Briefings? What Briefings?

In yesterday’s report, we commented on President Obama’s passing the buck by appearing to blame the intelligence community for missing the threat posed by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. As we noted, there really was no excuse for the president being so uninformed. Last year, Iraq’s prime minister came to Washington pleading for help in fighting ISIS.

Even the liberal media are refusing to drink the Kool-Aid on this one. ABC’s Jonathan Karl noted that top administration officials warned about ISIS on at least three occasions between November 2013 and February 2014.

NBC’s chief foreign affairs correspondent Richard Engel said, “It’s surprising that the president said that U.S. intelligence missed this one… Everyone knew that Islamic extremists were on the rise in Syria and in Iraq; it was well documented. The extremists were publicizing their activities online — they were bragging about it. Journalists, including us, were interviewing foreign fighters. This was no state secret.”

A new report may shed some light on one possible reason for the president’s ignorance. According to the Government Accountability Institute, Obama has skipped roughly 60% of his daily intelligence briefings.

During his first term, Obama attended 42% of his daily intelligence briefings. And halfway through his second term, he’s made just 41% of his briefings.

Liberal apologists will no doubt argue that the president is so smart he doesn’t need in-person briefings. He can just read the intelligence memos on his iPad over breakfast. Perhaps.

But what that means is that he is not asking questions. He is not engaging his top officials and experts. He’s winging it, and the results speak for themselves.

The Leader Of The Free World Speaks

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the United Nations yesterday and delivered a speech rallying the free world against the forces of radical Islam. Netanyahu connected the dots so that free people could clearly comprehend the threat we are facing.

Meanwhile, our politically correct leaders are doing their best to blur the lines between acts of terrorism and terrorism’s root cause.

They don’t want you to connect the jihadist who cut off a woman’s head at a food processing plant to the jihadist who walked onto Fort Hood and mowed down 14 people to the jihadists from Minnesota who went to fight for ISIS in Syria to the jihadists in Gaza digging tunnels into Israel. Obama and his allies do not want you to see the obvious connection to all these incidents: Radical Islamism.

Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech was incredibly powerful. I encourage you to watch the whole thing. Here are some excerpts of his remarks yesterday:

“Ladies and Gentlemen, the people of Israel pray for peace. But our hopes and the world’s hope for peace are in danger. Because everywhere we look, militant Islam is on the march. . . .their ultimate goal is to dominate the world. . . .
“Some are radical Sunnis, some are radical Shi’ites. . . .But they all share a fanatic ideology. They all seek to create ever expanding enclaves of militant Islam where there is no freedom and no tolerance. Where women are treated as chattel, Christians are decimated, and minorities are subjugated, sometimes given the stark choice: convert or die. . . .

“Ladies and Gentlemen, militant Islam’s ambition to dominate the world seems mad. But so too did the global ambitions of another fanatic ideology that swept to power eight decades ago. The Nazis believed in a master race. The militant Islamists believe in a master faith.”

Referring to Iran’s nuclear ambitions, Prime Minister Netanyahu said:

“Imagine how much more dangerous the Islamic State, ISIS, would be if it possessed chemical weapons. Now imagine how much more dangerous the Islamic state of Iran would be if it possessed nuclear weapons. Would you let ISIS enrich uranium? Would you let ISIS build a heavy water reactor? Would you let ISIS develop intercontinental ballistic missiles? Of course you wouldn’t. Then you mustn’t let the Islamic State of Iran do those things either.”

Referring to Israel’s fight against Hamas, Netanyahu said this:

“ISIS and Hamas are branches of the same poisonous tree. ISIS and Hamas share a fanatical creed, which they both seek to impose well beyond the territory under their control. . . .As Hamas’s charter makes clear, Hamas’s immediate goal is to destroy Israel. But . . .Hamas shares the global ambitions of its fellow militant Islamists. That’s why its supporters wildly cheered in the streets of Gaza as thousands of Americans were murdered on 9/11. And that’s why its leaders condemned the United States for killing Osama Bin Laden, whom they praised as a holy warrior. . . .
“Ladies and Gentlemen, the fight against militant Islam is indivisible. When militant Islam succeeds anywhere, it’s emboldened everywhere. When it suffers a blow in one place, it’s set back in every place. That’s why Israel’s fight against Hamas is not just our fight. It’s your fight. Israel is fighting a fanaticism today that your countries may be forced to fight tomorrow.”

