A Doctor To Admire

Nurse Kaci Hickox has certainly gotten her 15 minutes of fame for siding with Barack Obama and ignoring Ebola quarantine rules. But have you heard of Dr. Colin Bucks? Of course not.

The Stanford Medical Center doctor also returned to America last week after treating Ebola patients in Liberia. But unlike Hickox, Dr. Bucks is cooperating with state health officials. Unlike Dr. Craig Spencer, who rode the New York subway, went bowling and lied to police about it, Dr. Bucks has stayed in his home.

During an interview with local media, Dr. Bucks said, “For me, this is not a burden. . . . I need my neighborhood to feel utterly secure. For that reason, it’s just easier to work out of home.”

Kudos to Dr. Bucks! I admire his courage and desire to help those in West Africa. I also admire his willingness to respect the health and safety concerns of his fellow countrymen.

If Barack Obama is so upset about anti-science attitudes towards addressing the Ebola crisis, perhaps he should stop lecturing the American people, pick up his phone and talk to Democratic governors.

Quarantines became news last week when the liberal governors of Illinois and New York adopted such policies. This week, Maryland and California followed suit.

Obama may be willing to ignore the 80% of Americans who favor quarantines, but thankfully most politicians aren’t that arrogant.

Political Correctness Run Amok

A Maryland public high school, located a short distance from the Pentagon, where a plane piloted by radical Islamists killed 125 people on 9/11, is requiring children to learn the five pillars of Islam.

According to Fox News, the pro-Islam lesson also included questions like “How did Muslim conquerors treat those they conquered?” The “correct” answer, according to the teaching guide, was, “With tolerance, kindness and respect.” Tell that to Christians and other religious minorities in the Middle East today.

A Marine who served in Iraq not surprisingly objected to his daughter being forced to learn a whitewashed version of Islam’s history. He confronted school officials, used some salty language and was banned from the campus.

The Marine was right to complain. I hope this experience doesn’t end his activism. Perhaps he should run for the school board in order to educate more parents about what is being taught to their kids.

Just imagine if a teacher anywhere in America told her students, “Okay, class, in order to understand Judaism and the roots of Christianity, you need to memorize the Ten Commandments by Monday.” The ACLU and the Freedom From Religion Foundation would be running to the nearest courtroom screaming about the separation of church and state. But apparently the merger of mosque and state is okay.

Desperate Democrats

In the closing days of the 2014 campaign, Democrats are getting desperate and resorting to the race card. Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu, who is white and seeking reelection to a fourth term, is blaming her current struggles in the polls on racism.

Was racism an obstacle to her success the first time she got elected? The second time she got elected? The third time she got elected? Is Louisiana suddenly more racist today? I bet Governor Bobby Jindal and Louisiana state Senator Elbert Guillory would disagree with Landrieu’s charge.

New York Democrat Charlie Rangel told a campaign rally yesterday, “Some [Republicans] believe that slavery isn’t over and they think they won the Civil War!” Really, Charlie? Republicans did win the Civil War and Republicans did put an end to slavery in America.

Things must really be bad in New York or perhaps Democrats are just getting into the Halloween spirit and trying to scare voters to the polls. According to the New York Post, the state Democratic Party sent a mailing to one million voters that effectively threatens them if they fail to vote. Here are some excerpts:

“Who you vote for is your secret. But whether or not you vote is public record. We will be reviewing voting records . . . to determine whether you joined your neighbors who voted in 2014. . . .If you do not vote this year, we will be interested to hear why not.”

Americans Not Embracing Same-Sex Marriage

A new Associated Press poll caught my attention this morning. While the story attempted to throw cold water on the importance of values issues, the poll results confirmed the findings of a previous Pew poll that found support for same-sex marriage falling.

For example, likely voters were split 44% in favor to 45% against same-sex marriage. Moreover, by a 14-point margin (56% to 42%) likely voters felt that it was wrong “for the federal courts to issue rulings that overturn state laws” on marriage.

As state marriage amendments began falling, where was the GOP campaign against judicial activism, once a pillar of the conservative agenda? Once again, Republicans wasted a tremendous opportunity to connect with voters in defense of their values.

Here’s another encouraging finding in the poll: only 23% of voters said abortion should be legal in all cases. That’s the Democrat Party position of abortion on demand and it gets just 23% support. But 76% of voters support some restrictions to the taking of innocent unborn lives.

Again, I have to ask, how many issues in the libertarian and establishment wings of the GOP can claim 76% support? Outsourcing of jobs? Privatizing Social Security? I don’t think so.

