“Get Out”

The decline of America’s influence under Obama is accelerating. Fox News reports that “Russian diplomats sent an official demarche [a diplomatic demand] ordering U.S. planes out of Syria.”

That demand was issued as Russia launched its first airstrikes in Syria following a unanimous vote by Russian lawmakers to approve President Vladimir Putin’s request for the use of force.

Putin is going to war, and he’s telling America to get out of his way. How flexible will Obama be this time?

Some Americans, including Rand Paul-type conservatives, may be okay with Russia taking the lead. They are wrong. Putin is not our friend. He is a former KGB officer who said that the fall of the Soviet Union was the worst geopolitical event of the 20th century.

Thanks to Obama’s weakness, the Middle East is increasingly falling under the influence of Russia, Iran and Hezbollah. The implications for our security, as well as that of Israel’s and other allies, are tremendous — and all bad.

A Russia/Iran-controlled Middle East will spread the impact of the refugee tidal wave, increase the price of energy and likely contribute to the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

Putin’s Plan

NATO commander, General Philip Breedlove, said Monday that Putin is moving aggressively to deny U.S. access to the eastern Mediterranean. This is obvious by the kind of military units Putin is deploying in Syria.

“These very sophisticated air defense capabilities are not about [the Islamic State],” General Breedlove said. ISIS doesn’t have an air force.

Who are the major air powers in the Middle East? Israel and the United States, which gets us back to the Iran deal.

That terrible deal signaled the total weakness of the Obama Administration and one of two major political parties in America. Surely Moscow noticed that the Democratic Party was willing to embrace that terrible deal even if it meant undermining Israel.

What gave Russian generals the notion that they could order our planes out of Syrian airspace? No doubt they saw how Obama caved to repeated Iranian demands for more concessions during the nuclear talks.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said today that the Obama Administration was working to “deconflict” the situation in Syria. Right. I’m sure that tough talk will have ISIS rushing to lay down its weapons.

Meanwhile, more and more Obama Administration officials just can’t take it anymore. The Pentagon’s top Russia expert announced her resignation yesterday. Obama’s “ISIS Czar” announced last week that he was resigning too. And it is worth mentioning that Obama is on his fourth secretary of defense in seven years.

Netanyahu’s Warning

Last week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu went to Moscow to meet with Vladimir Putin. The trip was highly unusual because Netanyahu was accompanied by his top military commanders, including the Israeli Defense Forces chief of staff and the chief of military intelligence.

Yesterday, Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon described part of the conversation that took place in Moscow:

“Prime Minister Netanyahu made it clear to President Putin that we are not involved in who will control Syria. Assad or not Assad, we are not entering that discussion at all.

“But we have interests, and when they are threatened we act, and we will continue to act. . . . those who try to violate our sovereignty — we will strike them, and those who try to transfer advanced weapons to terror elements, with an emphasis on Hezbollah, we will strike them, and those who try to transfer chemical weapons to terror elements, we will strike them.

“We have no intention of giving up our ability to defend our interests. And I suggest that no one tests us.”

Israel is 1/40th our size and yet it just delivered a message to Moscow that our president and secretary of defense are unwilling to deliver.

The Pope & The Clerk

Pope Francis has a unique ability to generate headlines. Even his flight back to Rome made news. He spoke to reporters on the plane and was asked about government officials who refuse to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Pope Francis said:

“Conscientious objection must enter into every juridical structure because it is a right. I can’t have in mind all cases that can exist about conscientious objection but, yes, I can say that conscientious objection is a right that is a part of every human right.”

But with the pope out of the country, his comments in defense of religious liberty did not get nearly the press coverage they deserved. Today we are learning that Pope Francis, at his request, met with Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis while he was in the U.S.

Why are we only hearing about this now?

I am glad Pope Francis met with Davis and I appreciate his defense of conscience rights. But Barack Obama and the open borders crowd did not hesitate to exploit the pope to advance their radical agenda. I only wish Pope Francis had displayed as much determination in publicly defending religious freedom.

