Less Than 100 Hours Left!

There are four days left – just 96 hours – in the 2010 campaign. Go to http://www.cwfpac.com and make your most generous donation right now. Here’s why we need your support.

The radical pro-abortion groups have realized that the country is slowly turning against them. A New York Times/CBS News poll this week found that there has been an 11-point swing since September among women, usually a reliably Democrat voting bloc. But the pro-abortion Left is not going quietly.

Knowing the mood of the country, the pro-abortion lobby has waited until the last minute of this campaign to launch desperate smears against conservative pro-life candidates, hoping that they can scare enough voters into reelecting liberal Democrats. They are making wild accusations that if conservatives win, women and doctors will go to jail.

Just consider this last-ditch attack by the rabidly pro-abortion group NARAL against Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania: “If Pat Toomey gets his way, doctors who should be on a hospital floor would be in a cell block instead.” That disgusting smear will show up in nearly 200,000 Pennsylvania mailboxes this weekend.

And it’s not just the pro-abortion groups. These smears are all the Democrats have left. They can’t run on their record, and even the liberal media have noticed. Last night ABC News aired a report noting, “Democratic candidates across the country are closing out the campaign with personal attacks on Republican candidates… Democrats are attacking over personal issues, Republicans are attacking over policy.”

We must fight back! Click here to make a gift to CWF.

Now, let me give you an example of how your support is making a real difference for our values. Campaign for Working Families recently began running ads in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District. Yesterday I was reviewing fresh polling data on that race. Two weeks before our ads ran, it was a dead heat.

I am pleased to report that just days after our ads, tying the liberal incumbent to Barack Obama’s radical agenda, hit the airwaves our conservative pro-family, pro-life, pro-free enterprise candidate opened up a 13-point lead!

I am not taking all of the credit, but I am certain our efforts – thanks to your generous support – helped to expose the left-wing voting record of the incumbent Democrat.

Please go to http://www.cwfpac.com right now to give whatever you can afford to help us elect pro-family, pro-life, pro-free enterprise conservatives. Help us expand our media buys and our last-minute Get-Out-The-Vote efforts.

And don’t forget to share this request with like-minded friends and family members. Post it on Facebook and Twitter. The more folks who stand with us, the more we can do to defend our cherished values.

Thank you, my friends!

Just Five Days Left!

Please, whatever you are doing, take a few minutes to go to https://www.cwfpac.com/cwf_contribution.php right now and donate $5.00 to Campaign for Working Families.

There are only five days left until the critical 2010 midterm elections. I’d like everyone receiving this report to give $5.00 to help us elect a conservative Congress. That’s just a dollar a day to retire Harry Reid. A dollar a day to fire Barney Frank. A dollar a day to stop Obama’s socialism. (Do you have the bumper sticker yet? Get yours online at http://www.cwfpac.com.)

Believe it or not, we’re still sending checks to candidates in support of last-minute media and Get-Out-The-Vote efforts, so we still need your help. If you can give $5.00, please do so now at http://www.cwfpac.com. If you can give more, now is the time.

And please share this request with like-minded friends and family members. Tweet about it. Post it to your Facebook page. The more folks who stand with us, the more we can do to stop Obama’s socialism.

Thank you!

D.C. Metro Riders Targeted

Yesterday we got another reminder that Americans remain in the crosshairs of death-worshipping jihadists. Farooque Ahmed, a naturalized American citizen from Pakistan, was arrested yesterday morning after a six-month FBI sting operation. Ahmed believed he was working with members of Al Qaeda to plan coordinated, simultaneous attacks against the Washington, D.C., metro system, very much like the July 7, 2005 bombings in London.

This is the second time in recent weeks that Washington, D.C. has been the subject of planned terror attacks. Recently, an Al Qaeda manual was discovered that urged jihadists to attack crowded Washington-area restaurants during lunch time.

