Obama’s War On Reality

Janet Napolitano, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, has a guest editorial in today’s USA Today. In it she manages to write about the Christmas Day attempted terrorist attack without ever mentioning words such as jihad, Islam, Muslim, war, etc. Our president no doubt loved it, since it completely reflects his view that we have a crime problem rather than a war problem with Islamofascists.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who only narrowly lost the chance to receive his 30 virgins on Christmas Day for killing us, had no confusion at all about what he was doing or why we was doing it. He didn’t see himself as a criminal. He wrote on his blog that as his Muslim faith strengthened, he began to have fantasies. He described his main fantasy with these chilling words: “I imagine how the great jihad will take place, how the Muslims will win insha Allah (Allah willing) and rule the whole world, and establish the greatest empire once again.”

Can you imagine a conversation between Barack Obama and Abdulmutallab?

Obama: “Islam is a religion of peace.”

Abdulmutallab: “I dream of killing the infidel!”

Obama: “Jihad means self-improvement.”

Abdulmutallab: “Jihad is holy war!”

Obama: “Come to my Ramadan dinner at the White House!”

Abdulmutallab: “Do you intend to feed me before I slit your throat?”

My point is simply this: No matter how many times our government officials and their liberal supporters mouth politically correct nonsense about our current predicament, the reality is that countless young Muslims from London to Gaza to Nigeria and even here are dreaming murderous dreams. The longer our leaders remain delusional, the more likely more of us will die.

Happy New Year

This will be the last normal end-of-day report you will receive this year. The regular end-of-day report will resume on Monday, January 4, 2010. We wish you and your family all of God’s blessings in the New Year. Thank you for standing with us in this great battle. Happy New Year!

Whose Fault?

ABC is reporting that two of the jihadist leaders behind the Northwest Airlines bomb plot were formerly Guantanamo prisoners who were released in November 2007. Before the day is over, Obama operatives and their media allies will be blaming George Bush for the Christmas Day plot.

Nice try – but no sale. During Bush’s second term, every liberal senator including Barack Obama was demanding that Guantanamo prisoners be put on trial or released. Liberal courts sniped at every step the Bush Administration took to deal with the “GITMO” prisoners. The ACLU and big media complained that the prisoners were being denied their rights. Steps taken to get information from the prisoners were condemned as torture. There were more negative stories about the U.S. soldiers guarding these thugs than about the thugs themselves. Liberal Illinois Senator Dick Durbin compared GITMO and our military prisons to a Nazi facility.

In that atmosphere, the Bush Administration started allowing limited releases from GITMO of prisoners they felt were least dangerous. At the same time, President Bush warned that some released prisoners had already gone back to the battlefield against the U.S. We were critical of the releases but also understood that it was a response to liberal pressure.

Now let’s fast forward to today. President Obama took office and his first official act was to sign an order to close GITMO, releasing as many prisoners as possible and bringing the rest to the U.S., where they would be granted all the rights of our Constitution. For the last year, Obama has fought to implement his plan in spite of all the evidence that he will make us less safe by doing so.

Now read this and weep. ABC is reporting that just this weekend the number of prisoners at GITMO dropped to fewer than 200 because President Obama transferred a dozen jihadist suspects to the governments of Yemen, Afghanistan and Somali. Meanwhile, other GITMO prisoners are getting their attorneys for the circus trials that will be held in New York as the result of another Obama decision. Finally it was Barack Obama’s administration that failed to keep an obviously high-risk individual from boarding the Northwest Christmas flight. That failure almost cost hundreds of lives.

The Obama Administration has one tune in its repertoire. It’s called “Blame Bush.” But it won’t fly this time, as we become less safe with each passing day.

Luck Prevents Airline Disaster

God must have been looking after America and prevented a terrorist attack on Christmas Day because the Obama Administration clearly wasn’t. Muslim Jihadist Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who bought his airline ticket with cash and had no luggage, was able to bring a chemical bomb on a U.S. aircraft flying to Detroit. He did so even though his father, a prominent wealthy Nigerian, had warned the U.S. months ago that his son was a threat to the U.S.