Frank Talk On Life

Rep. Trent Franks of Arizona is a long-time friend. He is a good man and one of the most passionate defenders of life in Congress today. He demonstrated that commitment yesterday by going on MSNBC to defend the hearings into Planned Parenthood’s use of taxpayer funds. And the left isn’t happy with him.

Rep. Franks boldly pointed out what we have noted many times: That the legal justification for abortion is similar to the reasoning that justified slavery. He said:

“The last issue that tore us apart like this was slavery, and it’s the same argument. Those that were for slavery said, ‘Well there’s not really a person here. . . . The Supreme Court said the same thing, just like they did in Roe vs. Wade.

“But there were those who understood that the foundational core principal that made this country what it was is that we believe that all of us are created, and that makes us equal. And that means we should protect the most innocent among us.”

Putin Takes The Lead

A number of world leaders addressed the United Nation’s General Assembly yesterday. But one man stole the show and made it clear that he was willing to fill the vacuum left by America’s retreat under Obama — Russian President Vladimir Putin.

As one New York Post columnist put it: “Obama has turned Putin into the world’s most powerful leader.” Even the usually sympathetic left-wing media could see it too, evidenced by this headline, “Putin Steals Obama’s Thunder On the World Stage.” Consider these excerpts:

“The Russian president showed up at the United Nations on Monday for the first time in a decade, proposing a coup against U.S. global leadership and seeking to wrest control of a coalition battling ISIS away from America’s grip. And he wasn’t the only leader of a country challenging the United States to effectively upstage Obama at the annual global meeting, which a U.S. president traditionally uses to command the spotlight.

“Speeches by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on the 70th anniversary of the creation of the world body also left Obama defending not only his personal foreign policy legacy . . . but the entire concept of a world order based on seven decades of U.S. global leadership.”

My friends, that blistering account of Obama’s failed leadership was from CNN, not Fox News.

And there’s more. The New York Times reports, “Russia Surprises U.S. With Accord On Battling ISIS.” The Times tells us that “For the second time this month, Russia moved to expand its political and military influence” in the Middle East “and left the United States scrambling.” Russia is taking the lead in fighting ISIS. Iraq, Iran and Syria will now coordinate their war efforts with Moscow. Axis of evil, anyone?

Who can blame them? Obama called ISIS a “junior varsity” team. He has no strategy to defeat the radical Islamists. In fact, the Taliban are making a comeback in Afghanistan too.

Elliott Abrams, an expert on foreign policy and national security, analyzed Obama’s U.N. speech yesterday. He writes that Obama’s speech was “filled with nice lines that unfortunately bear no relationship . . . to reality.”

Abrams notes Obama’s tough talk against the Assad regime, writing that Obama “stood firmly for inaction.”

Obama criticized Russian aggression in Ukraine, saying that the world “cannot stand by when the sovereignty and territorial integrity of a nation is flagrantly violated.” Abrams adds that Obama is “precisely ‘standing by.'”

Time and again the world has watched Obama draw redlines and make grand pronouncements, only to do nothing. Abrams charitably concluded his analysis by writing, “Today was vintage Obama, and one can only be thankful that his next U.N. speech will be his last.”

The Left’s Tactics

Planned Parenthood President Cecil Richards testified before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee today. As expected, she was unapologetic about Planned Parenthood’s role in harvesting baby body parts.

With the Obama Administration firmly behind it, the organization is going on the attack. The New York Times reported over the weekend that women “paid by Planned Parenthood, protested Mrs. Fiorina at a campaign appearance in Iowa, throwing condoms and chanting, ‘Women are watching, and we vote.'”

The Times has since conveniently edited its reporting, writing that the women were merely “affiliated” with Planned Parenthood. Whether the women were paid or were affiliated — they were “shock troops” whose goal is to silence the pro-life movement.

