in the West Wing. I had lunch with President Reagan and top aides most Mondays.

I saw his sharp sense of humor, witnessed him making serious policy decisions and watched as he expressed appropriate reactions to adverse news. Never was there any sign that he was anything other than fully competent.

Historically, one of the things the communists and Nazis engaged in, and which Muslim extremists do today, is to rewrite history and desecrate the memories and the graves of their enemies. That is how deep their hatred runs.

What you are seeing in textbooks and in this movie is the left’s attempt to deny history, to deconstruct Ronald Reagan, and desecrate his grave. They should be ashamed of themselves, but the left doesn’t even understand that concept.

My friends, don’t miss the left’s bigger goal, which motivates something like this film. The goal is to deconstruct and delegitimize the Reagan presidency and, by extension, conservatism generally.

Reagan’s presidency brought down the Soviet Union, and created economic growth and prosperity that Barack Obama can only dream about.

The real memory loss issue here is the one that is going on in classrooms all over American, where the Reagan years are presented as an era of greed and the world was on the brink of nuclear war.

This movie, which hopefully never makes the big screen, is the history the left is attempting to create. They think Reagan entered office as a dunce and left addled by Alzheimer’s. Anything that happened during his presidency was the result of handlers or sheer dumb luck.

One truth worth mentioning here is that these same leftists repeatedly challenged Reagan during his career, and he beat them every time. And the American people loved him for it!

He left office with a 63% approval rating and remains one of America’s most popular modern presidents.

When he passed away in 2004, crowds swarmed the streets of Washington and California. The liberal media, still in denial about this beloved man, were stunned.

Good News

Sgt. 1st Class Charles Martland, a decorated Green Beret, will be allowed to remain in the United States Army. Martland and his commanding officer, Captain Dan Quinn, were disciplined after they confronted a local Afghan police commander who raped a young boy.

When the Afghan commander laughed off the incident, Martland knocked him to the ground. The Army initiated disciplinary procedures against both Green Berets. Captain Quinn was relieved of his command and retired early. Martland’s future was in jeapordy.

The case received national attention. Rep. Duncan Hunter, Jr. said it “exemplified” everything that was wrong with our politically correct military. A coalition of conservative organizations swung into action to expose this outrage.

Thankfully, news broke last night that the Army has reversed course. According to Lt. Col. Jerry Pionk, the Board for Correction of Military Records modified one of Martland’s evaluation reports, “which will allow him to remain in the Army.”

Responding to last night’s good news, Rep. Hunter said, “The Army did the right thing. . . and the American people won. Martland is who we want out there.”

BREAKING NEWS: Three family members of the San Bernardino shooters have been arrested on charges of conspiracy, immigration fraud and perjury.

Subsidizing Iran’s Nuclear Program

Late last week, the Obama Administration quietly announced that it was going to purchase heavy water from Iran. Heavy water can be used to produce nuclear weapons, and the Obama Administration is buying it from Iran at the same time that the regime is in the process of developing its missile arsenal.

The nuclear deal requires Iran to dispose of its heavy water. Fine. So dispose of it. Why do we have to buy it?

Once again, the Obama Administration is going out of its way to accommodate the Iranians, while the mullahs in Tehran are doing everything they can to frustrate and insult us. Many now believe we are directly subsidizing Iran’s nuclear program.

That has led to widespread anger on Capitol Hill. But there is not enough anger to convince Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid to allow a vote on the issue.

Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas proposed an amendment to the Department of Energy appropriations bill that would prohibit the administration from spending any money to purchase Iranian heavy water.

But rather than go on the record for or against Sen. Cotton’s amendment to prevent the United States from directly subsidizing Iran’s nuclear program with heavy water purchases, Harry Reid and Senate Democrats are filibustering the entire energy bill.

By the way, after Democrats shut down the important business of government, they nevertheless found the time to pass a resolution by Senators Al Franken (D-MN) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) honoring deceased pop icon Prince. And Washington wonders why so many Americans are angry!

