Trump Dumps Bad Deal

President Donald Trump today canceled U.S. participation in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or Obama’s 2015 nuclear deal with Iran.  In doing so, Trump kept yet another of his major campaign promises.  In March 2016, Trump declared:

“My number one priority is to dismantle the disastrous deal with Iran. . .  I know deal-making.  And let me tell you, this deal is catastrophic for America, for Israel and for the whole of the Middle East.”

Today, the president blasted the Iran deal as “horrible,” “one-sided,” “rotten” and “a giant fiction.”  Trump announced that “the United States will withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal,” adding that his administration is “instituting the highest level of economic sanctions.”

He concluded his address to the nation by saying:

“We will not allow American cities to be threatened with destruction.  We will not allow a regime that chants ‘Death to America’ to gain access to the most deadly weapons on earth.  Today’s action sends a critical message: The United States no longer makes empty threats.  When I make promises I keep them.”

Let me remind you of some key points, many of which Trump stressed in his remarks today.

  • Iran is the world’s leading state-sponsor of terrorism.  It has a long history of violating virtually every deal it has ever signed.  Tehran cannot be trusted.
  • As last week’s dramatic address by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demonstrated, Iran continues to lie about its nuclear weapons program.
  • The deal was fatally flawed in a variety of ways, but especially because it included “sunsets” on the most important provisions.
  • It prevented international inspections at Iran’s military bases, i.e., where the inspections were most needed.
  • It did not cover Iran’s ballistic missile program or the regime’s aggression around the region.  As Middle East expert Michael Ledeen explains, the most fundamental flaw was not the terms of the deal, as bad as they were, but the Iranian regime itself.

I want to address one more thing that I know you are hearing because I am hearing it too.  Many talking heads are claiming that it is unconscionable for Trump to break America’s word by reneging on a deal the United States made.

For all of these commentators suffering from amnesia, this deal was made by the Obama Administration with the ayatollah’s regime.  Barack Obama made a deliberate decision to evade the Constitution by refusing send the deal to the Senate for an up or down vote.

If he had done that, and if it had passed, then the deal would have been binding as a formal treaty.  But Obama didn’t do that because he knew it could never get the votes needed to pass.  No president can make a deal that is binding on a future president without the consent of the Senate.

D’Souza Double Standard

Like many conservatives, I was disappointed when my friend Dinesh D’Souza was sentenced to eight months confinement for a 2014 conviction involving an excessive campaign donation.  (Full disclosure, Dinesh worked for me in the Reagan White House.)

So I am curious to see what, if anything, will happen to Rosie O’Donnell after it was reported that she made at least five excessive campaign donations to liberal candidates.

O’Donnell insists she did nothing wrong, and suggested that giving to left-wing candidates was a form of therapy for her.   “My anxiety is quelled by donating to those opposing Trump [and] his agenda — especially at night,” the actress claimed.

Usually, this isn’t a big deal.  Excessive funds can be refunded or reattributed to a spouse, unless there is some reason to suspect criminal intent.  And O’Donnell might have reason to be feeling just a little anxious.

Rosie says she gave through a left-wing website, and assumed that it or the candidates would not accept excessive donations.  But the New York Post reports that O’Donnell “used five different New York addresses and four variations of her name.”

Now that does seem suspicious — almost like someone trying to mask her identity in order to evade legal limits.

Met Gala Mocks Christians

New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art hosted its annual gala event last night.  A featured exhibit this year is “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.”  The exhibit title also served as the theme of this year’s fundraiser.

The Hollywood elites who walked the red carpet let their imaginations run wild.  Pop star Rihanna appeared as the pope in a mini skirt.  Sarah Jessica Parker looked like the Queen of Hearts with an ornate nativity scene strapped to her head.

I am not Catholic, but it seemed obvious to me that the outrageous outfits were mocking Catholicism.  If the Met ever hosted an exhibit on Islam and fashion, Hollywood leftists wouldn’t dare show up in costumes that mocked burkas or the hijab.  But they are clearly comfortable mocking Christianity.

VE Day

Today marks the 73rd anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe Day) recognizing the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany and the formal end of World War II in Europe.   Humanity owes so much to the heroes who ended Hitler’s tyranny.