Is that how a supposedly non-profit organization, which receives hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars, should deal with those who question its agenda and practices?

This sorry episode exposes the ugliness of the left’s tactics and serves as a warning about the kind of slash and burn campaign we can expect as the 2016 race heats up.

The People vs. The Elites

The respected Pew Research Center released a major report yesterday on immigration. The report marked the 50th anniversary of the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act, which dramatically changed immigration policy in America.

The Pew report found a major disconnect between the American people and our cultural and political elites on the issue of immigration. For example, recent immigration reform proposals have tended to increase levels of immigration into the country. But the American people do not favor more immigration.

According to the Pew survey, only 15% of Americans believe current levels of immigration should be increased. Thirty-four percent say immigration levels should be kept at current levels, while 49% believe immigration should be decreased.

A major reason why more than 80% of Americans want a pause in immigration is that 66% of Americans do not believe current immigrants are assimilating or embracing American culture. More than three-quarters of Americans believe immigrants should learn English in order to succeed here. But a solid majority (59%) thinks they are not doing so.

Fighting For Religious Freedom

Last week’s Values Voter Summit was a smashing success. The event, the premier gathering of social conservatives in Washington, D.C., is always a highlight of my year.

There are many serious issues confronting our nation right now. But one of the most critical is the collapse of religious freedom in the world and the increasing persecution of Christians and Jews. That was the focus of my remarks at the Values Voter Summit last week. If you missed my address, you can watch it here.

Values Voters Stand With Cruz

Senator Ted Cruz won the Values Voter straw poll — for the third year in a row. Cruz won 35%, while Dr. Ben Carson finished second with 18%, followed by Gov. Mike Huckabee at 14% and Sen. Marco Rubio at 13%. No other candidates received double-digit support. Current GOP frontrunner Donald Trump finished fifth at 5%.

What about establishment favorite Jeb Bush? He got seven percent. Whoops! No, not seven percent — seven votes! Bush finished in 12th place — just barely ahead of Vermont socialist Bernie Sanders, who got five votes.

Many of you may be wondering who those folks were who backed Bernie Sanders. I don’t think they were values voters. We know leftists come to the event to monitor what is said and to stir up trouble. As long as they are paid registrants, they can vote in the straw poll.

And Sanders was the clear favorite among the left-wing contingent that voted in the poll. Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and Jim Webb got one vote each.

Bush’s poor performance may have had something to do with the fact that he declined to speak at this year’s event. Not only did Jeb not go, his campaign evidently did not think it was worth sending supporters in order to make a good showing in the straw poll.

What that seemingly signals is that Bush doesn’t care about how he is doing among the most significant gathering of social conservatives in Washington, D.C.

Or he may be signaling to the media that he doesn’t want the support of values voters. Bush has tried to appeal to the media before with comments about being willing to “lose the primary to win the general” election.

Boehner Fires Back

Speaker John Boehner’s surprise announcement that he will retire from Congress at the end of October continued to dominate headlines over the weekend. His announcement was greeted with wild applause at the Values Voter Summit.

The frustration between the conservative grassroots and the Washington political establishment boiled over this weekend. On CBS yesterday, the speaker blasted his conservative critics, comparing them to “false prophets” from the Bible for making “unrealistic promises.”

That’s really not helpful as our movement tries to defeat Hillary Clinton or whomever the left nominates. Former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, who lost his primary race last year, and other establishment types continued to bash conservatives.

Democrats don’t do that. They never preemptively surrender or talk about what they can’t do. In fact, they say, “Yes we can!” Remember that theme from Obama’s campaign?

But Cantor and GOP elites spent all their time over the weekend explaining why they are powerless. When conservative voters hear that, they become demoralized and wonder what was the point of electing Republicans in 2010 and 2014.

The fact of the matter is that there are things Republicans in Congress can do. For example, we should be voting down Obama’s judicial nominees as too left-wing.