Since Ahmed’s arrest, local officials have been urging Washington residents and metro commuters to be vigilant. They have been asked to report anything strange or unusual. This is good advice. But it comes in the wake of Juan Williams losing his job for saying that he is nervous when he gets on a plane and sees people in Muslim garb. Who do the authorities think is most likely to be planning an attack – the Amish? Catholic Nuns? Of course not!

According to the Washington Post, “more than 60 U.S. citizens have been charged or convicted in terrorism cases” in the past year. Last night on ABC, a reporter described Farooque Ahmed as another disturbing example of “homegrown terrorism.” When asked if there was any discernable pattern, the reporter replied that there was no apparent pattern – the people arrested were black, white, men and women. The ABC reporter could not admit it, probably out fear of losing his job, but the vast majority – if not all – are Muslims.

Do you remember my recent debate on ABC, in which Christiane Amanpour wanted to spend hours convincing us that terrorism had nothing to do with Islam? The Washington Post reports that Farooque Ahmed was planning to attend the hajj next month, “the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.” Ahmed’s neighbors told the Post that his wife “wore a full hijab, the whole thing.” He was obviously a devout Muslim.

Now here’s another story you probably haven’t heard about. The Marine Corps National Museum, 30 miles south of Washington, D.C., was shot at October 17th. Two days later, the morning rush hour commute came to a standstill just outside our office building as police shut down I-395 to investigate shots fired at the Pentagon from a high-velocity rifle. Ballistics tests have linked the Pentagon and Marine Museum shootings.

This week, a Marine Corps recruiting office in the area was shot at as well. Needless to say, tensions are high as the Marine Corps marathon is set to take place in Washington this weekend.

ObamaCare = Redistribution Of Wealth

Douglas Elmendorf, director of the Congressional Budget Office, made an astonishing admission last week. Speaking before a healthcare conference, Elmendorf said the following:

“…the most significant impact of the [ObamaCare] legislation will be through the labor market. We estimated that the legislation, on net, will reduce the amount of labor used in the economy…primarily by reducing the amount that people choose to work. …Some provisions of the legislation will discourage people from working more hours or entering the workforce… The net reduction in the supply of labor is largely attributable to the substantial expansion of Medicaid and the provision of subsidies through the new insurance exchanges.”
According to Elmendorf, often referred to as “Congress’ accountant,” massive government subsidies for health insurance will cause many Americans either to work less or to stop working altogether. So they will be paying less in taxes and getting more in benefits. That is a recipe for fiscal disaster.

One Democrat governor recently had the courage to warn that ObamaCare creates perverse incentives for companies to drop their health insurance coverage and dump their employees into the “substantial expansion of Medicaid” that will become America’s version of nationalized medicine.

There is no doubt about it: ObamaCare is a major redistribution of wealth program. Obama is using healthcare “reform” to spread the wealth around, turning America into France. And just how is the European experiment in socialism going these days?

My friends, we must stop Obama’s socialism. Go to https://www.cwfpac.com/cwf_contribution.php right now to make your most generous gift.

Why You Must Vote!

If you need a reason to vote November 2nd, just consider the words of President Obama. Yesterday he was on Al Sharpton’s radio show attempting to rally liberal voters. He told them, “My name may not be on the ballot, but our agenda for moving forward is on the ballot, and I need everybody to turn out.”

As I have said many times throughout the year, this election is all about Obama’s radical agenda – cap and trade energy taxes, higher income taxes, socialized medicine, taxpayer-funded abortions, out-of-control spending, failed stimulus and more unemployment.

And because of this radical agenda, a recent Gallup poll found that only 21% of Americans are “satisfied with the way things are going in the United States.” I suspect many folks who voted for hope and change in 2008 are sorely disappointed today.

Obama may not be on the ballot, but his socialist enablers in Congress are. The left-wing politicians who passed ObamaCare are on the ballot this year. The liberals who wasted $800 billion on the stimulus bill are on the ballot this year. They are easy to spot – they are the ones labeled “Democrat.”

When you go to the polls in six days, vote for change to restore our hope. Vote Republican.