Winston Churchill was one of those heroes.  For years, Churchill sounded the alarm against the rising menace of Nazism, and he rallied the spirits of British people during the darkest hours of the war when Britain stood alone.

Below is an excerpt of a speech Churchill delivered to the British people on May 8, 1945:

“My dear friends, this is your hour. . . It’s a victory of the great British nation as a whole. We were the first . . . to draw the sword against tyranny.  After a while we were left all alone against the most tremendous military power that has been seen.  We were all alone for a whole year.

“There we stood, alone. . . The lights went out and the bombs came down. But every man, woman and child in the country had no thought of quitting the struggle. . . So we came back after long months from the jaws of death, out of the mouth of hell, while all the world wondered.

“When shall the reputation and faith of this generation of English men and women fail?  I say that in the long years to come not only will the people of this island but of the world . . . look back to what we’ve done and they will say, ‘Do not despair, do not yield to violence and tyranny, march straightforward and die, if need be, unconquered.'”

National Day Of Prayer

Today is the National Day of Prayer.  First established by Congress in 1952, President Ronald Reagan signed legislation in 1988 designating the first Thursday of May as a day of national prayer.

Dr. Ronnie Floyd, of Cross Church in Springdale, Arkansas, is serving as the new president of the National Day of Prayer.  This year’s theme is “Pray for America – UNITY.”  It is based upon Ephesians 4:3 — “Making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”

I was honored to attend a National Day of Prayer ceremony in the White House Rose Garden this morning with a diverse group of approximately 300 faith leaders.  I wish you all could have been there!  If you missed it, you can watch it here.

I had a front-row seat, and was invited onto the stand when the president signed a new executive order ensuring that faith-based groups can access federal resources — without fear of onerous restrictions that compromise their values.

As the president said when he made this announcement, “Faith is more powerful than government and nothing is more powerful than God.”

This is the second of these annual events that President Trump has observed at the White House.  I mention that because the previous occupant of the White House stopped hosting National Day of Prayer events.  It is nice to see the tradition restored.

Today, President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence spoke openly about America’s deep religious heritage and the power of faith to transform lives.  During his remarks, the president invited Jon Ponder and Richard Beasley to the stage.

At the age of 38, Ponder was sentenced to federal prison for robbing a bank.  In jail, he spent time in solitary confinement.  One night, he heard a broadcast by Billy Graham and dedicated his life to Christ.

The day after Ponder’s release from prison, he got a visit from Richard Beasley, the FBI agent who arrested Ponder.  Beasley had been praying for Ponder and the two men have been friends ever since.

The friendship of Ponder, who is black, and Beasley, who is white, is a great example of the unity that comes through faith.

As President Trump and Vice President Pence spoke, I was struck by how unapologetic their remarks were in the face of the left’s constant attacks on our Judeo-Christian culture.

I thought back to the past administration, to the repeated assaults on life and marriage, the indifference to Christian persecution overseas and the growing harassment of men and women of faith here in America.  And I shuddered at the thought of what things might be like today if “she” had won.

We should take nothing for granted, my friends.  Not even our most cherished liberties.

Please stand with me now.

Help us stay on the front lines in the good fight for faith, family and freedom!

Not Going Away

From the beginning, legal advisers have assured the president that the Russia collusion/special counsel’s investigation would be going away soon.  It is obvious that it is not going away anytime soon.  That being the case, it is good to see that Rudy Giuliani has joined the president’s legal team.

If Republicans suffer an average loss in the November mid-term elections, they will lose the House.  Democrats will impeach the president.  There will be a trial in the Senate.  So it is smart for Trump to bring on people with experience in these matters.

But it could all be avoided if each of us does our part.

Volunteer for conservative candidates.

Remind family members about the accomplishments of this president.

Support conservative organizations like CWF.

Most importantly, vote!

To those disgruntled about how “little” Congress has done, let me remind you that the House passed dozens of high-priority items on the conservative agenda.  Unfortunately, those bills died in the Senate, where we have a bare majority but still lack effective control.

Sen. McConnell and others don’t want to change Senate procedures so that a simple majority prevails.  They fret that Democrats will one day win back the Senate and worry about how we would stop them then.

That is terrible reasoning.  Chuck Schumer will not hesitate a second to change the rules if it benefits him to do so.

The Kanye Effect?