It may be enough this November for the Republican Party to succeed by simply being anti-Obama. But at some point it will have to offer the American people a real conservative agenda. If the party wants to succeed, it must speak to their hearts and fight for the values of the American people.

CDC Update

Many of you emailed this morning to say the link to the CDC Ebola flier we provided in yesterday’s report did not work. The CDC removed the flier and posted a message, “Fact sheet is being updated and is currently unavailable.”

Is this one more example of the CDC’s incompetence? We’ll keep you posted.

Gitmo Thugs Back On The Battlefield

High-level defense and intelligence officials have told Fox News that between 20 and 30 former Guantanamo Bay detainees are believed to be fighting with ISIS or Al Qaeda in Iraq and Syria.

This is relevant news because Obama has vowed to shut down the terrorist detention facility at Guantanamo Bay. To do that, he must either bring the terrorists here or release them, as he did with the Taliban Five.

We have known since the Bush years that a significant percentage of these thugs return to the battlefield once they are freed. And Congress has routinely passed legislation preventing the Defense Department from relocating them to the U.S.

Three weeks ago the Wall Street Journal reported that Obama was “unwavering in his commitment” to close Gitmo. So much so that he was even considering “overriding a congressional ban on bringing detainees to the U.S.” But Obama’s priorities do not reflect those of most Americans. A June Gallup poll found that just 29% of Americans supported closing Gitmo.

Quarantine Quarrels

Barack Obama held a press conference at the White House yesterday, flanked by doctors in white lab coats. The last time he did that was to promote Obamacare and he nearly destroyed our healthcare system. But yesterday his targets were critics of his Ebola policies.

“When I hear people talking about American leadership and then are promoting policies that would . . . have us running in the opposite direction and hiding under the covers, it makes me a little frustrated,” Obama said.

He’s frustrated? Where’s the leadership in the fight against ISIS? Obama seems more determined to engage Ebola than he is to win the war against the radical Islamists. We can’t put boots on the ground in Iraq, but we’re sending thousands of troops to West Africa who will face quarantines when they return. As Donald Trump said, ” You’re going to see a whole new kind of ‘hell to pay’ if [our soldiers] catch it.”

Like closing Gitmo, Obama’s priorities and policies are driven by his left-wing ideology without any consideration for what the vast majority of the American people believe. A new CBS News poll finds that 80% of Americans support quarantining healthcare workers returning from West Africa. Only 17% support Obama’s view.

National Public Radio poll found that 77% of Americans support “suspending all travel to and from the affected areas of Africa, in order to prevent the spread of Ebola to the United States.” It makes sense, which is why Australia is banning travel to and from Ebola ravaged nations.

According to USA Today, Nigeria succeeded in stopping Ebola from spreading because, “The government immediately imposed strict measures to quarantine those who were ill and to screen thousands of their contacts. . .” Nigeria also imposed flight restrictions on “Ebola-infected countries.”

But Obama refuses to “hide under the covers.”

This ideological intransigence could cost us dearly. We now have the State Department memo proving that the Obama Administration was at least considering plans to allow foreign Ebola victims to come to the United States for treatment. According to the memo, the expected cost to treat each case is between $200,000 and $300,000.

But an extensive survey of hospitals and healthcare experts by the Associated Press determined that “The U.S. health care apparatus is so unprepared and short on resources to deal with the deadly Ebola virus that even small clusters of cases could overwhelm parts of the system.”

Did The CDC Lie?

The Centers for Disease Control has spent weeks trying to convince us that Ebola is very hard to get. We’ve been told over and over again, “You can’t get Ebola on a bus.” You can only get Ebola, we were told, from contact with bodily fluids, which to most people meant blood, vomit, etc. But it may spread more easily than that.

The New York Post reports that a CDC flyer warns that Ebola can be spread through coughs and sneezes. Here are some excerpts from the poster:

“Droplet spread happens when germs traveling inside droplets that are coughed or sneezed from a sick person enter the eyes, nose, or mouth of another person. Droplets travel short distances, less than 3 feet (1 meter) from one person to another. A person might also get infected by touching a surface or object that has germs on it and then touching their mouth or nose. Droplet spread diseases include: plague, Ebola.”

See the flyer here.

It’s one thing for passengers on a plane or a bus to avoid blood and vomit. It’s something altogether different to avoid people who are coughing and sneezing in confined spaces.

Fight Voter Fraud — VOTE

Liberals like to claim that voter ID laws are a solution in search of a problem. Of course, liberals don’t object to voter fraud because they benefit from it! For example, the pro-amnesty group La Raza is promoting a graphic from the Washington Post listing the states that do not require any identification to vote. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why La Raza would want to do that.