I watched airport security people putting 70-year-old Americans in wheelchairs through elaborate pat-downs in the Atlanta airport this weekend in reaction to the near catastrophe on Christmas Day. Perhaps we should waste less time checking senior citizens and more time looking carefully at young Muslim men whose parents try to turn them in as Al Qaeda sympathizers.

Abdulmutallab, apparently rejecting President Obama’s repeated contention that Islam is a religion of peace, became more war-like as he became more devout in his Muslim faith. This is not a unique pattern, nor will Abdulmutallab be the last of his breed. Multiple sources are reporting this morning that dozens of his “clones” are being trained in Yemen right now to launch 9/11-style attacks on U.S. aircraft.

Homeland Security Director Janet Napolitano went on the Sunday talk shows and caused a media firestorm when she claimed that the system had worked perfectly. “Everything happened that should have,” she said. But of course it didn’t work at all. The only reason we did not suffer another blow is that his detonator didn’t work properly and brave passengers decided to defend themselves rather than rely on our sleep walking government. This morning, Napolitano made a hasty retreat on her claims. Here’s an idea – fire her now and fire anyone else who did not do his or her job.

Abdulmutallab was arraigned in a Detroit court yesterday. We learned the poor fellow suffered some third degree burns in his botched effort to slaughter hundreds of innocent people. He is currently getting first class health care (lucky for him Obamacare is not law yet) and may need a skin graft before he stands trial. I say he should have already been turned over to the U.S. military for the most intense interrogation this administration and its ACLU allies will permit. We need to know who trained him, how he met them, where he got the chemicals, where the training facilities are located and what he does or does not know about other plots.

“O,” who is vacationing in Hawaii, has not spoken on the incident, but we are assured that he is on top of the situation. Feel better?

Here’s a closing thought. What if, God forbid, this jihadist thug had succeeded and blew up the plane? Why do I suspect that this administration’s first response would be to assure the public that it had nothing to do with Islamic terrorism?

Another Obama Lie

Remember when President Obama addressed Congress and claimed that his healthcare reform would not provide taxpayer money for abortions? He was adamant about it. He suggested that anyone saying otherwise was intentionally misleading the public.

Fast forward to today. The Senate has passed a healthcare bill that funds abortions. The House has passed a healthcare bill that bans abortion funding. Guess which one of the two Obama wants to prevail? According to ABC News correspondent Jake Tapper, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told him Obama wants the pro-abortion Senate bill!

A Special Christmas Eve Note

A Special Christmas Eve Note

I apologize for interrupting your Christmas observance, but my heart is heavy on this eve of the birth of the Christ child. Today, 60 senators will vote to pass a healthcare law that will force you and I to pay for millions of abortions. As we prepare to celebrate the birth of the most important Baby in history, these senators are shamelessly advancing the death of countless innocent unborn babies.

Many of the senators appear to be blind to what they are doing. Many of them actually agree with Obama and Pelosi and believe they are giving the American people a Christmas present. But you and I know they are mocking the whole meaning of Christmas. They are ensuring that more babies will die. They are setting the stage for the elderly to be denied care. They are stealing from the taxpayers. They have lied. They are violating our Constitution.

I am making a Christmas Eve plea to you. First, join me in praying for our country to survive the damage that is being done. Second, make an unbreakable resolution with me to fight even harder against the anti-life forces that now control our government. And lastly, please give whatever you can at http://www.cwfpac.com to help us kick out of Congress every pro-abortion, anti-life senator and representative who on this Christmas Eve has undermined the sanctity of life.