Remember when I recently suggested Kanye West may have sparked a major cultural shift?  (Yes, I realize he is controversial and I have criticized him before.)

But when he spoke positively about Donald Trump and the predictable left-wing avalanche hit him, West, unlike Shania Twain and other celebrities, didn’t back down.  He doubled down.  And his independence has terrified the left because it strikes at the heart of modern day identity politics and the left’s power.

Maxine Waters accused West of “talking out of turn.”  She added, “Maybe he should think twice about politics and maybe not have so much to say.”

That sounds like great advice for Maxine!

Whether Waters likes it or not, there may be a Kanye effect taking place in politics today.  According to the latest Reuters poll, Trump’s approval rating among blacks has doubled in the past week!

Scouts

The Boy Scouts of America have become the latest group to cave to the left’s jihad against cultural norms.  After caving in to political correctness a few years ago, the Boy Scouts started admitting girls.  Now the organization has announced that it is dropping “Boy” from its name.  They are just “Scouts.”

Boys and girls are different. That is a fundamental truth whether the left wants to accept it or not.

That is why there used to be a national organization to teach boys how to grow up to be good men and a national organization, the Girl Scouts, to teach and mold young girls.  In the lexicon of our country, if you wanted to know if a man had good character, they used to say, “Yeah, he’s a real Boy Scout.”

But we won’t be saying that anymore, and that’s a real shame.

Migrants Face Charges

As we reported yesterday, the migrant caravan from Central America has reached our border.  As frustrating as this caravan may be, it is important to remember that Barack Obama is no longer president.

If Obama were still in office, he would welcome the group which was assembled by a left-wing organization that believes in no borders.  Obama would instruct immigration officials to process them, give them court dates and proceed to release them into the U.S., even though only one of out of five usually show up for their court date.

Under Obama, the U.S. government was producing flyers encouraging illegal immigrants to use food stamps.  Central American media outlets were advertising Obama’s lax immigration policies.

In this case, President Trump immediately warned the 1,500 marchers and began pressuring Mexico to stop them.  The Mexican government deported 400 of them.

Many of the remaining marchers applied for asylum in Mexico, which is exactly what they should have done from the beginning.  If they are fleeing conditions in Guatemala, Honduras or wherever and safely make it to Mexico, then they should claim asylum in Mexico.

But 150 or so marchers proceeded to the U.S. border.  Some attempted to cross our border illegally.  Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced yesterday that 11 migrants were arrested and charged for illegally entering the United States.  Some will face felony charges.

“The United States will not stand by as our immigration laws are ignored and our nation’s safety is jeopardized,” Sessions declared.

That is exactly the message we should be sending.  And it is only happening because Donald Trump is president today.

Let me remind you, my friends, that Hillary Clinton promised to end virtually all deportations.  Her position was, according to the Washington Post, “a major break from Obama.”  In other words, Hillary ran to Obama’s left on immigration.  Now, open borders has become the default position of the left.

Elections have consequences.

Hogg vs. History

Anti-Second Amendment activist David Hogg has become a national figure in the weeks since the mass shooting at Parkland high school, where he is a student.  David has now progressed from demonizing gun owners to sharing his deep thoughts on world history.

So far those views prove why we say that wisdom comes with age.  They are also a reminder that David is only 18.  Here’s what he tweeted earlier this week:

“Throughout history violence and war only creates more of itself for example WWI -> WWII -> Cold War -> Korean War -> Vietnam and up to today.  While nonviolent moments like Gandhi’s, the suffrage movement or Civil Rights movement lead to peace and long-lasting change. Ours will too.”

Does David know that World War II actually defeated real Nazis?  Does he understand that it stopped the mass murder of Jews and saved Western Civilization?

Does he know that the Cold War wasn’t actually a war?  That’s why they call it “Cold.”  It was a competition between the free world, led by the United States, and the communist world, led by the Soviet Union, that resulted in the fall of the Soviet Union, thank God.

As far as Gandhi’s non-violent movement leading to peace and long-lasting change, I must have missed the videos of millions of Indians and Pakistanis singing Kumbaya.  Both countries are torn with ethnic strife.

The disturbing thing is not that an 18 year-old believes this.  I entertained a lot of naïve notions when I was his age.  What is disturbing is that our high school students are being taught this by educational elites who ought to know better.