Not to be outdone, the White House’s response to Senator Cotton’s amendment was dismissive and disrespectful. Press Secretary Josh Earnest said yesterday, “Sen. Cotton is certainly no expert when it comes to heavy water. I’m confident that he couldn’t differentiate heavy water from sparkling water.”

Earnest should be fired. Sen. Cotton is a Harvard educated lawyer who volunteered to serve in the Army. He declined an automatic commission as a captain in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps, eventually earning that rank by serving two tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne Division.

But I won’t hold my breath waiting for Earnest to be disciplined. This administration’s contempt for the military is well-established.

Firings, Fiorina & Foreign Policy

Bowing to reality, Bernie Sanders’ campaign announced yesterday that it would begin laying off staff members. The candidate told the New York Times, “We have had a very large staff, which was designed to deal with 50 states in this country; 40 of the states are now behind us.”

When asked how deep the cuts to his staff would be, Sanders replied, “It will be hundreds of staff members.”

Now if we could only convince Democrats to downsize Big Government!

It was a big news day for the GOP candidates, too. Senator Ted Cruz, eager to inject new enthusiasm into his campaign, made the extremely unorthodox move of announcing his vice presidential pick, former Hewlett-Packard CEO, Carly Fiorina. Usually candidates wait until the convention to make that announcement.

If nothing else, it was a good PR move by the Cruz campaign. Most of the news networks covered it, and the Texas senator is on the front page of many newspapers this morning. It also changed the subject from Trump’s Tuesday wins and blunted the coverage of his big foreign policy address.

Speaking of that address, Trump delivered his remarks from a teleprompter, which allowed for a more presidential delivery. It was another indication that the presumptive front runner is beginning to pivot to the general election.

The media, of course, are panning the content. But Trump offered a strong affirmation of our alliance with Israel, a commitment to win if we go to war and he blasted the Obama Administration for abandoning Christians in the Middle East.

Of course, Senator Ted Cruz has a long record of support for Israel and fighting against Christian persecution.

Targeting Target

The corporate leaders of Target have fully embraced the radical left-wing agenda. Recently, the chain became the first national retailer to announce that anyone could use whatever bathroom or changing facility they choose.

If you’re man and you want to try out the ladies’ fitting room, then Target is the place for you.

Needless to say, the American people have a lot of choices in the free market, and many are taking their business elsewhere. Our friends at AFA launched a boycott and nearly one million Americans have signed up.

Others are going into Target stores and confronting local managers about this nonsense. Pastors are speaking up, too.

I know of one pastor who told his congregation that they have a chance to demonstrate their commitment to their values. It won’t require them to risk execution or even persecution, like our fellow believers in the Middle East. All they have to do is stop shopping at Target.

Boehner’s Back

Former Speaker of the House John Boehner is back in the news. He’s making headlines for his remarks about the presidential contest.

During a question and answer session with students and faculty at Stanford University, Boehner was asked to comment on each of the presidential candidates.

Boehner implied that his fellow Ohioan, John Kasich, could be difficult, saying, “John requires more effort on my behalf than all my other friends.”

He said he was a golfing and “texting buddy” with Donald Trump, and would vote for Trump for president.

What about Ted Cruz?

Boehner said he would not vote for Cruz for president. He described Cruz as “Lucifer in the flesh,” adding, “I have never worked with a more miserable son of a b-tch in my life.”

Knowing how much grassroots conservatives were disappointed by John Boehner, I suggest that the Cruz campaign immediately turn the former speaker’s negative endorsement into pro-Cruz campaign ads!

Bad News For Hillary

Hillary Clinton is running to continue the Obama legacy, but she’s going to have a big albatross around her neck — Obamacare. Six years later, the American people still don’t like Barack Obama’s signature initiative.

According to the Pew Research Center, 54% of Americans disapprove of Obamacare, while 44% approve. And those numbers are likely to get worse.

UnitedHealthCare, one of the nation’s largest insurance providers, announced recently that it is abandoning most Obamacare exchanges because it is losing money. Simply put, the government’s healthcare scheme is unsustainable. Hundreds of thousands of Americans are going to lose their coverage as a result.