Who could disagree with that? Unbelievably, Obama’s State Department — YOUR State Department — did disagree.

At a State Department briefing yesterday, Spokeswoman Jen Psaki was asked about Netanyahu’s connection of ISIS and Hamas as “branches of the same poisonous tree.” Psaki replied that while both were terrorist organizations, ISIS “poses a different threat to Western interests and to the United States. And that’s just a fact.”

Really? Perhaps one might argue that ISIS poses a more immediate threat. But Hamas has killed Americans and has also threatened to attack the United States.

Psaki also rejected Netanyahu’s statement that radical Shiite and Sunni groups were “are all part of the same kind of militant Islamic attempt to rule the world.” Psaki said, “We would not agree with that characterization, no.”

How is it possible that the United States and Israel could be so far apart when it comes to defining a common enemy that has killed Americans and Israelis and is threatening Judeo-Christian civilization? It is clear to me that Netanyahu takes his intelligence briefings seriously. It is also clear me to that the leader of the free world resides in Jerusalem, not Washington, D.C.

Obama Passes The Buck

Harry Truman popularized the phrase “The Buck Stops Here” with a plaque that sat on his desk in the Oval Office for much of his presidency. It’s a concept that seems lost on the current occupant of the Oval Office.

President Obama went on “60 Minutes” and did what he does best. Asked whether the rise of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria came as a total surprise to him, Obama blamed someone else. Obama said, “Our head of the intelligence community, Jim Clapper, has acknowledged that, I think, they underestimated what had been taking place in Syria.”

Some intelligence officials are seething over this remark. One former senior Pentagon official said, “Either the president doesn’t read the intelligence he’s getting or he’s bullshi**ing.”

The Daily Beast reports that top Pentagon officials testified before Congress in January and February about the growing threat from ISIS.

Moreover, Iraqi leaders were begging for U.S. drone strikes as one city after another fell. In fact, former Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki came to Washington last October and personally pled with Vice President Joe Biden for help.

But Obama shrugged off all the warnings and dismissed ISIS as a “JV team” (junior varsity team). Now he has the audacity to go on “60 Minutes” and suggest that it was our intelligence community that got it wrong.

No, Mr. President, the intelligence was right. It was your naive foreign policy that was wrong.

Speaking Of Naive. . .

While the world was fixated on beheadings and the riots in Ferguson, Missouri, China cracked down on free speech in Hong Kong. Massive protests have ensued. In a scene reminiscent of Tiananmen Square, the communists in Beijing ordered riot police to move in with batons, tear gas and pepper spray.

If the people of Hong Kong were hoping for any encouragement from Barack Obama, they were surely disappointed with today’s statement from White House Press Secretary Josh Ernest. “The United States urges the Hong Kong authorities to exercise restraint,” Ernest said, “and for protesters to express their views peacefully.”

Here we go again. This is the same kind of weak-kneed moral equivalency we have seen from Obama time and again. Whether it is Israel and Hamas or the pro-democracy “green revolution” and the Iranian regime, Obama hesitates to boldly stand for freedom.

Beheading Update

Over the weekend, more information about Alton Nolen, who beheaded a woman at his former place of employment, became public. A local newspaper reports that Nolen was arrested 10 times during a five year period. Friends say he converted to Islam while in prison sometime in 2011, eventually adopting the name Jah’Keem Yisrael.

Worshippers at the mosque Nolen attended described him as “a little odd” and “weird.” Breitbart.com reports that Nolen posted a picture of Islamic State fighters on his Facebook page “on the very same day” ISIS released the photograph, “implying he closely followed ISIS online.” There is another picture of Nolen at a mosque in Oklahoma City offering what appears to be the ISIS salute — the right index finger pointing upwards.

On Fox News this morning, Texas Governor Rick Perry said, “At some point in time the administration does have to address this as what is appears to many people that it is — and that is an act of violence that is associated with terrorism.” I think Perry is right, but I won’t hold my breath waiting for the Obama Administration to level with the American people.