Wolf Doubles Down

Comedienne Michelle Wolf, whose vulgar performance has threatened the future of the White House Correspondents Association dinner, isn’t backing down in the face of withering criticism.  In an interview with NPR, Wolf declared, “I wouldn’t change a single word.  I’m very happy with what I said, and I’m glad I stuck to my guns.”

Unfortunately, her performance really wasn’t all that shocking.  That is what she is known for.  I don’t expect her to take anything back.

But here’s the point:  The sophisticated members of the Washington press corps chose her.  I presume they know how to use Google.  And the fact that they selected her speaks volumes about the Washington press corps.

More Radical Mosques

In previous reports, we have noted the extremism and hatred being preached in mosques around the country.  Our friends at the Middle East Media Research Institute have recently highlighted two more — in Pompano Beach, Florida and in Chicago, Illinois.

I won’t get into the details of the bizarre rants at each mosque.  But I do want to raise what I believe is an important public policy issue.

We were monitoring mosques to some extent after 9/11.  But Barack Obama and the left shut it down with accusations of racism and profiling.  The FBI conducted much of the surveillance, but that changed to “Muslim outreach” under then-FBI Director Robert Mueller.

The result was predictable.  Warnings were missed and people died in the Boston Marathon bombing and the San Bernardino attack.  The jihadists who carried out those attacks were connected to radical mosques.  Had the surveillance continued, the attacks might have been prevented.

The Lonesome Death of Alfie Evans

Last week, much of the world was captivated by the birth of the newest royal baby, Louis Arthur Charles. But it was the fate of another British baby that demonstrated how precarious life has become for those deemed unworthy of living.

Ryan Retires

House Speaker Paul Ryan announced this morning that he will not seek reelection this November, and will retire from Congress at the end his current term.

It is no secret that Ryan has not enjoyed his time as speaker.  He reluctantly accepted the job after John Boehner resigned, and he can hardly be described as an enthusiastic supporter of President Trump’s agenda.

Ryan’s retirement isn’t doing his party any favors.  With just over 200 days until the November election and no candidate, it could be difficult for the GOP to hold his seat.

My friends, I won’t sugarcoat this:  I am not giving up on the House, but saving the majority is becoming increasingly difficult.  Radical House Democrats will impeach President Trump if Nancy Pelosi becomes speaker.

Please stand with me right now!

There are many important Senate races too.  Here’s why the Senate majority matters so much:  Yesterday marked the one-year anniversary of Justice Neil Gorsuch’s swearing-in as the newest member of the Supreme Court.  Soon there will be three justices on the high court 80 years-old and older.

The most important thing President Trump can do to defend our values is make the right appointments to the courts.  And he is doing that!

But to restore balance to the courts, we must have a majority of senators willing to confirm the president’s judicial nominees.

We must elect more pro-Trump conservatives to the Senate in 2018!

Who’s In Control?

One of the biggest lies often repeated in the media is “Republicans control everything in Washington and look how little they have done.”  Sadly, I occasionally hear this from frustrated conservatives.

I am constantly pushing Republican leaders to be more aggressive, and I will continue to do so.  But, my friends, we must not give in to despair and fake news.

President Trump has accomplished a great deal already.  His appointment of Neil Gorsuch saved the Second Amendment.  It also improved our chances of protecting religious liberty and limiting abortion.  Trump dramatically cut taxes and enacted the first major tax reform since Reagan.  He is also rebuilding our military.

But it is a tremendous distortion to say Republicans “control everything in Washington.”

As I have noted before, you cannot effectively control the Senate unless you have 60 votes due to the filibuster rule.  Without changing that rule, which I believe should be jettisoned, the current GOP majority of 51 votes is not enough to get everything done.  But let’s put that aside.

How many times has President Trump tried to do something only to have the left run to the nearest courtroom for an injunction?  Clearly, Republicans do not control the courts.  Obama packed them with left-wing activists.  Trump has a chance to change that, but it takes time.

Then there is the DC bureaucracy and the Deep State.  Enough said.

The media has been called the “Fourth Estate,” meaning the fourth branch of government.  We rightly believe a free and fair press is an essential check on government.  But the media are anything but fair.  They are cheerleaders for the left and attack dogs against the right.

There are big problems beyond Washington.  America’s educational system, at all levels, is producing indoctrinated liberals.