The upcoming budget deal will give Obama everything he wants. Nothing will reflect conservative priorities. If that is the case, we should tell President Obama not to bother sending any more nominees to the Senate for confirmation. Don’t even think about trying to fill a Supreme Court vacancy.

If Obama refuses to compromise — if Obama is willing to shut down the government over taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood of all things — Republicans have to fight back as best they can.

It is rich of Boehner to say that even when we have majorities, Obama still has the veto and we can’t override the veto. Well what about times when the president needs a supermajority — like to ratify his Iran treaty? What did Republicans do? They changed the rules so that we had to come up with a supermajority to block it.

I fully appreciate the power of the presidency. I have seen it firsthand when Ronald Reagan battled Ted Kennedy and Tip O’Neill. But Congress is not a subservient branch of government. It is supposed to be a co-equal branch of government. It is time the GOP majority started acting like one!

Poll Position

The latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows a major shift in the GOP presidential race may be taking place. Dr. Ben Carson has doubled his support since the previousNBC/Journal poll and is now just one point behind — essentially tied with — Donald Trump.

Trump earns 21% to Carson’s 20%. Carly Fiorina and Marco Rubio are tied at 11%. No other candidate earns double-digit support.

In the Democrat primary, Hillary Clinton leads Bernie Sanders by seven points — 42% to 35%, with Joe Biden picking up 17%. It’s interesting to note that a clear majority of Democrats prefer candidates other than Hillary.

“Season of our Rejoicing!”

Carol and I wish all of our Jewish friends and supporters a blessed Sukkot as they celebrate God’s providence.

Values Voter Summit

The Values Voter Summit is underway! Click here to watch it live online.

C-Span 3 will be broadcasting the event beginning at 2:00 p.m. Today’s speakers include: Ted Cruz, Rick Santorum, Donald Trump, Mike Huckabee, Ben Carson and Bobby Jindal.

I will be addressing the Summit later this afternoon around 4:00 p.m. It’s your support that makes opportunities like this possible. Thank you, friends!

The Speaker Steps Down

Speaker John Boehner stunned the D.C. political establishment this morning when he announced that he would resign from Congress at the end of October.

Conservatives have grown increasingly frustrated with his leadership. So much so that Rep. Mark Meadows filed a resolution at the end of July to “vacate the chair” — the speaker’s chair.

During his remarks at the Values Voter Summit this morning, Senator Marco Rubio’s best applause linecame when he informed the crowd of Boehner’s resignation.

Media Manipulation

If you watched any of the news coverage of Pope Francis’ visit to Washington, D.C., you undoubtedly saw the little girl who “braved the barricades” to get a message to the pontiff. It turns out that her parents are illegal immigrants and she wanted the pope’s help in keeping them in the country because she is afraid they might be deported.

It was a touching moment, and anything but spontaneous. The Associated Press reports that the group Full Rights for Immigrants Coalition had been planning this stunt from the moment it learned Francis was coming to America. Had she failed to get attention in D.C., the group was prepared to travel to New York and Philadelphia to repeat this stunt.

This manufactured event is one more example of how public opinion is being manipulated by left-wing special interests. Remember “hands up, don’t shoot”? The left-wing media don’t question the favored narrative, they just take the bait hook, line and sinker.

On a different subject, there is more evidence that “Ahmed the clockmaker,” is part of a similar setup involving various Muslim special interest groups and a family with a long history of exploiting the American media.

The Pope’s Priorities

The Obama White House is certainly pleased with Pope Francis’ visit so far. The left-wing media are ecstatic today, hailing him as a critic of capitalism and a champion of climate change.

I am hearing a lot of disappointment from traditional Catholics. If you are among our many Catholic friends, I would be interested in your feedback about the pope’s visit and his remarks.

But setting American politics aside for a moment, I want to mention something that I felt was almost unforgivable. I remember when Pope John Paul II returned to Poland, his homeland. Every step of the way, he confronted the communist government there.