When a police officer and a young man have a confrontation in Ferguson, Missouri, something that unfortunately happens all too often all over the country, the president and his left-wing allies immediately seize upon the incident and exploit it to fit a narrative of “racist America.”

When a Muslim beheads a woman in Oklahoma, thankfully a very rare event, the president and his allies do whatever they can to make sure that it is not recognized for what it is. Rather than calling it an act of terror, it is labeled “workplace violence.”

Some are attempting to downplay Nolen’s interest in ISIS and they are insisting that there is no link to terrorism. But whether he was a “dues paying” member of a terrorist group is irrelevant. If Nolan did have contact with a terrorist group, to some degree that would be less disconcerting because we would know that he was acting as their agent.

But if he in fact acted as a “lone wolf,” that is precisely what intelligence agents fear most. Nolen could have been responding to calls by ISIS for Muslims in the U.S. to turn into a fifth column and act independently with one goal: to kill the infidel. Yet when there is some evidence that this nightmare scenario is happening, our government’s goal seems to be to make sure we don’t understand how much trouble we are in.

And now there is this breaking news: The Washington Times reports that another Oklahoma City man, Jacob Mugambi Muriithi, a Muslim native of Kenya, was arrested Friday for threatening to behead a co-worker at the Bellevue Nursing Home.

Are we experiencing an outbreak of “workplace violence” that is coincidentally associated with radical Islam? Or are the appeals from ISIS to lone wolf jihadists gaining traction? I know which one I think it is.

Values Voter Summit A Big Success

This year’s Values Voter Summit was another huge success. A constant theme throughout the three-day event was the growing assault on religious liberty overseas and here at home. Featured speakers included Naghmeh Abedini, wife of Pastor Saeed Abedini, David and Jason Benham, Aaron and Melissa Klein, and Mariam Ibraheem — all of whom have experienced varying degrees of persecution for their faith.

For the second year in row, Senator Ted Cruz finished first in the Values Voter straw poll, winning 25% of the vote. Dr. Ben Carson finished second with 20%, followed by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 12%. Rounding out the top five were former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum in fourth place, followed by a tie for fifth between Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul.

I was particularly pleased that several major media outlets, including MSNBC and the Washington Post, picked up two key lines from my address Friday afternoon. Commenting on the policies of the current administration, I noted that Obama seemed more interested in saving the reputation of Islam than in saving the lives of Christians. Looking forward to 2016, I warned Hillary Clinton that she could not run away from Obama after spending four years implementing his policies.

If you missed my speech or any others, click here to watch them online.

Thank you, my friends, for making this work possible!

Beheading Update

There is disturbing news today of yet another beheading. This time it happened not in some far-off location halfway across the globe, but in Moore, Oklahoma.

Late yesterday afternoon a recently-fired employee walked into a food processing plant and attacked a woman with a meat carving knife, severing her head. He then attacked another woman. He was stopped only when a company executive and off-duty sheriff’s deputy shot him.

Two points are worth making here: First, employees at the plant say the attacker was a recent convert to Islam and had been attempting to convert others. But I suspect this incident will be labeled “workplace violence,” just like the Fort Hood shooting.

Second, this evil was only stopped by a good guy with a gun. Just like Nazism and every other evil tyranny before it, radical Islamism will only be defeated if the free peoples of the world stand up and fight back.

The Real War On Women

There’s a report out today that the Democrat’s “war on women” rhetoric is falling flat with voters, as it should. It is an absurd narrative designed to distract voters from Obama’s failed policies. But there is a very real war on women going on in the Muslim world.

According to the Associated Press, Samira Salih al-Nuaimi, a human rights lawyer and activist, was seized from her home in Mosul, Iraq, tried in a Sharia court for apostasy and found guilty. She was tortured for five days before being publicly executed Monday. Her crime? She posted messages on Facebook condemning ISIS for destroying religious sites.

The AP also notes that female political candidates in neighboring areas are being hunted down by ISIS fighters. One was killed Tuesday, and a second is missing.

That is the reality of radical Islam’s war on women. Let’s see if actress Emma Watson has the courage to stop lecturing Western countries rooted in Judeo-Christian values, and take her #HeForShe campaign to the “Muslim world.”