Just look at polling of Americans between the ages of 18 and 30, those who grew up in the Obama era.  For eight years, they heard Obama apologize for America, berate our past, attack law enforcement, etc.

The polling shows this is the least patriotic generation in history.  Do you think the least patriotic generation is going to vote for the Republican Party?

Even American sports, which used to be a bastion of patriotism, is being pulled down into the leftist quagmire.

Millions of Americans said we dodged a bullet when Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton.  I said that too.

But the battle for the heart and soul of America isn’t over.  There is a massive counterattack underway.  We must fight back!

Good News

My friends, the news isn’t all bad.  President Trump is making progress, and it is imperative we protect these hard-won gains this November.  Here is some encouraging news I want to share with you.

  • Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is pushing back against the left’s delaying tactics.   He warned senators that if the stalling doesn’t stop, he will keep the Senate in session non-stop, working through weekends in order to get Trump’s nominees confirmed.
  • House conservatives are threatening top Justice Department officials with contempt charges and even impeachment unless they fully cooperate with oversight demands.
  • China’s president made a big concession when he announced plans to reduce tariffs on U.S. cars.  Trump welcomed the announcement, but demanded action not just rhetoric.
  • The federal bureaucracy is shrinking.
  • Trump signed a memo ordering the end of “catch and release” for illegal immigrants.
  • The Arizona Supreme Court ruled unanimously that in-state tuition breaks for illegal immigrants is unconstitutional.  That means Arizona colleges will no longer discriminate against American citizens from other states in favor of illegal immigrants.
  • Ground was broken this week on the first stretch of the border wall.
  • President Trump welcomed the players from the University of Alabama football team to the White House yesterday to celebrate their latest national title.  Nobody took a knee.  Instead, several players on the multiracial team huddled around the president to pray for him and our nation.

Holocaust Remembrance Day

Events marking Holocaust Remembrance Day began this evening in Israel.  It is a day of reflection on the unthinkable, remembering that Adolf Hitler and his national socialists murdered six million Jews, one-third of the world’s Jewish population.

Today also happens to be the 73rd anniversary of the Allied liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp.  To comprehend the horrific extent of the Holocaust, consider this:  More than 70 years later, the world’s Jewish population has yet to fully recover.

It is hard to imagine that such evil could ever occur again.  But today the lessons of the Holocaust are fading.  Sadly, we regularly see reports of anti-Semitism on U.S. college campuses.  Anti-Semitism is spreading again throughout Europe, even becoming stylish among some of its left-wing elites.

And, of course, there is the radical regime of the Islamic Republic of Iran.  The supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, denies the first Holocaust while routinely promising a second Holocaust through the annihilation of Israel.  He did so again just last week.

But there is good news. Millions of Christians are standing with the Jewish people. Together, we will defend Judeo-Christian civilization and fight persecution whatever its source. NEVER AGAIN!

About That Caravan. . .

The caravan of more than 1,000 migrants from Central America is now about 400 miles into Mexico.  As we noted yesterday, the caravan is being organized by a group called “People Without Borders.”  Well, that is simply chaos.  But it is reflective of the left’s open borders philosophy.

Last week the organizers issued a list of demands to the governments of Central America, Mexico and the United States.  Some made sense, like an end to corruption.

But immediately following that was a demand to end violence against “the LGBTQIA community.”  I wonder how many of the marching refugees could identify all the words in that acronym.

Other demands specifically to the U.S. government (or you the taxpayer) were:  “That they recognize our right to dignified work” and “That they open the borders to us because we are as much citizens as the people of the countries where we are and/or travel.”

In other words, they are demanding that we recognize them as citizens and provide them jobs.  But what about jobs for America’s actual citizens?

President Trump’s strong rhetoric over the weekend got the attention of the Mexican government, which announced late yesterday that it plans to halt and disband the caravan.  But the organizers are defiant.  They denounced President Trump and vowed to press on.

At the White House today, President Trump said that our immigration laws “are so weak and so pathetic.  It’s like we have no border.”  Sadly, he is right.  The good news is that his administration, against massive resistance from the left, is taking steps to change that.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has ordered immigration judges to speed up deportation hearings in order to clear a backlog of cases that tripled during the Obama years.  This is a big step toward ending “catch and release.”