John Paul II defied every attempt the regime made to manage his presence, to prevent him from speaking with dissidents. You can read more about this incredible event in a great biography by George Weigel entitled “The End and the Beginning.”

That kind of bold leadership, a willingness to speak truth to power is what people expect from the leader of the Catholic Church. In contrast, Pope Francis went to Cuba and met with an aging dictator who has done nothing but bring suffering to the Cuban people.

Under the Castro regime, hundreds of Catholic churches and schools were closed. The church was driven underground. Only last year did the communist government finally lift its ban on the construction of new churches.

Hundreds of dissidents were arrested during Pope Francis’ visit to Cuba. He made no attempt to meetwith them.

I hope the pope at least asked President Obama to get his foot off the necks of the Little Sisters of the Poor. Think about that: Obama won’t lift a finger to investigate Planned Parenthood, but he’ll bring the full weight and power of the federal government to bear against a group of nuns.

Obama’s Priorities

Expansionist China regularly threatens the United States. It has hacked the personnel files of the government workers. Security analysts fear lives could be in danger as a result. Xi Jinping, president of China, mocks Barack Obama with some regularity in his public comments. China is threatening our allies and cleaning our clocks at the trade table.

But don’t worry. The major newspapers are reporting this morning that the president of China and the president of the United States are close to an agreement to control the weather.

Xi’s pledge to lower carbon emissions is meaningless — he has little control over China’s collapsing economy and nothing lowers carbon emissions faster than a cratering economy.

And when it comes to enforcing this new agreement, the administration has already signaled that its intention, just like the Iran deal, is to bypass Congress completely.

So President Obama will make an agreement on what is perhaps the least important issue, and he intends to enforce it through regulation. His policies will stifle our economy, cost jobs and cause hardworking families to pay higher energy bills.

You did it! Online donations peaked yesterday and we reached our fundraising goal. Thank you, my friends!

You know the stakes in 2016. I promise to do everything I can to make sure our values prevail, and I will be asking for your support throughout the challenging weeks and months ahead. Thank you for standing with me.

President Of Hypocrisy

I couldn’t help but notice President Obama’s remarks yesterday at the White House. With Pope Francis seated just a few feet behind him, Obama had the audacity to claim, “You remind us that people are only truly free when they can practice their faith freely. Here in the United States, we cherish religious liberty.”

This president brought the full weight and power of our massive federal government to bear on the Little Sisters of the Poor and more than a dozen Catholic dioceses, trying to force them, under penalty of crushing fines, to violate the teachings of their faith.

This president refused to defend traditional marriage laws in court and stood against the biblical values of millions of Americans. His agenda has resulted in individuals being punished simply for not wanting to be forced to participate in ceremonies that violate their faith.

Are the bakers, florists, photographers and others who have been harassed, sued and fined for their faith, thanks to Obama’s policies, “truly free”?

Left-wing media elites are falling all over themselves to spotlight areas of agreement between Obama and Pope Francis, such as immigration and climate change. Did you know that Pope Francis met with the Little Sisters of the Poor yesterday? His visit highlighted the hypocrisy of Obama’s claims about “cherishing religious liberty.”

Ayatollah Demands More

As we have told you repeatedly, President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry negotiated a terrible nuclear deal with Iran. They ignored a law requiring congressional review of the deal and instead took it to the United Nations for approval first. They used every procedural trick to prevent an up or down vote in the Senate.

Commonsense improvements to the treaty, such as demanding the release of American hostages and requiring Iran to recognize Israel’s right to exist, were dismissed out of hand by Obama and his Senate allies.

The White House insisted this was the perfect deal and any changes would jeopardize it. Evidently, someone forgot to tell the ayatollah, who is demanding more U.S. concessions.