Meanwhile, the Associated Press warns that Obamacare premiums for 2017 are expected to skyrocket. It seems that the Affordable Care Act isn’t so affordable after all.

BREAKING NEWS: Senator Ted Cruz just announced that his vice presidential running mate, if he is nominated, will be former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina.

Primary Results: The Democrats

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton won four of five states in last night’s “Acela Primary,” so named for the Amtrak train that runs through Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. Here are the results:

Connecticut: Clinton 52%, Sanders 47%

Delaware: Clinton 60%, Sanders 39%

Maryland: Clinton 63%, Sanders 33%

Pennsylvania: Clinton 56%, Sanders 44%

Rhode Island: Sanders 55%, Clinton 44%
With her solid victories last night, Hillary Clinton surged ahead in the delegate contest. She now has 2,151 delegates or 90% of the total needed to secure the Democrat presidential nomination. Meanwhile, Bernie Sanders promises to continue fighting all the way to the Democrat convention, but there are reports his campaign has begun laying off staff.

Primary Results: The Republicans

It isn’t easy to “spin” last night’s results. The Donald dominated, sweeping all five contests in the Northeast. Here are the results:

Connecticut: Trump 58%, Kasich 29%, Cruz 12%

Delaware: Trump 61%, Kasich 20%, Cruz 16%

Maryland: Trump 54%, Kasich 23%, Cruz 19%

Pennsylvania: Trump 57%, Cruz 22%, Kasich 19%

Rhode Island: Trump 64%, Kasich 25%, Cruz 11%
As a reality check, only one of those states may be competitive for the eventual Republican nominee in November — Pennsylvania. It has a lot of working class people, and candidates like Trump and Cruz, who are speaking to those voters, might prevail. If they did, it would dramatically change the Electoral College landscape.

Donald Trump is not my candidate, but it is impossible to deny the impressive nature of his victories. The media dismiss Trump as a divisive candidate, doomed to fail. True, his negatives are sky high, but he is shattering voting records.

According to one analysis, Trump has won more than 10 million votes so far, “already about 250,000 more than Romney earned in the entire 2012 primary season.” At this rate, Trump will “easily pass the modern record-holder, George W. Bush, who collected 10.8 million votes in 2000.”

Warning Signs: Anger

Let me dive a bit deeper and give you some more details from the exit polls that may explain the primary results.

Nearly 60% percent of Republican voters in Pennsylvania said they felt betrayed by the Republican Party. We’ve seen similar polling results in state after state this primary season. Think about that for a second.

In the media and in Washington, D.C., Tea Party conservatives like Sen. Cruz, Rep. Steve King and Rep. Louie Gohmert, who battle the GOP leadership and insist on conservative ideas, are considered by the media and the GOP establishment as “fringe.”

But solid majorities of Republicans are saying they are not angry at the conservative rebels in Congress, who played hardball on spending bills and government shutdowns. They are upset at the party leaders.

It is no accident that the two main contenders for the nomination are Trump, whose entire campaign has been an attack on the GOP establishment, and Cruz, whose opponents keep saying, “No one in the GOP leadership likes him.” To conservative voters, that’s a compliment.

My explanation for the grassroots’ frustration is the general sense that GOP leaders do not fight hard enough. Conservatives tired of weak-kneed opposition to Obama and the left are turning to candidates they perceive to be fighters.

Warning Signs: Out Of Touch Elites

Here’s another telling statistic: 68% of Pennsylvania Republicans agreed with Trump’s call for a temporary moratorium on Muslim immigration. Again, similar results have been registered in virtually every state in this campaign.

And yet hardly a day goes by when I don’t run into a Republican insider who just doesn’t get it. They shake their heads and parrot Obama, saying, “A ban on Muslims does not represent our values.”

My response is always the same: Tell me the urgent public policy reason why America should become less Judeo-Christian and more Islamic. I have yet to get an adequate answer to that question, particularly at a time of war.