Why Your Support Matters!

From all the media’s hyperventilating about “right-wing” and “foreign” money, you would think Democrats are being outspent 10-to-1. But Politico reports today that even after you account for independent groups, Democrats and their left-wing allies have outspent Republicans and conservatives by more than $180 million!

Even at this late stage, the Left is still on the attack. The AFL-CIO alone is launching a four-day GOTV effort in seven states — California, Colorado, Connecticut, Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Each state features a very competitive Senate race and combined more than two dozen top House races.

We’re still getting calls from candidates desperately seeking support for last-minute media buys. We are also launching our own Get-Out-The-Vote efforts. The elections are not over and we need your help!

I want to give you a note of encouragement. CWF is running ads supporting Marco Rubio in Florida. Watch this video from Rubio, and I know you will appreciate why we made the decision to go in big for him.

Marco Rubio is the kind of Ronald Reagan conservative that this political action committee is proud to support. But we can’t do it without you. Please go to https://www.cwfpac.com/cwf_contribution.php right now and donate whatever you can afford to help us stop Obama’s socialism.

Obama’s Military Voting Scandal

Of all the scandals of the Obama administration – and there have been many, from unread legislation to czars with undefined powers to wasted stimulus money – perhaps the most frustrating is one unfolding now regarding absentee ballots to our troops. According to a Fox News report, “nearly a dozen states have struggled” to meet the deadlines set by federal law to get absentee ballots mailed to our troops overseas.

The problem appears to be worst in Illinois, where roughly one-third of the counties failed to get ballots mailed on time. Yet, Obama’s Justice Department cut a deal with the state that gives most counties a pass. Six counties have been told to extend the deadline to return ballots. But according to Eric Eversole, a former attorney in the Justice Department’s Voting Rights section who now runs the Military Voter Protection Project, “For at least 29 counties, there were absolutely no consequences.”

This administration wants to run Wall Street, the big banks, car companies and our healthcare. But it either cannot or will not effectively administer a simple absentee ballot program to guarantee that our men and women fighting overseas have the opportunity to cast their votes in this critical election.

I am sure that it is completely coincidental that the military ballots were delayed this year – the same year the Obama White House and congressional Democrats decided to aggressively push allowing open homosexuality in the military. The Pentagon is reviewing surveys from our troops, and I suspect the White House is very aware of the intense negative feedback they are getting from our soldiers, feedback which would likely translate into votes against congressional liberals.

The media have been fretting lately about how the new Republican Congress might use its subpoena power to investigate the Obama Administration. I can’t think of a better issue for Republicans to bring up first than this military voting scandal. Attorney General Eric Holder should be called to Capitol Hill and questioned under oath to determine why American heroes are losing their right to vote while Holder and Obama fight for constitutional rights for GITMO terrorists.

Voter Fraud Alert

There are a number of disturbing reports of potential voter fraud coming in from around the country. Here are just a few examples:

* Several Nevada voters complained Monday that when they went to cast ballots using touch screen machines, Harry Reid’s name was automatically selected. Elections officials were dismissive of such concerns, suggesting that “elderly citizens” were just having difficulty with the touch screen machines. But there is no need for concern. The Washington Examiner reports that if anything is wrong with the machines, the fine folks in purple shirts at the SEIU will be on hand to fix them.

* In North Carolina, one voter reported pushing the button for the straight Republican ticket, automatically voting for all the Republican candidates on the ballot, but his ballot registered as a straight Democrat ticket.

* In Daytona Beach, Florida, a city commissioner and his campaign manager were arrested this morning on multiple charges of absentee ballot fraud.

Friends, when you vote, take a smart phone or digital camera with you so you can document anything unusual. Write down the time, your polling location and the names of anyone you speak with. Then call our Voter Fraud Hotline at 703-671-2592.