According to various reports, the ayatollah is demanding that sanctions be lifted immediately and entirely, not merely suspended pending Iranian compliance. During a recent speech, the ayatollah declared, “If the sanctions are not going to be lifted, there will be no agreement. . . Freezing or suspension [of the sanctions] is unacceptable to me.”

And the same administration that initially refused to go to Capitol Hill appears willing to crawl hat in hand next week to the U.N. to see if it can accommodate the ayatollah’s demand for more concessions.

The Refugee Crisis

The European refugee crisis has dominated the headlines for weeks now. The human flood is testing Europe’s commitment to its open borders policies. I’m going to let the Washington Post, a liberal newspaper, speak for itself. Consider these excerpts from a news article in this morning’s Post:

“Moving among the tens of thousands of Syrian war refugees passing through the train stations of Europe are many who are neither Syrian nor refugees, but hoping to blend into the mass migration and find a back door to the West.

“There are well-dressed Iranians speaking Farsi who insist they are members of the persecuted Yazidis of Iraq. There are Indians who don’t speak Arabic but say they are from Damascus. There are Pakistanis, Albanians, Egyptians, Kosovars, Somalis and Tunisians from countries with plenty of poverty and violence, but no war.

“It should come as no surprise that many migrants seem to be pretending they are someone else. The prize, after all, is the possibility of benefits, residency and work in Europe.”

My friends, the evidence increasingly suggests that this isn’t a “refugee crisis.” The U.N. acknowledges that more than 70% of these “refugees” are men — not women and children.

Nevertheless, at least 72 House Democrats are demanding that we take in 100,000 more refugees, as if we aren’t already doing our fair share.

No country is more generous than the United States. We allow nearly one million legal immigrants into the country every year, even though wages are flat and many people are struggling to find full-time employment, especially minorities.

How many more should we take in? Should there be a limit at all? There are a billion people living in poverty around the world who would love to come live next door to you and me. What jobs will they do? Who pays for their benefits? Open borders and a welfare state will crush our own workers.

My point is this: Immigration policies based largely on compassion are threatening to overwhelm Europe. They would bankrupt us too. How is that compassionate to hard-working, struggling American taxpayers of all races?

Poll Position

Four polls have been released since last week’s CNN debate, and all four find Donald Trump leading the field. There are some variations within the polls, but here’s where the race stands when you average the results:

Trump 24%
Carson 16%
Fiorina 12%
Bush 10%
Rubio 9%
Cruz 7%
Christie 4%
Huckabee 4%
Kasich 3%
Paul 2%

One thing is obvious from these results: The Donald has taken a hit. Prior to the debate, three polls showed Trump earning 30% or more. Now he’s down to 24%.

By the way, Trump is getting attacked for many of his statements, including his promise to make America great again. Barack Obama took a swing at him recently, saying, “There is nothing particularly patriotic or American about talking down America. America is great right now. America is winning right now.” (This is coming from a man who promised to “fundamentally transform” America.)

But more Americans seemingly agree with Trump.

According to a new Bloomberg poll, 66% of Americans say the country is headed in the wrong direction. When asked to describe the greatness of America, 47% said we were “falling behind” and 25% said we were “failing.”

That’s 72% of Americans who aren’t feeling so great after seven years of “hope and change.”

Shout Your Abortion?

Pope Francis is in Washington, D.C., today. He has made headlines recently for encouraging people to have mercy toward those who have committed what the church teaches is a sin — abortion. I have visited many crisis pregnancy centers, and often it is women who have had abortions who are the most articulate and passionate defenders of life.

But our increasingly secular society has created a culture in which some women, instead of seeking mercy, are proud of their abortions and want to shout it from the rooftops. Pro-abortion activists have started a social media campaign called “#ShoutYourAbortion,” because they are upset about the idea that abortion is a sad or negative event.

One of the women behind the new campaign said, “I had an abortion at Planned Parenthood last year and it was a great experience. Not only am I not ashamed, but I know I’m incredibly lucky to have access to this choice and we need to keep it that way.”