As we have reported, there have been numerous cases of “calibration errors” involving touch screen voting machines registering Republican votes for the Democrat candidates. It’s odd that these “errors” always seem to favor the Democrats.

Last week one voter integrity group sued the state of Maryland claiming that thousands of people in one Maryland county were exempted from jury duty because they were not U.S. citizens. Yet somehow these same people managed to cast ballots in recent elections.

It is illegal to lie on jury duty forms and it is illegal for non-citizens to vote. If this is happening in one county, it is probably happening all over the state. It is probably happening in other states too.

Again, my friends, the solution is not to give up in despair. Your vote does matter. Cheating only works if the results are close.

So fight back by voting. Take a friend to the polls with you. Vote for candidates who support voter ID laws. And double check your ballot. Make sure your vote is counted correctly.

Obama’s “Long Knives” Out For Bibi

Add Israel’s security to the list of things to worry about after the election. Signs are increasing that the Obama Administration will use its last two years to do everything it can to hurt Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu and to force Israel into making more ill-conceived concessions to those who would implement another Holocaust.

A disgusting sucker punch was just thrown by the administration in an article by The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg. The article cites a “senior Obama Administration official” as saying, “The thing about Bibi is, he’s a chickensh-t.” Not surprisingly, this “brave” official insisted on anonymity.

This was no renegade attack by a rogue appointee. Obama and Kerry are described as furious that Netanyahu insists on building homes for Israelis in Jerusalem. Think about that. The official view of our “progressive,” “liberal” leaders is that some Jerusalem neighborhoods should be “Jew free.” By the way, the leftists at J Street, a progressive group that claims to be pro-Israel, agree.

The neighborhoods in question are part of the land that Obama/Kerry/J Street want to force Israel to give to Palestinian extremists for their new, “peaceful” state. It isn’t clear whether the entire new state will be “Jew free,” but it is clear no Jew will be safe living in it. Nor will Israel be safer if the new state is created by giving up half of Jerusalem, putting Hamas missiles at Israel’s heart.

It is disgusting that a war hero like Bibi is being called a coward by a high-level appointee of our metrosexual president. Check out this photo as a reminder of how each man spent his youthful years. (Obama is the one on the left.) I know who I would want to have my back, and it isn’t the golfer.

Feds On Alert

Administration officials announced yesterday that security was being increased at federal buildings nationwide. Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson said that the additional measures were taken in reaction to “acts of violence targeted at government personnel and installations in Canada and elsewhere recently.”

This seems to be another example of the Obama Administration being slow to act. We have known about the jihadi threats to soldiers and law enforcement personnel for some time. That’s what happened in Canada and New York City last week.

Days later, DHS decides to step it up a bit. Better late than never, I suppose.

Quarantine Quarrels

Barack Obama ran to the microphone yesterday to attack state efforts to protect people from Ebola, offering up his usual straw man argument. Obama said we should honor healthcare workers returning from West Africa, not quarantine them.

This is not an either/or issue. We should honor them and we should quarantine them out of an abundance of caution in order to protect our citizens.

The New York Post reports that Dr. Craig Spencer “initially lied to authorities about his travels around the city.” It was only after police checked his credit card and MetroCard records that he confessed to riding the subway and bowling.

And then there is the ongoing saga of Nurse Kaci Hickox, who returned from Sierra Leone last week. Under orders from Governor Chris Christie, Hickox was quarantined after authorities at Newark Airport determined she had a fever.

She’s now in Maine, where Governor Paul LePage ordered her to complete the 21-day quarantine in the comfort of her home. Once again, she’s threatening to sue. “I don’t plan on sticking to the guidelines,” Hickox said this morning. “If the restrictions . . . are not lifted by Thursday morning, I will go to court.”

Obama and the CDC’s Dr. Frieden contend that being pro-quarantine is anti-science. The truth is the exact opposite. Quarantine is the default position when dealing with deadly diseases, particularly when we don’t fully understand the level of the threat.

That’s why the Apollo 11 astronauts were quarantined after they returned from the moon. Even after Obama’s statement yesterday, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel this morning signed an order subjecting our soldiers deployed to West Africa to a 21-day quarantine.

By the way, a new CBS News poll finds that 80% of Americans support quarantining healthcare workers returning from West Africa. Only 17% support Obama’s view.

Don’t Celebrate Yet

The 2014 elections are less than a week away. Most media reports suggest the GOP will have a good night on November 4th. I hope so. But I’ve been analyzing the key Senate races with our staff, and I’m not sure we should be celebrating just yet.