The Mudslinger-In-Chief

To our media elites, President Obama is a god-like figure who can do no wrong. To most Americans, however, Obama began a quick descent soon after taking the Oath of Office. Indeed, Obama was once defined by soaring rhetoric, lofty aspirations and sky-high approval numbers. But as I discuss in my Human Events column this week, all those have fallen back to earth with a president who today is more likely to sling the mud than to enchant the heavens.

ObamaCare vs. The Constitution

Two weeks ago, a federal judge in Florida blasted the Obama Administration’s “Alice-in-Wonderland” defense of ObamaCare. At issue was the administration’s attempt to defend the individual mandate in ObamaCare as a tax.

During an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos last year, President Obama vehemently denied that the individual mandate is a tax. But now the administration is trying to justify the unprecedented mandate that every American must buy health insurance under Congress’ broad authority to levy taxes.

Judge Roger Vinson blasted the Obama Administration for its duplicity, writing in his opinion, “Congress should not be permitted to secure and cast politically difficult votes on controversial legislation by deliberately calling something one thing, after which the defenders of that legislation take an ‘Alice-in-Wonderland’ tack and argue in court that Congress really meant something else entirely…”

At the same time Judge Vinson issued his decision allowing a constitutional challenge against ObamaCare to proceed, the Congressional Research Service (CRS) issued a report critical of Congress’ constitutional authority to pass the individual mandate.

Often called “Congress’ think tank,” the CRS provides non-partisan policy and legal analysis to members of Congress and its committees. The CRS was recently asked to evaluate the constitutionality of the individual mandate. Its findings were at best inconclusive.

According to the CRS, defending the mandate as a tax, as the Obama Administration is doing, is problematic according to the CRS because, unlike virtually all other forms of taxation, it is imposed for inactivity and for no other reason. The CRS writes, “it may also be accurately described as a penalty and, therefore, the taxing power alone might not provide Congress the constitutional authority to impose the requirement.”

Defending the individual mandate under Congress’ power to regulate interstate commerce also comes up short because it is again regulating economic inactivity, or the lack of commerce. The CRS concluded, “This is a novel issue: whether Congress can use its Commerce Clause authority to require a person to buy a good or a service.” In other words, they don’t know because it’s never been done before.

This is not how the Founding Fathers envisioned our elected representatives conducting the people’s business. And it’s no surprise that a recent poll found that only 43% of likely voters would reelect a congressman who voted for this “reform” bill.

Rep. John Shadegg (R-AZ) has introduced a bill – the Enumerated Powers Act – that would require Congress to cite the constitutional source of authority for every law it passes. I supsect most Americans might think that is an unnecessary requirement. After all, shouldn’t members of Congress be familiar with the Constitution?

The fact that the Congressional Research Service can’t determine the constitutionality of a 2,000-page law that dramatically expands the power of the IRS and costs at least $900 billion demonstrates just how necessary Shadegg’s bill has become.

Special Message

Over the past several weeks, many supporters of American Values have asked us why we are not commenting on the campaigns, the candidates and some of the major news items in our daily report. The reason is simple: American Values is a tax-exempt, non-profit educational organization. As a result, it is prohibited from discussing the elections.

Our “silence” on certain issues has been a source of frustration for many of our supporters, but we are obligated to follow the law, and we do that to the best of our ability each and every day. But with seven days until the November 2nd elections, I anticipate more questions and more frustration from loyal readers of our daily report. As a result, starting tomorrow I will suspend the American Values “End of Day” report. But that does not mean you will not hear from me.

Instead of receiving my daily report from American Values, you will receive an “End of Day” report from my political action committee. If you have any filtering rules for your E-mail program, please be certain to modify them as needed. The messages will have a similar subject line, and my name will appear as the “Sender.” But the E-mail address and organization will be different, so please be certain to check your messages carefully.

I hope that you will find the candid reports from my political action committee more informative in the days ahead. If you do not wish to receive these messages, click here to “opt out.”

Thank you.

Democrat Dirty Tricks

Democrats are so desperate to maintain their stranglehold on power that they are expanding their arsenal of dirty tricks, including promoting fake “Tea Party” candidates. The New York Times published a report Friday entitled “Democrats Back Third Parties to Siphon Votes.”