I have spoken repeatedly about a culture of death. I know women who have had abortions. It has haunted them their whole life. That is the normal human emotional response — to regret the taking of an innocent human life.

But the culture today, ripped from its Judeo-Christian moorings and encouraged by left-wing politicians, has devolved so that some women, rather than finding meaning in creating life, are celebrating the taking of innocent lives. That radical distortion of the human psyche is hard to comprehend.

Please stand with CWF as we work to build a culture of life in America.

Xi’s Next

With Pope Francis in Washington, you may not have heard much about yesterday’s arrival of Chinese Leader Xi Jinping in Washington State. He is meeting with American business executives in Seattle before he comes to Washington, D.C., to meet with President Obama. I want you to read how one media report describes today’s Seattle summit:

“Chinese officials have summoned top American tech executives to Seattle for a forum on Wednesday in a show of force that could make the Obama Administration’s standing in Silicon Valley appear weak by comparison. Beijing . . . reportedly pressured major Silicon Valley players to send their chief executives to what is normally an annual summit for midlevel management, threatening regulatory scrutiny if they didn’t comply. . . . Business groups and Silicon Valley say they have no choice but to show up.” [Emphasis added.]

The list of “summoned” CEOs reads like a who’s who of corporate America: Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, IBM, Google and Facebook, General Motors, Walt Disney, etc.

When President Xi arrives in Washington, D.C., he’s going to get some of the highest honors our nation can bestow upon a foreign leader. A state dinner will be held in his honor. As one report put it, “For the Chinese side, Xi’s meetings with Obama and U.S. business leaders offer the chance to bolster [Xi’s] stature at home.”

I raise this because not a day goes by when China does not threaten our interests. Chinese fighter jets came dangerously close to one of our reconnaissance planes recently. But Xi is in Seattle lobbying U.S. corporate interests to pressure our leaders on trade issues. That’s interesting.

The last time a foreign leader dared to lobby Americans, he got slammed by President Obama and the U.S. media. His name, as I’m sure you’ll recall, is Bibi Netanyahu.

The Israeli prime minister was treated like a pariah because he dared to come to America to warn the nation that a nuclear-armed Iran would be a danger to his country and ours.

Only in Obama’s America does an ally get ostracized while the leader of a hostile nation gets a state dinner. That just doesn’t seem kosher to me.

Hillary Clinton is no doubt rejoicing that Pope Francis is in town and dominating the headlines. If he weren’t here, more attention might be focused on her ever-growing email scandal.

In last 24 hours, Clinton’s campaign has been hit with a series of contradictions and lies regarding her use of a private e-mail server. I won’t bore you with all the details, but here are the latest headlines:

  • “FBI Said to Recover Personal E-Mails From Hillary Clinton Server,” Bloomberg.
  • “State Department’s Account Of E-Mail Request Differs From Clinton’s,” Washington Post.
  • “More Emails Surface In Hillary Clinton Benghazi Probe,” Politico.

Let me know if you hear about any of these issues on the nightly news.

    The Pro-Abortion Party

The Senate had an opportunity today to show the world what a humane and compassionate country we are. Unfortunately, it failed miserably when Senate Democrats voted to filibuster legislation saving unborn babies from late-term abortions.

All but three Democrats — Casey (PA), Donnelly (IN) and Manchin (WV) — essentially voted to permit late-term babies to be aborted. All but two Republicans — Collins (ME) and Kirk (IL) — voted pro-life.

This should not be a controversial issue. The Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act is so named because studies indicate that children at an advanced stage of pregnancy are capable of feeling the pain inflicted by the abortionist’s instruments.

Only seven nations permit abortions under most circumstances past 20 weeks. Polls show that the American people — especially women— overwhelmingly oppose late-term abortions.

Unfortunately, today’s Democratic Party is so dominated by pro-abortion extremists that 93% of Senate Democrats voted to block this commonsense pro-life bill.