It makes no sense to me, and apparently to wide majorities of Republicans around the country, that we continue to allow high levels of Muslim immigration when we don’t have the faintest notion of how to adequately screen people coming in.

We got warnings about one of the Tsarnaev brothers from Russia, but nothing happened. Even with repeated warnings about the jihadist at Fort Hood, political correctness stopped us from acting. No one paid attention to the Pakistani jihadi bride’s social media account, or fake addresses or warnings about the radical mosque they attended.

During World War II, no one was suggesting that we should be taking in more German or Japanese immigrants. No one thought that was a rational reaction during a time of war. So why, when we are at war with radical Islamists, do Washington elites go nuts when the suggestion is made to pause Muslim immigration?

Muslim immigration, the failure to defund Obamacare, inaction in the face of Obama’s violation of the separation of powers, the Gitmo “jail breaks” courtesy of Obama, the attacks on religious liberty — the list goes on and on. That is what explains much of the frustration and rebellion of grassroots conservatives.

Fired For His Faith

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal owes Dr. Eric Walsh an apology.

Dr. Walsh is an accomplished medical professional. He has multiple advanced degrees and he served on President Obama’s Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDs. Dr. Walsh started a low-income clinic for California families struggling with AIDs and served for more than three years as director of public health for the city of Pasadena, California.

Dr. Walsh accepted an offer from the state of Georgia to serve as a regional director with the state’s Department of Public Health. But the offer was rescinded. Now he’s suing the state of Georgia.

Dr. Walsh’s medical credentials or his job performance were never at issue. It turns out that he is also a lay minister and has preached biblically-sound sermons regarding marriage and human sexuality.

The state of Georgia essentially fired him after several bureaucrats reviewed his sermons and decided that someone with traditional Judeo-Christian values could not work as a medical professional for the state of Georgia.

This is absolutely stunning!

The amendment defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman passed in Georgia with 76% of the vote. I bet there are a lot of Georgia state employees who share Dr. Walsh’s views. I guess they could all be fired for their beliefs too.

The left insisted that gay marriage would never affect what pastors can and cannot say in their churches. But there are a lot of pastors in America, like Dr. Walsh, who hold second jobs.

Is their First Amendment right to religious freedom limited to the confines of their church? Do they need to be worried about the government “spying” on them like the KGB and threatening their careers? That is not the vision of religious liberty that our Founding Fathers had in mind.

Governor Nathan Deal recently vetoed religious liberty legislation, suggesting that it was discriminatory and unnecessary.

Dr. Walsh’s case, as well as former Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran’s case, proves just how necessary that bill was and how committed the left is to punishing views based on the Bible.

Big Government & Big Abortion

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently made headlines for her extreme position on abortion. During a recent appearance on the The View, Clinton explained her support forRoe v. Wade by saying that an unborn baby has no legal rights and can be aborted right up until the moment of birth.

Not to be outdone, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders said yesterday, “I think we should expand funding for Planned Parenthood,” America’s biggest abortion business. I guess that’s one big business the Vermont socialist likes.

But there’s more. . .

Sanders also said, “I will use the Department of Justice to go after” states that are trying to impose restrictions on abortion.

What kind of restrictions is Sanders talking about? Reasonable regulations that require abortion facilities to meet basic health and safety standards. Limits on late-term abortions. Parental notification laws. Sanders would use the brute power of the federal government to strike them all down.

Whoever ultimately gets the Republican presidential nomination should not be afraid of this issue. It is a gift!

It shows that the real extremists are not pro-life conservatives, but the pro-abortion, no-exceptions-at-any-time, leaders of the Democrat Party.

Court Upholds Common Sense

Federal Judge Thomas Schroeder yesterday ruled against the Obama Justice Department when he upheld North Carolina’s 2013 voter ID law. The left claims that voter ID laws are right-wing efforts to disenfranchise minority voters. But as Judge Schroeder noted in his opinion, black voter turnout increased in North Carolina in 2014.

