Hamas Prepares For War

A couple of stories from the Middle East today caught my attention. Radical Islam is on the march and, as usual, Western leaders seem oblivious.

Today’s Washington Post front page story on Hamas should be required reading in Congress. A Post reporter recently got access to terrorist training camps run by Hamas in Gaza. More than 17,000 teenagers and young men were trained to fire Kalashnikov rifles, throw grenades and build improvised explosive devices.

One 16-year-old, who was trained with rocket-propelled grenades and mortars, told the Post, “I want to fight Israel. I want to kick them out of our land. I am ready now.” A 15-year-old said, “I joined the camp because I want to know how to confront the Jews. . .” Another said, “Every day we have someone from Hamas giving us a lesson on jihad and the importance of it.”

One Hamas trainer said they had to turn away hundreds of 12 and 13-year-old boys. “They were standing on their tiptoes trying to get in.” Referring to last year’s war in which more 2,000 Palestinians died, he added, “We have plenty who want to join. They want to retaliate. They want revenge.” Of course, what he failed to mention is that Hamas started that war.

During the graduation ceremony, a senior Hamas commander told the young jihadis that Hamas was “busy getting ready for the next battle,” and that they were preparing the “next generation . . . for Jerusalem, the West Bank and Palestine.”

My friends, no one wants peace more than the Israelis do. But where are the peace partners with whom the Israelis are supposed to negotiate?

Let me remind you that Israel gave up Gaza ten years ago, hoping for peace. Look what has happened! The Post writes that Hamas has waged three wars against Israel in the past six years and it is clearly preparing for another one. Thousands of Palestinian families are sending their children to terrorist training camps to become jihadis, to learn how to kill Jews.

Muslim Brotherhood Visits The State Department

The State Department hosted a delegation of Muslim Brotherhood leaders this week. The Brotherhood are radical Islamists who ascended to power in Egypt in 2011 with the support of the Obama Administration.

The Egyptian people rose up against the Brotherhood after it failed to curtail corruption and when its leader, Mohamed Morsi, unsurprisingly attempted to seize dictatorial powers. The Egyptian military arrested Morsi and ousted the Brotherhood in 2013.

A State Department official justified the meeting saying, “We meet with representatives from across the political spectrum in Egypt.” That’s an odd way to put it. Egypt banned the Brotherhood in December 2013 as a terrorist organization. Four other countries also consider it to be a terrorist group.

And with good reason. It’s slogan is: “Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. The Quran is our law. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope. Allahu Akbar!”

So it really shouldn’t surprise anyone that, just two days after its members were walking the halls of our State Department, the Muslim Brotherhood is now issuing a call for jihad against the Egyptian government. A statement posted on the Brotherhood’s website reads:

“. . .we are in the process of a new phase . . . where we recall the meanings of jihad and prepare ourselves, our wives, our sons, our daughters, and whoever marched on our path to a long, uncompromising jihad, and during this stage we ask for martyrdom.”

Amazing, isn’t it? The administration is trying to stop Benjamin Netanyahu, the leader of America’s friend and ally, from coming to the United States to warn Congress and the American people about the threat of a nuclear Iran. But it puts out the welcome mat for our enemies.

Taliban Not Terrorists?

Earlier this week, a White House spokesman argued that the Taliban wasn’t a terrorist group. Today, the Taliban is claiming responsibility for an attack that killed three Americans in Kabul. And CNN is reporting that one of the Taliban leaders freed from Gitmo last year in exchange for Bowe Bergdahl has been communicating with the Taliban about “trying to engage again in militant activity.”

No Romney Re-Run

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney took himself out of the 2016 presidential contest today. In a call with donors and supporters, Romney said, “I’ve decided it is best to give other leaders in the party the opportunity to become our next nominee.”

In what is widely viewed as a jab at Jeb Bush, Romney added, “I believe that one of our next generation of Republican leaders, one who may not be as well-known as I am today . . . may well emerge as being better able to defeat the Democrat nominee. In fact, I expect and hope that to be the case.” Coincidentally or not, Romney is reportedly having dinner this evening with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

While Romney bows out, Hillary may be hitting the brakes. Politico reported yesterday that Mrs. Clinton may delay her announcement until well into the summer. One top operative said, “She doesn’t feel under any pressure, and they see no primary challenge on the horizon.”