Obama/Pelosi/Reid know how to play hardball. They know voters are angry and looking for an alternative to the big government socialism that is coming out of Washington, D.C. So the Democrats are giving it to them. In a number of critical races, Democrats are helping and promoting Tea Party candidates. Not because they agree with the Tea Party, but because they are betting that enough conservatives will split the vote to guarantee Democrats come out on top.

The New York Times identified races in California, Florida and Pennsylvania where third party candidates are getting help from local Democrats, including from the Democrat candidates who are running for reelection.

In Florida, Obama socialist Alan Grayson, who is fighting for his political life, was scheduled to give a deposition in a defamation lawsuit involving a fake “Tea Party” campaign and the real Tea Party organization. His deposition was cancelled when the fake “Tea Party” activist, who has been coordinating with Grayson, dropped his lawsuit. Grayson didn’t want the ruse to be further exposed in court, so he pulled the strings of his puppet candidate to make the lawsuit go away.

All of these campaigns will attract some voters and siphon votes from conservative Republicans. But the biggest danger of conservative division is in Nevada, where a fake “Tea Party” candidate could guarantee the reelection of Harry Reid.

Don’t let your friends fall for it. If anyone you know is tempted to vote for a third party candidate, tell them that even the liberal New York Times admits these candidates are being used by the Democrats to divide the conservative vote and let Obama socialists sneak back into office.

Stand With CWF Today!

Please click here now to make your best gift to CWF.

There are just eight days left for conservative candidates to get our message across and to turn out our voters on November 2nd. The Associated Press released the results of a new poll today that finds that as many as one-third of voters remain undecided or could change their minds before Election Day. We still have a lot of work to do.

Moreover, I just learned that lawyers for one of the liberal Democrat incumbents we are targeting in our million-dollar-plus media campaign are frantically working to get our ads pulled off the air. They are demanding that local TV stations stop running our ads. That’s good news, friends! It means our ads are hitting a nerve!!!

This is not the time to pull back. We’re not taking anything for granted, and I hope you aren’t either. Please stand with CWF today. Go to https://www.cwfpac.com/cwf_contribution.php and make your most generous donation possible.

Which Is Your Favorite Race?

CWF will be monitoring the election results all night as the returns come in on November 2nd. But I’d like to get your feedback to find out which races you are following most closely. If there is one race that would keep you up past midnight on November 2nd to learn the result, which race is it?

Are you most interested in finding out whether Harry Reid survives? Do you want to know if Christine O’Donnell surprises the pundits yet again? Is the challenge against Barney Frank your most important race?

Let me hear from you. Use this link to respond and tell me which race you are following most closely.

Barney Dances Around The Issues

Barney Frank has been in office for a long time – 30 years to be exact. And since 1982 he’s always won with 60% or more of the vote. But this year the candidate CWF is supporting is giving Frank a serious challenge.

Sean Bielat is running some very creative ads that are getting national attention. His most recent ad – Frank “dancing” around the issues – is going viral. If you need a good laugh this Monday, here it is.

We Need You!

I know there isn’t a single person reading this message who wants to see Barney Frank reelected. I also know there are many folks reading this daily message who have yet to step up to the plate and support our work. What are you waiting for? Go to https://www.cwfpac.com/cwf_contribution.php right now and make a gift of any amount you can afford.

If you can’t afford to support CWF today, please share this report with like-minded friends and family members. Encourage them to stand with us. The more folks who support us, the more we can do to stop Obama’s socialism!

The Seeds Of Rebellion?

Tired of the intolerant Left telling you not to pray in public anymore? Evidently a lot of folks in Tennessee are, and I know they aren’t alone.

The atheists at the Freedom from Religion Foundation in Madison, Wisconsin, sent a cease and desist letter to Dr. Jim Scales, superintendent of schools in Hamilton County, Tennessee. Dr. Scales’ “sin” was allowing pre-game prayers to be broadcast over stadium loudspeakers at high school football games. Faced with a potential lawsuit that the school system would likely lose, Dr. Scales instructed all Hamilton county principals to stop pre-game prayers.