Illegals Ignore Court Orders

While the American people are justifiably focused on beheadings, the federal government is now admitting that it is losing the vast majority of illegal family units apprehended at the southern border. Seventy percent are failing to show up for their court ordered hearings.

A few months ago, when thousands of illegal immigrants were pouring across the border, the Obama Administration tried to look tough in the face of that crisis. In fact, we even got headlines like this one: “Obama Talks Tough: Child Immigrants Can’t Stay.”

But every reporter in Washington — and most Americans — knew that just wasn’t true. Two months later, the very same publication that ran the previous headline gave us this one: “Obama Prepares Schools For Migrant Kids.” It is disgusting that the American people are so regularly lied to like this.

The fact is the Obama Administration has simply refused to enforce our immigration laws. In spite of this year’s surge of illegal immigration, deportations are at the lowest level since 2007.

Kudos, once again, to Senator Jeff Sessions! Senator Sessions is vowing to make enforcement of our immigration laws and opposition to executive amnesties a key issue in the confirmation battle of the next attorney general.

Military Amnesty

The Pentagon has announced that it is allowing illegal immigrants who qualify for Obama’s Deferred Action amnesty to join the military. Keep in mind that this new program is coming as Obama plans on dramatically reducing the military.

His budget calls for the Army to be shrunk to pre-World War II levels. Thirty-thousand soldiers and many officers are being let go, but we’re making room for illegal immigrants?

Holder Hangs It Up

Attorney General Eric Holder submitted his letter of resignation to the White House today. While he made history by being the first black attorney general, he was also a lightening rod for controversy.

NPR reports that by stonewalling the investigation of Operation Fast and Furious, Holder became the first attorney general in history to be held in contempt of Congress. By the way, a judge ruled this week that Holder must disclose the information that House Republicans have been demanding.

Holder sued states for enacting popular voter ID laws, but dropped the voter intimidation case against the New Black Panthers.

He refused to defend the Defense of Marriage Act, and encouraged state attorneys general to ignore laws they didn’t like.

He harassed Arizona’s Sheriff Joe but came up empty handed.

He insulted Americans by saying we were a “nation of cowards” when it came to race.

He threatened the rights of reporters and even nuns, while turning a blind eye to abuses at the IRS.

Not surprisingly, a recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found that only 15% of Americans had a positive view of Eric Holder. America deserves betters.

Subway Plot Stopped?

Speaking to reporters at the United Nations this morning, Iraq’s new prime minister, Haider al-Abadi, announced that an ISIS cell plotting to bomb subway systems in America and Paris had been broken up. Here are his remarks:

“Today, while I’m here I’m receiving accurate reports from Baghdad that there were arrests of a few elements and there were networks from inside Iraq to have attacks — on metros of Paris and [the] U.S. They are not Iraqis. Some of them are French, some of them are Americans. But they are in Iraq.”

This chilling news only underscores the reality we are facing: Jihadists, motivated by their faith, are plotting to bring more death and destruction to our shores.

The Left’s Attack On Christianity Continues

Radical Islam isn’t the only threat to Judeo-Christian civilization. Radical secularism is also at war with our cherished values. The latest example comes from a charter school system in Temecula, California.

According to the Pacific Justice Institute, a parent discovered that a public charter school library was “purging” books. One of those books was “The Hiding Place,” Corrie ten Boom’s autobiography.

Ten Boom was a Dutch Christian whose family hid many Jews from the Nazis. Corrie and her sister, Betsie, were sent to Ravensbrück concentration camp. Betsie died there on December 16, 1944. Corrie was released days later.

Why would a book like that be banned from the school library? The parent was reportedly told by a library attendant that “the library has been instructed to remove all books with a Christian message, authored by Christians, or published by a Christian publishing company.”

That would mean that classics such as C.S. Lewis’ “The Chronicles of Narnia” and J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” would also be banned.

Brad Dacus, president of the Pacific Justice Institute, fired off a cease-and-desist letter to the district’s superintendent. The response was unbelievable.

“We do not purchase sectarian educational materials and do not allow sectarian materials on our state-authorized lending shelves,” wrote Superintendent Kathleen Hermsmeyer.