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory praised the decision, saying, “Common practices like boarding an airplane and purchasing Sudafed require photo ID and thankfully a federal court has ensured our citizens will have the same protection for their basic right to vote.”

The NAACP is vowing to appeal.

The Supreme Court upheld voter ID laws in 2008. But that decision could be in jeopardy.

Justice John Paul Stevens wrote the court’s opinion in favor of voter ID laws, but he retired two years later. Obama replaced Stevens with Elena Kagan. In a 2014 dissenting opinion,Justice Kagan indicated a desire to overturn Texas’ voter ID law. Justice Scalia, who passed away in February, was also part of the court’s 2008 majority.

Currently, there are only four justices on the high court who supported voter ID laws. Just one more reason why the 2016 elections are so important!

Obama Gets Tough!

After nearly eight years of groveling at the feet of the world’s worst tyrants, from the mullahs of Iran to the Castro brothers in Cuba, President Obama has finally located his spine and laid down the law. Unfortunately, the target of his ire was not the North Koreans or ISIS, but the dreaded Brits!

Britain is in the middle of an important debate over whether to withdraw from the European Union. The press has dubbed the June vote “Brexit.”

Polling shows voters are deeply divided. As Europe struggles with a massive influx of migrants and growing national security issues, many British voters believe they are giving up too much national sovereignty in exchange for a quagmire of European problems.

Enter Obama. Always hesitant to lecture any dictator about what he should or should not do, he quickly jumped into Britain’s domestic political debate and made it clear how he wanted the British people to vote.

And just in case they weren’t listening, he threatened to punish England if its citizens voted to withdraw from the EU. Obama suggested that the U.S. would make trade deals with Europe first, and would only get around to making trade deals with Great Britain five or ten years later.

His interference in a domestic debate has riled many British commentators, as it should. Some are predicting that far from helping the pro-European Union cause he actually hurt it. I hope so.

As reports of Obama’s aggressive interference in a purely British domestic debate poured in over the weekend, I couldn’t help but remember what happened when Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu came to the United States to address Congress on the Iranian nuclear deal in March of 2015. Obama and his cronies were furious at Netanyahu’s “interference” even though the deal would directly and immediately impact Israel’s national security.

So in Obama’s world, it is okay for him to interfere in a British referendum on a matter of no national security interest to the United States, but it is unacceptable for the prime minister of Israel to offer advice to Congress on a matter that poses an existential threat to his nation.

With Obama consistency only shows itself in one way: he consistently rewards our enemies while threatening and lecturing our friends.

Europe Under Siege

To understand why many in Great Britain might want out of the European Union, just consider the chaos caused by the current wave of Muslim migration that is sweeping the continent. Conservatives have been warning that Europe’s lax immigration system was being exploited by ISIS. In fact, ISIS has bragged about it.

Now even the Washington Post is belatedly acknowledging reality. In a front-page story this weekend, the Post retraces the steps of four ISIS terrorists, two of whom were involved in the deadly Paris attacks.

Europe’s experience is relevant to the United States, especially given Barack Obama’s intention to bring in more Syrian refugees, virtually all of whom are Muslims.

Justice Arthur Goldberg famously wrote that the Constitution “is not a suicide pact.” Compassion is not a suicide pact either. In a time of war, which we are in, compassion untempered by rationality leads to death. Sadly, too many elites in the West continue to stick their heads in the sand.

Cruz/Kasich Tag Team Trump

The Cruz and Kasich campaigns announced yesterday that they were coordinating their strategies in the upcoming primary contests, hoping to deny Donald Trump the victories he needs to secure the Republican presidential nomination.

There are 172 delegates at stake in tomorrow’s primary contests, and everyone concedes that Donald Trump is going to have a good night. Trump is expected to run the tables in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.

Those wins will push Trump’s delegate count close to 1,000. To make sure he falls short of the 1,237 majority needed to clinch the nomination, the Cruz campaign is going to focus all its energy and resources on winning the Indiana primary on May 3rd. In fact, Senator Cruz is holding four campaign events in Indiana today.