Capital Prayer Alert 12 23 09

Wednesday, December 23, 2009

To: Friends & Supporters of Campaign for Working Families

From: Carol Bauer

As you know, my wife, Carol, prepares a prayer alert about once a month. We hope you will share Carol’s writing with your friends and fellow worshippers. Thank you for taking an interest in her monthly devotion. – Gary

’Tis The Season

As the year draws to a close and we savor the celebration of the birth of the baby Jesus, born to die for our sins, it is the perfect time to pause and thank our Heavenly Father for the blessings we as a people enjoy, while leaning on our Father God for wisdom and guidance in times that seem tumultuous.

The birth of our first grandchild just before Thanksgiving has sweetened the meaning of family, underscored the importance of legacy and made us more determined than ever to stand firm for the founding principles of our beloved country. We are an exceptional nation, and I suspect all who are reading these words deeply believe this, even if many in government and the media seem hostile to the idea. And so it is up to those of us who have been blessed by this country’s opportunities to acknowledge the shoulders on which we stand as we do all in our power to assure that our grandchildren, your grandchildren, and all who come behind us find that same exceptional country waiting for them.

As you gather with family and friends to celebrate the birth of the Christ child, may you experience a sense of renewal and purpose sparked by appreciation for past sacrifices and propelled forward by hope for our country’s future.

Please pray for our men and women in uniform who find themselves spending Christmas far from loved ones, many in harm’s way. Ask God to protect them, boost their morale and impart to them the appreciation we all feel for their sacrifices. And ask God to give comfort to their families as they celebrate Christmas absent a loved one. As we travel on this holiday, prompt each of us to thank a service member in uniform who crosses our path.

Lift up in prayer those men and women who are elected to represent us at the local, state or federal level. Humble those who seem self serving and who ignore the views of those they represent. Comfort and give peace to those who work hard to represent their constituents and who always put the long-term needs of the country first. Keep uppermost in the minds of all that our country will only be as strong and principled as the men and women who shape its future. May we encourage those who represent our values.

Pray for those who are followers of Christ and seek to live a life pleasing to Him while serving in church leadership or para-ministries. And pray for those in politics, business and academia who are believers in Christ for their peers may only experience what it means to be a Christian through everyday encounters with these believing individuals. As hypocrisy has become more and more prevalent across society, may others see believers in Christ as holding to a different standard. May they know us by our love.

Please pray for Gary as he looks to the critical year ahead and determines the most effective means to move our agenda. The changes that have taken place in the past year are breathtaking in their sweep. And, 2010 is a real turning point. As Gary evaluates candidates, works with like-minded members of Congress, interacts with the media and keeps you informed with an insider’s perspective, your prayer support would be a blessing.

Gary and I thank you for your encouragement and financial support this year. These are lean times, and I promise you that the donation of your hard-earned dollars to Gary’s work for the values you hold dear is money invested in an America we all want to pass on to the next generation. Gary’s daily report will resume on Monday, December 28, 2009.

Merry Christmas to your family, and we hope and pray that you and yours enjoy all of God’s blessings in 2010.

What Should We Do?

I know how many of you are feeling despair today. Even with his falling poll numbers, Barack Obama remains firmly in control of Congress and has three long years left to take us down the road of European socialism before his first (and I hope only) term ends. The healthcare fiasco battle has been lost…

Or has it?

No it hasn’t been lost, my friends. Even today more is being discovered in the bill that will outrage the public and could still derail this big government locomotive. Conservative warrior Senator DeMint just found on page 1020 of the bill a provision that says, “…it shall not be in order in the Senate or the House of Representatives to consider any bill, resolution, amendment, or conference report that would repeal or otherwise change” the Independent Medicare Advisory Board.

That is the Board whose purpose is to ration our healthcare – the infamous “death panel” as Sarah Palin so wisely labeled it. The Reid/ Pelosi gang are trying to prevent any future Senate – even one with 100 conservative senators – from getting rid of it. They won’t succeed!

What will we do? We will continue to fight. We will expose their outrages. We will use the courts. We will insist that the Constitution become relevant again. We will demonstrate, register voters and educate our friends and neighbors. We will beat the Left at the polls in November 2010 and send Obama packing in 2012.