Republicans need to capture six seats to take control of the Senate. Three seats — Montana, South Dakota and West Virginia — were considered safe for the GOP. But the Obama FBI is now meddling in the South Dakota race, already complicated by the third-party candidacy of a former GOP senator. We can only assume that the GOP carries two of these three races.

Alaska appeared to be a likely pickup opportunity for Republicans. But two new polls find the Democrat incumbent leading. Moreover, Democrats have invested heavily in boosting turnout among Native Alaskans. Evidence suggests it may be paying off. Begich won the 2008 race only after these rural votes were tallied. Let’s assume Begich prevails again.

Now let’s look at the races in Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa and North Carolina. In Iowa and Arkansas, the polling trends have been in our direction. Let’s assume we win those two states.

In Colorado, under a recent law passed by the Democrat legislature, every voter is automatically mailed a ballot. The risk of fraud is high, and polls indicate that low-propensity voters heavily favor the Democrat incumbent. In North Carolina, the race is neck-and-neck, but the GOP candidate has really struggled to gain traction.

If we win three of these four races, certainly not a sure thing, the GOP would then have five of the six seats we need.

What about the “Ks” — Kansas and Kentucky — two states with at-risk GOP incumbents? In Kentucky, Senator Mitch McConnell appears safe. But polling shows he has a negative favorability rating and incumbents with such ratings often get surprised on Election Day. Kansas could go either way.

Given the situation in these two states, it wouldn’t be a total surprise to lose one, so then we’re down to a net gain of four seats.

New Hampshire has swung wildly in recent elections, and some polls show the race there is tied. If we won, we would be back up to five seats, giving the GOP 50 Senate seats. That’s not enough — Vice President Joe Biden would cast tie-breaking votes.

What about Georgia and Louisiana? Current polling in Louisiana’s three-way race finds no candidate is breaking 40%, so a December runoff appears certain. In Georgia, the Republican candidate is struggling to defend his record of outsourcing jobs. A Libertarian candidate is also running and could send this contest to a January runoff.

My friends, we can’t afford to take anything for granted. As one analysis noted today, the 10 most critical contests “are all separated by 5 points or less.”

On Election Night, we might be up four or five seats, with Georgia and Louisiana going into runoffs. Control of the Senate might not be decided until January 2015!

There are two wild cards at play in this election. Does the Democrat ground game (coupled with cheating), which failed in 2010, succeed this time?

Does a GOP wave like 2010 or 1994 emerge? In 1994 millions of white, working-class voters showed up on Election Day, but they disappeared in later years. Are Ebola and ISIS enough to cause that kind of unpredictable result on November 4th?

We will find out in six days.

The Coming Confrontation

Immigration is one of the most contentious issues in America. President George W. Bush twice tried to push a “comprehensive” immigration reform bill through Congress and failed because it was seen as being too close to amnesty.

Barack Obama promised it would be a major issue during his first year in office. Despite controlling large majorities in the House and Senate, he focused on ruining health care instead. To pacify pro-amnesty activists on the left, in 2012 the president ordered his “deferred action program” for children of illegal immigrants and instructed immigration officials to exercise “prosecutorial discretion” in deportation cases.

Democrats tried to revive the debate last year, but conservatives in Congress stopped it. Obama threatened to issue another executive amnesty this summer. Then tens of thousands of children began streaming across our southern border, reminding everyone just how insecure it really was.

The politics of immigration changed dramatically. Illegal immigration suddenly became the most important issue in the minds of voters, exceeding even the economy. Sensing the political danger, Obama publicly abandoned his amnesty plans, but privately continued to plot his course.

Earlier this month Obama told the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, “I’ve said before that . . . I would act to fix as much of our immigration system as I can on my own, and I meant what I said. So this is not a question of if, but when.”

By all accounts “when” is sometime shortly after the November elections. And numerous reports indicate that Obama’s amnesty will be huge, involving millions of illegal immigrants.

Obama is on shaky ground politically. A September Rasmussen poll found that 62% of likely voters oppose such action. Just 26% support it. Moreover, only 24% believe Obama has the legal authority to grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants.

The GOP Finds Its Voice

Last night, Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee, took a very strong stand against President Obama’s expected amnesty of millions of illegal immigrants. Here’s what he said:

“It is un-American for a president to try and do such a thing. . . . We will do everything we can to make sure it doesn’t happen: Defunding, going to court, injunction. You name it. It’s wrong. It’s illegal. And for so many reasons, and just the basic fabric of this country, we can’t allow it to happen and we won’t let it happen. . . . I’m telling you, everything we can do to stop it we will.”