It’s no secret that some progressives despise the idea of a “Clinton coronation,” but no one of any stature appears willing to take her on. That has some Democrats worried. There’s little doubt Hillary would be a formidable nominee, but what if she doesn’t run? (There are plenty of reasons for her not to run.)

Perhaps Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) would jump in, but some pundits are noting that absent Hillary, “the Democratic bench is shockingly weak.”

Israel vs. Iran

The American left is absolutely apoplectic about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address before Congress. The New York Times, the unofficial mouthpiece of the Obama White House, is even attacking Ron Dermer, Israel’s ambassador to the United States.

A Times story today headlined, “White House’s Dismay Over Netanyahu Visit Extends To Ambassador,” contains leaks from senior officials who felt it was necessary to demonstrate just “how angry [the Obama White House] is.” As my friend Bill Kristol noted, the Obama White House “doesn’t get angry at . . . the Islamic Republic of Iran. . . . It is only with respect to the Jewish state that the Obama White House is impatient, peremptory, and angry.”

House Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi said yesterday that Netanyahu’s visit “could send the wrong message in terms of giving diplomacy a chance.” Really?

President Obama has been giving diplomacy a chance for six years now. The problem is that the Iranians don’t take him seriously. The mullahs have watched Obama retreat from Iraq and Afghanistan. They have watched him do next to nothing when Putin invaded Ukraine. They watched him back away from his own red line in Syria.

They have watched him reverse American policy on Cuba and pressure Israel time and again. They saw how Obama virtually sided with Hamas in last summer’s war. It is Obama’s hostility toward Israel and weakness toward our enemies that is sending the wrong message to Tehran.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, Hezbollah, the radical Iranian-backed terrorist group, attacked an Israeli convoy yesterday killing two soldiers and wounding seven more.

Here’s what you need to know: Hamas is bad, but it isn’t as dangerous as Hezbollah. Hezbollah has stockpiled tens of thousands of missiles and rockets, and there are fears that it too has dug terror tunnels into Israel.

When you read that Hezbollah is probing and attacking Israel, you need to understand that it is really Iran that is attacking Israel. That is why a senior Iranian general was killed this month when Israel took out several top Hezbollah commanders. (By the way, Iran is now threatening to assassinate Benjamin Netanyahu’s children.)

But it isn’t Israel that the ayatollah denounces as “the great Satan.” That slur is reserved for America. When Prime Minister Netanyahu speaks to Congress, his goal is to warn us that Iran’s ultimate desire is not just the destruction of Israel, but the destruction of America as well.

The Right To Work

During her confirmation hearing yesterday, Loretta Lynch, President Obama’s replacement for Attorney General Eric Holder, offered an interesting perspective on the concept of the right to work. Under questioning from Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Lynch suggested that illegal immigrants had a right to work in the United States. Consider this exchange:

SESSIONS: Let me ask you this: In the workplace of America today . . . who has more right to a job in this country? A lawful immigrant who’s here, a green-card holder or a citizen, or a person who entered the country unlawfully?
LYNCH: Well, Senator, I believe that the right and the obligation to work is one that’s shared by everyone in this country regardless of how they came here. And certainly, if someone here, regardless of status, I would prefer that they be participating in the workplace than not participating in the workplace. . .”

Not surprisingly, Lynch also defended Obama’s executive amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants. But the idea that American citizens should have to compete with illegal immigrants for jobs is not a popular one with the public. A 2014 exit poll found that 80% of voters felt that new jobs should go only to citizens and legal immigrants.

Under questioning by Senator Lindsey Graham yesterday, Lynch also admitted that in 2006 she signed a legal brief on behalf of Planned Parenthood defending partial-birth abortion. And when Graham pressed her to explain how states could ban polygamy if they could not legally define marriage as the union of one man and one woman, Lynch could not answer.

If you would like to share your thoughts with your senators about Lynch’s answers to these questions and her confirmation as Attorney General, call Capitol Hill now at 202-224-3121.