At one Friday night football game, the announcer declared over the stadium’s loudspeakers that there would be no pre-game prayer that evening. But he noted that students were free to pray if they wished. Football players from both teams proceeded to walk on to the field, and within minutes the stadium was virtually empty as fans from both sides joined them in prayer.

These are the kinds of small events that inspire major movements. As more and more people realize they are not alone, they become emboldened to stand up and speak out. I applaud the good folks of Tennessee for refusing to be intimidated by a bunch of bitter leftists in Wisconsin.

In eight days, the voters of America will have an opportunity to speak up and make their voices heard by telling the politicians in Washington that we’ve had enough of their liberal policies, that we’re taxed enough already and that we don’t want Washington dictating how we live our lives.

Click here to make a donation to CWF so we can defeat liberal Democrats like Barney Frank and Harry Reid. And don’t miss the chance to make your voice heard. When you go to the polls on November 2nd, double your impact – take a friend with you!

Fox News For Free Speech

NPR’s decision to fire Juan Williams has ignited a firestorm of controversy. Even many liberals are criticizing National “Politically Correct” Radio. Today’s Washington Post editorial defended Williams. And even the liberal hosts of The View, whose dustup with Bill O’Reilly ultimately led to Williams’ firing, are defending Juan.

Barbara Walters said of NPR, “I think they were very wrong.” Whoopi Goldberg chimed in too, saying, “I don’t think he should have been fired, because, in fact … lots of people have this idea.” Fox News offered Williams a $2 million contract yesterday.

The good news is that this outrageous act of censorship has led to renewed calls to cut off taxpayer-funding for NPR. CWF-endorsed Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-CO) introduced legislation in June to defund NPR. Unfortunately, his bill went nowhere in Nancy Pelosi’s House. But next year a different House of Representatives, hopefully under new management, will feel differently. Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC), another CWF-endorsed candidate, is promising to introduce legislation in the Senate to defund NPR as well.

In the meantime, I am anxiously awaiting a statement from the president of the United States, who has lectured us on religious liberty in defense of a mosque near Ground Zero. I assume President Obama will speak up in defense of free speech and applaud Fox News for coming to Juan’s defense.

Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank suggested that President Obama is “bagging a visit to a Sikh temple … because he wanted to avoid a photo-op while wearing the sort of headdress that’s often confused for the kind Osama bin Laden wears. This kind of cultural insensitivity is likely to get Obama fired as an analyst for NPR.”

While that’s obviously a tongue-in-cheek remark, I think Obama will likely get fired by the American people in two years for his continuing cultural insensitivity in censoring God from our Declaration of Independence, not to mention his general incompetence.

More Disturbing Reports

There are more disturbing reports today that underscore the importance of our work and just how urgently we need your support. Please go to https://www.cwfpac.com/cwf_contribution.php right now to donate whatever you can.

* Late last night, Politico reported that early voter turnout in Ohio is favoring the Democrats. Out of nearly 400,000 votes cast already, 44% came from registered Democrats, while just 34% came from Republicans.

* For all the media hyperventilating about “right-wing money” and “corporations stealing our democracy,” today’s Wall Street Journal reports that the left-wing government employees’ union is the single biggest spender in this election. The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees has spent nearly $90 million to keep Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid in power. Combined spending by all Big Labor unions is expected to exceed $200 million.

* The Associated Press reports that a new organization called OneAmerica Votes has organized illegal immigrants to canvass neighborhoods in Seattle in order to turn out Democrat voters. There are several key races in Washington State this year, including a very close Senate contest in which Dino Rossi is mounting a strong challenge to liberal Patty Murray.

If you have not yet supported Campaign for Working Families this year, please step up to the plate today! Click here now.