Priebus’ remarks are the closest thing to a campaign promise that the GOP is making this year: “Give us the Senate and we will stop Obama’s amnesty.” That unequivocal statement must be frustrating for some at the Chamber of Commerce and other Beltway types. But the issue resonates in middle America and has made some elections surprisingly competitive.

In New Hampshire, for example, the GOP candidate has taken a strong stand on border security and against Obama’s threatened massive amnesty. In Louisiana, the Democrat candidate is claiming to be tougher than her GOP opponents. She is not.

The media keep saying that there is no overriding issue in this campaign, like Obamacare was in 2010. But if there is anything close to one, it is the cadre of issues related to security — securing the border and what porous borders mean in an age of ISIS and Ebola.

Union Leader Makes Urgent Plea

This morning Kenneth Palinkas, president of a union representing 12,000 immigration officers, issued an “urgent plea to the nation regarding executive amnesty.” Here are some excerpts of his statement:

“As the individuals who screen the millions of applications for entry into the U.S., it is our job to ensure that terrorists, diseases, criminals, public charges, and other undesirable groups are kept out of the United States. Unfortunately, we have been blocked in our efforts to accomplish this mission . . . by the very same government that employs our skill sets. . . .

“Whether it’s the failure to uphold the public charge laws, the abuse of our asylum procedures, the admission of Islamist radicals, or visas for health risks, the taxpayers are being fleeced and public safety is being endangered on a daily basis.

“I write today to warn the general public that this situation is about to get exponentially worse — and more dangerous. . . . If you care about your immigration security and your neighborhood security, you must act now to ensure that Congress stops this unilateral amnesty. . . . We who serve in our nation’s immigration agencies are pleading for your help — don’t let this happen. Express your concern to your Senators and Congressmen before it is too late.”

As recent headlines attest, Palinkas is right. Whether it’s illegal immigrants voting in close elections or gunning down police officers, taxpayers are being fleeced and public safety is being endangered.

Adding to these concerns are comments from Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. During an interview on Fox News last night, Goodlatte said that a government whistleblower contacted his office warning that the Obama Administration was preparing to relax immigration rules in order to permit Ebola victims from foreign countries to be treated in the United States.

Goodlatte fired off letters to Secretary of State John Kerry and Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson last week, but has yet to hear from them.

A new CNN poll finds that nearly 70% of Americans think the country is heading in the wrong direction and they are angry about it too. Who could blame them? Whether it’s redefining marriage or rewriting immigration laws, somewhere along the line basic American concepts of the rule of law and the consent of the governed have been forgotten and ignored.

From Bias To Bigotry

The media’s left-wing bias is a well-established fact. But in recent years journalistic standards have fallen so dramatically that bias is being replaced with outright bigotry against men and women of faith. Nowhere is this disturbing trend more evident than at the left’s flagship news outlet, the New York Times. You can read more in my latest op-ed at Townhall.com

A Nagging Worry

We’re 11 days away from the 2014 elections, and I am increasingly worried that too many conservatives have grown complacent. I know that many polls look good right now. I know that many pundits predict big gains for the GOP on November 4th. But I also fear it is possible that the left may surprise us.

The political left has invested vast amounts of money in perfecting their voter turnout operations. Obama’s election in 2008 brought out millions of new liberal voters for the first time, but Democrats got “shellacked” in 2010 when they failed to repeat that feat. So they went back to the drawing board in 2012 and figured out how to get many of them back.

Remember how so many pollsters got it wrong that year?

What if the polls are wrong this year too? What if we are underestimating liberal turnout again? We may well be.

Consider Colorado. The left-wing legislature there rammed through a vote-by-mail initiative so that every registered voter is mailed a ballot — even so-called “drop-off voters” or “presidential surge voters” who show up in presidential years but skip mid-term elections like 2014.

Virtually every poll finds that Republican Cory Gardner is leading among interested, likely voters — folks who never skip an election. The problem is that polls of likely voters tend to screen out “drop-off” voters.

This morning I read a poll conducted among 400 “drop-off” Colorado voters — folks who cast ballots in 2012, but not in 2010. Twenty-two percent of them voted already this year with their mail-in ballots and among these “drop-off voters” Democrat Mark Udall led by 14 points.

If turnout in Colorado and other key states is closer to 2012 than 2010, the polls could be wrong again. That is why we cannot afford to take anything for granted.

That is why I need you to make a generous donation to CWF right now so we can fully fund our GOTV efforts.

And that is why YOU MUST VOTE and why you must find one more like-minded conservative and drag that person to the polls with you on November 4th!

Chill Out!

Our government handlers are earning their paychecks today, particularly in the Big Apple. You think you have a tough job? Just imagine if you had the assignment today of telling agitated citizens that it was perfectly logical and prudent to not quarantine a doctor who had just returned from Africa. . . where he had been treating Ebola patients.