“Are they going to ban the sermons or speeches of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.? What about the Declaration of Independence that invokes the laws of nature and nature’s God?” Dacus asked.

I’m willing to bet that this same school system has “Heather Has Two Mommies” and “King & King” on its shelves. But books about Christians protecting Jews are too controversial.

My friends, the culture war for the heart and soul of America is real. This is your country too. Fight for it!

Share this message with your pastor. Urge them to speak up. Make sure all your like-minded friends, family members and co-workers are registered to vote.

We are 40 days away from an election that could have tremendous consequences for our country and our values. Make your voice heard. Make your vote count!

Jeb’s Tin Ear

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush continues to send signals that he is likely to run for the White House in 2016. But my eyebrows were raised when I read this morning that he went to North Carolina to campaign for Thom Tillis, the state’s GOP Senate candidate, who is having trouble breaking through.

No doubt the Tillis campaign was eagerly awaiting Bush’s visit, hoping for a burst of momentum. And what does Jeb do? He brings up Common Core and comprehensive immigration reform — two issues unpopular with the GOP base. As a result, Tillis was forced to distance himself from his guest.

The argument constantly made for Bush is “He can win.” That’s what they said about McCain and Romney, too. Could Bush attract more Hispanic votes? Maybe. Perhaps that could put a couple of states in play. But if he runs on a platform of some kind of a quasi-amnesty, he will demoralize the base and hand states to Hillary Clinton.

Instead of playing ethnic politics, the Republican Party should be doing a lot more to court a natural constituency — working class, blue collar voters who don’t buy the Democrats social radicalism and certainly do not want to compete with cheap immigrant labor.

Speaking Of Immigration. . .

The Weekly Standard reports that the Border Patrol’s Rio Grande Valley Sector has put out a bid for 40,000 emergency Mylar blankets. Those are the shiny, tin-foil-looking blankets that are very good at trapping heat.

It seems the Border Patrol is in a bit of a hurry. The bid is only open for three days and the winner must produce the first 20,000 blankets in 30 days. What’s the rush? More unaccompanied minors from Central America are headed for the border. Evidently, 40,000 of them.

Don’t believe the White House spin that the crisis on the border is over because the flow of children is down. Obama isn’t doing anything meaningful to secure the border. The drop in border crossings is temporary and it’s largely due to the weather.

It is too risky to cross the desert in the hot summer months. As soon as the weather turns cooler, the rush is on. Border Patrol officials know this, and that is why the emergency request for blankets was issued.

But do not lose sight of the big picture — and it’s not about the kids. The real crisis is the fact that our border is so insecure that tens of thousands of people can cross it. We’re lucky that the vast majority are just kids. But it is utterly foolish — especially in this current global environment — to trust our national security to mere luck!

Border security IS national security.

Obama’s U.N. Mea Culpa

President Obama addressed the United Nations General Assembly today. With the war against ISIS dominating the headlines, Obama once again insisted that the Islamic State and all the other radical Islamic groups have nothing to do with Islam. He rejected the notion of a “clash of civilizations.” But it most certainly is.

I half expected the president to start singing Kumbaya or quoting Rodney King, who asked, “Can we all get along?”

Here was a telling moment: Obama appealed to other nations of the world to stop teaching hatred, saying, “No children — anywhere — should be educated to hate other people. …That means cutting off the funding that fuels this hate.” So, Mr. President, may we now assume that your administration will stop sending U.S. tax dollars to the Palestinian Authority? Sorry, I digress…

In closing his remarks, Obama said, “I realize that America’s critics will be quick to point out … that America has plenty of problems within our own borders. … I know the world also took notice of the small American city of Ferguson, Missouri — where a young man was killed, and a community was divided.”

Think about that, folks. Obama is speaking to a room full of world leaders, about a third of whom routinely deprive their people of civil liberties. They have no credible judicial systems. Some of them have engaged in genocide. Many of the Muslim countries represented there are among the world’s worst violators of religious liberty. A viable free press is unheard of in many of these nations.

Yet in a room full of such thugs and dictators, Barack Obama felt as if he had to apologize for America because of one confrontation between a teenager and a police officer, the facts of which we still do not know. For Obama the impulse is always cultural and moral relativism.