Fannie, Freddie & Frank

It was reported yesterday that taxpayers may be on the hook for much, much more in bailouts for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The two mortgage giants have already gotten $150 billion from taxpayers, but they may need an additional $200 billion if the economy does not improve.

The man at the center of the Fannie/Freddie mortgage mess is, of course, Barney Frank, who is so concerned about his re-election that he just took out a loan for $200,000 for his campaign. I hope he got a subprime loan, and I hope the voters evict Frank from the House in 11 days!

Williams Too Conservative For NPR?

Washington, D.C., was rocked this morning by the news that Juan Williams had been fired by National Public Radio. Williams has worked at NPR since 1999, but his contract was terminated yesterday after he appeared on the O’Reilly Factor to discuss Bill O’Reilly’s recent appearance on The View.

During The View show, liberal hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar had stormed off stage while debating O’Reilly about the Ground Zero mosque. The incident once again proved that many liberals are not capable of engaging in rational debates.

On O’Reilly’s show, Williams said, “Look, Bill, I’m not a bigot. You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.” That comment cost Williams his job at the now Sharia-compliant NPR, where no criticism of Islam is tolerated.

But a couple of events happened prior to his firing that likely played a role. First, George Soros recently gave $1.8 million to NPR. According to NPR, the Soros money will be used to hire new reporters who will “better inform the public about the impact that the actions of state governments has on citizens and communities.” Was Williams pushed out so Soros puppets could propagandize about the benefits of Big Government?

Second, the Islamic apologists at CAIR issued a press release condemning Williams and demanding that NPR take action in response to his “irresponsible and inflammatory comments.” Presumably not wanting to lose their heads, NPR executives sacked Williams.

It also has been widely reported today that Vivian Schiller, NPR’s CEO, remarked that Williams should discuss his views about Muslims with his psychiatrist. Do you get it, folks? To the elitists at NPR, if you have any concerns about Muslims in the wake of 9/11 – or the London bombings, the Madrid bombings, the Bali bombings, the Mumbai attacks, the Fort Hood shootings, or the failed Christmas Day or Times Square plots – YOU are the crazy one!

The Washington Post has already released its Friday editorial coming to Williams’ defense. The Post writes, “Mr. Williams was attempting to do exactly what a responsible commentator should do: speak honestly without being inflammatory. His reward was to lose his job… ‘Political correctness can lead to some kind of paralysis where you don’t address reality,’ Mr. Williams told Mr. O’Reilly. NPR, alas, has proven his point.”

I couldn’t agree more. This sad episode is yet another example of how political correctness has silenced America’s elites when it comes to radical Islam, which has declared war on America, Israel and Western Civilization.

In this era of record deficits and economic uncertainty, not to mention an abundance of media outlets, there is no reason for taxpayers to continue subsidizing NPR. Congress should stop funding liberal propaganda with our tax dollars.

ObamaCare Perverse Incentives

Today’s Wall Street Journal carries a brilliant analysis of the perverse incentives ObamaCare creates for businesses to drop their health insurance coverage and dump their employees into the nationalized healthcare scheme that is to come. Here is an excerpt:

“Our federal deficit is already at unsustainable levels, and most Americans understand that we can ill afford another entitlement program that adds substantially to it. But our recent health reform has created a situation where there are strong economic incentives for employers to drop health coverage altogether. The consequence will be to drive many more people than projected—and with them, much greater cost—into the reform’s federally subsidized system. …

“One implication of the magnitude of these subsidies seems clear: For a person starting a business in 2014, it will be logical and responsible … never to offer health benefits. …the business can avoid a great deal of cost because the federal government will now pay much of what the business would have incurred for its share of health insurance.”

The author is exactly right. ObamaCare will lead to a single-payer nationalized healthcare like Canada and England, where care is rationed and taxes are through the roof. He concludes his column by suggesting that this may not have been an unintended consequence on the part of the liberal politicians who wrote the legislation. What makes the column noteworthy is that it comes from Phil Bredesen – Tennessee’s Democrat governor. You can read his entire editorial here.