Instead he self-monitored and voluntarily stayed out of crowds. . . except when he rode the subway. . .and when he ate at a restaurant. . . and when he went bowling . . . and had his fiancee over to his apartment (who is also now quarantined, giving her lots of time to think about whether she wants to marry a guy who was this cavalier about putting her at risk).

New York sent out a bevy of health care officials whose main job seemed to be not fighting Ebola but to console, patronize and calm the plebeians known as the American people. “Ebola is not the danger,” they said. “Fear is!”

I am surprised they don’t all wear hazmat suits to prevent undue contact with us — the Neanderthals who believe that, when dealing with a deadly disease about which we still don’t know all the facts, compulsory quarantine is the time-tested prudent thing to do. It is even more important than bowling.

Those New York officials who were not busy sedating the public over Ebola devoted their energies to assuring us that the poor misunderstood fellow who decided yesterday to bury a hatchet in the skull of a rookie New York cop had absolutely nothing to do with radical Islam or ISIS or the headless grandmother in Oklahoma or the dead baby in Jerusalem killed by a Palestinian jihadist.

Sure, his website attacked Zionists and Christians and defended jihad, his YouTube playlist was loaded with Malcolm X videos, his Facebook page has an image of a Muslim warrior and he said it was better to fight in the name of Allah than to sit around, but that is all circumstantial. Sure, it is true that ISIS has specifically called for attacks on soldiers (see Canada) and on law enforcement. That may seem significant to your poor know-nothing, closet racist, fear-mongering, average U.S. citizen, but trust us, there is nothing to see here.

Move on people! Relax! Chill out! Have a little newly legalized pot and check out the latest Hollywood escapades of your favorite starlet. Everything is under control in Obamaland. Trust me.

The Weak Horse

The headlines around the world are chilling. The front page of today’s Washington Post warns us that ISIS has likely used chemical weapons against Iraqi security forces. If confirmed, chemical weapons falling into the hands of terrorists would be a nightmare scenario. In a separate report, David Ignatius informs us that “Iraq and the U.S. are losing ground to the Islamic State.”

Even liberal columnist Eugene Robinson piles on, writing that the fight against ISIS is becoming a “dumb war.” Robinson adds that it is “necessary” to question “whether Obama’s strategy” can achieve his stated objective of “degrading and ultimately destroying” ISIS. As you may recall, I reported two weeks ago that top Pentagon officials had “profound misgivings” about Obama’s “pinprick operations.”

All of this is not being lost on our enemies. Just consider these remarks by Ali Younesi, a top advisor to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani:

“Obama is the weakest of U.S. presidents. He had humiliating defeats in the region. Under him the Islamic awakening happened. Americans witnessed their greatest defeats in Obama’s era: Terrorism expanded, [the] U.S. had huge defeats under Obama [and] that is why they want to compromise with Iran.”

The Obama Administration is intentionally keeping its rhetoric muted regarding Iran because it is so desperate to get a deal — any deal, even a bad one — on the mullahs’ nuclear weapons program. That’s why he plans to “do everything in his power” to circumvent Congress and the Constitution. But obviously the Iranians feel no such constraints to be diplomatic lest they upset the delicate negotiations.

Think about how this is perceived throughout the Middle East. Osama bin Laden once said that by nature people want to follow the strong horse. Our enemies have looked at Obama and concluded that he is the weak horse.

What’s Wrong With The “War On Women”

In the world of Democratic political messaging, the dominant narrative is that women support abortion rights while men — specifically Republican men — seek to deny them. But that narrative is not only simplistic, it is also largely false. Read more in my latest opinion piece at The Daily Caller.

Canadian Terrorist Islamic Convert

We know more today about the man who shot and killed a soldier standing guard at Canada’s National War Memorial. Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, 32, had a long criminal history. He had spent time in prison for drugs and robbery and had recently converted to Islam.

Like Martin Couture-Rouleau, who used his car as a weapon to rundown two Canadian soldiers Monday, Zehaf-Bibeau had planned to travel to Syria to fight with ISIS, but his passport had been revoked. Ironically, his mother is a top Canadian immigration official.

During yesterday’s chaos in Ottawa, there was one man who understood the situation, stayed calm and did what had to be done. That man was Kevin Vickers, the 58 year-old Sergeant-At-Arms of the Canadian Parliament, a ceremonial position that doesn’t involve arms at all. But it was Vickers, a 30-year veteran of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, who brought down Zehaf-Bibeau before he was able to kill again.