I don’t believe we have ever had an American president whose natural impulse is to grovel in front of the U.N. gang. It’s not hard to imagine that many of those in the room were unimpressed by Obama’s weakness.

Defending Islam. . . As Christians Die

This morning we sent out a special request for prayer. As the day wore on, I found myself increasingly angry at the pitiful lack of leadership from the White House and the State Department, not to mention the thundering silence of so many American elites in Hollywood, business and the popular culture.

Three hundred thousand people marched in New York City over the weekend demanding greater government control over the economy in the name of climate change. CBS last night devoted a whole segment to the need to save the loon from global warming.

More directly to the point, virtually every day President Obama, Secretary of State Kerry and CIA Director John Brennan use the power of their offices to tell the American people that the thousands of acts of evil being conducted in the name of Islam have nothing to do with Islam.

It is a rare day indeed when they mention the growing carnage of Christians or the oft-repeated promises of Islamists that a second Holocaust of Jews and Christians is coming.

During his U.N. address today, Obama went on at length about the “great tradition” of Islam. Has Obama ever extolled the virtues and great traditions of Judeo-Christian civilization before such an audience?

Perhaps Obama and Kerry think their praise of Islam is useful in suppressing jihadi recruitment. It doesn’t appear to be working. Obama and Kerry seem more interested in saving the reputation of Islam than they are in saving Christians and Jews from beheadings and mass murder.

Every one of you should find this motivation enough to get out and vote six weeks from now in order to get Obama’s allies out of the Senate!

GOP Voters Want Stronger Immigration Stand

In recent years, some religious leaders have been very vocal in arguing that evangelicals want the Republican Party to adopt a so-called compassionate, tolerant and progressive position on illegal immigration. The leaders of some high profile religious denominations have gone to Capitol Hill and cast their lot with big business demanding that the party support amnesty and even higher levels of immigration.

The left-wing media, of course, has joyfully written stories highlighting this split. There’s just one problem — that’s not what conservative Christians actually believe.

The most recent Pew Research poll discovered a high degree of dissatisfaction among Republicans toward the Republican Party. For example, a majority of self-identified Republicans (56%) said their party was not doing a good job of representing their views on the issue of illegal immigration.

Only 12% of white evangelicals, who make up the base of the GOP, said that the party was “too conservative” on the issue, while 35% felt it was “too liberal.” The Catholic leadership has weighed in heavily on this issue. But here, too, a plurality of Catholic Republicans (32%) complained that the GOP was “too liberal” on illegal immigration, while 21% of Catholic Republicans said the party was “too conservative.”

Some may argue that these Christians do not understand the teachings of Jesus. I would argue that they understand them better than some of their leaders. My reading of the Gospels is that they teach what we should do personally. Nothing in the Gospels says we are supposed to harness the power of big government to take someone else’s money and redistribute it to various individuals. But that is exactly what open borders immigration policies require.

Cultural elites have confused many with their “gospel of social justice.” But it is encouraging to see many believers reject that argument.

Well Done, Gov. Pence

Conservative stalwart Governor Mike Pence (R-IN) was on Fox News this afternoon. His articulate and passionate handling of a slew of foreign policy questions was a home run. Pence has all of the skills and knowledge needed to be a successful presidential candidate in 2016, should he choose to run. You can watch the interview here.

L’Shanah Tovah

To all of our Jewish friends and supporters, Carol and I wish you a happy Rosh Hashanah!

This year it is worth reminding ourselves, whether Christian or Jew, that Hamas was planning to use its network of terror tunnels to infiltrate hundreds of terrorists into Israeli communities near the border in order to launch a Rosh Hashanah attack this year that could have killed hundreds, if not thousands. That makes this Rosh Hashanah even more precious to Jews and those of us who stand with them in the battle against radical Islamists.

Obama Bombs Syria

U.S. forces struck Islamic State targets inside Syria for the first time last night. Command and control centers, vehicles and training camps were hit. But the likely reason for the attack was seemingly buried in most news reports.

Friday we told you about the Khorasan cell — an elite Al Qaeda bomb-making unit based in Syria. At a Pentagon press briefing this morning, Lt. Gen. William Mayville said that the Khorasan cell “was in the final stages of plans to execute major attacks against Western targets and potentially the U.S. homeland.”