The president also announced today that he is speaking with Secretary of Defense James Mattis about “guarding our border with our military.”  The president has repeatedly and correctly stressed that border security is national security.

This caravan is a perfect example of everything that is wrong with our immigration policies.  It is because of our lax immigration laws that thousands and thousands of people think they can enter the United States and demand rights, citizenship and jobs!

It’s also a good example of why we need a serious border wall.  By the way, 89% of Border Patrol agents, whose job it is to police the border, believe that a “wall system in strategic locations is necessary to securing the border.”

Fake Financial News

All day yesterday, commentators on the financial network CNBC were blaming the stock market’s steep fall on President Trump.  At one point, the Dow fell more than 750 points before eventually giving up 458 points.  The talking heads specifically cited the president’s tweets for the collapse of Amazon, which fell 5% yesterday.

Well, for eight years Barack Obama attacked one industry after another.  He routinely went after the banks.  He despised the energy industry.  Fortunately, technology overcame him and fracking ensured the survival of our oil and natural gas companies.  He did his best to bankrupt the coal industry.  And he really went after health care companies.

Obama’s socialist policies frightened small business owners and depressed the economy.

I was watching CNBC then too, and those same commentators thought it was really cool when Obama was showing the corporate chiefs who was boss.  But if Donald Trump tweets mean things about Amazon, he’s a fascist and he’s tanking the stock market.

Here’s the important point to keep in mind:  The stock market went two years without a correction, a temporary decline of 10%.  Historically, the market “corrects” once or twice a year.

What is happening right now is not mean Donald Trump.  It is a “reversion to the mean.”  In other words, things that have been going up, up, up, day after day after day, are finally correcting to a more normal level.

The talking heads aside, the financial markets have clearly endorsed Donald Trump.  On November 7, 2016, the day before the election, the Dow closed at 18,259.  Yesterday it closed at 23,644 — up nearly 5,400 points or 30% since Election Day.

By the way, Amazon is not suffering.  On the day before the 2016 election, Amazon closed at $784 a share.  Yesterday it closed at $1,372 a share.

I don’t know what will happen next.  But if there is an earthquake in California, I’m fairly certain the pundits will blame it on the “Trump fault.”

Public School Propaganda

The use of schools to teach liberalism and anti-American history continues.  Parents must wake up, and they must be watching what their kids are learning.  For example:

  • In one Georgia middle school, a teacher required students to write legislators in favor of gun control, but not the Second Amendment.
  • In another class at the same school, a teacher went on an anti-Trump rant, telling students that America has never been great for minorities.
  • At a Seattle Mariners baseball game Sunday, students from a local elementary school were invited to sing the national anthem.  Two of the elementary-aged students took a knee during their performance.
  • Pronouns are under attack at educational institutions all the across the country as gender lines are increasingly blurred.
  • And as I noted last week, a California teacher who introduced her kindergarten class to transgenderism was named Teacher of the Year.

Parents should ask their children every night what they are being taught about America, faith and human sexuality.  If you are not vigilant, you are risking the tremendous heartbreak that has already happened to millions of parents who have watched their children reject the values they cherish.

If you are a parent or grandparent of high school or college students between the ages of 16 and 25, I strongly encourage you to check out Summit Ministries.

PC Rot At FBI

I know there are many good men and women at the FBI.  I have assumed that whatever problems exist in the Bureau were limited to a few bad apples at the top.  But lately I am growing more concerned that eight years of Barack Obama, Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch may have fatally infected the agency with left-wing ideology.

After Muslim extremist Omar Mateen killed 49 people in Orlando, we learned that he had previously been investigated by the FBI after co-workers expressed concerns about his comments and behavior.  The FBI found nothing.

Now we are learning that Seddique Mateen, Omar’s father, was an informant for the FBI for 10 years.  If he had no clue that his own son was a jihadist, I question the value of all the information he was feeding the FBI.

But more importantly, did that relationship unduly influence the FBI’s investigation of Omar Mateen?

Last week, Hafiz Kazi drove a minivan into the main gate of Travis Air Force Base.  His van was loaded with propane and gas tanks.  The FBI field office held a press conference and said it could not find any nexus to terrorism and has no explanation for the attack.

Did they forget Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan?  Did they forget the attacks in Little Rock and Chattanooga?  Are they really mystified as to why Kazi might try a car-bomb attack against a U.S. military base?