Pence & Propaganda

Indiana Governor Mike Pence is a rising star on the right and a growing concern for the left. So when I read reports this week that Governor Pence was trying to set up a “state run news agency,” I was immediately suspicious.

I’ve known Mike since before he was elected to Congress. He was a talk radio host, and the idea that he would favor a state-run propaganda agency is absurd. Sure enough, the ludicrous story from the Indianapolis Star was written by a left-wing reporter who once worked for Michael Dukakis.

What the governor’s office was really trying to do was streamline the dissemination of state agency press releases by creating a website that would host them all in one location. That way citizens and reporters could go to one site to learn what was new at all the agencies. But a left-wing reporter with his own agenda was able to spin an effort to promote transparency into something sinister.

The real state-run media is made up of left-wing activists who segue from the political arena into the media where they continue to be left-wing political activists advocating a big government agenda. It’s not surprising that a former Dukakis aide would publish a hit piece against a conservative governor.

But I was disappointed to see some conservative sites and reporters who should know better parroting the distorted propaganda of the left-wing media. Too often conservatives are quick to form circular firing squads instead of defending our own guys.

The damage to Pence is not significant, but it is a reminder that the left doesn’t play fair and that too many reporters are advancing their own liberal agendas rather than the news.

Savage TV

In today’s hypersensitive, politically correct culture, conservatives are afforded little margin for error. The slightest offense or error in judgment can often end a career. Sometimes it is something incredibly minor, but the merciless left-wing media smells blood and goes for the jugular.

For example, Dan Quayle added an extra letter to potato and the narrative of “Dan the dunce” was set in stone. Yet with liberals, it seems the slate is wiped clean every day. There is a disgusting double standard in how the media treat liberals and conservatives.

I was reminded about that double standard this morning when I read that some Hollywood executives thought it would be a really good idea to make a TV show about Dan Savage. And not just on some obscure cable channel that nobody watches but on ABC, a network owned by the Walt Disney Company.

Savage is a militant, left-wing activist who has never let any boundary stop him from promoting his radical homosexual agenda, not even assault. When I ran for the Republican presidential nomination, Savage wormed his way into my Iowa campaign headquarters and knowingly tried to infect me, my campaign staff and volunteers with the flu.

He went around licking glasses, door knobs and office equipment, and then he had the audacity to write about it. As a result of incriminating himself, he was charged with voter fraud and sentenced to community service.

Was this just a youthful indiscretion? No. Savage was 35 when he infiltrated my campaign. Nor was it an isolated incident. Savage was responsible for a disgusting online smear campaign against Senator Rick Santorum and tweeted his desire that Sarah Palin develop cancer.

Savage is perhaps best known for his anti-bullying “It Gets Better” campaign. But a few years ago, he was asked to address aspiring young journalists and his speech quickly devolved into a savage attack on the Bible. The man who is supposedly dedicated to teaching tolerance was, true to form, incredibly intolerant of Judeo-Christian values and anyone who believes in them.

About 100 students had the courage to get up and walk out of Savage’s profanity-laced, bigoted rant. But Savage was just getting warmed up. The anti-bullying crusader bullied the students who left, calling them “pansy a–ed.”

And this is the man ABC feels is worthy of a TV show. Walt Disney must be rolling over in his grave.

TAKE ACTION: Click here to tell ABC that a radical anti-Christian bigot does not deserve a TV show. (Be certain to select “ABC Programming Feedback” in the pulldown menu.)

Plan B On Amnesty

House Republicans are reportedly planning to sue President Obama in federal court to stop his unilateral executive amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants. It’s not yet clear whether they will join the lawsuit already filed by more than two states or if they will file their own lawsuit.

Some critics may accuse the GOP leadership of attempting to duck responsibility, but I believe this is an important step. In fact, it can be reasonably argued that it is the one action most likely to succeed in stopping Obama’s amnesty.

Yes, the House and Senate should vote on legislation and/or funding measures. It is important that voters know exactly where their representative and senators stand on the issue of amnesty. But I have yet to hear the legislative strategy that overcomes a Democrat filibuster in the Senate or Obama’s veto.

While the courts move slowly, the judiciary has not been afraid to slap down Obama’s overreach. Last year the Supreme Court declared Obama’s controversial recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board to be unconstitutional. The decision was unanimous — 9-to-0.