The Kasich campaign will not contest Indiana. The Cruz campaign will in turn “clear the path for Gov. Kasich to compete in Oregon and New Mexico,” Cruz campaign manager Jeff Roe said yesterday.

Meanwhile, Senator Cruz continues to score big wins in the delegate selection process. Cruz supporters claimed at least 65 of 94 delegate positions awarded in Kentucky, Maine, South Carolina and Utah.

Of course, that only matters if there is a contested convention requiring more than one ballot to pick the nominee. If Donald Trump wins another 400 delegates during the primary contests between now and June 7th, he will be the GOP nominee.

Felons For Hillary

Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe (D) signed a sweeping executive order Friday restoring voting rights to more than 200,000 ex-felons. The move potentially expands Virginia’s voting rolls by nearly 4%.

That is not an insignificant figure. Virginia’s 2014 Senate race was decided by fewer than 18,000 votes or eight-tenths of one percent. The year before, the race for attorney general was decided by 165 votes out of more than 2.2 million cast, or 0.007%.

And in 2012, Barack Obama won Virginia by fewer than 150,000 votes or 3.9%.

There is no question that this move overwhelmingly benefits Democrats. Few doubt that former DNC Chairman McAuliffe was doing his part to make sure that Virginia would be in Hillary Clinton’s column in November.

McAuliffe was clearly borrowing from Barack Obama’s playbook. This executive order is likely unconstitutional and exceeds McAuliffe’s authority as governor. But don’t take my word for it.

Democrat Tim Kaine, who served as governor of Virginia from 2006 to 2010, was asked by the ACLU to do exactly what Terry McAuliffe just did. The Kaine Administration declined, telling the ACLU that “A blanket order restoring the voting rights of everyone would be a rewrite of the law. . .”

Even the left-wing New York Times acknowledged as much, writing, “The action effectively overturns a Civil War-era provision in the state’s Constitution.” No governor has the power to overturn his state’s constitution!

Once again, the left does not hesitate to assault the rule of law in order to advance its own agenda.

William Howell, speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates, blasted McAuliffe’s action that includes “even the most heinous violent crimes including murder, rape, child rape, and kidnapping.” Speaker Howell vowed to “immediately begin a detailed review of the Governor’s policy to determine what options are available to the General Assembly.” pril 25, 2016

Once again, the left does not hesitate to assault the rule of law in order to advance its own agenda.

William Howell, speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates, blasted McAuliffe’s action that includes “even the most heinous violent crimes including murder, rape, child rape, and kidnapping.” Speaker Howell vowed to “immediately begin a detailed review of the Governor’s policy to determine what options are available to the General Assembly.”

Will THIS Matter?

Donald Trump has said and done a lot of things over the past year that would have driven most politicians into early retirement. But I wasn’t the only one with raised eyebrows yesterday after his disturbing response to North Carolina’s effort to keep men out of women’s bathrooms.

Trump has a problem with female voters, but this doesn’t seem like a good way to win them back.

Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council and Penny Nance at Concerned Women for American also expressed their concerns.

In addition, there is a scathing article in The Weekly Standard by Jonathan Last. Read it here. Last explains that Trump’s response to the bathroom debate was completely alien to conservative thought as he fully embraced the radical left-wing view.

The Trump campaign evidently realized it had a problem. After criticizing North Carolina’s law yesterday morning, Trump told Sean Hannity last night that the issue should be left to the states.

That’s what conservative were told about the marriage issue too. But the left has no tolerance for a “live and let live,” state’s-rights approach. As we have noted, the Obama Education Department and the federal courts are forcing this nonsense on the public schools.

Trump’s remarks came during an interview in which he also signaled some discomfort with the GOP’s pro-life platform plank. I suspect there may be more than a few values voters rethinking their options for 2016, and there are still a number of primaries coming up where they could make the difference.

Happy Earth Day!

Today is Earth Day, and 170 countries are expected to sign the so-called “Paris Agreement” on climate change. The impact of this radical agenda is already being felt.