When the Canadian Parliament convened this morning, the hallways were lined with grateful Canadians cheering Vickers as he marched ahead. When he entered the House of Commons, the members of Parliament greeted him with thunderous applause and a standing ovation that lasted for several minutes. You can watch it here.

That is what manhood has meant for centuries. When fate puts you in such a position, you must stand and fight back. As has been the case throughout history, it took a good guy with a gun to stop the bad guy with a gun. And so it will be with radical Islam. Thank God we still have men like Kevin Vickers.

Jihad In Jerusalem

As we mentioned yesterday, the assault at the Canadian Parliament was the second jihadist attack in Canada in 48 hours. While the media were justifiably focused on that event, there was a terrorist attack in Jerusalem similar to Monday’s attack in Canada.

Abed a-Rahman a-Shaludi, a radical Palestinian Muslim, plowed his car into a crowd of pedestrians injuring nine and killing one. The victim, Chaya Zissel Braun, a 3-month-old baby girl, was an American citizen.

Abed a-Shaludi was shot and killed by Israeli police when he tried to flee the scene of the attack. His family claims this was just a simple car accident. But a-Shaludi had a history of criminal offensives, including attacks against Jews. He is also the nephew of a top Hamas terrorist, who was killed in 1998, and a-Shaludi had posted online messages praising Hamas and homicide bombers.

There has been increasing violence in Jerusalem in recent months. It erupted again in the aftermath of yesterday’s attack. Palestinians threw rocks at cars, police and even at a Jewish kindergarten. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to restore order in Jerusalem, saying:

“United Jerusalem was and will always remain the capital of Jerusalem. Every attempt to harm its people will be met with a stronger response. We will return peace and security to Jerusalem. . . . We support the Israeli police, and will give it all the reinforcements necessary. But the attack in Jerusalem is supported by Abu Mazen (Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas) who glorifies the murderers and embraces the organization to which the terrorists belong – Hamas.”

Please join me in praying for the peace of Jerusalem.

More Bad Obamacare News

The Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare, is Barack Obama’s signature achievement and the crown jewel of the left. But with early voting underway and Election Day just a little more than a week away, it’s hard to find any good news about Obamacare.

Consider these results from a Politico poll released this week:

  • Only 17% of likely voters wants to keep Obamacare “as it is.”
  • Just 18% said Obamacare had improved the quality of their healthcare, while 41% said it had made their healthcare worse.
  • 57% said Obamacare was increasing the amount of money they were paying for healthcare. Only 7% said it had decreased their costs.

And people are paying more. Residents of Iowa and Louisiana (two states with critical Senate races) are facing double-digit premium increases. Moreover, recent reports suggest that many people with Obamacare policies can’t afford to use them because of the high costs.

So, we’re paying more for less of something we don’t like. Heck of a job there, Barack! Voters will have a chance on November 4th to tell Obama what they think of his “reform.”

Don’t give up yet, friends. Obamacare still faces major legal hurdles, including lawsuits that could undo its taxpayer-funded subsidy scheme. Liberal apologists claim these lawsuits are “wild speculation.” But the Obama White House is taking them seriously.

Obama’s Health and Human Service Department recently contracted with the Rand Corporation to study the potential impact of the lawsuits. The study concluded that if the subsidies were eliminated, enrollment in Obamacare would collapse by 68%, sending Obamacare into a “near death spiral.”

It turns out that HHS isn’t alone in worrying about these lawsuits. The insurance companies are terrified. So much so that they have included new clauses in their contracts specifying that they can cancel the plans if the subsidies are declared unconstitutional.

    Media Bias

Need more proof of the media’s left-wing bias? Consider this: According to the Media Research Center, the big three networks aired 159 campaign-related stories in the weeks leading up to the 2006 elections. The theme of most of those reports was what a big Democrat year it would be.

How many campaign-related stories have run on ABC, CBS, and NBC in the run-up to this year’s election? 25. That’s a 6:1 ratio. If Big Media can’t cheer on the Democrats, well they’d rather talk about something else.

And if you were getting your news from only ABC, you could be forgiven for not even realizing there is an election this year. That network ran zero election-related stories from September 1st through October 20th.

While we’re on the subject of election news, be on the lookout for “calibration errors” when you vote.

Jim Moynihan of Schaumburg, Illinois, went to vote early at his local public library. But he noticed that the touch screen voting machine was registering all his votes for Democrats. This was particularly disconcerting for Mr. Moynihan because he couldn’t even vote for himself — he is the Republican Party nominee for state representative!

Local election officials blamed the trouble on a “calibration error.”

Folks, I almost hesitated to write this item out of fear that it might unduly alarm some people. Heaven knows the last thing I want to do is discourage anyone from voting.