Help me defeat these pro-abortion extremists. Stand with CWF now.

    Walker Out

The Republican presidential field narrowed again yesterday with Scott Walker’s exit from the race. Governor Scott Walker has made a great contribution to conservatism in Wisconsin. He is young and likely has a bright future ahead of him.

Walker’s early and sudden departure from the campaign is a reminder of just how often the conventional wisdom is wrong.

The early thinking was that governors had the inside track to the nomination. They were Washington outsiders. They had no voting records to pick apart. They had proven executive experience and demonstrated leadership.

Well, the first two candidates to end their campaigns have been governors (Perry and Walker), while Senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio are still very much in the running.

    CAIR vs. Carson

Dr. Ben Carson might be the next candidate to drop out if the Council On American Islamic Relations (CAIR) has anything to do with it. CAIR is calling on Dr. Ben Carson to drop out after he suggested that an Islamist should not be elected president.

In one interview Dr. Carson clarified his remarks by saying that anybody can be president as long as they put the Constitution first. Islamists, who believe in the supremacy of Sharia law, do not do that.

That clarification resulted in another round of outrage. But Carson’s critics have their own agenda, and Dr. Carson should not back down.

Sharia law essentially says there can be no faith but Islam. That is why it is illegal to proselytize in many Islamic nations. In some countries, those who convert to another religion face the death penalty. So on its face, Sharia law contradicts the First Amendment’s guarantee of freedom of religion. And that’s just for starters.

Every liberal Democrat and every left-wing reporter should be asked this question: Would you be in favor of a congressional majority that supported Sharia law?

Every feminist, gay rights advocate and abortion supporter should be asked: Would you vote for a Muslim candidate who believes in Sharia law?

These folks routinely insist that Christian conservatives shouldn’t run for office because they might govern based on their biblical values. But how can the same leftists insist it is bigotry for Dr. Carson or anyone else to say, “I don’t want to be governed by a Muslim who believes in Sharia law over the Constitution?”

Pope Francis arrives in the United States today. Some church leaders have suggested that Pope Francis will make both sides of the aisle uncomfortable during his remarks before Congress Thursday morning. Perhaps he will.

What I fear is that the left-wing media will ignore anything the pope says about the sanctity of life and marriage as God’s ordained institution between one man and one woman, while hyping anything he says about climate change and immigration.

Our Catholic friends believe that the Holy Father is infallible when he speaks from his official capacity as leader of the Catholic Church on matters of faith and morals. I think most of them would concede that he is not infallible when it comes to economics and the environment.

It would be wonderful if on Francis’ trip to America someone had the opportunity to explain to Pope Francis that the poor in the Third World will languish in poverty longer if the radical environmentalists’ war on fossil fuels is successful.

One billion people in the world still do not have electricity. They will get it from coal, oil and natural gas. They won’t get it from windmills or solar cells unless they want to wait another 50 years.

Sadly, I doubt this fact will be relayed to him by either the socialist in the White House, Barack Obama, or the socialist mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio.

    Day Of Atonement

Jews throughout the world will begin observing Yom Kippur at sunset today. This is the holiest day of the Jewish year and it is a solemn day. It is known as the Day of Atonement because it marks God’s forgiveness of His chosen people for the sin of the golden calf.

In Israel, security forces are on high alert due to recent terror attacks. Yesterday, an Islamic Jihad operative blew himself up when a hand grenade he intended to use against Israeli soldiers prematurely went off. This morning, an 18 year-old Palestinian woman was shot and killed after she attacked Israeli soldiers with a knife.

Many Israelis remember the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Arab armies took advantage of the holiday to launch a surprise attack against Israel. After intense fighting throughout the month of October, Israel ultimately prevailed.

On this solemn day, please join Carol and me in praying for the peace of Jerusalem and for a peaceful Yom Kippur for our Jewish friends.