Remember the attack on Rep. Steve Scalise?  The shooter, James Hodgkinson, was an extreme leftist.  He regularly visited websites that urged attacks on Republicans.  He had a “hit list” of Republican congressmen. He took pictures of the baseball field.

On the day of the shooting, he asked which team was practicing.  When he learned it was the Republican team, he opened fire.

The FBI held a press conference and told the American people that Hodgkinson’s attack was a “spontaneous” event with no evidence of political motivation.

Yesterday, Fox News broke the shocking story of Matt Schrier, a photographic journalist who was captured by Al Qaeda in Syria.  The Mueller/Comey FBI lied to his family.  After Schrier escaped, he investigated his own kidnapping and it appears that the Bureau was more interested in using Schrier for intelligence gathering than rescuing him.

This daily report goes all over Washington, D.C., including to the highest levels of government.  I don’t know if Director Christopher Wray reads it, but he might consider taking a hard look at what eight years of left-wing leadership has done to his agency.

Trump vs. Putin

As we reported yesterday, President Trump has ordered the expulsion of 60 Russian diplomats and intelligence agents.  According to the Associated Press, “Monday’s expulsions appear to involve the largest number of Russians kicked out of the United States since 1986, when the Reagan Administration expelled 55.”

In other words, in spite of all the aggression by Vladimir Putin in the past two decades, Donald Trump has done more to punish Russia than George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

When Russia invaded Ukraine, Obama sent socks and meals.  Trump is sending missiles.

Russia has been described as “a gas station with nuclear weapons.”  Obama tried to gut our energy industry, while Trump has unleashed it.

Obama gutted our defense budget, spent time pushing transgenderism in the military and tied the hands of our soldiers in combat.  Trump is rebuilding our military and has taken the handcuffs off our troops.  When they were attacked by Russian mercenaries in Syria, the Russians were obliterated.  [Warning: Graphic language.]

The idea that Trump is weak on Russia is laughable.  And if Putin had something on Trump, I suspect we’d be reading about it by now.

By the way, the latest Fox News poll found that 57% of voters believe that Russia’s goal in meddling in the 2016 election was simply to cause chaos.  Only 21% believe Russia was trying to help elect Donald Trump.

That’s encouraging.  In a deeply divided country, 57% of voters reject the Big Media, left-wing narrative about collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign.

The Left-wing Mind

California’s attorney general announced that he is suing the Trump Administration.  Yes, again.  Why?  Because the White House wants to ask people filling out the 2020 census whether they are citizens.  Apparently the argument of Attorney General Becerra is that it is illegal to ask an illegal if he is illegal.

Repeal Your Rights?

Former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens is publicly calling for the repeal of the Second Amendment.  He also suggests that Congress should ban “civilian ownership of semiautomatic weapons.”

This is big news, my friends, because that is the left’s agenda.  All the hype around the March For Our Lives isn’t about commonsense measures to protect schools or even so-called “assault weapons.”

The left’s agenda is anti-Second Amendment.  Period.  And Stevens is not an outlier.

A recent poll by the Economist asked two very revealing questions.  The first question asked whether we should ban all handguns except those issued to law enforcement.  Self-identified Democrats split 44% yes to 46% no.

The second question asked whether we should repeal the Second Amendment.  Again, Democrats were almost evenly divided — 39% said yes, while 41% said no.

Think about that for a moment.  One of America’s two major parties is bitterly divided over a fundamental constitutional right.

That divide was reflected in the Supreme Court’s 2008 Heller decision, which upheld the Second Amendment right of individuals to own a firearm for self-defense.  It was a 5-to-4 decision.

Justice Anthony Kennedy was part of that one-vote majority, and there have been persistent rumors for months that Kennedy wants to retire.

If we want to ensure that President Trump’s judicial nominees are confirmed and that a pro-Second Amendment majority remains on the Supreme Court, we must maintain our majority in the Senate.

It’s just one more reminder of how much is at stake in the elections this November.

Please help CWF elect more conservatives to Congress.

March Against The Second Amendment

The anti-Second Amendment protest, the March For Our Lives, took place Saturday.  Organizers predicted between 500,000 and 800,000 people would attend.  They thought it could even make history with a record-setting size.  And they had every reason to expect a big turnout.