Meanwhile, Obama continues to turn the concept of border security and enforcement upside down. The Associated Press reports today that “The Obama administration has ordered immigration agents to ask immigrants they encounter living in the country illegally whether they might qualify” for Obama’s executive amnesty.

Unbelievably, it gets worse. Obama is trying to release criminals too. The AP adds, “Agents also have been told to review government files to identify any jailed immigrants they might be able to release under the program.”

This is astonishing. Our Border Patrol agents are charged with keeping bad people out of the country. Obama is essentially turning our Border Patrol officers into Walmart greeters! “Hi, welcome to America. Enjoy your stay.”

Obama Backs Down

Obama is dropping his bizarre idea to tax college savings accounts, known as 529 plans. The plans are used by millions of American families to help them save money tax free for college expenses.

As a senator, Obama voted in 2006 to make 529 tax savings permanent. Then, as the Wall Street Journal noted, Barack and Michelle took advantage of a “loophole” that allowed them to “front-load five years’ worth of contributions, $240,000 in total for [their] two girls.”

Republicans were quick to denounce Obama’s latest middle class tax hike. And the idea was so poorly vetted that the White House was caught off guard by Democrat opposition as well. Even Nancy Pelosi opposed it!

This is a small victory to be sure. But it proves that when conservatives are united and on offensive even this White House can be restrained.

Kudos To Michelle

First Lady Michelle Obama deserves a round of applause. While accompanying her husband on a trip to Saudi Arabia to meet the new king, Mrs. Obama refused to bend to the demands of radical Islamists. According to press reports, she wore pants, a “brightly colored jacket” and did not cover herself. Good for her!

Now if only she could convince her husband to identify the perpetrators of terrorist attacks as radical Islamists. That would be real progress.

Never Again

Seventy years ago today, Soviet forces liberated the Nazi concentration camps at Auschwitz, revealing some of the worst horrors of the Holocaust. More than one million people were systematically murdered at Auschwitz. Nearly all of them were Jews, killed as part of Hitler’s “final solution to the Jewish question,” which ultimately claimed six million Jewish lives.

In 2005, as Iran’s president was threatening a second Holocaust by vowing to “wipe Israel off the map,” the United Nations voted to recognize January 27th as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

In Poland today, about 300 Auschwitz survivors gathered to mark the anniversary. Commenting on the rising anti-Semitism that is sweeping across Europe, Roman Kent, president of the International Auschwitz Committee, choked back tears as he said, “We survivors do not want our past to be our children’s future.”

The Washington Post interviewed four Auschwitz survivors and posted their stories online. I want to share with you the remarks of Marta Wise, who now resides in Israel.

“I used to be an optimist until a few years ago, but the situation in the Middle East has changed and the world does not notice anything. Reading the newspaper in the past few days is just like reading the newspaper in the 1930s. The world has not changed at all. The bottom line is it can happen again and it is happening again in many places, not necessarily to the Jews, but to anyone.”

Sadly, Marta is right. It is astonishing to think that ten years after the U.N. vote establishing International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we are still negotiating with Iran over its nuclear weapons program. Meanwhile, militant Islamists are marauding across the Middle East vowing to kill hundreds of millions of people.

Pray that Western Civilization can muster the courage to defeat this evil just as we defeated the evil of Nazism 70 years ago.

Keystone Filibustered

Senate Democrats yesterday filibustered legislation authorizing construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. The pipeline has been through various stages of development and study since the Bush Administration. A CNN poll this month found that just 28% of Americans oppose the pipeline.

Yet after more than a week of debate and more than two dozen votes on amendments, Senate Democrats insist they still need more time to think it over. The truth is their minds are already made up — they have no intention of supporting the pipeline now, two weeks from now or ever.

Barack Obama and his Democrat allies are beholden to the radical environmentalist movement that would hamstring our economy with expensive and unreliable sources of energy.

Thanks to Obama’s promise to bankrupt the coal industry, which provides most of America’s electricity, and big government mandates, Americans are now paying record prices for electricity.