    By all means, VOTE.

But, please, when you do vote, take a few seconds to double check your ballot and make sure you don’t experience any user or calibration errors.

    Jihad In Canada

There is breaking news today of multiple shootings in Ottawa, Canada. A Canadian soldier standing guard at the National War Memorial was shot and reportedly killed. Canada’s National War Memorial is a significant site. A shooting there would be comparable to one here at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.

Gunfire erupted inside the Canadian Parliament building and there are unconfirmed reports of shots fired at other nearby locations. One gunman is dead and police are searching the area for additional suspects.

On Monday, Martin Couture-Rouleau used his car as a weapon to rundown two Canadian soldiers who left a veterans support center in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. One soldier was killed. Couture-Rouleau was killed by police after he flipped his car, got out and charged them with a knife.

In two days, three Canadian soldiers have been attacked at places where the attackers knew soldiers would be. As you know ISIS has called on Western jihadists to attack soldiers wherever they can find them — even to “show up [at their homes] and slaughter them.”

We know beyond any doubt that Couture-Rouleau was a radical Islamist. He was one of 90 people on the Canadian government’s watch list and had tried to travel to Syria to fight for ISIS. But the Canadian government suspended his passport. So he answered the call to wage jihad in Canada.

Based on what we know so far about today’s shootings in Ottawa, it seems likely that the attack on the soldier at the National War Memorial was also an act of jihad.

By the way, Nobel Peace Prize co-winner Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teenager who survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban, was to be honored in Toronto today by Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

    U.S. Congresswoman Targeted

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), a great pro-family, pro-Israel leader in Congress, has done her best to expose radical Islam. So much so, in fact, that ISIS has posted a video threatening her and featuring some of her remarks at this year’s Values Voter Summit. As a result, she has been assigned extra security from the Capitol Hill police. Please join me in praying for her safety.

But Rep. Bachmann has done more than just expose radical Islam. She has also exposed the vitriol of the radical left. There are more than 200 comments on the Huffington Post’sreport about the ISIS threat against Bachmann. Do you think any of the liberals there expressed much concern about the “war on women” being waged by radical Islam? No. In fact, most were cheering the Islamists. Here’s a sample:

“Maybe this will shut her up!!!”

“Please don’t make me root for ISIL.”

“I say we give her to them!”

“Could we possibly [be] that lucky?”

    “Ummm …. go Isis?”

“Maybe we could pay ISIS to behead her.”

    Where Are The Passengers?

Yesterday several foreign travelers from West Africa at Newark International Airport and Chicago’s O’Hare International airport were detained after enhanced screenings raised alarms. They were then transported to area hospitals.

The Department of Homeland Security reported yesterday that four travelers were recently subjected to additional Ebola screenings at Dulles International Airport and taken to a hospital for further testing. But, according to the Washington Post, the Centers for Disease Control won’t comment on the DHS report and the two hospitals closest to Dulles deny they received anyone.

Where did these people go? Why won’t the CDC comment? Are we going to be treated to yet another round of stonewalling like we got on Benghazi, the IRS scandal and Fast and Furious?

That’s not going to assuage fears or spur trust in the bureaucracy. It is in that kind of atmosphere that distrust festers and rumors spread.

Of course, stonewalling comes easy for this administration. Obama and his left-wing allies have a vested interest in not reminding everyone that every day people are arriving in this country who could well be infected, just like Thomas Duncan was.

Yesterday, 16 members of Congress, all of whom are doctors and nurses, wrote to President Obama urging him to impose travel restrictions. Here’s an excerpt of their letter:

“Containment is the key to stopping the spread of this highly contagious and deadly disease, and we strongly urge your administration to consider implementing a temporary travel ban for individuals who are citizens of, or traveled to, affected countries in West Africa.”

    The Pro-Abortion Left

If you thought the fight over Obamacare and abortion ended after the Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby decision, think again. Left-wing bureaucrats in California are so pro-abortion that even after the high court’s decision this summer they are still trying to force churches to pay for abortions. That’s right — churches!

letter from Kaiser Permanente to one California church states that California’s Department of Managed Health Care has declared abortion to be “a medically necessary basic health care service for which all health care services plans must provide coverage. . . . The DMHC . . . now is requiring health care service plans to provide coverage of all terminations of pregnancies, effective immediately.”

The left is committed to compelling the Little Sisters of the Poor and churches to pay for abortions, forcing Christian business owners to participate in same-sex weddings and even forcing Christian ministers to perform same-sex marriages. Religious liberty in America is clearly under attack.

There is something you can do about it. VOTE!