The Khorasan cell was targeted last night. A Pentagon spokesman said, “We believe the individuals plotting and planning it were eliminated.”

The Obama Administration and the media have ballyhooed this strike as a “coalition effort.” This coalition is just five Arab states: Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Notably absent from the coalition is NATO member Turkey, which is step-by-step being taken over by the forces of radical Presbyterianism. Whoops, I mean radical Islam, which is why Turkey is increasingly an unreliable “ally.” The whole region, this whole war, is defined by radical Islam — regardless of whether Obama and our cultural elites admit it or not.

By the way, press accounts also indicate that the U.S. fired 47 Tomahawk cruise missiles in these strikes. You may recall that Obama’s defense budget proposes eliminating these cruise missiles by 2016. According to one report, we have enough Tomahawk missiles to last only 85 days at the current “burn rate” of 47 a day. And the 47 launched last night would be nearly half of all the Tomahawks Obama plans to buy in 2015.

Obama has told us that the fight against the Islamic State will be a long, sustained effort. When he was pushed into action, he called on one of the most effective weapons we have. But what happens after 2015? Obama leaves office and the next president won’t have the advantage of the very resources Obama is using now.

On The Wrong Track

Many national polls often ask respondents whether they feel the nation is on the right track or the wrong track. Currently, roughly two-thirds of Americans feel our country is on the wrong track.

Most political pundits attribute that to anxiety over the economy. I have often argued that it probably encompasses more than just concerns about pocketbook issues and budget deficits. And as the latest Pew poll suggests, millions of Americans are deeply concerned about our nation’s growing virtue deficit.

Seventy-two percent of Americans feel that religion “is losing influence in American life.” That is a record high in the past ten years of Pew’s polling data.

Given how we are constantly being told that cultural attitudes are changing, those on the left might be encouraged by this news. But according to Pew, only 12% of the country believes the waning influence of religion is a good thing, while 56% say it is a bad thing.

Here are some other key findings:

  • 59% say it is important for members of Congress to have strong religious beliefs.
  • 47% see the Republican Party as friendly toward religion, while only 29% say the same for the Democrat Party, and 25% feel the Democrat Party is hostile to faith.
  • Americans are divided regarding the Obama Administration: 30% believe it is friendly toward religion, while 29% say it is unfriendly.

From forcing bakers and florists to violate their faith to attacking the Little Sisters of the Poor, there is no denying that the radical left’s assault on Judeo-Christian values has quickened in recent years. Most Americans do not like this trend, but virtually none of the nation’s media or political elites are speaking up for them or defending their values.

There is a great opportunity here for the Republican Party to reach out to values voters. But messages focused solely on economics aren’t going to cut it. Stop talking like accountants and start appealing to voters’ hearts!

    The Left Unhinged

Environmentalists took to the streets this weekend. They were marching to demand action on climate change. Whatever one’s view on climate change or global warming, there are significant issues at stake in this debate.

We should have a rational debate about higher electricity prices and less energy, higher gas prices, higher food prices, higher taxes and more regulations, even the future of the free market.

But there are many on the left who are not interested in having a rational debate on any of these issues. If, as they insist, the science really is settled, what is there to debate? In the fevered brows of many leftists there is nothing to talk about. By the way, the science is far from settled.

There is no better example of the left’s intolerance and its inherent impulse toward tyranny than Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., one of the leading spokesmen for the environmental movement. If it were up to Mr. Kennedy, he would punish people who disagree with his views on climate change:

“They are contemptible human beings. I wish there were a law you could punish them with. … Do I think the Koch brothers are treasonous? Yes I do. … Do I think they should be in jail? I think they should be enjoying three hots and a cot at the Hague with all the other war criminals.”

Folks, this is not hyperbole. Remember the Occupy Wall Street movement? Polling found that nearly one-third of Occupiers supported the use of violence to achieve their political objectives.