Red Spies, American Greens & Your Wallet

If you’ve been enjoying lower gas prices at the pump lately, thank the American energy industry, and fracking technology in particular, for making America one of the world’s leading energy producers. But not everyone is celebrating America’s successful energy revolution and lower gas prices.

Left-wing environmentalists don’t want you to use fossil fuels. If they had their way, they would make gas even more expensive — taxing it as much as the socialist governments in Europe so you’re paying $7 a gallon.

Sounds crazy, right? Well, that was the view of Steven Chu, Obama’s first Energy secretary. In 2008, Chu told the Wall Street Journal, “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.”

It was also a likely outcome of Obama’s failed cap and trade scheme. A Harvard study predicted that Obama’s plan to cap greenhouse gas emissions by taxing carbon would result in $7 a gallon gas.

These are not merely unintended consequences of misguided polices. As Chu’s quote, Obama’s vow to bankrupt the coal industry and his cap and trade scheme clearly demonstrate, this kind of financial pain is a deliberate objective of the left.

It’s done under the guise of fighting climate change, as if liberal politicians and government bureaucrats can control the earth’s climate. What hubris! Remember this the next time the topic of climate change comes up with friends and family members.

Meanwhile, the FBI arrested three Russian spies in Manhattan yesterday. According to ABC News the men were involved in economic espionage, partly aimed at America’s energy industry. But wait. . . there’s more. Consider this excerpt from a report in today’s Washington Free Beacon:

“A shadowy Bermudan company that has funneled tens of millions of dollars to anti-fracking environmentalist groups in the United States is run by executives with deep ties to Russian oil interests and offshore money laundering schemes involving members of President Vladimir Putin’s inner circle.”

Russia’s economy is heavily dependent on oil revenues and its latest budget was based on oil selling at least $100 a barrel. But thanks to fracking and other developments, oil is now trading around half that.

Energy is critical to our economy and our national security. If foreign governments are manipulating U.S. policy to the detriment of American consumers, businesses and taxpayers, Congress should be holding hearings and demanding answers from these left-wing environmental groups about their sources of funding.

Protocol?

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to get pummeled in Israeli and American media for accepting Speaker John Boehner’s invitation to address a joint session of Congress. What is the prime minister supposed to do? Congress has been overwhelmingly supportive of Israel, whereas Obama has been increasingly hostile.

The core argument the Obama White House is making against Netanyahu’s accepting the invitation from Speaker Boehner is that it violated protocol. But Obama has ignored protocol and the separation of powers time and time again.

  • March 2010 — Obama walked out of a White House meeting and refused to have his picture taken with Prime Minister Netanyahu.
  • May 2011 — Obama delivers a speech demanding Israel return to its pre-1967 borders, which many believe to be indefensible. In fact, they are sometimes referred to as “Auschwitz borders.”
  • September 2012 — Obama refuses to meet with Netanyahu in New York during a U.N. conference.
  • During last summer’s war with Hamas, Obama’s FAA accomplished what Hamas could not — stopping flights into Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport
  • The Obama White House also delayed shipments of desperately needed weapons to Israel.
  • Last October, high-level administration officials referred to Netanyahu as a “chickensh*t” and a “coward.”

How about the president’s protocol with Congress? When Obama traded five Taliban leaders for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, he not only violated protocol, he broke the law.

The president changed decades of established policy toward communist Cuba without even consulting Congress. In spite of repeated expressions of congressional will to keep the terrorist detention facility at Guantanamo Bay open, Obama continues his efforts to shut it down by freeing accused jihadists.

In spite of the Constitution’s clear delineation of powers between the three branches of government — executive, legislative and judicial — Obama routinely demands that Congress bend to his will or he will act on his own, as he has done repeatedly on immigration and Obamacare. Legislating from the Oval Office is a clear violation of protocol.

    A 21st Century Paul Revere

I’m not surprised that big media isn’t scrutinizing the White House’s laughable argument about protocol. What is harder to understand is why people like Chris Wallace and Shepard Smith at Fox News joined the media mob in criticizing the Israeli prime minister and congressional leaders.

Netanyahu is facing overwhelming pressure to cancel the trip. His political opponents in Israel are using the flap as evidence that he has undermined Israel’s relationship with the United States.