Remember Barack Obama’s promise to “bankrupt coal companies”? Last week, America’s largest coal company declared bankruptcy. America’s second-largest coal company declared bankruptcy in January.

And whichever coal companies manage to survive the Obama era, Hillary is promising to “put out of business” should she be elected president.

As economist Stephen Moore wrote, the left’s green energy agenda is declaring war on the working class.

Now, wherever you stand on climate change, the bigger concern should be the continued erosion of the rule of law. Once again, Barack Obama is taking it upon himself to do what he does not have the authority to do.

The Paris Agreement, the president claims, will “hold every country accountable” with “legally binding” provisions. That sounds like a treaty to me.

But, just like his despised Iran deal, Obama is refusing to submit his job-killing agreement to the Senate for ratification.

Our children, exposed to the left’s hysteria in the public schools, are increasingly worried about the weather. But if our educational establishment were working properly, students would be more worried about the separation of powers. Sadly, I’m not convinced the average Ivy League graduate could explain that concept today.

Fool Of The Week

Rep. Candice Miller (R-MI), chairman of the House Administration Committee, wins this dubious honor hands down. Here’s why.

A tunnel system under Capitol Hill connects the House and Senate to various congressional office buildings. State flags had been displayed on the tunnel walls, but they came down during recent renovations. Now that the renovations are complete, the flags are back up, right?

Nope. That’s where Rep. Miller comes in.

She was concerned that someone might actually notice the state flag of Mississippi, which includes the Confederate battle flag in the top left corner.

“I am well aware of how many Americans negatively view the Confederate flag, and, personally, I am very sympathetic to these views,” Rep. Miller said. “However, I also believe that it is not the business of the federal government to dictate what flag each state flies.”

Evidently she does believe it is the federal government’s business — and hers — to ban visitors from seeing the Mississippi flag. In her capacity as chairman of the House Administration Committee, Miller decided that none of the state flags would go back up on the tunnel walls.

Some people might laugh at a story like this. But it is all part of the left’s intolerant agenda to determine what you can talk about and what you can believe.

If someone walks past 50 state flags and is offended by one, all 50 must come down. But if your wife goes into the ladies’ room and is offended by seeing a man there, her offense is bigotry and cannot be tolerated.

A statue of Robert E. Lee is an offense and must be taken down. Bathing the White House in the colors of the homosexual rights movement is progress, and anyone who objects is a Neanderthal.

You can go on ESPN and compare the Tea Party to ISIS, and ESPN will defend free speech. But if you suggest that men should use the men’s room, that is grounds for termination.

If you write an essay in your student newspaper defending Israel, your professor can send you a letter expressing his desire that you fail in every endeavor of life. Yes, this really happened — and nothing was done to the professor.

The culture war is real, my friends. The intolerant left must be stopped. It can be, but the hour is late.

Chag Sameach

Jews all over the world will gather tonight to celebrate the miracle of Passover, which commemorates the liberation of their people from ancient Egypt.

The Book of Exodus tells us that Moses was sent by God to tell Pharaoh to “Let my people go.” When Pharaoh refused a series of plagues were inflicted on the Egyptian people, including the water turning into blood, swarms of frogs, lice, wild animals, pestilence, boils, hail, locusts and darkness for three days.

Through it all, Pharaoh’s heart hardened and he still refused to end the bondage of the Jews.

The final plague that God used to free the Jews from Pharaoh and Egyptian captivity was to kill all the firstborn males.

Forewarned by God, Jews marked their doors with the blood of a lamb, and, as a result, He passed over their homes. Pharaoh finally relented and released the Hebrew people. (Exodus, Chapter 12.) God told the Jewish people to mark the day as a memorial day and to observe it as a feast to the Lord forever.

We join our Jewish brothers and sisters in praise and thanks to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob for His mercies and love. To all of you, Chag Sameach, a joyous festival!