The gang running Washington thinks we will ultimately surrender to their power and cynical political maneuverings. They are wrong.

Please go right now to http://www.cwfpac.com and make the most generous end of year gift to fund our political efforts that you can. And remember: your gift will be matched! Each dollar we raise will hasten the day when we kick the Obama left out of power.

The Myth Of The Anti-Muslim Backlash

It has been more than a month since U.S. Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan allegedly murdered 14 people and wounded 30 others at Fort Hood military base in Texas. And while we were led to believe that the rampage by Hasan, who is Muslim, would provoke a strong and violent reaction against Arab and Muslim Americans, a backlash has been conspicuous only by its absence.

In a piece today on the website of The Weekly Standard, I discuss how in the immediate aftermath of each of the dozen attacks by Muslim Americans since 9-11, the conversation has been dominated by predictions of inevitable violence toward Muslims by bigoted Americans unable to control their rage. And each time a backlash has been virtually nonexistent.

I conclude that our journalistic and political elites have become terrorism’s unwitting domestic enablers, perceiving religion-based violence where there is none, while ignoring it where it is widespread and intensifying. You can read my piece at The Weekly Standard. Thank you.

The Passing Of A Friend

Over the years I have been very fortunate to have my work supported by Christian businessmen who generously invested in our efforts. A few days ago I received the sad news that one of them, dear friend and supporter Lee Eaton, had passed away at the age of 73. Lee was from my home state of Kentucky, where he had a long career in the thoroughbred horse industry. He and his wonderful wife, Helen, had resided in Florida in recent years. There they were very active in the late Dr. D. James Kennedy’s church in Fort Lauderdale and the Evangelism Explosion ministry.

Lee was a special man. He served on the Focus on the Family board for 24 years and on my Board of Directors during the years I was president of the Family Research Council. Lee was a trusted advisor, and he and his family generously supported my work in Washington, D.C. When we did conferences in Washington with speakers from Congress and the White House, Lee would always be the first guy to stand up during the Q & A sessions and challenge the politicians for weakness or hypocrisy. I have watched more than one elected official squirm during Lee’s intense cross examination.

In recent years, Lee and Helen had to deal with his declining health and a valiant battle he fought against a brain tumor. I have no doubt that Lee is now with God, free of pain and enjoying the rewards of our shared faith. Please join me in praying for Helen and their sons and the rest of his family. May they all feel the love of our Lord at this time of loss.

A Must View

As we are all enjoying this wonderful time of year, it is easy to forget our men and women in uniform who are far from home protecting our nation. One of those young men, LCDR Jeff Giles, of the U.S. Navy wrote a wonderful poem a couple of years ago called “A Different Christmas Poem.” You can hear and watch a wonderful video on Youtube by clicking here.

Playing Politics With The Stimulus

This one probably won’t surprise you. The Mercatus Center at George Mason University just issued a study showing where $157 billion in stimulus dollars went. In an unbelievable “coincidence,” the report found that Democratic congressional districts received 1.8 % more money than GOP districts. Democratic congressional districts averaged 152 awards, while GOP districts averaged only 94. Incredibly, the study found that unemployment levels and median income had no impact on whether or not an area received money.

Here’s the bottom line: The $787 billion legislation was not an economic stimulus bill, it was a Democrat stimulus bill. Money has been used to essentially reward those areas of the country that vote “the right way.” And not one investigative reporter was able to put two and two together to discover this misuse of your tax money.

The War On Christians And Jews

At a time of year when faith is celebrated by most Americans, it may surprise some to learn that many students of faith and history believe we are living in a post-Christian age. It is not apparent at the local malls now so festively decorated, but it can be seen in some telltale cultural indicators. One of those is the number of attacks on people of faith, particularly Jews. In my Human Events column this week, I examine the increasing hostility toward both Jews and Christians, and explain why we must stand together to defend against attacks on Judeo-Christian values. After all, it is a friendship as old as Abraham, as new as a baby in a manger. You can read my column at: http://www.humanevents.com. Thank you.