Israel is a vibrant democracy and its politics can be rough. But I would say to my friends in the Israeli opposition: You don’t have a problem with the United States. You have a problem with Barack Obama. And no Israeli leader will have a smooth relationship with Obama unless that leader surrenders to Obama’s unreasonable demands which would undermine Israel’s security.

If I were the prime minister, I would speak before Congress and use the venue to praise the American people and our long history of opposing tyranny. I would remind members of Congress that Israel has stood with America time and again, not because of oil or economic interests but because we share the same values.

Netanyahu can also perform an invaluable service by playing the role of a 21st century Paul Revere. He should tell members of Congress that he is not here merely asking America to help Israel but to warn us that the ultimate target of a nuclear Iran is the nation the mullahs denounce as “the great Satan” — the United States of America.

The American people will cheer such clear-headed thinking by a head of state since they have been deprived of such thinking for six long years.

    GOP Campaign Begins

The 2016 Republican presidential primary is underway. Iowa conservatives hosted a cattle call of possible contenders at a weekend conference led by my friend Rep. Steve King. Nearly a dozen likely candidates — John Bolton, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, Donald Trump and Scott Walker — spoke to the audience of more than 1,000 conservative activists.

Jeb Bush and Mitt Romney, who lead the pack according to most polls, weren’t there. While it’s unlikely either man would have received a rousing reception from the conservative crowd, some pundits say New Jersey Governor Chris Christie earned points just for showing up.

Judging from most media reports, the biggest “winner” from this event was Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, who greatly exceeded expectations.

The next big test of strength will come later this summer when the Iowa Republican Party holds its straw poll in Ames. The non-binding event has a mixed record of predicting caucus winners, but has in past years served to winnow the field. Stay tuned!

Meanwhile, the party has some fence-mending to do with grassroots activists after last week’s unforced error on abortion. You can read more about that issue in my latest opinion piece at The Daily Caller.

    Remembering The British Bulldog

Saturday marked the 50th anniversary of the death of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. In the fall of 2013, Carol and I spent a week in England, tracing the footsteps of Winston Churchill, one of our heroes.

We visited the War Room, where Churchill directed Britain’s war efforts during the darkest hours of the Nazi Blitz. We also visited Chartwell House, where Churchill lived (when he was not prime minister) from 1924 until his death in 1965.

Today we are facing a crisis of confidence similar to that which gripped Great Britain in the 1930s. Then as now, feckless leaders refuse to recognize growing dangers. Their desire to seek “peace in our time” blinds them to the naked ambitions of our enemies.

Western Civilization desperately needs a Winston Churchill today. As we fight the good fight for our country and our values, I hope Churchill’s words inspire you as they inspire me:

“Never give in — never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense.
Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

    “A Global Joke”

You might think that is a comment about Barack Obama’s foreign policy, but it is actually a statement about our immigration policy. There are disturbing reports from Capitol Hill that the so-called border security bill currently being drafted by the House Homeland Security Committee represents a step backwards.

First, The Daily Caller reported that the bill unbelievably reduces the amount of double-layer fencing along the border. Now, Kenneth Palinkas, president of a union representing 12,000 United States Citizenship and Immigration Service officials, is blasting the bill for undermining the enforcement powers of immigration officers. In a letter released yesterday, Palinkas wrote:

“H.R. 399 . . . does nothing to preclude anyone in the world from turning themselves in at the U.S. border and obtaining automatic entry and federal benefits. Almost anyone at all can call themselves an asylum-seeker and get in; it’s a global joke. . . .
“We admit individuals who have no business being admitted the United States, whether public charges, health risks, or radicalized Islamists, and in large numbers. It is unfair to employees, unfair to taxpayers, and unfair to anyone concerned about immigration security.”

    Jindal Gets It

I noted with interest something Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal said yesterday regarding immigration. While discussing our history and current threats, he said the following:

“We need to stand up and say, ‘If you want to come to America to be Americans, if you want to learn our language and our values, we welcome you here. But you can’t come here if you want to overthrow our culture, set up your own communities where you don’t abide by the same laws and freedoms we expect for everybody.’ . . . If people don’t think America is this great country, don’t come here. They can stay where they came from.”