Obama’s Travesty

Barack Obama said he wanted to fundamentally transform America, and he has in many ways. From health care to energy policy, even the meaning of marriage — much has changed since 2008. But he has also fundamentally transformed America’s foreign policy — largely to the benefit of our enemies.

Under the Obama/Kerry/Clinton foreign policy, the world has become unmoored. That is the conclusion of Lee Smith’s latest column at The Weekly Standard.

Smith reminds us that at the end of the day, it is Obama who is calling the shots, fundamentally transforming America’s foreign policy and, in the process, the world. Lee writes:

“. . . it’s the president who is giving Iran concession after concession. . . while Obama lets critics at home and abroad stick Kerry with the charge of appeasement. But it’s not really appeasement — it’s an Obama reeducation program. He’s correcting American foreign policy. . .

“Obama offers a different kind of thinking: Publicly insulting American allies is honorable. The only way to avoid war is to consort with a state sponsor of terror. Peace and security is the result of giving tens of billions of dollars to a regime that is making war across the Middle East.

“It’s a travesty.”
I agree.

Think about the beneficiaries of Obama’s foreign policy: Obama relaxed restrictions on Cuba. He “reset” relations with Russia. He removed sanctions on Iran.

He allowed the Arab Spring to turn into a nightmare. In fact, Obama is in the Middle East this week answering for the chaos he largely created.

For the first half of his presidency, Hillary Clinton was the architect of Obama’s unraveling of American leadership in the world. Now she wants to finish the job. I think we’ve had enough of his foreign policy travesty. The change we need in the White House is leadership the world can rely on!

Trump Embraces Transgenderism

Donald Trump was on NBC’s “Today” show this morning and tackled a lot of hot button issues making headlines. For example, when asked about the recent law passed by North Carolina requiring a man to use the men’s bathroom, Trump suggested the law was a mistake.

He was pressed on the issue by Matt Lauer. Consider this exchange:

LAUER: “If Caitlyn Jenner were to walk into Trump Tower, and wanted to use the bathroom, you would be fine with her using any bathroom she chooses?” [Emphasis added.]

TRUMP: “That is correct.”
Really? Any bathroom “she” chooses? That’s the standard now?

Mr. Trump may have just put the Tar Heel State into play by questioning North Carolina values. According to a recent poll, 56% of North Carolina voters believe individuals should use the bathroom that matches the gender of their birth. Only 34% disagreed.

Trump also suggested he was open to moderating the Republican Party’s pro-life plank, a position not likely to go over well with many GOP delegates.

ESPN — Shilling For The Left

ESPN, the Disney-owned sports network, fired baseball legend Curt Schilling yesterday for expressing his views, on his personal Facebook page, about the ongoing bathroom battles. His firing is yet another example of the intolerance of the left.

In a statement announcing its decision, ESPN bizarrely claimed that it was “an inclusive organization.” That Orwellian statement is clearly contradicted by reality. ESPN is not inclusive when it comes to mainstream opinions about men using women’s restrooms.

Most Americans share Schilling’s views. But ESPN apparently has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to common sense.

By the way, isn’t it amazing how anti-science the left has become?

Anyone who has a high school textbook can look up how sex is biologically defined. It’s not just being born with certain organs. Every cell has a chromosome that determines your gender.

You can remove certain body parts and wear different clothing. But you can also give a cell from your body to a scientist and he can determine your gender at birth without ever looking at you. Having surgery will not make you a woman any more than grafting a horn on your head will make you a unicorn.

Tubman On The Twenty

The Treasury Department announced a lot of changes to our currency yesterday. The most notable was that abolitionist Harriet Tubman is replacing Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill. She was a woman who embodied everything that is good about America, and the change is a fine thing to do.

But I would urge those who agree with this choice to start their grassroots organizing now. As sure as night follows day, I predict there will be an effort to block her or perhaps take her off at some stage, and no the effort won’t come from conservatives.

Sadly, the left doesn’t know much about history. As soon as liberals learn that Harriet Tubman was a gun-toting, evangelical, heterosexual Republican, her days on the $20 will be numbered!