The protest had huge support from the left.  Many Hollywood celebrities attended, and the liberal media spent the entire weekend promoting it almost non-stop.  Even the NFL was on board.  But in the end, the protest didn’t match the hype.

The District of Columbia no longer makes official estimates of crowd sizes.  But a company that uses aerial footage to estimate crowds determined that the likely turnout of the “student-led march” was between 170,000 and 200,000 people.

I see 170,000 leftists every day of my life when I go into Washington, D.C.  The city voted 91% for Hillary Clinton.  New York City is just a few hours away.  My point is that this was not an impressive crowd.

It sounds comparable to the annual March for Life event, which takes place every year in January and without 24/7 media promotion.

I have no doubt that some very well-meaning high school students showed up for this march. But there is a reason we don’t let 13 and14 year-olds vote.

Many of these students are being exploited by the self-appointed “leaders” of this youth movement, who clearly have a left-wing agendato gut the Second Amendment.  There were terrible signs in the crowd attacking Sen. Marco Rubio and the NRA, which is an association defending our constitutional rights.

What was striking to me is that there were no signs attacking the individuals responsible for the dereliction of duty that led to the Parkland shooting.

Where were the demands for Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel to resign after his department ignored dozens of calls?

Why were there no calls for reform at the FBI after it ignored repeated warnings?

Why were there no calls for the one commonsense idea that has broad support — arming more guards at schools?

By the way, lots of students do not agree with the march’s left-wing agenda, but most of Big Media are pretending they don’t exist.  One pro-Second Amendment student, Kyle Kashuv, finally got a major interview on Face The Nation yesterday.

And just consider the juxtaposition between Kashuv and David Hogg, the foul-mouthed, anti-gun, communist saluting darling of the left.

Build That Wall?

It was clear from his Friday press conference that President Trump understands many of his supporters are angry about that spending bill he signed last week.  The president seemingly acknowledged that anger again in a tweet yesterday.

Trump hinted that he may use funds from the Army Corps of Engineers to build more of the wall than was specifically authorized by the spending bill.  Here’s what the president wrote:

“Because of the $700 & $716 Billion Dollars gotten to rebuild our Military, many jobs are created and our Military is again rich.  Building a great Border Wall, with drugs (poison) and enemy combatants pouring into our Country, is all about National Defense. Build WALL through M!”

Stay tuned.

Trump Gets Tough

The White House announced today that it is expelling 60 Russian diplomats from the country and closing the Russian consulate in Seattle.  The move is being taken in support of our ally Great Britain, which claims it has solid evidence that Russia is behind the assassination of dissidents in the United Kingdom.

A senior administration official told reporters:

“This was a reckless attempt by the government to murder a British citizen and his daughter on British soil with a military-grave nerve agent. It cannot go unanswered. . . The Russian government has shown malicious contempt for the sovereignty and security of countries worldwide. . . To the Russian government we say: ‘When you attack our friends you will face serious consequences.'”

It will be interesting to see how the media responds to the president’s tough action.  Will the left applaud Trump?  Not likely.  I’m sure the left will figure out some way to blame Trump for being “provocative” and risking war with Russia.

Barack Obama talked big, but he did virtually nothing to confront Vladimir Putin’s aggression.  Trump has tried to maintain an open line, but he has in fact been very tough against Russia.

Trump has pushed our European allies to boost their defense spending.  Putin doesn’t want that.

Trump has massively increased U.S. defense spending.  Putin doesn’t want that either.

Trump has massively expanded U.S. energy production.  Putin can’t afford that.

Other Headlines

  • The latest Fox News poll had good news for the GOP.  The generic ballot for the November congressional elections had Democrats leading by only five points.  That’s a big improvement from the 15-point deficit the GOP faced in October.  But there’s a big caveat:  The poll was conducted before President Trump signed the $1.3 trillion spending bill.
  • You know we are living in strange times when the former FBI deputy director writes an opinion piece in the Washington Post in which he essentially admits to misleading federal investigators.
  • Speaking of opinion pieces, there was a big one last week that got very little attention.  Cardinal Timothy Dolan wrote in Friday’s Wall Street Journal that Democrats, who once courted Catholic voters, have now “slammed the door” on men and women of faith who believe in religious liberty and the sanctity of life.