I’ve written about America being a country in which we let a thousand flowers bloom. But what if there were an imaginary faith that felt black men and women were not people for the purposes of protection under the law. Would anyone say, “Come on in. This is a land that welcomes anyone who believes whatever they want”? Would we want to welcome such a group with open arms?

Let’s put aside the Islamist propaganda of our president and the ayatollah for a moment and look at the facts about Islamic countries around the world.

  • According to one recent report, Muslim-majority nations represent nine of the ten worst violators of religious liberty.
  • The status of women in Islamic countries is dismal. Two women are currently on trial for driving in Saudi Arabia. They didn’t hit anything. They were not intoxicated. Saudi women simply are not permitted to drive cars.
  • We know from polling that huge numbers of Muslims around the world support terrorism and the death penalty for leaving Islam.
  • And in a world reeking with anti-Semitism no other faith is so poisoned with that ancient evil as Islam. There is a reason attacks against Jews in Europe have increased as Muslim populations have grown.

Let’s put illegal immigration aside. Why isn’t there a serious national debate about whether we should be permitting legal immigration from those who think women should be treated like property, who reject religious pluralism and think you should be put to death if you insult Muhammad?

America’s great experiment in ordered liberty under God is not a suicide pact, as one Supreme Court justice famously said about the Constitution. Nothing in our history should require us to knowingly bring into the country those who in many cases appear to reject all of our founding principles.

    Radical Islam Must Be Defeated

I know it can be tempting to ignore events beyond our borders. But history has proven the dangers of doing so. That’s why I feel compelled to share with you the statements of German journalist Jurgen Todenhofer.

Todenhofer recently spoke with Al Jazeera about his brief time embedded with ISIS fighters in Iraq. Ponder this exchange:

Al Jazeera: What was the most difficult discussion or uncomfortable issues?

Todenhofer: . . . As far as our meetings with the ISIL fighters were concerned, the discussions were very hard. I have read the Quran many times in German translation, and I always asked them about the value of mercy in Islam. I didn’t see any mercy in their behaviour. Something that I don’t understand at all is the enthusiasm in their plan of religious cleansing, planning to kill the non-believers. . . .

“These were very difficult discussions, especially when they were talking about the number of people who they are willing to kill. They were talking about hundreds of millions. They were enthusiastic about it, and I just cannot understand that.”

There is no negotiating with barbarians like that. And the enemy isn’t just ISIS. It’s Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, Al Qaeda and Shiite mullah’s chanting “Death to America! Death to Israel!” Radical Islam — in all its forms — must be defeated.

    The New Persian Empire

The death of King Abdullah has put Saudi Arabia in the spotlight. For their part, the Saudis feel like they are in a vice: ISIS is on the march to their north, while Iranian-backed Shiite rebels have seized Yemen to their south. (By the way, the Saudis are building a serious border security fence. Why can’t we?)

Charles Krauthammer writes that a new Iranian empire, stretching from Syria to Yemen, is emerging in the Middle East. And pro-American Arab states are looking on in horror as Barack Obama acquiesces not only to Iran’s territorial gains but to its nuclear ambitions as well. You can read more here.

    Defending Life

Hundreds of thousands of Americans came to Washington, D.C., today for the annual March for Life. The march marks a tragic anniversary in America — the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision legalizing most abortions nationally. Since that ruling 42 years ago, more than 57 million innocent lives have been sacrificed in the name choice.

Our nation was founded on the idea that each one of us was created by God with the “unalienable” right to life. Fifty-seven million deaths is a betrayal of our founding principles.

Yet in spite of this reality, the March for Life is always one of the most inspiring events of the year. I was especially honored to address marchers from my home state of Kentucky this morning. It is so encouraging to see so many young men and women marching for this great cause.

A lot of people come to Washington every day, often to lobby for some kind of self-interest. What is striking about the March for Life is that the people coming to Washington today are here to lobby on behalf of others who can’t even thank them. And in return for their selfless efforts, they will be called “fascists” and “extremists” by those on the left. They will be accused of turning the clock back on women’s rights.

But it is the left that wants to turn back the clock. Modern technology allows us to see into the womb, making it virtually impossible to deny the humanity of the unborn child. The science of conception is settled! Those who deny the reality of life are the true deniers of science.