    ISIS Issues New Warning

ISIS thugs released more jihadist videos in recent days. Late Friday, a propaganda video, titled “Flames of War,” appeared showing a mass execution of prisoners. CNN notes that toward the end of the nearly hour-long film, the Arabic speaker “seamlessly switches to English.” But this time the speaker didn’t sound British. His accent was either American or Canadian. He also takes part in the execution of unarmed prisoners.

A second video appeared Sunday featuring ISIS spokesman Abu Muhammad al Adnani, who urges Muslims in America and in nations allied with us to kill the infidels:

“O America, O allies of America, and O crusaders, know that the matter is more dangerous than you have imagined and greater than you have envisioned. We have warned you that today we are in a new era. …If you can kill a disbelieving American or European … kill him in any manner or way however it may be.”

    ISIS Mocks Obama

Much of al Adnani’s message was devoted to mocking Barack Obama, including his supposed war strategy. But he also lashed out at the oft-repeated statements by Obama and Kerry that there is nothing Islamic about the Islamic State.

We have pointed out before the oddity of Western liberals lecturing the world on the “true” nature of Islam and why the Islamic State doesn’t represent the “religion of peace.” How do Kerry and Obama credibly claim to know more about Islam than the Islamists?

I had suggested that Obama and Kerry sounded like “Muslim missionaries.” Now even ISIS says they sound like muftis and sheikhs standing up for Islam. Noting that Obama had defended Islam “during six different addresses he made in the span of a single month,” Al Adnani said:

“They [Obama and Kerry] turned into Islamic jurists, muftis, sheikhs, and preachers, standing up for Islam and the Muslims, so it appears that they no longer have confidence in the ability or sincerity of their sorcerers…”

    Border Security IS National Security

One of the most serious threats posed by ISIS is the danger of radicalized Muslims going overseas to train and fight, and then returning home as battle-hardened jihadists to commit acts of terrorism here. Intelligence officials estimate that perhaps as many as 300 Americans may be fighting with radical Islamists overseas. What has been less clear — until now — is how many, if any, may have returned to the United States.

Rep. Timothy Bishop (D-NY) told a shocked audience that as many as 40 radicalized Americans who went overseas to wage jihad are now back in the country. According to Bishop, they are currently under FBI surveillance. These 40 individuals could well be part of sleeper cells who may be activated by remarks like those from Abu Muhammad al Adnani.

Meanwhile the U.S. Border Patrol reports that so far this year more than 470 illegal immigrants from nations linked to terrorism have been caught trying to enter the country. We know that for every illegal captured many others get through. If we captured 474, it is plausible that 1,000 individuals from such countries got in.

The rumor mill in Washington is abuzz with reports that Obama will soon grant refugee status to tens of thousands of Syrians and bring them into the U.S. More than 130,000 Syrians have applied for refugee status, and earlier this year, Obama relaxed immigration rules intended to keep terrorists out in order to let more Syrians in. If we’re having trouble sorting the good rebels from the bad rebels, I have little confidence we can sort out those refugees who may in fact be jihadists.

Shouldn’t this be a matter of urgent public debate? Even if these individuals are not card-carrying members of Al Qaeda or ISIS, polling has shown that many individuals in majority-Muslim nations have a deep-seated hatred of Judeo-Christian values.

Our elites continue to demand immigration reform. But common sense dictates that we have a right and an obligation to make sure those coming to this country are here for the right reasons.

    Homeland InSecurity?

If these reports were not disturbing enough, there is news today that morale is collapsing among those charged with protecting our homeland security. Morale may be sky high among the bureaucrats at the EPA or Department of Education, where billions of tax dollars are being funneled to favorite left-wing causes. But morale is “abysmal” at the Department of Homeland Security.

We have heard from friends at the Pentagon that morale there has been at rock bottom for some time. We told you Friday about the growing rift between Obama and our top military commanders.

Today’s Washington Post reports that senior officials at the Department of Homeland Security are leaving at “a rate nearly twice as fast as in the federal government overall.” As a result, the department is struggling to “to stay ahead of a range of emerging threats.”

Some of the terms used to describe the department created to keep us safe after 9/11 include: “dysfunctional work environment,” “abysmal morale,” “a toxic culture,” “unstable leadership.”

I’m sure it won’t surprise anyone that border security and immigration also fall under the purview of this dysfunctional, toxic and unstable department.