Unfortunately, some weak-kneed politicians in the House, fearing liberal spin, scuttled a vote on legislation banning late-term abortions. Today’s vote was supposed to be a demonstration of the Republican Party’s commitment to the sanctity of life. This bigger, stronger majority is off to a disappointing start.

This is not a tough call. Numerous polls have found overwhelming public support for banning late-term abortions. Representatives Renee Ellmers (202-225-4531) and Jackie Walorski (202-225-3915) have a lot of explaining to do.

Regardless of today’s setback, I am confident that the day is coming when all of our children will be welcomed into society and protected by the law. Some argue that we shouldn’t try to legislate morality. The same was said about slavery. They claim abortion is settled law, and after 42 years it might seem so.

But Roe v. Wade is based on the same misguided philosophy as Dred Scott — that some humans are not “people” with rights we are bound to respect. There is considerable irony that the first president of color, a supposed constitutional scholar no less, refuses to see this.

With your continued support, my friends, I promise to keep fighting for life so long as God gives me breath!

    Will The Left Apologize?

The New York Times reports that the Justice Department is now drafting a legal memo “recommending no civil rights charges” against former Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson. According to the Times, “The investigation by the FBI . . . found no evidence to support civil rights charges against the officer.”

So after months of investigations, with scores of FBI agents conducting hundreds of interviews, Obama’s Justice Department has concluded that the Ferguson grand jury got it right after all.

An entire left-wing movement was birthed by a lie. Ferguson was set ablaze and the nation traumatized over what the Justice Department concedes was a gross distortion. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Eric Holder and others were quick to rush to judgment, blaming America.

Speaking before the United Nations in September, Barack Obama suggested that America had “failed to live up to our ideals.” Conflating the fight against ISIS with Ferguson, Obama said, “In a summer marked by instability in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, I know the world also took notice of the small American city of Ferguson, Missouri.”

Where does Darren Wilson go to get his reputation and his life back? Where do Ferguson store owners go to get their property back, their sense of peace and justice back?

President Obama and Attorney General Holder, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, the left-wing media and every one of the looters and rioters should apologize to the American people. But I won’t hold my breath.

    The Ayatollah’s Appeal

The negotiations between Iran and the United States may not be making much progress on stopping the mullahs from getting nuclear weapons. But they seem to be making progress in other areas. Iran’s Ayatollah Khamenei and President Obama are both promoting Islam.

Like Obama, it seems the ayatollah is worried about “negative stereotypes of Islam” in the aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo attacks. So Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has published an online message to the youth of Europe and North America, appealing to them to ignore the news and study Islam on their own.

Wouldn’t it be great if we had a president who would actually respond to the ayatollah with a strong defense of Judeo-Christian values? It really wouldn’t be that hard to make the case for Western Civilization. Just compare the rights of women in Europe and North America to those under Sharia law or our First Amendment freedoms to fatwas against authors and cartoonists.

Here’s an idea: If the ayatollah is so concerned about terrorism creating negative perceptions of Islam, he could write a letter to the Muslim youth in Gaza and the West Bank. He could tell them that Islam really is a religion of peace and that they should stop trying to murder innocent Israelis. Even better, he could end Iran’s long history of jihad against Western targets.

    Heroic?

Yesterday a 23-year-old Palestinian, another citizen of a future Palestinian state, went on a rampage, slashing and stabbing passengers on a bus in Tel Aviv. Twelve people were wounded, several are in critical condition.

A Hamas leader praised the attack as “a heroic and brave operation.” Why are Obama and Kerry pressuring Israel to negotiate with these butchers?

Israel has made tremendous concessions for peace. It gave up Gaza ten years ago hoping for peace. Instead, Hamas turned Gaza into a launching pad for more rocket attacks. Rather than building schools and hospitals for the Palestinian people, Hamas literally undermined Israel’s security by building dozens of terror tunnels.

Who exactly is Israel’s peace partner? Polls show that if elections were held today for control of a new Palestinian state, Hamas would win. Why would anyone in their right mind support the creation of another terrorist state run by fanatical Islamists in the Middle East? The “two-state solution” is a fantasy.
